PPⅨ is a metalloprosthetic group of numerous proteins involved in diverse metabolic and respiratory processes across all domains of life, and is thus considered essential for respiring organisms. Determining the biotic and abiotic factors that influence marine microbial growth and community structure is critical for understanding global biogeochemical cycles. Here,we present vertical profiles of intracellular PPⅨ and four derivative products(Chlorophylla/b and Pheophytin-a/b) from two coastal sediment cores, alongside ancillary geochemical and 16S rRNA microbial community data. Our findings indicated that PPⅨ is present in the natural sediment environment and displays a decreasing trend with depth, revealing a significant positive correlation with both organic matter and microbial abundance. Cooccurrence networks revealed that the environmental distribution of PPⅨ was positively correlated with the microbial porphyrin producer(high genetic completeness), but negatively correlated with auxotrophs(absence or low genetic completeness). It emphasized the critical role of PPⅨ as a biological molecule involved in key physiological processes. These results suggest that PPⅨ is a prominent component of the shared extracellular metabolite pool, especially in anoxic marine sediments where it exists at physiologically relevant concentrations for microbial metabolism. This study highlighted the significance of PPⅨ in microbial ecology and its potential impact on biogeochemical cycles in marine sedimentary environments.展开更多

To test the relationships between submerged macrophyte presence and the ratio of Secchi disk depth(SDD) to water depth, i.e. SDD/depth, nutrients and wind, we conducted an extensive sampling campaign in a macrophyte-dominated area of the eastern region( n = 36) in 2016 in Lake Taihu, China, and combined the data gathered with results from extensive physico-chemical monitoring data from the entire lake. We confirmed that SDD/Depth is the primary factor controlling the community composition of macrophytes and showed that plant abundance increased with increasing SDD/Depth ratio( p < 0.01), but that only SDD/Depth > 0.4 ensured growth of submerged macrophytes. Total phosphorus and total nitrogen also influenced the growth and community composition of macrophytes( p < 0.01), while Chl a was an indirectly affecting factor by reducing underwater light penetration. Wave height significantly influenced plant abundance( p < 0.01), whereas it had little effect on the biomass( p > 0.05). The key to restore the macrophyte beds in the lake is to reduce the nutrient loading. A decrease of the water level may contribute as well in the shallow bays but will not bring plants back in the main part of the lake. As the tolerance of shade and nutrients varied among the species studied, this should be taken into account in the restoration of lakes by addition of plants.展开更多

This study examined the hypothesis that soil microbial community structure would vary with seasonal shifts in the Wuyi Mountains in Southeast China, and that two representative tree species (Castanopisi carlesii and Cunninghamia lanceolata) may have different soil microbial community composition. Phospholipids fatty acid analysis (PLFA) of seasonal shifts and was used to assess the effect vegetation types on soil microbial community structure. A total of 22 different PLFAs were identified from all the soil samples. The bacterial PLFAs accounted for 62.37% of the total PLFAs, followed by fungi (28.94%), and the minimum was actinomycetes (6.41%). Overall, the level of PLFAs in C. carlesii soil was greater than those in C. lanceolata soil, and significant differences were observed in some seasons. The amounts of total, bacteria, actinomycic and fungal PLFAs significantly changed with the seasons and followed a sequence order (summer 〉 autumn 〉 spring 〉 winter). The bacteria/fungi PLFAs and G (+)/G (-) PLFAs of two vegetation types also changed with the seasons and the ratios in summer and autumn were higher than those in spring and winter. The correlation analysis of microbial PLFAs and soil physicochemical properties showed that the total, bacteria, fungal, actinomycic, G (+) and G (-) PLFAs were significantly positive correlation with TOC, TN, TP, TK and moisture content. We concluded that the seasonal shifts and vegetation types affect soil microbial community composition by changing the soil physicochemical properties.展开更多

