Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder leading to bradykinesia, rest tremor, postural changes, and non-motor symptoms such as depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, pain, and cognitive decline that compromises executive functions (EFs), responsible for the orderly execution of behaviors and tasks of daily life and intentional and directed actions. To this date, a few studies with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have shown beneficial effects in PD patients concerning specific motor and non-motor symptoms, targeting the motor cortex and/or prefrontal regions. Objective: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of left prefrontal tDCS across a broad spectrum of motor and non-motor symptoms of PD using established validated scales. Method: Single-blind randomized clinical trial with 18 volunteers with PD, aged between 45 and 80 years (66.1 ± 9.65), who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants were submitted to assessments of motor and non-motor functions employing psychometric scales and tests to evaluate EFs and were randomly divided into two groups: control (sham stimulation) and experimental (active stimulation). All participants were involved in three separate tDCS sessions. The anode was positioned over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the cathode over the right supraorbital region, with a direct current intensity of 2 mA, lasting 20 minutes. At the end of the three sessions, all participants were reassessed. Results: Significant effects of tDCS on non-motor functions were observed for cognition (verbal fluency of actions, clock copy test, appointment by visual confrontation, and verbal memory with immediate free recall) and subjective assessment of sleep quality (overall restlessness and discomfort in the arms and legs at night, leg and arm cramps at night and distressing dreams). There was also an improvement in the rate of errors and successes for congruent and incongruent stimuli of the Stroop Test. The beneficial effects on motor function were decreased rigidity, improved gait, and greater agility in the finger-tapping test. Conclusion: Three tDCS sessions showed positive results for participants with PD, producing significant improvements in various motor and non-motor functions, including sleep quality, cognition, and EFs. Additionally, the present results indicate that tDCS neuromodulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex region is feasible, safe, and provides significant objective benefits for PD patients.展开更多

Flow FL-100 is a transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) device self-administered by a patient at home in combination with a software application that delivers wellbeing behaviour therapy training. Purpose/aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate if Flow can be introduced to a Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment (CRT) service and the impact of Flow in treating depression. The study addresses the questions: 1) “what are the depression reliable improvement and remission rates?” and 2) “can Flow significantly reduce depressive symptoms and improve real world functioning (every-day, social and occupational functioning) and health-related quality of life?”. Methods: An open-label patient cohort design with no control group. Pre-intervention and 6-week follow-up intervention assessments using the participant self-report measures: Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS), and EuroQol five-dimension (EQ-5D-5L). Participants were 49 CRT patients, 19 males and 30 females, with an age range of 20 to 66 years, and average age of 42 years. Results: PHQ-9 reliable improvement and remission rates were 57.1% and 14.3%. PHQ-9 scores significantly improved, from 23.1 (SD 3.44) to 14.8 (SD 6.82) at 6 weeks, with a large effect size. PHQ-9 suicide/self-harm related question significantly improved from 2.51 (SD 0.77) to 1.08 (SD 1.17), with a large effect size. WSAS scores significantly improved, from 33.6 (SD 5.22) to 21.9 (SD 10.82) at 6 weeks, with a large effect size. EQ-5D-5L results showed significant improvements in the health index score, global assessment of health EQ-VAS from 34.2 (22.26) to 51.6 (24.95), and three EQ-5D-5L dimensions (“self-care”, “usual activity”, and “anxiety/depression”). Conclusion: A CRT service effectively integrated Flow tDCS treatment. Flow was beneficial in terms of improving functioning and quality of life and reducing depression symptoms and thoughts of suicide/self-harm. Flow FL100 tDCS and wellbeing behaviour therapy training could be offered through all CRT services to treat depression, reduce thoughts of suicide/self-harm, enable better functioning, and improve quality of life.展开更多

