This paper discusses the implementation of self-assessment in consecutive interpreting among novice learners in a non-interpreting environment specifically referring to the interpreting courses offered at USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia), being the only bachelor's degree programme in Translation and Interpreting in Malaysia, and the learners' perception on this mode of assessment with the goal of fostering learner autonomy among them. Such implementation was made possible with the shift from analogue technology to digital technology, the deployment of e-learning in the course instruction, and the shift from teacher-centred learning approach to student-centred learning approach in line with the university's APEX (Accelerated Programme for Excellence) transformation plan. Findings show a high acceptance level of self-assessment among novice learners of interpreting 展开更多

The paper explores the causes of improper effort distribution from three perspectives, namely knowledge of the language, extra-linguistic knowledge, and note-taking method. Then it renders several strategies to address improper effort distribution problems, aiming to offer some inspirations for the future field practice. 展开更多

In interpreting, working memory is in charge of the storage and processing of immediate information, thus making an important factor in influencing interpreting quality. The role played by working memory capacity in interpreting remains to be a hotspot issue in the field of interpreting research.This thesis aims to investigate the relationship between working memory capacity and E-C consecutive interpreting by conducting two tests. The first test is working memory span test and the second one is E-C consecutive interpreting test. By comparing and analyzing the results of two tests, this thesis comes to the conclusion that working memory capacity is positively correlated with E-C consecutive interpreting in terms of fluency and logic. 展开更多

In this study, the sequencing of ST and CI teaching is explored to proof that starting ST teaching first is more logical. Gile's effort model is used to explain the similarities and differences of ST and CI and to set up possible effect of ST on CI. The expansion of the world trade organization and the growth of multinational corporations have promoted China's market economy to head for internationalization; the exchanges of all countries' science and technology, culture, and education have become increasingly frequent and beyond the borders very early, so opening-up has become a world trend. China is playing an important role in this historical process. In this situation, the importance of language translation is increasing day by day, and an unprecedented prosperous situation has especially appeared to the interpretation. In order to accord with this new historical situation, many colleges and universities have set up language translation program and have offered interpretation course. To promote the economic development of China and train more senior interpreters, the studies of interpretation teaching and the improvement of interpretation teaching quality have been particularly important. On the basis of the theory of relevance and transfer, this study puts forward interpreting operation synergism through positive transfer from Visual-Audio-Oral Course of EAP to E-C and C-E interpreting. In the way of consecutive interpreting, the researcher has done the experiments to 147 undergraduate interpreters of non-English majors in five classes taught by him in the second semester from 2014 to 2015. The experimental results show that listening of EAP has the functions of relevance and holistic presupposition to student interpreters, whose audio nerves have been activated once more while listening to SL (source language) information. At this moment, the function of transferring SL information as input occurs. And further, speaking of EAP also has the functions of relevance and holistic presupposition to student interpreters, whose oral nerves have been activated once more while encoding and expressing in TL (target language). At this moment the results of transferring information as TL output are prominent. Therefore, Visual-Audio-Oral Course of EAP has the effect of relevance, transfer and presupposition to student interpreters' interpreting operation in China. 展开更多

本研究旨在调查母语是汉语的译员在汉英交替传译过程中记录笔记遇到的主要困难,以及哪些具体原因导致他们的笔记困难。本研究的创新之处在于使用了"有提示回忆"(stimulatedrecall)这一调查工具,并辅以访谈,分析6名国际会议职... 本研究旨在调查母语是汉语的译员在汉英交替传译过程中记录笔记遇到的主要困难,以及哪些具体原因导致他们的笔记困难。本研究的创新之处在于使用了"有提示回忆"(stimulatedrecall)这一调查工具,并辅以访谈,分析6名国际会议职业受训译员和非职业译员的笔记手稿。研究表明:译员遇到的笔记困难主要是:(1)记忆源语信息不足;(2)内容回忆不全;(3)笔记格式不当;(4)依赖笔记心理过强等几大类型。造成上述困难的原因主要是:(1)源语语言结构复杂;(2)命题数量多;(3)命题之间逻辑关联不强;(4)译员不熟悉甚至厌烦源语题材;(5)心理和生理不适应源语信息传递速度。本研究对口译教学的启发:口译笔记训练阶段要针对上述困难和原因采取有效教学措施。 展开更多

本文以加涅的学习与记忆信息加工理论为基础,通过实证法考察口译笔记认知训练对非英语专业学生交传口译质量的影响。研究对60名非英语专业学生被试进行了为期5周的口译笔记认知训练,之后的t检验和相关分析的结果表明:(1)学生口译笔记的... 本文以加涅的学习与记忆信息加工理论为基础,通过实证法考察口译笔记认知训练对非英语专业学生交传口译质量的影响。研究对60名非英语专业学生被试进行了为期5周的口译笔记认知训练,之后的t检验和相关分析的结果表明:(1)学生口译笔记的符号与缩略语使用能力显著提高;(2)口译笔记认知训练对口译准确性产生了抑制作用,但对流畅性产生了促进作用;(3)学生在训练初期对口译笔记有强烈依赖性。基于以上结果,笔者提出了针对口译笔记教学的四条建议。 展开更多
