For the most part, this friction has been couched in the unexamined assumption that Western medicine is based on science, while Chinese medicine is not. This article will examine that assumption, which in this author’s opinion is unjustified and incorrect. Having practiced acupuncture for the past 50 years, after receiving my doctoral degrees in medicine and physiology, my thinking on this topic has also evolved over time. I will begin this article with some historical information that bears on the topic under discussion, followed by my personal ideas about how to resolve the confiicts that have arisen.展开更多

Research Hypothesis: Qi stagnation constitution may be a potential predisposing constitution for gallstone disease, whereas the Balanced Constitution and Yin deficiency constitution have a lower tendency towards the development of the disease;gallstone disease is more prevalent among young men engaged in mental labor. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 180 patients with gallstone disease who were hospitalized in the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), from July 2017 to July 2023. Additionally, 180 healthy individuals undergoing physical examinations at the Health Examination Center of the same hospital were selected as the normal control group. Both groups underwent general condition surveys, TCM constitution scales, Eysenck Personality Questionnaires, Brief Coping Styles Questionnaires, and Social Support Rating Scales to determine risk factors and common types. Results: Independent variables such as gender, Qi stagnation constitution, Balanced Constitution, negative coping scores, positive coping scores, and stressful life events were included in the model. The OR values for Balanced Constitution, gender, positive coping style, and overall social support were all less than 1, and the maximum value of the 95% confidence interval was also less than 1. After selecting the intercept into the model and analyzing the standardized regression coefficients, it was found that negative coping scores had a significant impact on the model, while stressful life events showed extremely high relevance to the study. Compared with the normal group, the frequency of Qi stagnation constitution in the study group significantly increased, with a significant difference (P χ2 = 11.109, P = 0.0009, indicating a significant difference (P χ2 = 4.0890, P = 0.0432, indicating a significant difference (P 0.05). However, when comparing mental workers with physical workers within the patient group, the frequency of Qi stagnation constitution in mental workers was significantly higher, with χ2 = 6.8467, P = 0.012, indicating a significant difference (P Conclusion: Qi stagnation constitution is a potential predisposing constitution for gallstone disease, whereas the tendency to develop the disease is relatively low for Balanced Constitution and Yin deficiency constitution. Gallstone disease is more commonly found in young male mental workers.展开更多

文摘Objectives:By investigating the distinct speech and voice phenotype among TCM constitution for adults, this study aims at providing a convenient and objective methodological reference for judging TCM constitution. Methods:Acoustic analysis and TCM constitution assessment were performed for all 620 participants using Praat software and the CCMQ,respectively. Results:For formant features, the speech duration of special constitution participants was shorter than that of neutral,phlegm-dampness,dampness-heat,Yin-deficiency,or Yang-deficiency participants when pronuncing the vowels/a/,/i/,and/u/.Compare to Yang-deficiency,Qi-deficiency participants had a shorter speech duration when pronucing/i/.For/u/,blood-stasis participants exhibited a lower F1 value than neutral participants. For vocal features, special constitution participants showed higher local jitter than neutral,dampness-heat,and Yang-deficiency participants(for/a/,/i/,and/u/).Higher absolute local jitter than neutral or dampness-heat participants.Compared with neutral or Yang-deficiency participants, special participants owned a higher local shimmer(dB).Special participants had a lower harmonicity autocorrelation than neutral,dampness-heat,or Yang-deficiency participants. Conclusions:Formant features may effectively differentiate special constitution from neutral,phlegm-dampness,dampness-heat,Yin-deficiency,or Yang-deficiency constitutions based on vowel duration measurements(/a/,/i/,/u/).For the vowel/u/,F1 values may help distinguish blood-stasis from neutral constitution.Vocal features appear particularly useful for distinguishing special constitution from neutral,dampness-heat,or Yang-deficiency constitution, with local jitter and harmonicity autocorrelation showing significant discriminatory power.
文摘In Eastern medicine,an individual’s health and longevity is believed to depend on the balance of their metabolic energies, classified as body constitution.Traditional Mongolian Medicine categorizes the body into seven constitution types based on metabolic dominance, influencing physical traits, behavioral tendencies, disease susceptibility, and adaptability to environmental factors. This study aims to analyze the principles of disease prevention based on body constitution in Eastern medicine, with a focus on Traditional Mongolian and Tibetan medical perspectives. It looks to clarify body constitution classifications, explore dietary management strategies, and highlight their significance in maintaining health and preventing diseases. This study adopts a literature review approach, incorporating source analysis, synthesis, and hermeneutic methodology to examine traditional medical theories related to body constitution.Classical texts from Traditional Tibetan medicine, including the rGyud-bZhi and Golden Subtitles, were analyzed alongside comparative research on Traditional Chinese and Korean constitutional medicine. The study integrates historical perspectives with modern biomedical insights to establish a comprehensive understanding of constitution-based health management. The findings indicate that the three principal metabolic energies—rLung,mKhris, and Bad-Kan—serve as symbolic codes representing physiological and metabolic states.By recognizing their body constitution, individuals can adopt constitutionally tailored dietary and lifestyle practices to maintain balance and prevent diseases.A comparative analysis reveals similarities and differences among different Eastern medical systems, while still demonstrating the potential for integrating constitutional medicine with modern healthcare approaches.
文摘The understanding of the scope of protection for the right to health should not be limited to fragmented descriptions in departmental laws, such as those focusing on rights, interests,or legal benefits.Instead,it should be analyzed holistically within the constitutional framework of fundamental rights. From the perspective of defense right function, the right to health addresses physiological harm that progresses through stages of“risk-danger-infringement,”psychological harm that targets inner distress, and minor harm arising from challenges in social adaptation,to clarify the negative defensive obligations of the state to prevent health-related harm. From the perspectives of the beneficiary right function and the objective value order function, the right to health requires a minimum level of constitutional protection and delineating the positive obligations of the state to ensure it through the fulfillment of basic obligations in healthcare and health promotion.