We recognized four different vertical distribution patterns of pigments: chlorophyll a (Chl a)-like type, divinyl chlorophyll a (DV Chl a) type, even distribution type, and surface type. The average value of ratios of accessory photo-protective pigments (APP) to accessory photo-synthetic pigments was 0.89±0.63 in the upper 50 m and 0.16±0.06 below 50 m depth. With increasing depth, APP decreased and photo-synthetically active radiation was attenuated. There was an obvious succession in the phytoplankton community from inshore to the open sea. Diatoms were dominant in the inshore region, while pelagophytes, Prochlorococcus, cyanobacteria and prymnesiophytes were dominant in the open sea. The vertical distribution of phytoplankton also differed greatly from inshore to the open sea. In the coastal and shelf region, diatoms were important components in the whole water column. Cyanobacteria also had a high abundance at the Subsurface Chlorophyll a Maxima (SCM) in the shelf region. In the slope and open sea, Prochlorococcus and cyanobacteria were important groups above the SCM, while pelagophytes dominated below the SCM.展开更多

文摘Cover cropping is a diversifying agricultural practice that can improve soil structure and function by altering the underground litter diversity and soil microbial communities. Here,we tested how a wheat cover crop alters the decomposition of cucumber root litter.A three-year greenhouse litterbag decomposition experiment showed that a wheat cover crop accelerates the decomposition of cucumber root litter.A microcosm litterbag experiment further showed that wheat litter and the soil microbial community could improve cucumber root litter decomposition. Moreover, the wheat cover crop altered the abundances and diversities of soil bacterial and fungal communities, and enriched several putative keystone operational taxonomic units(OTUs),such as Bacillus sp.OTU1837 and Mortierella sp.OTU1236,that were positively related to the mass loss of cucumber root litter. The representative bacterial and fungal strains B186 and M3 were isolated and cultured. In vitro decomposition tests demonstrated that both B186 and M3 had cucumber root litter decomposition activity and a stronger effect was found when they were co-incubated.Overall,a wheat cover crop accelerated cucumber root litter decomposition by altering the soil microbial communities, particularly by stimulating certain putative keystone taxa, which provides a theoretical basis for using cover crops to promote sustainable agricultural development.

文摘Protoporphyrin Ⅸ(PPⅨ), a basic porphyrin system found in nature, all “porphyrin-type”tetrapyrroles with a biological function are biosynthetically derived thereof. This study highlighted the significance of PPⅨ in microbial ecology and its potential impact on biogeochemical cycles in marine sedimentary environments.

文摘The Yellow River Delta(YRD)of China is one of the most active land-sea interaction deltas in the world. However, due to human activities and climate change,it has undergone significant changes, including the degradation of natural wetlands and saltwater intrusion. As an integral part of soil microorganisms, fungi play a crucial role in maintaining and stabilizing the function of wetland ecosystems. To better understand the composition and diversity changes of fungal communities along a salinity gradient in the YRD of China and their relationship with environmental factors, fungal diversity, abundance, and composition in the sediments of four typical vegetation communities spanning from the riverbank to the seaside were investigated. The results showed that the electrical conductivity(EC)increased significantly from the riverbank to the coastal area(P<0.05),but the levels of total nitrogen(TN),total carbon(TC),total sulfur(TS),available phosphorous(AP),and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)-N)increased in Phragmites australis community and then experienced a significant decrease in Tamarix chinensis community and Suaeda salsa community(P<0.05).The alpha diversity(Shannon and Simpson indices)of the soil fungal community exhibited a negative correlation with EC.There was a significant alteration in the structure of the fungal community, primarily influenced by EC and NO_(3)^(-)-N.Ascomycota was found to be the most abundant phylum, and its relative abundance is positively correlated with pH and TS.The relative abundance of Sordariomycetes, the second-largest class of Ascomycota, reached 38.95%.Salinity was identified as the most important factor driving changes in soil fungal community composition. In summary, the fungal community changed significantly along the salinity gradient, and different environmental factors impacted various tiers of fungal populations differently. The findings of this study lay the groundwork for comprehending soil fungal communities and their primary influencing factors in newly formed wetlands.