文摘In order to gain a deeper understanding of the effect of pulsed current on the mechanical properties and size effect of nanocrystalline Ni foils, nanocrystalline Ni foils with different grain thickness-to-grain size ratios(λ)were prepared using pulsed electrodeposition in this paper and unidirectional tensile experiments were carried out at room temperature with different currents and their applied directions. The experimental results show that the nanocrystalline Ni foil produces an obvious electroplasticity effect after applying the current field, and when 300<λ<1100,the current weakens the size effect of nanocrystalline Ni foils to a certain extent, and the angle between the current direction and the deformation direction also affects the mechanical response of nanocrystalline Ni foils, and when the angle between the current direction and the deformation direction is 0°,electroplasticity effect is the best, and the current has the most significant effect of abating the size effect of the material. The mechanism of unidirectional tensile deformation of nanocrystalline Ni foils under the effect of pulsed current was analyzed using TEM and TKD.It was found that the applied pulse current increased the activity of the nanocrystalline boundaries, promoted the movement of dislocations, and reduced the tendency of dislocation entanglement. The higher the peak current density and the smaller the angle between the direction of the current and the direction of deformation, the smaller the grain boundary orientation difference, the more dispersed the grain orientation, and the lower the density of geometrically necessary dislocations(GND)in the deformed nanocrystalline foil, the more significant the effect on material plasticity improvement.

文摘Herein, the effect of direct current(DC)attached the mold on refining the microstructure and alleviating the central segregation of a tin–bismuth(Sn–10 wt.%Bi)alloy ingot during the solidification process has been investigated. The experiment used a self-made device, which can achieve the effect of refining the solidified structure and alleviate the segregation of the metal casting.Numerical simulations were performed to calculate the Lorentz force,Joule heating and induced melt vortex flow for the magneto-hydrodynamic case. Our results show that the maximum velocity of the global electro-vortex reached 0.017 m s^(–1).The DC-induced electro-vortex was found to be the primary reason of refining the equiaxed grain and alleviating the segregation of theβ-Sn crystal boundary. The grain refining effect observed in these experiments can be solely attributed to the forced melt flow driven by the Lorentz force.DC field attached the mold can lead to grain refinement and alleviate the segregation of the ingot via a global vortex. The technology can be applied not only to opened molds, but also toward improving the quality in closed molds.

文摘Introduction: In the last thirty years, brain neuromodulation techniques have been used as an alternative to pharmacological treatment of neurological disorders. Additionally, the present results indicate that tDCS neuromodulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex region is feasible, safe, and provides significant objective benefits for PD patients.

文摘The open ratio of a current collector has a great impact on direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC)performance.Although a number of studies have investigated the influence of the open ratio of DMFC current collectors, far too little attention has been given to how geometry(including the shape and feature size of the flow field)affects a current collector with an equal open ratio. In this paper, perforated and parallel current collectors with an equal open ratio of 50%and different feature sizes are designed, and the corresponding experimental results are shown to explain the geometry effects on the output power of the DMFC.The results indicate that the optimal feature sizes are between 2 and 2.5 mm for both perforated and parallel flow field in the current collectors with an equal open ratio of 50%.This means that for passive methanol fuel cells,to achieve the highest output power, the optimal feature size of the flow field in both anode and cathode current collectors is between 2 and 2.5 mm under the operating mode of this experiment. The effects of rib and channel position are also investigated, and the results indicate that the optimum pattern depends on the feature sizes of the flow field.

文摘High-resolution non-emissive displays based on electrochromic tungsten oxides(WOx)are crucial for future near-eye virtual/augmented reality interactions, given their impressive attributes such as high environmental stability, ideal outdoor readability, and low energy consumption. However, the limited intrinsic structure of inorganic materials has presented a significant challenge in achieving precise patterning/pixelation at the micron scale. Here,we successfully developed the direct photolithography for WOx nanoparticles based on in situ photo-induced ligand exchange. This strategy enabled us to achieve ultra-high resolution efficiently(line width<4μm,the best resolution for reported inorganic electrochromic materials).Additionally, the resulting device exhibited impressive electrochromic performance, such as fast response(<1 s at 0 V),high coloration efficiency(119.5 cm^(2) C^(−1)),good optical modulation(55.9%),and durability(>3600 cycles),as well as promising applications in electronic logos, pixelated displays, flexible electronics, etc. The success and advancements presented here are expected to inspire and accelerate research and development(R&D)in high-resolution non-emissive displays and other ultra-fine micro-electronics.
文摘BACKGROUND Transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)is proven to be safe in treating various neurological conditions in children and adolescents. It is also an effective method in the treatment of OCD in adults.AIM To assess the safety and efficacy of tDCS as an add-on therapy in drug-naive adolescents with OCD.METHODS We studied drug-naïve adolescents with OCD,using a Children’s Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale(CY-BOCS)scale to assess their condition. Both active and sham groups were given fluoxetine, and we applied cathode and anode over the supplementary motor area and deltoid for 20 min in 10 sessions.Reassessment occurred at 2,6,and 12 wk using CY-BOCS.RESULTS Eighteen adolescents completed the study(10-active,8-sham group).CY-BOCS scores from baseline to 12 wk reduced significantly in both groups but change at baseline to 2 wk was significant in the active group only. The mean change at 2 wk was more in the active group(11.8±7.77 vs 5.25±2.22,P=0.056).Adverse effects between the groups were comparable.CONCLUSION tDCS is safe and well tolerated for the treatment of OCD in adolescents. However, there is a need for further studies with a larger sample population to confirm the effectiveness of tDCS as early augmentation in OCD in this population.