文摘Promoting environmental sustainability in South Africa’s cities through public participation is vital for foster-ing inclusive governance and equitable decision-making.Currently,63%of South Africa’s population—and 64%of its youth—live in urban areas, with this figure expected to rise to nearly 80%by 2050.Rapid urbanisation brings significant environmental challenges, including air and noise pollution, greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions, and inadequate waste management.Globally, cities contribute over 70%of GHG emissions and consume two-thirds of the world’s energy.South African cities face similar issues:worsening air quality in regions like the Highveld, water scarcity, urban flooding, waste management problems, and biodiversity loss due to urban sprawl. This article explores how South Africa’s consti-tutional and legislative frameworks support public participation in promoting urban environmental sustainability.Using doctrinal research,it examines key legal instruments—including the Constitution and environmental laws—that establish participatory rights and promote transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. The article draws on court decisions and case studies to highlight ongoing barriers to meaningful participation, particularly for marginalised communities. These include administrative inefficiencies, political interference, and unequal access to information and resources. The article concludes by proposing strategies such as capacity-building initiatives, the integration of traditional knowledge systems, and enhanced institutional coordination to strengthen public participation and improve urban environmental outcomes, addressing both global environmental pressures and South Africa’s unique urban sustainability challenges.

文摘Allergic diseases, encompassing a wide array of conditions such as allergic rhinitis(AR),allergic asthma(AAS),atopic dermatitis(AD),and food allergy(FA),among others, represent a significant menace to global public health. The heterogeneity of these diseases, along with their intricate pathogenesis and propensity for recur-rence,has spurred an escalating demand for efficacious therapeutic strategies.Notwithstanding the advance-ments in western medicine(WM),treatment modalities like antihistamines, sulfonamides, and glucocorticoids exhibit side effects, especially for the neurotoxicity and the adverse reactions of the digestive system.Addi-tionally,physical therapies utilized in allergy management frequently perturb skin metabolism, potentially resulting in stratum corneum impairment, atrophy, pigmentation, and relapse, thereby mandating further investigation and optimization. The management of allergic disorders is often typified by recurrence and diffi-culties in attaining a definitive cure, instigating the pursuit of alternative or adjunctive therapeutic regimens. In this regard,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),which adopts a comprehensive and holistic view of health and disease, confers remarkable advantages in the treatment of allergic conditions.TCM accentuates the significance of personalized treatment,custom-tailored to each patient’s idiosyncratic constitution and disease manifestations,a principle that is especially germane in allergic conditions where standardized treatments frequently fall short. Moreover,TCM interventions, including herbal remedies, acupuncture, and other modalities, are generally associated with a lower incidence of adverse effects compared to conventional therapies, rendering them appealing options for long-term management. The holistic paradigm of TCM permits the concurrent modulation of multiple physiological systems, not only alleviating the symptoms but also rectifying the underlying imbalances that underpin the development and perpetuation of allergic diseases. This approach,in conjunction with the capacity to individualize treatments, implies that TCM harbors sub-stantial potential in conferring more comprehensive and sustainable relief from allergic symptoms. This article delves into the TCM perspective on allergic diseases and the contemporary value of TCM in their treatment. It further explores the developmental pathway of TCM in addressing allergic diseases, dissects the intersection points between traditional theories and modern science, summarizes the key findings and conclusions, and emphasizes the potential and prospects of TCM in this domain.

