Crack potential and hydration processes of the cement pastes were monitored using an upto-date eccentric steel cracking frame(ESCF), associated with the non-contact electrical resistivity apparatus, independently. The objective of employing the ESCF is to give a new method determining cracks of concrete at early age. The findings indicate that the lowest water-cement ratio paste reveals highest resistivity values, compasses an earlier inflection point and obtained higher stress. The eccentric restrained cracking test exhibited that lower water-cement ratio paste cracked at the earliest time, accordingly confirms cracking tendency is the highest. Tensile strength test and stresses utilizing ABAQUS simulation was performed. The crack initiation ages obtained are consistent with the experimental program results, which indicates that ABAQUS numerical analysis can well be utilized to predict the crack tendency of cement. 展开更多

A laboratory study was undertaken to investigate drying shrinkage and cracking sensitivity subjected to restrained shrinkage of mortar containing fly ash (FA), granulated blast-furnace slag (GBFS) and silica fume (SF). Six mortar mixtures including control Portland cement (PC) and FA, GBFS and SF mortar mixtures were prepared. FA replaced the cement on mass basis at the replacement ratios of 20% and 35%, GBFS replaced the cement at the replacement ratios of 40%, SF replaced the cement at the replacement ratios of 8% and the blended mixtures with 20% FA, 20% GBFS and 8% SF. Water-cementitious materials ratio and sand-cementitious materials ratio were 0.4 and 2.0 for all mixtures, respectively. The mixtures were cured at 65% relative humidity and 20℃. The drying shrinkage value, initial cracking time and cracking width of the mortar samples were measured. The results show that all the mortar mixture containing FA exhibited the decrease of drying shrinkage. Moreover, initial cracking time was markedly delayed, and the crack width of the initial crack was reduced. However, the incorporations of various ratios of GBFS and SF led to an increase of drying shrinkage, initial cracking time and cracking width as compared to control mixture. 展开更多

With integrated equipment health prognosis, both physical models and condition monitoring data are utilized to achieve more accurate prediction of equipment remaining useful life (RUL). In this paper, an integrated prognostics method is proposed to account for two important factors which were not considered before, the uncertainty in crack initiation time (CIT) and the shock in the degradation. Prognostics tools are used for RUL pre- diction starting from the CIT. However, there is uncertainty in CIT due to the limited capability of existing fault detection tools, and such uncertainty has not been explic- itly considered in the literature for integrated prognosis. A shock causes a sudden damage increase and creates a jump in the degradation path, which shortens the total lifetime, and it has not been considered before in the integrated prognostics framework either. In the proposed integrated prognostics method, CIT is considered as an uncertain parameter, which is updated using condition monitoring data. To deal with the sudden damage increase and reduction of total lifetime, a virtual gradual degradation path with an earlier CIT is introduced in the proposed method. In this way, the effect of shock is captured through identifying an appropriate CIT. Examples of gear prog- nostics are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

The paper is discussing problems connected with embedment of the incubation time criterion for brittle fracture into finite element computational schemes. Incubation time fracture criterion is reviewed; practical questions of its numerical implementation are extensively discussed. Several examples of how the incubation time fracture criterion can be used as fracture condition in finite element computations are given. The examples include simulations of dynamic crack propagation and arrest, impact crater formation (i.e. fracture in initially intact media), spall fracture in plates, propagation of cracks in pipelines. Applicability of the approach to model initiation, development and arrest of dynamic fracture is claimed. 展开更多

Hydration process, crack potential and setting time of concrete grade C30, C40 and C50 were monitored by using a non-contact electrical resistivity apparatus, a novel plastic ring mould and penetration resistance methods, respectively. The results show the highest resistivity of C30 at the early stage until a point when C50 accelerated and overtook the others. It has been experimentally confirmed that the crossing point of C30 and C50 corresponds to the final setting time of C50. From resistivity derivative curve, four different stages were observed upon which the hydration process is classified; these are dissolution, induction, acceleration and deceleration periods. Consequently, restrained shrinkage crack and setting time results demonstrated that C50 set and cracked the earliest. The cracking time of all the samples occurred within a reasonable experimental period thus the novel plastic ring is a convenient method for predicting concrete's crack potential. The highest inflection time(t_i) obtained from resistivity curve and the final setting time(t_f) were used with crack time(t_c) in coming up with mathematical models for the prediction of concrete's cracking age for the range of concrete grade considered. Finally, an ANSYS numerical simulation supports the experimental findings in terms of the earliest crack age of C50 and the crack location. 展开更多

An analysis on crack creep propagation problem of power-law nonlinear viscoelastic materials is presented. The Creep incompressilility assumption is used Tosimulate fracture behavior of craze region. it is assumed that in the .fracture processzone near the crack tip, the cohesive stress fo acts upon the crack surfaces and resistscrack opening. Through a perturbation method i. e., by superposing the Mode-Iapplied force onto a referential uniform stress state, which has a trivial solution and gives no effect on the solution of the original problem, the nonlinear viscoelasticproblem is reduced to linear problem. For weak nonlinear materials, for which thepower-law index n=1, the expressions of stress and crack surface displacement arederived. Then, the fracture process zone local energy criterion is proposed and basedon which the formulas of crucking incubation time t. and crack slow propagationvelocity a are derired. 展开更多

In order to simultaneously measure the initiation toughness of pure mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ cracks in one specimen,a large-size double-cracked concave-convex plate(DCCP)specimen configuration was proposed.Impacting tests were implemented in the drop plate impact device.Strain gauges were employed to measure impact loads and crack initiation time. The corresponding numerical model was established by using the dynamic finite difference program AUTODYN,and the experimental-numerical method and ABAQUS code were utilized to obtain the initial fracture toughness of the crack.Using experiments and numerical research,we concluded that the DCCP specimen is suitable for measuring the initial fracture toughness of pure mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ cracks at the same time;the dynamic initiation toughness increases with the increase of loading rate and the crack initiation time decreases with increasing loading rate;the initiation toughness of mode Ⅱ crack is 0.5 times that of mode Ⅰ crack when subjected to the same loading rate. For the pre-crack in the vicinity of the bottom of a sample, when its length increases from 20 to 100 mm,the dynamic initiation toughness of the pure mode Ⅰ crack gradually decreases, and the longer the lower crack length is,the easier the crack would initiate, but the dynamic initiation toughness of pure mode Ⅱ crack varies little. 展开更多
