We report the first total synthesis of four possible absolute configurations and four other regional isomers of a naturally occurring alkaloid crotonine,which was isolated from Croton tiglium L.(Euphoriaceae)without elucidation of its absolute configuration.The concise five-step route with a chirally poor and regioselective strategy starting from monosaccharides was established,and the absolute structure of the natural crotonine was determined by comparison of the NMR spectra and optical rotations of the synthetic products. 展开更多

To investigate the phytochemical constituents of aboveground parts of Croton tiglium L. (family Euphorbiaceae), its ingredients were isolated by repeated chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified based on 1D, 2D NMR and mass spectral analysis. A total of 10 phorbol esters were obtained. Among them, compound 1 (12-O-(2-methyl)butyryl-4ct-deoxyphorbol-β-isobutyrate) and compound 10 (20-formyl-4a-deoxyphorbol- β-acetate) were two new compounds, and the other eight were known compounds. 展开更多

By using spectroscopic analysis, their structures were identified as follows: Crassifolin P(1), Crassifolin J(2), 1,5,6-trimethyl-5-(2-(5-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-yl)ethyl)-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydronaphthalene-1-carboxylate(3), Penduliflaworosin(4), isoteucvin(5), Crassifolin G(6), teucvin(7), Chettaphanin I(8), mallotucin D(9). Croton sylvaticus(C. sylvaticus) is widely used as herbal medicine by the indigenous people of tropical Africa. The potential of C. sylvaticus as herbal medicine,the phytochemistry and pharmacological properties of it... Croton sylvaticus(C. sylvaticus) is widely used as herbal medicine by the indigenous people of tropical Africa. The potential of C. sylvaticus as herbal medicine,the phytochemistry and pharmacological properties of its parts used as herbal medicines are reviewed. The extensive literature survey revealed that C. sylvaticus is traditionally used to treat or manage at least 24 human and animal diseases and ailments. The species is used as herbal medicine for diseases and ailments such as abdominal pains,boils,fever,inflammation,malaria,rheumatism,swellings and tuberculosis and as ethnoveterinary medicine. Multiple classes of phytochemicals such as alkaloids,anthraquinones,essential oils,flavonoids,lignan,phenolics,sterols,tannins and terpenoids have been isolated from the species. Scientific studies on C. sylvaticus indicate that it has a wide range of pharmacological activities which include antibacterial,antifungal,anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,larvicidal and effects on the central nervous system. Although studies have confirmed that C. sylvaticus has a wide range of bioactives,further research on the exact bioactive molecules and mechanisms of action are required. 展开更多

The phytochemical investigation of the leaves and twigs of Croton yunnanensis resulted in the isolation of eight new clerodane furanoditerpenoids,named croyunfuranoids A-H(1-8),along with three known analogs(9-11).The structures of these compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic analyses,and their absolute configurations were determined through a combination of electronic circular dichroism(ECD)calculations and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.Notably,Croyunfuranoid D(4)is identified as a rare 18,19-dinor-clerodane diterpenoid.Additionally,the structure of a previously reported diterpenoid,crotonyunnan B,was revised.All isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory activities on nitric oxide(NO)production in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 macrophages.Among them,compounds 5 and 6 demonstrated significant inhibitory effects,with IC_(50)values of 20.33±2.31 and 22.80±1.31μmol·L^(-1),respectively. 展开更多

The antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of Methanolic and Dichloromethane extracts of Croton bonplandianum Baill were evaluated in a bid to provide better scientific basis for the isolation of bioactive compounds from the plant. The DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities of the Methanolic extract were 59.62%, and Dichloromethane extract was not toxic. Gallic acid used as reference compounds showed higher antioxidant activities to the plant extracts. Both methanolic and dichloromethane extracts were evaluated for their brine shrimp lethality. Methanolic extract showed cytotoxic activity in vitro with a LD50 value of 115.76 (0.0048-3.76) μg/ml. Etoposide was used as standard drug. Put together, these results confirm that Croton bonplandianum extracts possess appreciable natural antioxidant and cytotoxic potentials, thereby providing good justification for the isolation of pure bioactive compounds. 展开更多