文摘OBJECTIVE:To utilize the Traditional Chinese Medicine constitution(TCMC)as a complementary and alternative approach for early disease detection and treatment, with a focus on Yin and Yang deficiency constitutions, which serve as key references for disease prevention and management.METHODS:The dataset containing the data of Yin and Yang deficiency constitution was identified through the Gene Expression Omnibus database. This database was used for differential expression genes(DEGs)analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis(WGCNA),and the characteristic genes were then obtained in the dataset using a machine learning method. The hub genes of Yin and Yang deficiency constitution were obtained after analysis using the above three methods, and the hub genes were enriched and analyzed.Subsequently, the hub genes of Yin and Yang deficiency constitution were validated using external datasets.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis was used on each hub genes of the two groups to further understand their diagnostic performance. The mi RNA–lnc RNA-gene network was used to further analyze the hub genes.Immunoinfiltration and gene set enrichment analysis were performed on the shared hub genes.RESULTS:The GSE87474 dataset was used for DEGs analysis and WGCNA.Using machine learning analyses,we identified 15 and 14 hub genes for Yin and Yang deficiency constitutions, respectively. The results of enrichment analyses showed that Yin deficiency constitution was associated with interleukin-17 signaling pathway, whereas Yang deficiency constitution was associated with glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis–keratan sulfate. The validation dataset GSE56116 showed statistically significant data for s-adenosylmethionine sensor upstream of MTORC1(SAMTOR,also named C7orf60),cofilin 2(CFL2),cytohesin 1 interacting protein(CYTIP),G protein-coupled receptor 183(GPR183),hippocampus abundant transcript 1(HIAT1),kelch like family member 15(KLHL15),mitogen-activated protein kinase 6(MAPK6),and prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2(PTGS2)in Yin deficiency and fucosyltransferase 8(FUT8),TATA-box binding protein associated factor,RNA polymerase I subunit D(TAF1D),zinc finger protein 24(ZNF24),MAPK6,and leptin receptor overlapping transcript like 1(LEPROTL1)in Yang deficiency. The ROC results indicated that these genes have diagnostic value.MAPK6 is a shared hub gene for Yin and Yang deficiencies.CONCLUSIONS:This study identified C7orf60,CFL2,CYTIP,GPR183,HIAT1,KLHL15,MAPK6,and PTGS2 in Yin deficiency and FUT8,TAF1D,ZNF24,MAPK6,and LEPROTL1 in Yang deficiency as potential biomarkers, providing insights into their pathogenesis. This theory not only guides the diagnostic approach in TCM but also extends its influence to various scientific research fields.
文摘The inclusion of the human rights clause in the Chi-nese Constitution is the core normative manifestation of the constitu-tionalization of human rights, and points to the relationship between international law and the Constitution in the sense of positive law.The inclusion of the human rights clauses in the Chinese Constitution itself is an inherent part of the development of China’s socialist constitution, and socialism has already contributed valuable concepts and practices of human rights protection to the modern world in its early stage. The constitutionalization of human rights protection does not necessarily lead to the superiority of international law over the constitutional order of a country, but rather to the convergence of international law and domestic law through the constitutional order. The relevant rules of international law will be effective only when they are transformed into domestic law through the Constitution and the human rights clause in the Constitution.Correspondingly, the domestic legal order is brought into line with the international legal order through the Con-stitution and its human rights clause.Behind the system of fundamen-tal rights in the constitutional order is the value foundation of the en-tire legal system. The advancement of foreign-related rule of law has brought new opportunities for China’s judicial practice to further pro-mote the protection of human rights. In the future,we should further integrate the human rights values embedded in socialism into China’s constitutional practice, enhance human rights protection around the country, and take a more active part in global human rights gover-nance.

