Thermodynamic Correlation Between Surface Carboxyl Configuration and Wettability

In this study,polyacrylic acid(PAA)films were employed as a model system,and a series of PAA films with tunable water wettability was systematically prepared by varying molecular weight and curing temperature.Using attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIR),the molecular configurations of surface carboxyl groups(COOH),free carboxyl(COOH_(f))and hydrogen-bonded carboxyl(COOH_(HB),were directly correlated with the polar component of surface energy(γ^(s,p)).By decomposing theγ^(s,p)values of the PAA thin films as a sum of the contributions of COOH_(f)and COOH_(H B),the intrinsic polar component of surface energy of COOH_(H B)(γ_(H B)^(s,p*))was quantified for the first time as 8.34 mN/m,significantly lower than that of COOH_(f)(γ_(f)^(s,p*)=34 mN/m).This result highlights that hydrogen bonding markedly reduces theγ^(s,p),providing a rational explanation for the relatively large water contact angle observed on PAA thin films.Furthermore,it establishes a thermodynamic basis for estimating the fraction of surface COOH_(H B)groups(f H B)from wettability measurements.Further extension of the model to carboxyl-terminated self-assembled monolayers(COOH-SAMs)revealed that surface COOH density(ΣCOOH)critically regulates wetting behavior:whenΣCOOH ranges from 4.30 to 5.25 nm^(-2),COOH groups predominantly exist in a free state and facilitate effective hydration layers,thereby promoting superhydrophilicity.Overall,this study not only establishes a unified thermodynamic framework linking surface COOH configurations to macroscopic wettability,but also validates its universality by extending it to COOH-SAMs systems,thereby providing a unified theoretical framework for the controllable design of hydrophilicity in various COOH-functionalized surfaces. 展开更多

Physical Origin of Conformational Entropy in Polymers

Conformational entropy,one of the central concepts of polymer physics,is the key to revealing physical characteristics of polymers.Despite an increased repertoire of conformational-entropy effects in the structural formation,transition,and properties of polymer systems,the physical origin of conformational entropy remains less understood compared to interaction energy and other types of entropy.This review seeks to provide a conceptual framework unveiling several principles and rules of conformational entropy in governing the structures and properties of polymers,from the perspective of fundamental physics and statistical mechanics.First,we focus on the fundamentals of entropy in thermodynamics,leading to the theoretical basis for the elucidation of conformational entropy.Second,we delineate the physical nature of statistics and dissipation of conformational entropy and its essential dependence on the environmental heat bath.Next,we explore the principles of conformational entropy in driving the ordering transitions of various systems of polymers and their nanocomposites,elucidating the emergent and collective behaviors as well as the interplay between energetic interactions and entropy.Moreover,we demonstrate how the concept of conformational entropy is generalized to the biological systems and other soft matters.Finally,we discuss future directions to signify this framework originated from polymers. 展开更多

Conformational bifurcation drives dual transport regimes in molecular junctions:Unsupervised machine learning insights

Control over charge transport in molecular–scale devices requires a deep understanding of how minute structural changes influence electronic properties.Here,we demonstrate dual transport regimes in tunnel junctions of n-alk-1-yne(CnA)molecules with gold electrodes driven by conformational bifurcation—the emergence of two nearly isoenergetic(planar and skewed)molecular conformers(dihedral anglesα=180°andα≈65°at the alkyne terminus in the gas phase).Although the energy differences are small,these subtle conformational differences manifest as distinct transport behaviors,uncovered through unsupervised machine learning,which identified two junction groups:“short”and“long”chains,with distinct attenuation factors(β_(short)≈1.0 vs.β_(long)≈0.74)and contact conductances(G_(c,short)≈200μS vs.G_(c,long)≈8μS).This dramatic impact of the dihedral angle exceeds the impact of the inter-ring twist angle in biphenyl-based junctions and rivals changes induced by switching from gold to platinum electrodes or from monothiol to dithiol anchors in oligoacene and oligophenylene junctions.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)confirmed this bifurcation,linking the“short”and“long”groups to planar and skewed conformers,with dihedrals remarkably agreeing with the gas-phase values.This work establishes conformational bifurcation as a promising route for designing programmable nanotransport properties through anchor-group control. 展开更多