In consideration of biomass, phytoremediation is a very useful techniques above all, can be exploit by identification of hyperaccumulator, which accumulates the heavy metal under metal stress condition. In view of constraints of efficient plant species in present study thirty seven different plant species were screened for the identification of heavy metal accumulators. Croton bonplandianum, sedges and Balanites aegyptiaca amongst the all exhibit superior potential of heavy metal accumulation. This is the first report to unravel the heavy metal accumulation property of three different plant species which can be exploited for the bioremediation of heavy metals. 展开更多

The Croton Watershed (New York State, USA) is a semi-urban region that provides 10% of the drinking water for the City of New York. Nonpoint source contamination in the watershed is a major concern for managers because the water supply is currently unfiltered water. Results are reported from three synoptic studies of surface water quality from 98 wetland-containing sub-catchments in the Croton Watershed designed to broadly characterize, at a reconnaissance level, the geochemical controls on water quality, in particular as it relates to wetlands. Total dissolved organic carbon concentrations in surface waters draining wetlands correlated well (average R2 of 0.93) with standard Gelbstoff (g440) color measurements, although there is very little correlation between dissolved organic carbon concentrations and wetland areas in the sub-catchments. This may be a potential indication of other sources of colored organic material. Concentrations of dissolved sodium and chloride, while related to road length, stochiometrically had more chloride than expected for pure road-salt dissolution. This offset is likely due to cation exchange and sorbtion of sodium by wetlands in the Croton watershed. The results show contamination in the Croton hydrologic system that should addressed in ongoing management policies and decision-making. 展开更多

It was used by the ancients as the medicine to treat stomach trouble, rheumatism, poliomyelitis and injuries, and it is the treasure of traditional Chinese medicine in China. With the development of modern medicine, the active ingredients and therapeutic mechanism of C. crassifolius have been gradually revealed. In this study, the functions and applications of C. crassifolius were reviewed from the aspects of botany, traditional Chinese medicine therapy and biotransformation of substances, so as to better understand and use C. crassifolius and provide more effective drug choices for clinical treatment. 展开更多

New-skeleton terpenoids have prompted considerable interest owing to their chemical and biological significance.A chemical study on the bark of Croton laui led to the isolation and identification of a new norsesterterpenoid,crolatinoid A(1),and two new neoclerodane diterpenoids,crolatinoids B and C(2 and 3).Structurally,compound 1 exhibits an unprecedented 12,17-cyclo20-nor phenyllabdane skeleton.Compound 2 features a novel 19(5→4)-abeo-3,5-cycloneoclerodane skeleton,which is hypothetically derived from precursor 3 through an oxa-di-π-methane rearrangement process.Furthermore,compound 1 demonstrated a significant capacity to reverse multidrug resistance in paclitaxel-resistant HCT-15 cells with a reversal fold value of 16.All three compounds displayed adipogenesis inhibition in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. 展开更多

A unique composite record from the Mediterranean area exposed on land and spanning the entire time interval of the Calabrian Stage is presented.The record is composed of the Vrica-Crotone section(Calabria,southern Italy)and the Montalbano Jonico section(Basilicata,southern Italy).The Vrica-Crotone section contains the proposed Global Stratotype Section and Point(GSSP)of the Calabrian Stage and extends from Marine Isotope Stage(MIS)65 to 37 for its Calabrian portion.The Montalbano Jonico section extends from MIS 37 to 17-16.Its upper portion contains MIS 19,which is known to occur close to the Matuyama/Brunhes reversal,and may represent a suitable horizon for the definition of the GSSP of the‘Ionian’Stage.Both sections are astronomically tuned,thus providing accurate ages for the bioevents.New biostratigraphic results and radiometric data on volcaniclastic layer V3 of the Montalbano Jonico section are presented together with an updated tuning of the section. 展开更多
