Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)represent a class of multifunctional hybrid materials distinguished by their tunable structural architectures,adjustable pore dimensions,and tailorable surface chemical functionalities,which underpin their broad applicability across diverse domains.Within the cosmetics industry,MOFs exhibit significant application potential owing to their high thermal and chemical stability,substantial loading capacity,low biological toxicity,favorable luminescent characteristics,and robust catalytic activity,leading to their increasing deployment in various cosmetic-related applications.This article systematically outlines the structural features and functional properties of MOFs,emphasizing their suitability for integration into cosmetic systems.Furthermore,it provides a comprehensive review of recent advances in the utilization of MOFs in cosmetics,encompassing the detection of organic contaminants and metal ions,ultraviolet protection,encapsulation,and controlled release of volatile active ingredients,as well as targeted delivery of dermatological therapeutic agents.The structure-property-application relationships of MOFs are critically examined.Building upon the foundation of existing research,this study offers a comprehensive outlook on the future development of MOFs in the field of cosmetics.It presents several strategic perspectives,including an in-depth analysis of current application studies,the expansion of MOFs applications into additional cosmetic domains,the integration of multifunctional MOFs systems,the development of MOFs-based composite materials,and the scale-up of synthesis processes from laboratory-scale research to industrial production.It is expected that the present piece of paper can contribute valuable guidance for further exploration and practical implementation in this emerging field of cosmetics. 展开更多

Analysis of Research Hotspots and Trends of Plant-derived Cosmetics Based on VOSviewer and CiteSpace

With the improvement of people’s living standards and the demand for their own health,plant-derived cosmetics containing plant extracts or plant active ingredients are also more and more favored by consumers.In fact,the research on plant-derived cosmetics has a history of centuries and even over 1,000 years both domestically and internationally.In order to further analyze the domestic and international research hotspots and future trends in the research field of plant-derived cosmetics,the relevant literatures from China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)database,Wanfang database,Vip database and Web of Science Core Collection(WoSCC)database from January 1994 to June 2024 were chosen as research objects in this paper.The authors,countries,research institutions and key words of the selected 1,415 Chinese papers and 1,927 English papers were visually analysed using the bibliometric software CiteSpace and VOSviewer.The results show that the number of publications shows an increasing trend;the communication and cooperation between core authors and between research institutions of the publicationare are both weak;the research hotspots mainly focus on natural plants,Chinese herbs,active ingredients,and whitening;and future research trends may include green synthesis,efficacy application,health and safety,etc.This study aims to grasp the hot spots and trends in the field of plant-derived cosmetics,and to provide ideas and references for the relevant research in China in the future. 展开更多

Background:The use of skincare cosmetics can enhance human skin integrity,appearance,and conditions.However,consumers nowadays are quite concerned about the efficacy of skincare cosmetics,particularly those with antioxidant properties that can improve skin tone and skin health.Previous studies also reported that volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in skincare cosmetics could have beneficial effects on human skin.Objective:This research aims to evaluate the antioxidant properties of CHARMS^(TM)skincare cosmetics as well as to investigate the presence of VOCs that could influence their skin tone improvement properties.Material and methods:The CHARMS^(TM)products used were cleanser,toner,essence,serum,moisturizer,scrub,and night cream.The skin tone improvement was assessed on 20 female volunteers’facial skin by using a colorimeter.The antioxidant properties were evaluated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)free radical scavenging assay,total phenolic content(TPC),and total flavonoid content(TFC).Meanwhile,the VOCs were measured using an electronic nose based on gas chromatography(e-nose-GC).Results:The findings show that skin tone was improved significantly by 3.23%in which the skin becomes lighter while skin redness was reduced by 5.75%after using the CHARMS^(TM)skincare cosmetics.The results also show that the cleanser(21.55±0.23%)and the serum(23.60±0.19%)had the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity.Contrarily,the moisturizer exhibited the highest TPC value(324.14±17.47 mg GAE/g),and the cleanser had the highest TFC value(24.68±1.57 mg QE/g).The VOCs detected in these skincare cosmetics such as limonene andγ-terpinene may have skin-lightening effects.Conclusion:It can be concluded that the tested products from CHARMS^(TM)skincare cosmetics comply with the standard regulations and guidelines for Control of Cosmetic Products in Malaysia and can be used effectively as a daily skincare routine. 展开更多

