Ocean-Bottom Node(OBN)acquisitions provide both non-converted and converted reflection energy. There is a clear advantage to independently imaging both P-and S-waves,as they provide more information collectively than either does alone. In many conventional converted-wave pre-stack migration algorithms, density is treated as a constant, which is not the real-life case on earth.S-wave velocity and density information is crucial for hydrocarbon detection because it helps in the identification of porefilling fluids. In this paper,we focused on the effect of density on imaging, and developed a method of reverse-time migration(RTM)on converted s-waves of varying densities(VD-RTMCS).Phase correction was required prior to pre-stack migration to avoid constructive interference between data from adjacent sources.Synthetic data examples showed that when density variations were included, image profiles showed advantages in signal-to-noise ratio, vertical resolution and imaging of complex structures. 展开更多

Multi-component seismic exploration technology, combining reflected PP- and converted PS-waves, is an effective tool for solving complicated oil and gas exploration problems. The improvement of converted wave resolution is one of the key problems. The main factor affecting converted wave resolution is the absorption of seismic waves in overlying strata. In order to remove the effect of absorption on converted waves, inverse Q filtering is used to improve the resolution. In this paper, we present a method to estimate the S-wave Q values from prestack converted wave gathers. Furthermore, we extend a stable and effective poststack inverse Q filtering method to prestack data which uses wave field continuation along the ray path to compensate for attenuation in prestack common shot PP- and PS-waves. The results of theoretical modeling prove that the method of estimating the S-wave Q values has high precision. The results from synthetic and real data prove that the stable inverse Q filtering method can effectively improve the resolution of prestack PP- and PS-waves. 展开更多

To solve the problem of circulating power of dual active bridge(DAB)DC-DC converter over a wide voltage conversion ratio, this paper proposes a novel synchronous PWM(S-PWM)modulation.Existence of circulating power increases current stress of devices and decreases efficiency, especially under light load conditions.Several modulation methods have been proposed to overcome the problem. They can reduce or eliminate either input or output side circulating power. In contrast,S-PWM not only eliminates both sides circulating power and reduces current stress, but also achieves zero-current-switching(ZCS)turn-on for all switches and ZCS turn-off for most across the full power range. No auxiliary or snubber circuits are increased. In addition, the control can be simplified so the transmitted power is related to only one variable. The S-PWM has four cases under different gain and power conditions. The detailed operation principle and modes of DAB under S-PWM are analyzed in the paper. In addition, four modulations in literature are discussed, and corresponding comparative analyses with S-PWM are given. Finally,a laboratory prototype is built to verify advantages and effectiveness of the proposed modulation. 展开更多

Grid-Forming(GFM)converters are prone to fault-induced overcurrent and power angle instability during grid fault-induced voltage sags.To address this, this paper develops a multi-loop coordinated fault ridethrough(FRT)control strategy based on a power outer loop and voltage-current inner loops, aiming to enhance the stability and current-limiting capability of GFM converters during grid fault conditions.During voltage sags, the GFM converter’s voltage source behavior is maintained by dynamically adjusting the reactive power reference to provide voltage support, thereby effectively suppressing the steady-state component of the fault current. To address the active power imbalance induced by voltage sags,a dynamic active power reference correction method based on apparent power is designed to mitigate power angle oscillations and limit transient current. Moreover,an adaptive virtual impedance loop is implemented to enhance dynamic transient current-limiting performance during the fault initiation phase. This approach improves the responsiveness of the inner loop and ensures safe system operation under various fault severities.Under asymmetric fault conditions,a negative-sequence reactive current compensation strategy is incorporated to further suppress negative-sequence voltage and improve voltage symmetry. The proposed control scheme enables coordinated operation of multiple control objectives, including voltage support, current suppression, and power angle stability, across different fault scenarios.Finally,MATLAB/Simulink simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, showcasing its superior performance in current limiting and power angle stability, thereby significantly enhancing the system’s fault ride-through capability. 展开更多

