It is therefore important to reduce the slip of induction motor to maintain its stable operation at different frequencies and loads. In this paper a slip compensator, based on fuzzy logic incremental controller has been developed to improve the steady state performance of efficiency-optimized three-phase induction motor drive system. The slip control is accomplished through a fuzzy controller with 9 rules, taking speed error and speed error variation as inputs, to produce the frequency. The proposed controller reduces the slip occurring at low frequencies and light loads to certain value, and also reduces the energy efficiency of the system.展开更多

First, to maintain t-axis secondary component flux constant with consideration of the specially dynamic eddy-effect(DEE) of the SLIM, a instantaneously tracing compensation of m-axis current component was analyzed. Second,adaptive current compensation based on Taylor-discretization algorithm was proposed. Third, an effective kind of nonlinear disturbance observer(NDOB) was employed to estimate and compensate the undesired load vibrations, then the robustness of the control system could be guaranteed. Experimental verification of the feasibility of the proposed method for an SLIM control system was performed, and it showed that the proposed adaptive compensation scheme with NDOB could significantly promote speed dynamical response and minimize speed ripple under the conditions of external load coupled vibrations and unavoidable feedback control variables measured errors, i.e., current and speed.展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched Capacitors (TSC) as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting o...The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched Capacitors (TSC) as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting on an emulated weak transmission line. Thyristor switched capacitor bank was chosen because it is a well known topology, considering the very nature of the direct starting induction motors, which represents a highly inductive load, the use of switched reactors becomes unnecessary. Such fact minimizes the introduction of harmonics components, and also reduces the cost of the implementation. The binary disposition of the banks allows a variable Var compensation with sixteen steps, in this case. The solution makes use of low cost devices combined with sliding window voltage and current measurement algorithm and a PI control with dead band control for achieve the shown experimental results, where the system is able to manage a typically 20% voltage drop, reducing it to less than 4%. The schematic of the developed circuit, the control technique and a quite simple method to calculate the binary weight capacitors banks are also presented.展开更多
A comparison of the effectiveness of installing reactive power compensators,such as shunt capacitors,static var compensators(SVCs),and static synchronous compensators(STATCOMs),was presented in large-scale power netwo...A comparison of the effectiveness of installing reactive power compensators,such as shunt capacitors,static var compensators(SVCs),and static synchronous compensators(STATCOMs),was presented in large-scale power networks.A suitable bus was first identified using modal analysis method.The single shunt capacitor,single SVC,and single STATCOM were installed separately on the most critical bus.The effects of the installation of different devices on power loss reduction,voltage profile improvement,and voltage stability margin enhancement were examined and compared for 57-and 118-bus transmission systems.The comparative study results show that SVC,and STATCOM are expensive compared to shunt capacitor,yet the effect of installing STATCOM is better than SVC and the effect of installing SVC is better than that of shunt capacitor in achieving power loss reduction,voltage profile improvement and voltage stability margin enhancement.展开更多

By improving the power factor, the customer can reduce its power demand and potentially increase efficiency of their equipment. A PIC microcontroller is used to switch capacitor banks to compensate for the reactive power. In order to determine the size of the capacitor bank needed, the microcontroller calculates the phase difference between the voltage and the current. The results obtained based on the lagging power factor for three test loads show an improvement in the power factor from 0.52 to 0.96 under different test load conditions.展开更多

In this paper, a saturated feedback integrator is used, and the dead-time effect is compen- sated by current positive feedback. Experiments were carried out on the hardware platform of MCK2407, with chip TMS320LF2407 from TI Company. With this method, the motors are close to each other so that the front motor's exit-end magnetic...A new method to compensate the end effect of a linear induction motor (LIM) in low-speed maglev vehicles is proposed. With this method, the motors are close to each other so that the front motor's exit-end magnetic field extends into the next motor's entry zone. As a result, the motor's magnetic field traveling wave become continuous and the end effect of short primary LIMs is greatly weakened. In the analysis of the air-gap magnetic field distribution, the LIM is assumedly divided into two identical motors vcith the distances of 20, 40, 60, and gO ram. The results show that the air-gap magnetic field is still continuous within these distances due to LIM's end effect. As the distance between two motors increases, the distortion of the air-gap magnetic field becomes more severe. Then, we investigate the relationship between the secondary speed and the thrust in three cases, i.e., a single LIM, two motors divided with 72 mm with pole pitch corrected, and two motors divided with 60 mm without the pole pitch being corrected. We find that the thrust has a small decrease when the speed increases, which means that the magnetic field is already continuous and its amplitude is approximately a constant. Furthermore, the thrust loss of case 3 is more than that of case 2, which indicates that the pole pitch correction is effective.展开更多

Wind energy based on induction generator situates in a foreground position in the total energy produced using renewable sources. In the last few decades, a new self- excitation generator was based on multi-stator induction strongly emerges. This article presents a systematic modelling, a detailed analysis and the performance analysis of self-excitation dual stator winding induction generator (SE-DSWIG). The modelling of the SE-DSWIG was done with taking in account the common mutual leakage inductance between stators and the magnetizing inductance, which played a principal role in the stabilization of the output voltage in the steady state. The generator feeds the end user emulated by an inductive-resistive load. In order to simulate the weather conditions’ variation, a step change of the prime mover speed was applied on the SE-DSWIG. A passive series and shunt compensator was used to mitigate the voltage sag and swell appeared in the power system due to wind variation and the lack of reactive power consumed by the inductive load.展开更多