文摘The multi-terminal direct current(DC)grid has extinctive superiorities over the traditional alternating current system in integrating large-scale renewable energy. Both the DC circuit breaker(DCCB)and the current flow controller(CFC)are demanded to ensure the multiterminal DC grid to operates reliably and flexibly. However, since the CFC and the DCCB are all based on fully controlled semiconductor switches(e.g.,insulated gate bipolar transistor, integrated gate commutated thyristor, etc.),their separation configuration in the multiterminal DC grid will lead to unaffordable implementation costs and conduction power losses. To solve these problems, integrated equipment with both current flow control and fault isolation abilities is proposed, which shares the expensive and duplicated components of CFCs and DCCBs among adjacent lines. In addition, the complicated coordination control of CFCs and DCCBs can be avoided by adopting the integrated equipment in themultiterminal DC grid.In order to examine the current flow control and fault isolation abilities of the integrated equipment, the simulation model of a specific meshed four-terminal DC grid is constructed in the PSCAD/EMTDC software. Finally, the comparison between the integrated equipment and the separate solution is presented a specific result or conclusion needs to be added to the abstract.

文摘This work demonstrates experimentally the close relation between return currents from relativistic laser-driven target polarization and the quality of the relativistic laser–plasma interaction for laser-driven secondary sources, taking as an example ion acceleration by target normal sheath acceleration. The Pearson linear correlation of maximum return current amplitude and proton spectrum cutoff energy is found to be in the range from~0.70 to 0.94.kA-scale return currents rise in all interaction schemes where targets of any kind are charged by escaping laser-accelerated relativistic electrons.Their precise measurement is demonstrated using an inductive scheme that allows operation at high repetition rates. Thus, return currents can be used as a metrological online tool for the optimization of many laser-driven secondary sources and for diagnosing their stability. In particular,in two parametric studies of laser-driven ion acceleration,we carry out a noninvasive online measurement of return currents in a tape target system irradiated by the 1 PW VEGA-3 laser at Centro de Láseres Pulsados:first the size of the irradiated area is varied at best compression of the laser pulse;second, the pulse duration is varied by means of induced group delay dispersion at best focus. This work paves the way to the development of feedback systems that operate at the high repetition rates of PW-class lasers.

文摘With the approaching of large-scale retirement of power lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),their urgent handling is required for environmental protection and resource reutilization. However,at present, substantial spent power batteries, especially for those high recovery value cathode materials, have not been greenly, sustainably, and efficiently recycled.Compared to the traditional recovery method for cathode materials with high energy consumption and severe secondary pollution, the direct repair regeneration,as a new type of short-process and efficient treatment methods, has attracted widespread attention. However,it still faces challenges in homogenization repair, electrochemical performance decline, and scaling-up production. To promote the direct regeneration technology development of failed NCM materials, herein we deeply discuss the failure mechanism of nickel-cobalt-manganese(NCM)ternary cathode materials, including element loss,Li/Ni mixing, phase transformation, structural defects, oxygen release, and surface degradation and reconstruction.Based on this, the detailed analysis and summary of the direct regeneration method embracing solid-phase sintering, eutectic salt assistance, solvothermal synthesis,sol-gel process, spray drying, and redox mediation are provided.Further, the upcycling strategy for regeneration materials, such as single-crystallization and high-nickelization,structural regulation, ion doping, and surface engineering, are discussed in deep. Finally, the challenges faced by the direct regeneration and corresponding countermeasures are pointed out.Undoubtedly, this review provides valuable guidance for the efficient and high-value recovery of failed cathode materials.