The transient synchronization stability of grid-forming converters(GFMCs)is significantly challenged under grid voltage sags.Continuous efforts have been devoted to analyzing the GFMC transient stability, with limited attention paid to the impacts of control loop dynamics. However, the complex control dynamics, especially the interactions between the active/reactive power control loops and the current saturation process(CSP),are crucial for accurately describing the transient behavior and evaluating the stability. Thus,in this study,a new large-signal GFMC model is established, considering the reactive power control(RPC)with different kinds of controllers and the CSP simultaneously. It is revealed that GFMC does not switch to the current-limited mode immediately, and the dynamics of RPC further affect the transient behavior before the current limiting significantly.Hence, the complex control dynamics can alter the mode switching point of current saturation, thereby increasing the risk of loss of synchronization(LOS).Based on the above findings, comprehensive comparisons of typical RPC controllers are presented to facilitate practical engineering applications.A unified stability enhancement method is proposed for solving the problem of LOS.Finally, experiments validate the correctness of the analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. 展开更多

In the future power-electronics-dominated power systems,grid-forming(GFM)converters have been regarded as important devices to actively establish frequency and voltage,so as to provide essential grid support. However, due to their voltage source behavior and emulated swing dynamics,GFM converters may encounter low-frequency oscillations(LFOs)when connected to strong grids, which belongs to the self-stability problem of GFM converters. Moreover,GFM converters will also interact with grid-following(GFL)converters and thus impact the mid-frequency oscillations(MFOs)induced by phase-locked loops(PLLs).It has been preliminarily shown in the literature that GFM converters can help stabilize the PLL-induced MFOs,but currently, there is a lack of systematic design methods to coordinate the self-stability and stabilizing ability of GFM converters. This paper addresses this gap by revisiting the impedance model of a typical GFM converter and briefly analyze the oscillations caused by converters.Based on our analysis,we propose a frequency-partitioned synthesis design framework to enable dynamic virtual impedance(DVI)in GFM converters, aiming to enhance their self-stability and stabilizing ability simultaneously.Particularly,a self-stabilizing module is designed to ensure robust device-level damping, with control parameters auto-tuned using H∞methods. In parallel,a stabilizing module is introduced to stabilize GFL converters and enhance the system-level stability, which utilizes a perceive-and-optimize tuning strategy.Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed synthesis DVI framework. 展开更多

A multi-phase stacked interleaved buck converter(SIBC)is suitable for large-power water electrolysis applications due to its merits of high current output capability and zero output current ripple. However, the auxiliary converter used to compensate for the current ripple still has to withstand high voltage stress. This paper proposes a new multi-phase SIBC applied in the multicarrier energy system integrating electricity, heat, and hydrogen.A resistor-capacitor voltage divider is used to provide the input voltage of the auxiliary converter and as a heater for the thermal loads. Thus, the voltage stress of the auxiliary converter can be reduced at a low cost, and the size of the filter inductor can be reduced. With accurate voltage and current analysis and appropriate parameter design, the voltage stresses of both the switches and capacitors in the auxiliary converter can be further limited within an expected range. The experimental results verify the correctness of the topology, modulation, analysis, and design methods.A comparison with the conventional method is made in terms of cost, volume, and efficiency to show the advantages of the proposed method. 展开更多

As key equipment in medium voltage DC(MVDC)systems, modular multilevel AC/DC and DC/DC converters(MM-AC/DC,MM-DC/DC)have drawn marvelous attractions. However, research on DC fault ride-through focuses on MM-AC/DC,and the fault current elimination for MM-DC/DC remains a research gap, which limits the wide application of the MVDC system. To fulfil this research gap,the contribution of this paper is revealing the fault current characteristics of MM-DC/DC based on half-bridge and full-bridge submodules(HBSM and FBSM)and proposing a novel MM-DC/DC based on hybrid HBSM and thyristor-diode module(TDM).By integrating TDM in the upper bridge arm of one phase and the down bridge arm of the other phase in MM-DC/DC,the MM-DC/DC achieves self-elimination of fault currents. The basic concept is using the energy at the healthy side to modulate a reverse voltage source(RVS)at the faulty side of MM-DC/DC,forcing fault current through TDM pass across zero.TDM can extinguish the resulting fault current. The parameter design and control strategy of the novel MM-DC/DC are discussed.Simulation is carried out for verification, and the results show that fault current can be eliminated within several milliseconds without causing excessive operating losses and costs. 展开更多

