The parametric expression of controller is given based on the feasible solution of linear matrix inequality. One of the most effective ways to reduce the negative effect of delays on the performance of networked control system (NCS) is to reduce network traffic. In this paper, adjustable deadbands are explored as a solution to reduce network traffic in NCS. A method of fault-tolerant control of networked control system is presented, which takes into account system response as well as network traffic. The integrity design for a kind of NCS with sensor failures and actuator failures is analyzed based on robust fault-tolerant control theory and information scheduling. After detailed theoretical analysis, the paper also provides the simulation results, which further validate the proposed scheme. 展开更多

To investigate a class of nonlinear network control system, a robust fault diagnosis method is presented based on the robust state observer. To access the objective that the designed robust filter is maximally tolerant to disturbances and sensitive to fault, the robustness and stability properties of the fault diagnosis scheme are established rigorously. Using the residual vector, a fault tolerant controller is established in order to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system, and the controller law can be obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. Then, some relevant sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution are given by applying Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, a simulation example is performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Quantized fault detection for sensor/actuator faults of networked control systems (NCSs) with time delays both in the sensor-to-controller channel and controller-to-actuator channel is concerned in this paper. A fault model is set up based on the possible cases of sensor/atuator faults. Then, the model predictive control is used to compensate the time delay. When the sensors and actuators are healthy, an H stability criterion of the state predictive observer is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequality. A new threshold computational method that conforms to the actual situation is proposed. Then, the thresholds of the false alarm rate (FAR) and miss detection rate (MDR) are presented by using our proposed method, which are also compared with the ones given in the existin~ literatures. Finally, some numerical simulations are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Now, there are many positive results in FDD for linear networked control systems (LNCSs), but nonlinear networked control systems (NNCSs) are less involved. Based on the T-S fuzzy-modeling theory, NNCSs are modeled and network random time-delays are changed into the unknown bounded uncertain part without changing its structure. Then a fuzzy state observer is designed and an observer-based fault detection approach for an NNCS is presented. The main results are given and the relative theories are proved in detail. Finally, some simulation results are given and demonstrate the proposed method is effective. 展开更多

Without changing the structure of the system, an Hoo states observer is designed for NCS with short time-delay. Based on the designed states observer, a robust fault detection approach is proposed for NCS. In addition, an optimization method for the selection of the detection threshold is introduced for better tradeoff between the robustness and the sensitivity. An adaptive robust approach for actuator fault-tolerant control of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems is proposed.The two chief ways in which the system performance can degrade following an actuator-fault are undesirable transients and unacceptably large steady-state tracking errors.Adaptive control based schemes can achieve good final tracking accuracy in spite of change in system parameters following an actuator fault,and robust control based designs can achieve guaranteed transient response.However,neither adaptive control nor robust control based fault-tolerant designs can address both the issues associated with actuator faults.In the present work,an adaptive robust fault-tolerant control scheme is claimed to solve both the problems,as it seamlessly integrates adaptive and robust control design techniques.Comparative simulation studies are performed using a nonlinear hypersonic aircraft model to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme over a robust adaptive control based faulttolerant scheme. 展开更多

Based on a redundant actuation structure, a novel type-2 adaptive fuzzy fault tolerant control scheme is proposed using sliding mode control. Two adaptive type-2 fuzzy logic systems are used to approximate the unknown functions, whose adaptation laws are deduced from the stability analysis. The proposed approach allows to ensure good tracking performance despite the presence of actuator failures and external disturbances, as illustrated through a simulation example. 展开更多

This paper presents an introductory overview on the development of fault-tolerant control systems. For this reason, the paper is written in a tutorial fashion to summarize some of the important results in this subject area deliberately without going into details in any of them. However, key references are provided from which interested readers can obtain more detailed information on a particular subject. It is necessary to mention that, throughout this paper, no efforts were made to provide an exhaustive coverage on the subject matter. In fact, it is far from it. The paper merely represents the view and experience of its author. It can very well be that some important issues or topics were left out unintentionally. If that is the case, the author sincerely apologizes in advance.After a brief account of fault-tolerant control systems, particularly on the original motivations, and the concept of redundancies, the paper reviews the development of fault-tolerant control systems with highlights to several important issues from a historical perspective. The general approaches to fault-tolerant control has been divided into passive, active, and hybrid approaches. The analysis techniques for active fault-tolerant control systems are also discussed. Practical applications of faulttolerant control are highlighted from a practical and industrial perspective. Finally, some critical issues in this area are discussed as open problems for future research/development in this emerging field. 展开更多

New methods for designing indirect adaptive fault-tolerant controllers via state feedback are presented for actuator fault compensations. Based on the on-line estimation of eventual faults, the adaptive fault-tolerant controller parameters are updating automatically to compensate the fault effects on systems. The designs are developed in the framework of linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, which can enlarge the domain of attraction of closed-loop systems in the cases of actuator saturation and actuator failures. Using backstepping technique, a novel adaptive fuzzy control approach is proposed to accommodate the uncertain actuator faults during operation and deal with the external disturbances though the systems cannot be linearized by feedback. The considered faults are modeled as both loss of effectiveness and lock-in-place (stuck at some unknown place). It is proved that the proposed control scheme can guarantee all signals of the closed-loop system to be semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded and the tracking error between the system output and the reference signal converge to a small neighborhood of zero, though the nonlinear functions of the controlled system as well as the actuator faults and the external disturbances are all unknown. The problem of guaranteed cost active fault-tolerant controller (AFTC) design for networked control systems (NCSs) with both packet dropout and transmission delay is studied in this paper. Considering the packet dropout and transmission delay, a piecewise constant controller is adopted. With a guaranteed cost function, optimal controllers whose number is equal to the number of actuators are designed, and the design process is formulated as a convex optimal problem that can be solved by existing software. The control strategy is proposed as follows: when actuator failures appear, the fault detection and isolation unit sends out the information to the controller choosing strategy, and then the optimal stabilizing controller with the smallest guaranteed cost value is chosen. Two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. By comparing with the existing methods, it can be seen that our method has a better performance. 展开更多

These systems with fault accommodation are becoming more and moreimportant while appearing in flight control, robots control and nuclear reactor control etc, andcalling for more rigorous development approach. A formal approach is explored in this parer, basedon Extended Duration Calculus, for the development of such kind of systems. A typical exampleof control system with fault accommodation, two-level control system, is used for illstrating ourapproach. Its high level consists of an event-driven supervisor which reeds to the change of plant dueto faults occurrence, and its low level consists of normal controller, reconfigured controller and othercomponents with FDI (Fault Detection and Isolation) mechanism. Firstly performance and systemspecifications of the case are formulated in EDC; Then they are refined step wisely into specificationsof the supervisor and the low level components.
