Short-term load forecasting(STLF)can be utilized to predict usage fluctuation in a short time period and accurate forecasting can save a big chunk of a country’s economic loss.This paper introduces the crafting of va...Short-term load forecasting(STLF)can be utilized to predict usage fluctuation in a short time period and accurate forecasting can save a big chunk of a country’s economic loss.This paper introduces the crafting of various features for hourly electric load forecasting on three different datasets using four different models XGBoost,LightGBM,Bi-LSTM,and Random Forest.The importance of crafted features over basic features was analysed by different evaluation metrics MAE,RMSE,R-squared,and MAPE.Evaluation metrics showed that prediction accuracy increased significantly with crafted features in comparison to basic features for all four models.We also showcased the ability of the Polar Bear Optimisation(PBO)algorithm for hyperparameter tuning of the machine learning models in STLF.Optimized hyperparameters with PBO effectively decreased RMSE,MAE,and MAPE and improved the model prediction,showcasing the capability of the PBO in hyperparameter tuning for STLF.PBO was compared with commonly used optimization algorithms like particle swarm optimization(PSO)and genetic algorithm(GA).GA was the least performing with XGBoost,LightGBM,and Random Forest.PSO and PBO were comparable with XGBoost LightGBM and Random Forest while PBO highly surpassed PSO with the Bi-LSTM model.Hence PBO was proved to be highly effective for hyperparameter tuning for implementation in short-term electric load forecasting.展开更多

This study explored the role of job crafting and job embeddedness in the relationship between employee strengths use and thriving at work.Participants were 260 nurses from Beijing,China(99.2%female,54.6%aged 26–35 ye...This study explored the role of job crafting and job embeddedness in the relationship between employee strengths use and thriving at work.Participants were 260 nurses from Beijing,China(99.2%female,54.6%aged 26–35 years,and 62%with a bachelor’s degree or above).Data were collected at two different time points,with a two-week interval between them.Regression analysis and path analysis were applied to test the hypotheses.Results showed that strengths use was associated with thriving at work.Job crafting partially mediated this relationship for higher thriving at work.Job embeddedness weakened the relationship between strengths use and job crafting,and also lowered job crafting effects on work thriving.These findings provide insights into the mechanisms by which strengths use influences thriving at work,highlighting the significance of job crafting and job embeddedness.展开更多
The dynamic behavior of high-speed craft navigating through variable sea states plays a pivotal role in ensuring maritime safety.However,many existing simulation approaches rely on linear or overly simplified represen...The dynamic behavior of high-speed craft navigating through variable sea states plays a pivotal role in ensuring maritime safety.However,many existing simulation approaches rely on linear or overly simplified representations of the marine environment,thereby limiting the fidelity of motion predictions.This study explores the motion characteristics of a 4.5-t high-speed vessel by conducting fully coupled numerical simulations using the STAR-CCM+software.The analysis considers both calm and varying sea conditions,incorporating fluctuations in wave height,wavelength,and wind speed to reflect more realistic operating scenarios.Simulation results reveal that the vessel’s hydrodynamic response is highly sensitive to changes in sea state.As conditions deteriorate,the free surface becomes increasingly complex,with higher wave amplitudes and more pronounced interactions between the waves generated by the vessel and those imposed by the external environment.These effects lead to significant increases in roll,pitch,heave,and sway motions,thereby imposing greater demands on the vessel’s dynamic stability and operational safety.Furthermore,both hydrodynamic resistance and propulsive thrust exhibit notable dependence on sea state and vessel speed.Total resistance generally increases with rougher sea conditions,while thrust tends to rise with increasing forward speed.Under calm or mildly disturbed waters,a Froude number(Fr)of 0.5 appears to offer an optimal balance for initiating and controlling primary motions such as roll,pitch,heave,and sway.Conversely,in more challenging conditions-such as those represented by a Sea State 3-effective motion control is better achieved at a higher Froude number of approximately 1.0.展开更多

The North-East Caucasus is a multi-ethnic mountain macroregion with a rich cultural heritage,insufficiently studied in the context of the ecotourism development.To fill this gap and identify promising directions of en...The North-East Caucasus is a multi-ethnic mountain macroregion with a rich cultural heritage,insufficiently studied in the context of the ecotourism development.To fill this gap and identify promising directions of environmentally safe forms of tourism,the author used in-depth review of modern literature to investigate the features of ecological tourism and the problems of preserving ethno-cultural heritage,and used historical and comparative-geographical methods to analyze the development of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the North-Eastern Caucasus in different historical periods and to identify the geographical peculiarities of the distribution of historical and cultural monuments(tower buildings),pilgrimage sites and centers of traditional crafts and trades.As part of the planned expeditions,the author personally visited some historical monuments and handicraft centers for a deeper study of ethno-cultural heritage.The cartographic method made it possible to visualize the results.The results of the research show that the ethnocultural heritage of the North-East Caucasus is formed by material(historical and cultural monuments)and immaterial elements of culture(language,customs,traditions,ethnic identification)of those peoples,who live here.The ethnocultural heritage is considered as the most important factor in the development of the tourism industry.It is revealed that this region has a large potential for development in various areas of eco-tourism.The highest concentration of religious buildings focused in mountainous areas.Medieval tower structures were erected in mountainous and high-altitude areas.From ancient times to the present day there have been preserved various types of crafts and trades(pottery,metalworking,burka making,jewelry making,carpet weaving,gold embroidery,wood and stone carving,etc.),which can become objects of ecotourism.The ethnocultural heritage of the North-East Caucasus needs to be preserved and protected.To solve this problem,the author recommends to focus on a balanced combination of traditions and innovations in this industry,also considering the current state and development of the tourism industry in the country and in the world.The research highlights that the development of scientific approaches to plan and manage tourism development can contribute to the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of indigenous peoples.This is a complex and labour-intensive task,but its solution will have a multiplier effect in the social sphere,in economic development and in environmental security,which is in line with the principles and concept of sustainable development.展开更多

The rotation of a ship’s propeller can accelerate the water flow around it,which puts pressure on seabed particles.Continuous pressure on the seabed can significantly trigger erosion and sedimentation of coastal wate...The rotation of a ship’s propeller can accelerate the water flow around it,which puts pressure on seabed particles.Continuous pressure on the seabed can significantly trigger erosion and sedimentation of coastal waters.Considering the impact that can be caused,the ship’s propeller rotation limit needs to be determined to avoid damage to the aquatic ecosystem.This research determines the threshold of ship propeller rotation based on the water flow velocity characteristic.Research has been carried out at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory on several variations of propeller rotation R_(rmp)(r/min)and water depth using empirical approaches,numerical simulations,and scale model experiments.Analysis based on general standard criteria for erosion and sedimentation shows that a propeller with a diameter(D_(p))of 1.5 m is safe for propeller rotation at 25 r/min at all water depths.Then,the propeller rotation of 75 r/min is safe for a distance between the propeller axis and the bottom of the water equal to D_(p).Meanwhile,rotation at 120 r/min is safe at a minimum distance of 1.5 D_(p),and 230 r/min is safe for a minimum distance of 2.0 D_(p).The propeller rotation threshold criteria are essential to determining the new under-keel clearance for environmentally friendly ship operations.Threshold values vary based on seabed particle type and water depth.展开更多