A high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)method has been developed using a CAPCELL PAK ADME(150 mm×4.6 mm,5μm)as analytical column and a gradient elution with 15 min using acetonitrile and 0.1%(in volume fraction)phosphoric acid water(pH=2.2)as the mobile phase.Three active substances in cosmetics were quantitatively detected simultaneously at a detection wavelength of 265 nm.The linear ranges of β-nicotinamide mononucleotides,ergothioneine and nicotinamide are 10~200 mg/L,5~100 mg/L and 5~100 mg/L respectively and the detection limits of three components are 3.0 mg/L,1.5 mg/L and 1.5 mg/L respectively.The recovery rate is 97.1~104.9%,with RSD≤2.0%.The method was applied to quantitative analysis of five samples of cosmetics toner,lotion,cream,essence and gel and three samples of raw materials.The results showed that the results of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide and ergothioneine in five cosmetics were consistent with the product label,while nicotinamide was inconsistent with the label.The purity of the three raw material samples was 99.5%,99.7% and 100.8%respectively.This method offers high precision,accuracy and short analysis time,making it a reliable approach for studying three active ingredients in cosmetics and suitable for quality control of related functional ingredients. 展开更多

Background:Corchorus olitorius L.(Malvaceae)is a green leafy vegetable widely consumed in the Middle East and valued for its rich nutritional content.Its essential oils,an important class of secondary metabolites,are of growing interest for potential use in cosmetics and fragrance industries due to their bioactive properties.Methods:Leaves of C.olitorius cultivated in Egypt were extracted using microwave-assisted hydrodistillation(MAHD)and conventional hydrodistillation(HD).The oils were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)to characterize their chemical profiles.In vitro assays were conducted to evaluate their anti-elastase and anti-collagenase activities,and in silico studies were performed to predict the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of major constituents.Results:GC-MS analysis showed that aldehydes,alkanes,fatty alcohols,fatty acids,and their derivatives were the predominant compound classes in both oils.Notably,oxygenated diterpenes(11.22%)were present exclusively in the MAHD oil,while triterpenoids(16.37%)were found only in the HD oil.The MAHD oil demonstrated stronger In vitro anti-elastase(IC_(50)=42.5μg/mL)and anti-collagenase(IC_(50)=131.5μg/mL)activities compared to the HD oil(IC_(50)=66.7 and 206.8μg/mL,respectively),reflecting an approximate 36.3%improvement in elastase inhibition and 36.4%improvement in collagenase inhibition.In silico docking indicated that the triterpenoidβ-amyrin acetate showed the highest predicted binding affinity for porcine pancreatic elastase(PDB ID:6QEO,ΔG=−8.1 kcal/mol)and collagenase(PDB ID:456C,ΔG=−9.1 kcal/mol)among the major compounds analyzed.Conclusion:These findings demonstrate that MAHD is a greener and more efficient extraction method,yielding oil with enhanced enzyme inhibitory activity compared to conventional HD.The promising anti-elastase and anti-collagenase properties suggest that C.olitorius MAHD oil could serve as a potential candidate for anti-aging cosmetic formulations,following further validation. 展开更多

Effects of cosmetics containing purified honeybee(Apis mellifera L.) venom on acne vulgaris 被引量:2

Acne vulgaris is a chronic dermatologic problem with multiple factors involved in its pathogenesis. Alternative solutions to acne treatment were instigated by antibiotic resistance despite of its extensive use. Purified bee venom (PBV) has been proposed as a promising candidate for that purpose. The present study was designed to confirm the antibacterial effect of PBV and access the efficacy of cosmetics containing PBV in subjects with acne vulgaris. METHODS: The skin bacterium Propionibacterium acnes was incubated with PBV at various concentrations and bacterial growth was evaluated using the colony forming unit (CFU) assay. The mechanism of PBV employed in killing P. acnes was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, a total of 12 subjects were randomized in a double-blind, controlled trial to receive either cosmetics containing PBV or cosmetics without PBV for two weeks. Evaluations included lesion counts and skin microorganism. RESULTS: PBV exhibited antimicrobial activity in a concentration-dependent manner, reducing the number of P. acnes CFU by approximately 6 logs at a concentration of 0.5 mg. When PBV concentration was higher than 1.0 mg, no P. acnes colonies were spotted on an agar. TEM and SEM of untreated P. acnes illustrated the normal pleomorphic structure, whereas the PBV- treated bacterium lost the integrity of surface architecture. Significant difference (P=0.027) in the grading levels based on numbers of lesion counts for inflammatory and noninflammatory was observed in favour of the PBV group compared with the control group. In terms of average decrement of skin microorganism, subjects receiving cosmetics containing PBV experienced a significant 57.5% decrease of adenosine triphosphate levels, whereas participants receiving cosmetics without PBV experienced a nonsignificant decrease of 4.7%. CONCLUSION: These results show that the in vitro actions of antimicrobial activity of PBV were translated in vivo. Cosmetics containing PBV provided a certain degree of efficacy in terms of lesion counts and skin microorganism concentration compared with cosmetics without PBV in subjects with acne vulgaris. PBV may be a good candidate compound for developing therapeutic drua for the treatment of acne vulaaris. 展开更多