文摘Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR)have been widely used for the promotion of plant performance.Predatory protists can influence the taxonomic and functional composition of rhizosphere bacteria. However, research on the impact of the interaction between protist and PGPR on plant performance remains at a very early stage. Here,we examined the impacts of individual inoculation of protist(Colpoda inflata,Dimastigella trypaniformis,or Vermamoeba vermiformis)or the PGPR strain Bacillus velezensis SQR9 as well as the co-inoculation of the protist C.inflata and B.velezensis SQR9 on the growth of tomato plants. We found that all individual protists and Bacillus could promote plant growth compared to the control with no microbe inoculation, with the co-inoculation of C.inflata and B.velezensis SQR9 achieving the greatest performance, including plant height, fresh weight, and dry weight.Different protists harbored distinct rhizosphere bacterial communities, with the co-inoculation of protist and Bacillus resulting in the lowest bacterial diversity and driving significant changes in community structure and composition, particularly by increasing the relative abundance of Proteobacteria.Random forest model highlighted Cellvibrio as the most important bacterial predictor of plant growth, which was enriched after protist inoculation, especially after the mixed inoculation of protist and Bacillus. We further found that bacterial functional genes of nitrogen metabolism were the key determinants of plant growth. These results indicate that the interaction between protists and Bacillus can support plant growth by reshaping rhizosphere bacterial community composition and function.Understanding the interaction mechanisms between protist and PGPR is crucial for their effective utilization in sustainable agriculture.
文摘Community detection is one of the most fundamental applications in understanding the structure of complicated networks.Furthermore,it is an important approach to identifying closely linked clusters of nodes that may represent underlying patterns and relationships.Networking structures are highly sensitive in social networks, requiring advanced techniques to accurately identify the structure of these communities. Most conventional algorithms for detecting communities perform inadequately with complicated networks. In addition, they miss out on accurately identifying clusters.Since single-objective optimization cannot always generate accurate and comprehensive results,as multi-objective optimization can. Therefore,we utilized two objective functions that enable strong connections between communities and weak connections between them.In this study,we utilized the intra function, which has proven effective in state-of-the-art research studies. We proposed a new inter-function that has demonstrated its effectiveness by making the objective of detecting external connections between communities is to make them more distinct and sparse.Furthermore,we proposed a Multi-Objective community strength enhancement algorithm(MOCSE).The proposed algorithm is based on the framework of the Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm with Decomposition(MOEA/D),integrated with a new heuristic mutation strategy, community strength enhancement(CSE).The results demonstrate that the model is effective in accurately identifying community structures while also being computationally efficient. The performance measures used to evaluate the MOEA/D algorithm in our work are normalized mutual information(NMI)and modularity(Q).It was tested using five state-of-the-art algorithms on social networks, comprising real datasets(Zachary,Dolphin,Football,Krebs,SFI,Jazz, and Netscience),as well as twenty synthetic datasets. These results provide the robustness and practical value of the proposed algorithm in multi-objective community identification.

文摘Microorganisms can colonize the surface of microplastics(MPs)to form a distinctive microbiome, known as a“plastisphere”which is regarded as an anthropogenic niche for microbial growth. However, bacterial community assembly in virgin and aging MP plastispheres across different habitats is poorly understood. This study aims to assess the variations in bacterial community assembly across different niches and habitats with an in situ ex-periment,in which constructed forest wetland(FW),natural lake wetland(LW),and lotus pond wetland(LP)were habitats, and plastispheres of virgin and aging low-density polyethylene(LDPE)MPs,as well as surround-ing wetland soils were niches.Significant niche-related differences in bacterial communities were observed, with lower diversity and enrichment of potential plastic-degrading bacteria in the plastisphere than in the soil bacterial communities.Furthermore,habitat-related differences exerted a more pronounced influence on the beta-diversity patterns of the bacterial communities. The linear regression analyses indicated that the local species pool con-tributed more to bacterial community assembly in the LW wetland, whereas the relative abundance of species was the primary factor in the LP wetland. The null model analysis indicated that plastisphere bacterial communi-ties were predominantly driven by the stochastic process, with a more deterministic assembly observed in the LP wetland and soil bacterial communities.Additionally, the primary ecological process shaping plastisphere com-munities shifted from drift in the virgin LDPE to homogenising dispersal in the aging LDPE.This study provides new insights into the fate and ecological impacts of MPs in wetlands, thereby facilitating the effective regulations of plastic pollution.