In order to solve the problems of slow dynamic response and difficult multi-source coordination of solar electric vehicle charging stations under intermittent renewable energy, this paper proposes a hardware-algorithm co-design framework:the T-type three-level bidirectional converter(100 kHz switching frequency)based on silicon carbide(SiC)MOSFET is deeply integrated with fuzzy model predictive control(Fuzzy-MPC).At the hardware level, the switching trajectory and resonance suppression circuit(attenuation resonance peak 18 dB)are optimized, and the total loss is reduced by 23%compared with the traditional silicon-based IGBT.At the algorithm level, the adaptive parameter update mechanism and multi-objective rolling optimization are adopted, and the 5 ms level dynamic power allocation is realized by relying on edge computing.Experiments on 800 V DC microgrid(including 600 kW photovoltaic and 150 A·h energy storage)built based on MATLAB/Simulink hardware-in-the-loop(HIL)platform show that the system shortens the battery charging time from 42 to 28 min(the charging speed is increased by 33%).Through the 78%valley power utilization rate, the power purchase cost of high-priced power grids was significantly reduced, and the levelized electricity price decreased by 10.3%;Under the irradiation fluctuation, the renewable energy consumption rate increases by 10.1%,and the DC bus voltage fluctuation is stable within±10 V when the load step is±30%.The co-design provides an economically feasible and dynamically robust solution for the efficient integration of PV-ESG-EV in the smart grid. 展开更多

To address the issue of abnormal energy consumption fluctuations in the converter steelmaking process,an integrated diagnostic method combining the gray wolf optimization(GWO)algorithm, support vector machine(SVM),and K-means clustering was proposed.Eight input parameters—derived from molten iron conditions and external factors—were selected as feature variables.A GWO-SVM model was developed to accurately predict the energy consumption of individual heats.Based on the prediction results, the mean absolute percentage error and maximum relative error of the test set were employed as criteria to identify heats with abnormal energy usage. For these heats, the K-means clustering algorithm was used to determine benchmark values of influencing factors from similar steel grades, enabling root-cause diagnosis of excessive energy consumption. The proposed method was applied to real production data from a converter in a steel plant. The analysis reveals that heat sample No.44 exhibits abnormal energy consumption, due to gas recovery being 1430.28 kg of standard coal below the benchmark level.A secondary contributing factor is a steam recovery shortfall of 237.99 kg of standard coal. This integrated approach offers a scientifically grounded tool for energy management in converter operations and provides valuable guidance for optimizing process parameters and enhancing energy efficiency. 展开更多

Based on the empirical Gardner equation describing the relationship between density and compressional wave velocity, the converted wave reflection coefficient extrema attributes for AVO analysis are proposed and the relations between the extrema position and amplitude, average velocity ratio across the interface, and shear wave reflection coefficient are derived. The extrema position is a monotonically decreasing function of average velocity ratio, and the extrema amplitude is a function of average velocity ratio and shear wave reflection coefficient. For theoretical models, the average velocity ratio and shear wave reflection coefficient are inverted from the extrema position and amplitude obtained from fitting a power function to converted wave AVO curves. Shear wave reflection coefficient sections have clearer physical meaning than conventional converted wave stacked sections and establish the theoretical foundation for geological structural interpretation and event correlation. "The method of inverting average velocity ratio and shear wave reflection coefficient from the extrema position and amplitude obtained from fitting a power function is applied to real CCP gathers. The inverted average velocity ratios are consistent with those computed from compressional and shear wave well logs. 展开更多