Effects of joint geometric configurations on cyclic shear behavior of intermittent joints under constant normal stiffness conditions

Intermittent joints are common in rock masses and are subjected to cyclic shear loads from seismic events,environmental factors,and human activities.In this study,we conducted cyclic shear tests to investigate the effect of joint geometry(persistence,overlap,and spacing)on the cyclic shear behavior of intermittent joints under constant normal stiffness conditions.Our results revealed step‐path failure surfaces comprising tensile and shear failure surfaces.Shear failure surface controlled the degradation of shear properties,with shear strength decreasing progressively with cycles,ranging from 74.07%to 97.94%.Intermittent joints exhibited significant compressibility,with dilation predominant in early cycles and compression in later ones.Shear strength and dilation were more sensitive to joint persistence and spacing than overlap.Friction coefficients showed nonmonotonic variations with cycle number.High persistence,moderate overlap,and small spacing were identified as the most destabilizing combination.These findings offer valuable insights for stability assessment and deformation characterization in deep rock engineering. 展开更多

The precise tuning of magnetic nanoparticle size and magnetic domains,thereby shaping magnetic properties.However,the dynamic evolution mechanisms of magnetic domain configurations in relation to electromagnetic(EM)attenuation behavior remain poorly understood.To address this gap,a thermodynamically controlled periodic coordination strategy is proposed to achieve precise modulation of magnetic nanoparticle spacing.This approach unveils the evolution of magnetic domain configurations,progressing from individual to coupled and ultimately to crosslinked domain configurations.A unique magnetic coupling phenomenon surpasses the Snoek limit in low-frequency range,which is observed through micromagnetic simulation.The crosslinked magnetic configuration achieves effective low-frequency EM wave absorption at 3.68 GHz,encompassing nearly the entire C-band.This exceptional magnetic interaction significantly enhances radar camouflage and thermal insulation properties.Additionally,a robust gradient metamaterial design extends coverage across the full band(2–40 GHz),effectively mitigating the impact of EM pollution on human health and environment.This comprehensive study elucidates the evolution mechanisms of magnetic domain configurations,addresses gaps in dynamic magnetic modulation,and provides novel insights for the development of high-performance,low-frequency EM wave absorption materials. 展开更多

An extensive computational study on the conformations of gaseous dipeptide glycine- arginine, GlyArg, has been performed. A large number of trail structures were generated by systematically sampling the potential energy surface (PES) of OlyArg. The trial structures were successively optimized with the methods of PM3, HF/3-21G*, BHandHLYP/6-31G* and BHandHLYP/6-311++G** in order to reliably find the low energy conformations. The eonformational energies were finally determined with the methods of BHandHLYP, cam- B3LYP, B97D, and MP2 using the basis set of 6-311++G(3df,3pd). The results establish firmly that gaseous GlyArg exists primarily in its canonical form, in sharp contrast with ArgGly that adopts the zwitterionic form. Important data such as the rotational constants, dipole moments, vertical ionization energies, temperature distributions and IR spectra of the low energy conformers are represented for the understanding of the future experiments. Moreover, considering the global minima of all amino acids and many dipeptides, combined with the hydrophobicities of amino acids, a model predicting whether the global minimum configuration of a dipeptide is canonical or zwitterionic is developed. 展开更多

针对基于Transformer网络的语音识别模型对电力调度噪声场景下音频特征提取能力不足、专业术语识别准确率较低以及鲁棒性较差等问题,提出一种结合深度残差收缩网络(DRSN)和Conformer网络的电力调度场景语音识别方法。首先,在DRSN中设计... 针对基于Transformer网络的语音识别模型对电力调度噪声场景下音频特征提取能力不足、专业术语识别准确率较低以及鲁棒性较差等问题,提出一种结合深度残差收缩网络(DRSN)和Conformer网络的电力调度场景语音识别方法。首先,在DRSN中设计通道阈值共享型和独立型两类收缩模块以学习音频信号的噪声阈值,减少噪声带来的干扰;然后,采用Conformer块将DRSN块输出的音频信号编码为音频特征,并使用交叉注意力融合文本编码器编码之后的文本特征,得到音频与文本的相关性表示;最后,结合CTC损失与Attention损失进行训练和解码。在公开数据集Aishell-1、Thchs30以及内蒙古自治区某电网公司内部电力调度数据集上的实验结果表明:相较于Transformer网络模型,所提方法最终字错误率降低了8.5%,专业术语识别字错误率降低了5.2%,验证了该方法在解决电力调度语音识别任务中的有效性和先进性。 展开更多