A sensitive method for simultaneous determination of six phenolic whitening agents, including arbutin, phenol, resorcinol, hydroquinone, kojic acid, and salicylic acid in cosmetics has been developed using micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography with amperometric detection (MECC-AD). Effects of several factors, such as the pH value and concentration of running buffer, potential applied to the working electrode, separation voltage, and injection time were investigated to obtain optimum conditions for separation and detection. With a 75 cm long fused-silica capillary tube, well-defined separation of six phenolic compounds was achieved in 10 mmol/L SDS/40 mmol/L H3BO3-Na2B407 running buffer (pH 9.0). Good linear relationship was obtained for each analyte over three orders of magnitude with correlation coefficients (r2) between 0.9985 and 0.9994, and the detection limit (S/N = 3) ranged from 0.04 p^g/mL to 0.45 p^g/mL. The proposed method has been successfully applied for the determination of phenolic whitening agents in real cosmetic samples with satisfactory results, providing an alternative monitoring method for cosmetics safety regulation. 展开更多

An effective and environmentally friendly method based on ionic liquid-based ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction(IL-USAEME) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been developed for the determination of nine hormones including three glucocorticoids, one androgen and five progestogens in cosmetics. Several factors that affect the extraction efficiency, such as the kinds and volume of ionic liquid, salt concentration, ultrasonic power and time, and centrifugation time were investigated and optimized. Under the optimum extraction condition, the recoveries of analytes ranged from 85.97% to 108.84% except prednisolone (62.30%). The intraday and interday precision was below 2.51% and 3.30%, respectively. 展开更多

Nano-sized materials such as cubosomes, nanodots, liposomes, dendrimers, nano-emulsions are now becoming regular ingredients in the cosmetic space. These nanoparticle-based cosmetics or nano-cosmeceuticals have extended the boundaries of the applications of cosmetics in managing conditions of wrinkling, dehydrated and inelastic skin associated with aging and dispersed hyperpigmentation. With so many claims by giant cosmetic manufacturers on the several possibilities achievable by such products containing these, there remain valid questions needing answers. Such includes: what are the actual facts as opposed to unfounded expectations on use of nano-materials in cosmetics? What are the peculiar properties of Nano-sized structures? Any potential or actual health risks associated with nanoparticle-incorporated cosmetic products? What roles are the regulating authorities and academic researchers playing in the light of all these developments? Its layered structure is similar to that of graphite. In the manufacture of cosmetics, this structure is intended to improve the appearance, sensory aspect and makes it easy to mix excipients contained in the formulation in the mixture process. In cosmetology, the efficiency and the penetration of active substances into skin are known to be directly related to the particle size. However, only recently their nanostructured properties have been explored. In this work, the synthesis of hexagonal boron nitride in the nanoscale, its composition, structure, morphology and potential for future application in sunscreens are being investigated. The boron nitride was synthesized from boric acid and melamine to a heat treatment at 1600℃. The crystal structure was characterized by (XRD) and its morphology was examined by (SEM) and (TEM);the chemical composition was studied by (FTIR), (EDS) and (EELS), the texture characterization by (BET) and its potential in sunscreens by (FTIR and UV/VIS). Results have shown that boron nitride may be synthesized in the nanoscale and that this material has the potential to be incorporated into cosmetics. 展开更多

Natural products have attracted wide attention in the cosmetics market due to their safety and high efficiency.As a highly active substance in nature,natural polysaccharides have been reported in recent years to have various cosmetic activities such as moisturizing,whitening,anti-aging and repairing skin,and are becoming a hot research topic in the cosmetics industry.At present,the mechanism of polysaccharide exerting cosmetic activity has been widely studied,but the relationship between polysaccharide’s chemical structure and cosmetic activity has not been effectively analyzed,which leads to the limitation of polysaccharide development.In this review,the mechanism of polysaccharides exerting cosmetic activities such as moisturizing,whitening,anti-aging and skin repair was introduced.The potential relationship between the structure and activity of polysaccharides was summarized by analyzing the influence of physical and chemical properties of polysaccharides,such as extraction method,molecular weight,monosaccharide composition,functional group and structural modification,etc.,which laid a foundation for the analysis of the structure-activity relationship of polysaccharides and improved its cosmetic value. 展开更多