In this paper, we use the method of pseudo-offset migration (POM) to complete converted wave pre-stack time migration with amplitude-preservation in an anisotropic medium. The method maps the original traces into common conversion scatter point (CCSP) gathers directly by POM, which simplifies the conventional processing procedure for converted waves. The POM gather fold and SNR are high, which is favorable for velocity analysis and especially suitable for seismic data with low SNR. We used equivalent anisotropic theory to compute anisotropic parameters. Based on the scattering wave traveltime equation in a VTI medium, the POM pseudo-offset migration in anisotropic media was deduced. By amplitude-preserving POM gather mapping, velocity analysis, stack processing, and so on, the anisotropic migration results were acquired. The forward modeling computation and actual data processing demonstrate the validity of converted wave pre-stack time migration with amplitude-preservation using the anisotropic POM method. 展开更多

PS converted-waves (C-waves) have been commonly used to image through gas clouds but the C-wave imaging may also be degraded by the diodic effect introduced by the gas cloud. It may be compensated for using a velocity perturbation method which decouples the diodic moveout into two parts: the base velocity and the velocity perturbation. Gas clouds are widely distributed in the Sanhu area in the Qaidam basin of northwest China which is rich in natural gas. A land 2D3C seismic dataset is analyzed from the Sanhu area and significant diodic effects are observed in the data which harm the C-wave imaging. The diodic correction is applied to this data and the resultant C-wave imaging and the details of the reservoir structure are significantly improved. The diodic moveout plays an important role in working out the residu~ shear wave statics and the association of diodie correction and shear wave residual statics computation is a key step of C-wave high fidelity imaging in the gas cloud area. Tracking problem in spherical coordinates with range rate (Doppler) measurements, which would have errors correlated to the range measurement errors, is investigated in this paper. The converted Doppler measurements, constructed by the product of the Doppler measurements and range measurements, are used to replace the original Doppler measurements. A de-noising method based on an unbiased Kalman filter (KF) is proposed to reduce the converted Doppler measurement errors before updating the target states for the constant velocity (CV) model. The states from the de-noising filter are then combined with the Cartesian states from the converted measurement Kalman filter (CMKF) to produce final state estimates. The nonlinearity of the de-noising filter states are handled by expanding them around the Cartesian states from the CMKF in a Taylor series up to the second order term. In the mean time, the correlation between the two filters caused by the common range measurements is handled by a mini- mum mean squared error (MMSE) estimation-based method. These result in a new tracking filter, CMDN-EKF2. Monte Carlo simulations demonstrate that the proposed tracking filter can provide efficient and robust performance with a modest computa- tional cost. 展开更多

Conventional land vertical seismic profiling (VSP) exploration usually uses P-wave sources and three-component geophones for receivers, emphasizing P- and converted S-waves. Previous studies show that both dynamite borehole shots and vertical vibrations from controllable seismic sources at the surface will produce relatively strong pure P-waves and weaker pure S-waves. Interfaces with a large Poisson's ratio difference have a positive influence on the formation of strong transmitted converted S-waves. By a comparative analysis of pure S-waves from sources and converted downgoing S-waves, we believe that the main frequency of pure S-waves is usually lower than pure P-waves while the main frequency of downgoing converted S-waves is close to that of P-waves. We have studied zero-offset and offset VSP data from land P-wave sources. Results show that pure S-waves commonly exist in these data with differences in wave intensity. S-wave velocity can be obtained from the P-wave source zero-offset VSP data. Finally, we discuss the bright future of joint application of VSP P-and S-waves and the full use of S-waves in P-wave source VSP data. 展开更多