In the context of the“dual carbon”goals,to address issues such as high energy consumption,high costs,and low power quality in the rapid development of electrified railways,this study focused on the China Railways High-Speed 5 Electric Multiple Unit and proposed a mathematical model and capacity optimization method for an onboard energy storage system using lithium batteries and supercapacitors as storage media.Firstly,considering the electrical characteristics,weight,and volume of the storage media,a mathematical model of the energy storage system was established.Secondly,to tackle problems related to energy consumption and power quality,an energy management strategy was proposed that comprehensively considers peak shaving and valley filling and power quality by controlling the charge/discharge thresholds of the storage system.Thecapacity optimization adopted a bilevel programming model,with the series/parallel number of storage modules as variables,considering constraints imposed by the Direct Current to Direct Current converter,train load,and space.An improved Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm and linear programming solver were used to solve specific cases.The results show that the proposed onboard energy storage system can effectively achieve energy savings,reduce consumption,and improve power qualitywhile meeting the load and space limitations of the train. 展开更多

Dense cropping increases crop yield but intensifies resource competition,which reduces single plant yield and limits potential yield growth.Optimizing canopy spacing could enhance resource utilization,support crop morphological development and increase yield.Here,a three-year study was performed to verify the feasibility of adjusting row spacing to further enhance yield in densely planted soybeans.Of three row-spacing configurations(40-40,20-40,and 20-60 cm)and two planting densities(normal 180,000 plants ha 1 and high 270,000 plants ha 1).The differences in canopy structure,plant morphological development,photosynthetic capacity and their impact on yield were analyzed.Row spacing configurations have a significant effect on canopy transmittance(CT).The 20-60 cm row spacing configuration increased CT and creates a favorable canopy light environment,in which plant height is reduced,while branching is promoted.This approach reduces plant competition,optimizes the developments of leaf area per plant,specific leaf area,leaf area development rate,leaf area duration and photosynthetic physiological indices(F_(v)/F_(m),ETR,P_(n)).The significant increase of 11.9%-34.2%in canopy apparent photosynthesis(CAP)is attributed to the significant optimization of plant growth and photosynthetic physiology through CT,an important contributing factor to yield increases.The yield in the 20-60 cm treatment is 4.0%higher than in equidistant planting under normal planting density,but 5.9%under high density,primarily driven by CAP and pod number.These findings suggest that suitable row spacing configurations optimize the light environment for plants,promote source-sink transformation in soybeans,and further improve yield.In practice,a 20-60 cm row spacing configuration could be employed for high-density soybean planting to achieve a more substantial yield gain. 展开更多

Recent advances in earth science and exploration have made deepwater channel-levee systems a research focus.We collected and analyzed over 10000 km of two-dimensional multichannel seismic data from the offshore Indus Basin to identify channellevee systems at various hierarchical levels depending on their seismic reflection characteristics.Seismic facies analysis was integrated with well data to map the spatial distribution of channel-levee systems in the offshore Indus Basin across various geological periods,and the factors influencing their development were discussed.These systems within the basin were identified using a developed,refined three-tier classification method.The first-order system consists of multiple spatially stacked complexes,the second-order system continuously developed multistage channel-levee bodies,and the third-order system represents the smallest identifiable sedimentary units on seismic profiles.Our findings demonstrate the evolution of the offshore Indus Basin from a single-stage channel with lateral migration to multistage vertical channel stacking from the Miocene to the Pleistocene.Tectonic activities exert their effect on channel-levee systems through their influence on the relative sea level.They also trigger volcanic or seismic events and affect siliciclastic supply.Warm and humid climate conditions form large river systems,which aid in the transport of terrestrial debris to the basin margin.Most channel-levee systems are assumed to have formed during low sea-level periods.This study offers new insights into the formation and evolution of turbidite sedimentary systems in the offshore Indus Basin and presents a practical classification method for comprehending gravity-flow sedimentary configurations and deepwater hydrocarbon exploration. 展开更多

