The process of decreasing the sampling frequency of a sampled signal is called decimation. In the usage of decimating filters, only a portion of the out-of-pass band frequencies turns into the pass band, in systems wherein different parts operate at different sample rates. A filter design, tuned to the aliasing frequencies all of which can otherwise steal into the pass band, not only provides multiple stop bands but also exhibits computational efficiency and performance superiority over the single stop band design. These filters are referred to as multiband designs in the family of FIR filters. The other two special versions of FIR filter designs are Halfband and Comb filter designs, both of which are particularly useful for reducing the computational requirements in multirate designs. The proposed method of using Comb FIR decimation procedure is not only efficient but also opens up a new vista of simplicity and elegancy to compute Multiplications per Second (MPS) and Additions per Second (APS) for the desired filter over and above the half band designs.展开更多

It is observed that nucleotides in the protein coding regions or exons of a DNA sequence show period-3 property. Hence identification of the period-3 regions helps in predicting the gene locations within the billions long DNA sequence of eukaryotic cells. The period-3 property exhibited in exons of eukaryotic gene sequences enables signal processing based time-domain and frequency domain methods to predict these regions efficiently. Several approaches based on signal processing tools have, therefore, been applied to this problem, to predict these regions effectively. This paper describes novel and efficient comb filter-based techniques for the prediction of protein coding region based on the period-3 behavior of codon sequences. The proposed method is then validated on Burset/Guigo1996, HMR195 and KEGG standard datasets using various prediction measures. It is shown that cascaded differentiator comb (CDC) filter can be used for prediction of protein coding region with better prediction efficiency, and involves less computational complexity compared with the other signal processing techniques based on period-3 property.展开更多

We simulate theoretically its output spectra and experimentally realize a flat-top output with a high extinction ratio. Compared to filters consisting of the conventional Panda polarization maintaining fibre, filters based on a high birefringence photonic crystal fibre loop mirror have better temperature stability. This kind of filter can be expected to be used widely in Wavelength-division-multiplexing(WDM) systems in the future.展开更多

From an all-fiber laser with a FMF-based comb filter, the generation of switchable single-, dual-, triple-, and quadruple-wavelength continuous light has been achieved. Moreover, wavelength switchable mode-locked pulses have been obtained with the increased pump power. In the experiment, the output wavelength of the mode-locked fiber laser was changed from 1567.72 nm to 1571.04 nm, while the signal-to-noise(SNR) ratio was maintained above 61 d B. The switchable multiwavelength continuous wave(CW) and mode-locked all-fiber lasers have potentially important applications for fiber sensing, wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM) and signal processing.展开更多