文摘In this work, ofloxacin(OFL),a kind of frequently detected antibiotic in groundwater, was selected to explore its impact(at ng/L-μg/L-level)on denitrification performance in an autotrophic denitrification system driven by pyrite/sulfur(FeS2/S0).Results showed that OFL restrained nitrate removal efficiency, and the inhibition degree was positively related to the concentration of OFL.After being exposed to increased OFL(200 ng/L-100μg/L)for 69 days, higher inhibition of electron transport activity(ETSA),enzyme activities of nitrate reductase(NAR),and nitrite reductase(NIR)were acquired.Meanwhile, the extracellular protein(PN)content of sludge samples was remarkably stimulated by OFL to resist the augmented toxicity.OFL contributed to increased microbial diversity and sulfur/sulfide oxidation functional genes in ng/L-level bioreactors, whereas led to a decline inμg/L level experiments. With OFL at concentrations of 200 ng/L and 100μg/L,the whole expression of 10 key denitrification functional genes was depressed, and the higher the OFL concentration, the lower the expression level. However,no significant proliferation of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)either in 200 ng/L-OFL or 100μg/L-OFL groups was observed.Two-factor correlation analysis results indicated that Thiobacillus,Anaerolineae,Anaerolineales, and Nitrospirae might be the main hosts of existing ARGs in this system.

文摘Light climate is of key importance for the growth, community composition of submerged macrophytes in lakes and, they, in turn, are affected by lake depth and the degree of eutrophication. As the tolerance of shade and nutrients varied among the species studied, this should be taken into account in the restoration of lakes by addition of plants.

文摘Seasonal shifts play an important role in soil microbial community composition. We concluded that the seasonal shifts and vegetation types affect soil microbial community composition by changing the soil physicochemical properties.

文摘Phytoplankton pigment patterns and community composition were investigated in the northern South China Sea using high-performance liquid chromatography and the CHEMTAX software from February 11 to 23, 2009. In the slope and open sea, Prochlorococcus and cyanobacteria were important groups above the SCM, while pelagophytes dominated below the SCM.

文摘Soil nematode communities can provide valuable information about the structure and functions of soil food webs, and are sensitive to agricultural practices, including short-term straw incorporation. However, currently, such effects under longterm straw incorporation conditions at different fertility levels are largely unknown. Thus,we conducted a 13-year ongoing experiment to evaluate the effects of long-term straw incorporation on the structure and functions of the soil food web in low and high fertility soils through analyzing its effects on nematode communities, food web indices and metabolic footprints.Four treatments were included:straw removal(–S)under non-fertilized(–NPK)or fertilized(+NPK)conditions;and straw incorporation(+S)under–NPK or+NPK conditions.Soil samples from a 0–20 cm depth layer were collected when wheat and rice were harvested.Compared with straw removal, straw incorporation increased the abundances of total nematodes,bacterivores,plant-parasites and omnivores-predators,as well the relative abundances of omnivores-predators with increases of 73.06,89.29,95.31,238.98,and 114.61%in–NPK soils and 16.23,2.23,19.01,141.38,and 90.23%in+NPK soils, respectively.Regardless of sampling times and fertilization effects, straw incorporation increased the diversity and community stability of nematodes,as indicated by the Shannon-Weaver diversity index and maturity index.Enrichment and structure index did not show significant responses to straw incorporation, but a slight increase was observed in the structure index. The analysis of nematode metabolic footprints showed that straw incorporation increased the plant-parasite footprint and structure footprint by 97.27 and 305.39%in–NPK soils and by 11.29 and 149.56%in+NPK soils, but did not significantly influence enrichment, bacterivore and fungivore footprints. In conclusion,long-term straw incorporation, particularly under a low fertility level, favored the soil nematodes and regulated the soil food web mainly via a top-down effect.