In transversely isotropic media with a vertical symmetry axis (VTI), the converted-wave (C-wave) moveout over intermediate-to-far offsets is determined by four parameters. These are the C-wave stacking velocity Vc2 , the vertical and effective velocity ratios γ0 and γeff, and the anisotropic parameter χeff. We refer to the four parameters as the C-wave stacking velocity model. The purpose of C-wave velocity analysis is to determine this stacking velocity model. The C-wave stacking velocity model Vc2, γ0, γeff, and χeff can be determined from P-and C-wave reflection moveout data. However, error propagation is a severe problem in C-wave reflection-moveout inversion. The current short-spread stacking velocity as deduced from hyperbolic moveout does not provide sufficient accuracy to yield meaningful inverted values for the anisotropic parameters. The non-hyperbolic moveout over intermediate-offsets (x/z from 1.0 to 1.5) is no longer negligible and can be quantified using a background γ. Non-hyperbolic analysis with a γ correction over the intermediate offsets can yield Vc2 with errors less than 1% for noise free data. The procedure is very robust, allowing initial guesses of γ with up to 20% errors. It is also applicable for vertically inhomogeneous anisotropic media. This improved accuracy makes it possible to estimate anisotropic parameters using 4C seismic data. Two practical work flows are presented for this purpose: the double-scanning flow and the single-scanning flow. Applications to synthetic and real data show that the two flows yield results with similar accuracy but the single-scanning flow is more efficient than the double-scanning flow. 展开更多

This paper describes a new algorithm for the 2-D converted-measurement Kalman filter (CMKF) which estimates a target’s Cartesian state given polar position measurements. At each processing index, the new algorithm chooses the more accurate of (1) the sensor’s polar position measurement and (2) the CMKF’s Cartesian position prediction. The new algorithm then computes the raw converted measurement’s error bias and the corresponding debiased converted measurement’s error covariance conditioned on the chosen position estimate. The paper derives explicit expressions for the polar-measurement-conditioned bias and covariance and shows the resulting polar-measurement-conditioned CMKF’s mathematical equivalence with the 2-D modified unbiased CMKF (MUCMKF). The paper also describes a method, based upon the unscented transformation, for approximating the raw converted measurement’s error bias and the debiased converted measurement’s error covariance conditioned on the CMKF’s Cartesian position prediction. Simulation results demonstrate the new CMKF’s improved tracking performance and statistical credibility as compared to those of the 2-D MUCMKF. 展开更多

This gives rise to serious non-hyperbolic moveout effects in the converted-wave data due to both the asymmetrical ray path and anisotropic effects. Conventional velocity analysis and moveout correction based on isotropic methods do not flatten reflections events. Here, we use a four-parameter theory to evaluate these effects and process the data. These four parameters include the PS converted wave stacking velocity (Vc2), the vertical velocity ratio (Y0), the effective velocity ratio (Yeff), and the anisotropy parameter (xoff), The method utilizes the moveout information at different offsets to estimate the different parameters and ensures that the events are properly aligned for stacking, As a result, this four-parameter theory leads to an improvement in imaging quality and correlation between the P-waves and converted-waves. 展开更多

Studies of converted S-wave data recorded on the ocean bottom seismometer(OBS)allow for the estimation of crustal S-wave velocity, from which is further derived the Vp/Vs ratio to constrain the crustal lithology and geophysical properties.Constructing a precise S-wave velocity model is important for deep structural research, and inversion of converted S-waves provides a potential solution. However, the inversion of the converted S-wave remains a weakness because of the complexity of the seismic ray path and the inconsistent conversion interface. In this study,we introduced two travel time correction methods for the S-wave velocity inversion and imaged different S-wave velocity structures in accordance with the corresponding corrected S-wave phases using seismic data of profile EW6 in the northeastern South China Sea(SCS).The two inversion models show a similar trend in velocities, and the velocity difference is<0.15 km/s(mostly in the range of 0–0.1 km/s),indicating the accuracy of the two travel time correction methods and the reliability of the inversion results.According to simulations of seismic ray tracing based on different models, the velocity of sediments is the primary influencing factor in ray tracing for S-wave phases. If the sedimentary layer has high velocities, the near offset crustal S-wave refractions cannot be traced. In contrast, the ray tracing of Moho S-wave reflections was not significantly impacted by the velocity of the sediments. The two travel time correction methods have their own advantages, and the application of different approaches is based on additional requirements. These works provide an important reference for future improvements in converted S-wave research. 展开更多