语音识别旨在通过先进的算法与信号处理技术,赋予机器理解人类语音的能力,使得人与机器之间的交流更加便捷、顺畅。目前,大多数端到端语音识别的研究工作主要围绕Conformer模型进行优化。针对Conformer编码器对语音细粒度局部特征提取... 语音识别旨在通过先进的算法与信号处理技术,赋予机器理解人类语音的能力,使得人与机器之间的交流更加便捷、顺畅。目前,大多数端到端语音识别的研究工作主要围绕Conformer模型进行优化。针对Conformer编码器对语音细粒度局部特征提取能力不足的问题,提出一种融合最大池化(MP)的Conformer中文语音识别模型。首先,将编码器卷积模块中门控线性单元的输出在时间维度上进行MP,以提取多帧语音信号对应一个字符的细粒度局部特征。然后,将池化后的特征与逐通道卷积(DWC)提取的粗粒度局部特征以逐元素相加的方式进行融合,以增加语音局部特征的信息量,从而提高Conformer模型的语音识别准确率。最后,在公开的中文数据集Aishell-1上的实验结果表明:采用贪心搜索方式进行解码,所提模型可以将基线模型的字错误率(CER)从5.58%降低至5.32%;采用注意力重打分方式进行解码,所提模型可以将基线模型的CER从5.06%降低至4.92%。 展开更多

The accurate estimation of lithium battery state of health(SOH)plays an important role in the health management of battery systems.In order to improve the prediction accuracy of SOH,this paper proposes a stochastic configuration network based on a multi-converged black-winged kite search algorithm,called SBKA-CLSCN.Firstly,the indirect health index(HI)of the battery is extracted by combining it with Person correlation coefficients in the battery charging and discharging cycle point data.Secondly,to address the problem that the black-winged kite optimization algorithm(BKA)falls into the local optimum problem and improve the convergence speed,the Sine chaotic black-winged kite search algorithm(SBKA)is designed,which mainly utilizes the Sine mapping and the golden-sine strategy to enhance the algorithm’s global optimality search ability;secondly,the Cauchy distribution and Laplace regularization techniques are used in the SCN model,which is referred to as CLSCN,thereby improving the model’s overall search capability and generalization ability.Finally,the performance of SBKA and SBKA-CLSCN is evaluated using eight benchmark functions and the CALCE battery dataset,respectively,and compared in comparison with the Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)model and the Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU)model,and the experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the SBKA-CLSCN algorithm. 展开更多

The influence of geometric configuration on the friction characteristics during incremental sheet forming of AA5052 was analyzed by integrating surface morphology and its characteristic parameters,along with plastic strain,contact pressure,and area.The interface promotes lubrication and support when wall angles were≤40°,a 0.5 mm-thin sheet was used,and a 10 mm-large tool radius was employed.This mainly results in micro-plowing and plastic extrusion flow,leading to lower friction coefficient.However,when wall angles exceed 40°,significant plastic strain roughening occurs,leading to inadequate lubrication on the newly formed surface.Increased sheet thickness and decreased tool radius elevate contact pressure.These actions trigger micro-cutting and adhesion,potentially leading to localized scuffing and dimple tears,and higher friction coefficient.The friction mechanisms remain unaffected by the part’s plane curve features.As the forming process progresses,abrasive wear intensifies,and surface morphology evolves unfavorably for lubrication and friction reduction. 展开更多

The field-reversed configuration(FRC)plasma thruster driven by rotating magnetic field(RMF),abbreviated as the RMF-FRC thruster,is a new type of electric propulsion technology that is expected to accelerate the deep space exploration.An experimental prototype,including diagnostic devices,was designed and constructed based on the principles of the RMF-FRC thruster,with an RMF frequency of 210 kHz and a maximum peak current of 2 kA.Under the rated operating conditions,the initial plasma density was measured to be 5×10^(17)m^(-3),and increased to 2.2×10^(19)m^(-3)after the action of RMF.The coupling efficiency of RMF was about 53%,and the plasma current reached 1.9 kA.The axial magnetic field changed in reverse by 155 Gauss,successfully reversing the bias magnetic field of 60 Gauss,which verifies the formation of FRC plasma.After optimization research,it was found that when the bias magnetic field is 100 Gauss,the axial magnetic field reverse variation caused by FRC is the highest at 164 Gauss.The experimental results are discussed and strategies are proposed to improve the performance of the prototype. 展开更多

Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles(HAP NPs)were synthesized by a one‐step hydrothermal method.The surface of HAP NPs was grafted-SH and-COOH chelating groups via in situ surface‐modification with iminodiacetic acid(IDA)and 3‐mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane(MPS)to afford dual surface‐capped nano‐amendment HAPIDA/MPS.The structure of HAP‐IDA/MPS was characterized,and its adsorption performance for Hg^(2+),Cu^(2+),Zn^(2+),Ni^(2+),Co^(2+),and Cd^(2+)was evaluated.The total adsorption capacity of 0.10 g HAP‐IDA/MPS nano‐amendment for Hg^(2+),Cu^(2+),Zn^(2+),Ni^(2+),Co^(2+),and Cd^(2+)with an initial mass concentration of 20 mg·L^(-1) reached 13.7 mg·g^(-1),about 4.3 times as much as that of HAP.Notably,HAP‐IDA/MPS nano‐amendment displayed the highest immobilization rate for Hg^(2+),possibly because of its chemical reaction with-SH to form sulfide,possessing the lowest solubility product constant among a variety of metal sulfides. 展开更多

This paper investigates the configuration design associated with boundary-constrained swarm flying.An analytic swarm configuration is identified to ensure the passive safety between each pair of spacecraft in the radial-cross-track plane.For the first time,this work derives the explicit configurable spacecraft amount to clarify the configuration's accommodation capacity while considering the maximum inter-spacecraft separation constraint.For larger-scale design problem that involves hundreds of spacecraft,this paper proposes an optimization framework that integrates a Relative Orbit Element(ROE)affine transformation operation and successional convex optimization.The framework establishes a multi-subcluster swarm structure,allowing decoupling the maintenance issues of each subcluster.Compared with previous design methods,it ensures that the computational cost for constraints verification only scales linearly with the swarm size,while also preserving the configuration optimization capacities.Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed analytic configuration strictly meets the design constraints.It is also shown that the proposed framework reduces the handled constraint amount by two orders compared with direct optimization,while achieving a remarkable swarm safety enhancement based on the existing analytic configuration. 展开更多

With the continuous application of new technologies in reconnaissance and attack, false camouflage plays a more important role in improving the survivability of targets, and the number of decoys plays a crucial role in the camouflaging effect. Based on the concept of cost-effectiveness ratio, according to the newly formulated Johnson criterion and the view of discovery and destruction, this paper proposes to take the identification probability as the probability of being destroyed and uses mathematical formulas to calculate the cost of a single use decoy. On this basis, a cost-effectiveness ratio model is established, with the product of the increase in the survival probability of the target and the cost of the target as the benefit, and the sum of the product of the probability of being destroyed and the cost of the decoy and the cost of a single use as the consumption cost. The model is calculated and analyzed, and the number of decoys that conform to the actual situation is obtained. 展开更多

The conformational and dynamical properties of a long semi-flexible active polymer chain confined in a circular cavity are studied by using Langevin dynamics simulation method.Results show that the steady radius of gyration of the polymer decreases monotonically with increasing the active force.Interestingly,the polymer forms stable compact spiral with directional rotation at the steady state when the active force is large.Both the radius of gyration and the angular velocity of the spiral are nearly independent of the cavity size,but show scaling relations with the active force and the polymer length.It is further found that the formation of the stable compact spiral in most cases is a two-step relaxation process,where the polymer first forms a metastable swelling quasi spiral and then transforms into the stable compacted spiral near the wall of the cavity.The relaxation time is mainly determined by the transformation of the swelling quasi spiral,and shows remarkable dependence on the size of the cavity.Specially,when the circumference of the circular is nearly equivalent to the polymer length,it is difficult for the polymer to form the compacted spiral,leading to a large relaxation time.The underlying mechanism of the formation of the compacted spiral is revealed. 展开更多