文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the extent of vascular endothelial dysfunction and preliminary identify serum protein biomarkers associated with obese individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease(CVD).METHODS:Fifteen obese volunteers with the phlegmdampness constitution or balanced constitution were recruited for this study respectively. The clinical baseline data was collected, and the vascular endothelial function was evaluated using the EndoPAT?.Blood samples were collected for the serum proteome analysis. The differences in the serum protein expression levels between the two groups were detected and the protein interaction network analysis, correlation analysis, receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis, and random forest model investigation were conducted.RESULTS:There were no statistical differences found in the baseline data. For vascular endothelial function, the reactive hyperemia index(RHI)of the phlegm-dampness constitution obese group was significantly lower than that of the balanced constitution obese group(1.46±0.30 vs 2.82±0.78,P<0.0001),indicating vascular endothelial dysfunction. There are 66 differentially expressed serum proteins between the two groups.apolipoprotein A2(Apo A2),angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE-2),interleukin-33(IL-33),and forkhead box P3(FoxP3)showed significant differences and area under curve values of their ROC curves were greater than 0.7 and correlated significantly with RHI.CONCLUSION:Vascular endothelial dysfunction was present in the phlegm-dampness constitution obese group. Thus, alterations in the expression levels of key serum proteins, including Apo A2,ACE-2,IL-33,and Fox P3 could serve as potential biomarkers in the obese population at risk of CVD.
文摘Ever since the introduction of Western biomedicine into China, there has been friction between proponents of this new approach, and proponents of the traditional medical practices that had evolved over thousands of years in China. I will begin this article with some historical information that bears on the topic under discussion, followed by my personal ideas about how to resolve the confiicts that have arisen.
文摘On March 14,2004,the Second Session of the 10th National People’s Congress of China adopted the fourth amendment to the Chinese Constitution, the most noticeable highlight of which is the addition of the paragraph“the state respects and protects human rights”as the third clause in Article 33 of Chapter II“Basic Rights and Obligations of Citizens”in the Constitution. The inclusion of the clause of human rights in the Constitution is considered an important milestone in the history of human rights development in the People’s Republic of China. The implementation of the human rights clause not only showcases the values of the Party and the state in respecting and protecting human rights, but also promotes the development of human rights, shapes the culture of human rights, and endows the rule of law with a rich humanistic spirit.Over the past 20 years, the publicity, research and practice of the human rights clause have made the Chi-nese people realize that human rights are not only a“great term”,but also a common value shared by mankind.Amid the once-in-a-century changes of the world, although the development of human rights is facing various challenges, the humanistic spirit contained in the hu-man rights clause has become the internal driving force for building consensus in the whole of society.Reinterpreting the significance and value of the human rights clause can help us conscientiously draw on the experience in the implementation of the clause over the past 20 years and contribute Chinese wisdom and experience to global human rights governance with a more open mind and inclusive attitude.

文摘Objective To cater to the demands for personalized health services from a deep learning per-spective by investigating the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)constitu-tion data and constructing models to explore new prediction methods. Methods Data from students at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were collected and organized according to the 24 solar terms from January 21,2020,to April 6,2022.The data were used to identify nine TCM constitutions, including balanced constitution,Qi deficiency constitution,Yang deficiency constitution,Yin deficiency constitution, phlegm dampness constitution, damp heat constitution, stagnant blood constitution,Qi stagnation constitution, and specific-inherited predisposition constitution.Deep learning algorithms were employed to construct multi-layer perceptron(MLP),long short-term memory(LSTM),and deep belief network(DBN)models for the prediction of TCM constitutions based on the nine constitution types. To optimize these TCM constitution prediction models, this study in-troduced the attention mechanism(AM),grey wolf optimizer(GWO),and particle swarm op-timization(PSO).The models’performance was evaluated before and after optimization us-ing the F1-score,accuracy,precision,and recall. Results The research analyzed a total of 31655 pieces of data.(i)Before optimization, the MLP model achieved more than 90%prediction accuracy for all constitution types except the balanced and Qi deficiency constitutions. The LSTM model's prediction accuracies exceeded 60%,indicating that their potential in TCM constitutional prediction may not have been fully realized due to the absence of pronounced temporal features in the data.Regarding the DBN model, the binary classification analysis showed that, apart from slightly underperforming in predicting the Qi deficiency constitution and damp heat constitution, with accuracies of 65%and 60%,respectively.The DBN model demonstrated considerable discriminative power for other constitution types, achieving prediction accuracy rates and area under the receiver op-erating characteristic(ROC)curve(AUC)values exceeding 70%and 0.78,respectively.This indicates that while the model possesses a certain level of constitutional differentiation abili-ty,it encounters limitations in processing specific constitutional features, leaving room for further improvement in its performance. For multi-class classification problem, the DBN model’s prediction accuracy rate fell short of 50%.(ii)After optimization, the LSTM model, enhanced with the AM,typically achieved a prediction accuracy rate above 75%,with lower performance for the Qi deficiency constitution, stagnant blood constitution, and Qi stagna-tion constitution. The GWO-optimized DBN model for multi-class classification showed an increased prediction accuracy rate of 56%,while the PSO-optimized model had a decreased accuracy rate to 37%.The GWO-PSO-DBN model, optimized with both algorithms,demon-strated an improved prediction accuracy rate of 54%.Conclusion This study constructed MLP,LSTM,and DBN models for predicting TCM consti-tution and improved them based on different optimisation algorithms. The results showed that the MLP model performs well, the LSTM and DBN models were effective in prediction but with certain limitations. This study also provided a new technology reference for the es-tablishment and optimisation strategies of TCM constitution prediction models, and a novel idea for the treatment of non-disease.
文摘Objective: To summarize the common constitutional types in patients with gallstone disease and analyze influencing factors. Gallstone disease is more commonly found in young male mental workers.
