Interpretivist Constructivism: A Valuable Approach for Qualitative Nursing Research

Background: In response to the limitations of logical empiricism, interpretivism emerged as a philosophical approach for developing nursing knowledge. This paper discusses interpretivist constructivism and its value to qualitative nursing research. Methods: The paper synthesizes relevant literature on the importance of interpretivist constructivism in nursing research. It reviews the key elements of interpretivism, the principles of constructivism, the connection between the two approaches, the benefits and limitations of constructivism in nursing research, and the steps for conducting constructivist stroke nursing research. Results: Interpretivist constructivism emphasizes the importance of human experiences, interactions, and social contexts in knowledge development. It allows nurse researchers to adopt flexible, participant-driven approaches to explore and understand complex subjective human phenomena. This approach respects the unique perspectives and contexts of stakeholders, including patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and knowledge users. By following specific steps, constructivist researchers can improve the rigor, transparency, and validity of qualitative nursing research while reducing biases in interpreting the inherently subjective experiences of patients. Conclusion: A deeper understanding of the complexities of interpretivism and constructivism in qualitative research is essential. The advancement of medical science has elevated medical English to a critical role in facilitating international medical exchange and scientific collaboration.However,traditional medical English pedagogy often suffers from an overemphasis on linguistic knowledge at the expense of practical application and a teacher-centered approach that neglects knowledge construction.These limitations hinder the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents required for clinical practice and scientific research.Guided by constructivist learning theory and utilizing the teaching case of the course“Emerging Pathogenic Fungal Infections,”this study explores reform pathways through reconstructing teaching objectives,redesigning instructional processes,and optimizing assessment systems.Specifically,targeted curriculum enhancements were implemented to strengthen students’international literature reading proficiency.The reform aims to holistically improve students’ability to utilize medical English for solving practical problems,offering valuable insights for medical English education. 展开更多

This paper is about the transformation process of theoretical frameworks used in educational research on teaching evolution. To this end, some authors' claims, findings and suggestions offered via particular studies are evaluated. While the evaluated authors have represented secularism as a barrier to teaching evolution in the United States, they have also offered pedagogically theistic or agnostic evolution as the best choice for the reconciliation of religion and evolution. This paper is particularly concerned with one of the explanatory theoretical frameworks—religious cultural competence in evolution education(ReCCEE), which is derived from the cultural competence framework—although others are visited as well. Even though the schools or authors who have applied ReCCEE do not directly reference constructivism, their studies are built upon constructivist pedagogy and epistemological idealism. They often have problematic issues such as obscurantism, ad hominem attacks, cherry-picking and an ill-formed appeal to authority. Besides, these papers present biased or uncritical views and ill-informed definitions of some terms, such as secularism and agnosticism. 展开更多

Knowledge is not "out there", as the realist philosophers such as Plato claimed. Knowledge is always an interpretation of reality, not a "true" representation of it. Based on a new theoretical perspective, this paper attempts to unify the seemingly incompatible learning theories of Connectivism and Constructivism into a scientific theoretical framework. The Connectivism-Constructivism learning theory is not a simple superposition of the two theories. Instead, it absorbs the essence of the learning theory of Constructivism, Connectivism and Neo-Constructivism, and takes the two empirical scientific experimental results of developmental cognitive neuroscience and spiking neural network as the factual basis, and develops two theories from the perspective of development. Integration, to achieve the resolution of contradictions, complement each other, and then rebuild. This paper discusses Con<span "="">nectivism-Constructivism learning theory. The theory holds that the essence of knowledge is the connecti<span style="letter-spacing:-0.05pt;">on between the subject and the environment. There are two form</span>s: physical form and logical form. </span><span "="">The </span><span "="">only logical form can be realized and utilized by people. Learning can be divided into two stages: connection and construction. Connection is the premise, construction is the core, and the network action generated in the connection stage as a raw material is pruned, and processed by various systems in the construction stage to become psychological representation. When the psychological representation is used, the relevant network shaping is finished, and the meaningful network is formed, which completes the change of knowledge from physical form to logical form and from logical form to physical form. Therefore, learning is the process of constructing meaningful network. We should not only promote the students’ connection stage, but also help the students’ construction stage. The innovation and breakthrough contribution of this paper is that it is the first time to look at the topic of learning theory from a new research perspective. In order t<span style="letter-spacing:-0.05pt;">o explore a more convincing learning theoretical framework, this artic</span>le takes the lead in seeking theoretical support and factual basis from developmental cognitive neuroscience and Spiking neural network. The article provides an analysis of the approach to cognition in the theory of constructivism according to different constructivism concepts such as: methodical constructivism, scientific-theoretical constructivism, natural epistemology, personal construct theory, social constructivism, concepts of some radical constructivism representatives, constructive realism. The analysis demonstrates that constructivism helps to establish subject's control over the reality perceived by him when eliminating any deviations or resentments from his preferable target condition. In this case, the model of the world cognized contains only the aspects which are relevant to subject's purposes and actions. It is advanced the idea the current stage of science development is connected with the change of its fundamental bases. As a result, the model of the reality becomes a result of interaction between subject of scientific and cognitive activity with the reality, but the ideas of constructivism in its classical meaning don't correspond to this conclusion. The author proves that cognition based on the constructive realism is the most appropriate to the modern stage of epistemology development as it cancels the opposition of constructivism and realism in some extent and promotes getting a rational knowledge about the reality by subject. 展开更多

Thus teacher's task has changed to construct and arrange learning environment. In this environment, student is planner, monitor and also evaluator; while teacher acts as administrator, organizer, catalyst, facilitator, consultant, diagnostician, guide, and model of learning instead of the source of knowledge, the disseminator of knowledge and the implanter in the learning process.
