Phase field modeling of the aspect ratio dependent functional properties of NiTi shape memory alloys with different grain sizes 被引量:1

It is well known that coarse-grained super-elastic NiTi shape memory alloys(SMAs)exhibit localized rather than homogeneous martensite transformation(MT),which,however,can be strongly influenced by either internal size(grain size,GS)or the external size(geometric size).The coupled effect of GS and geometric size on the functional properties has not been clearly understood yet.In this work,the super-elasticity,one-way,and stress-assisted two-way shape memory effects of the polycrystalline NiTi SMAs with different aspect ratios(length/width for the gauge section)and different GSs are investigated based on the phase field method.The coupled effect of the aspect ratio and GS on the functional properties is adequately revealed.The simulated results indicate that when the aspect ratio is lower than about 4:1,the stress biaxiality and stress heterogeneity in the gauge section of the sample become more and more obvious with decreasing the aspect ratio,which can significantly influence the microstructure evolution in the process involving external stress.Therefore,the corresponding functional property is strongly dependent on the aspect ratio.With decreasing the GS and the aspect ratio(to be lower than 4:1),both the aspect ratio and GS can affect the MT or martensite reorientation in each grain and the interaction among grains.Thus,due to the strong internal constraint(i.e.,the constraint of grain boundary)and the external constraint(i.e.,the constraint of geometric boundary),the capabilities of the functional properties of NiTi SMAs are gradually weakened and highly dependent on these two factors. 展开更多

Polysynthetic twinned(PST)TiAl single crystal specifically refers to a fully lamellar TiAl single crystal with parallel phase interfaces and twin interfaces grown by directional solidification.In this paper,PST single crystals with different phase ratios are obtained by annealing at specific temperatures and holding times.The results show that the diffusion rates of Ti and Al elements at various temperatures directly trigger and propel the surface recrystallization and variation in the internal phase ratio.When the temperature is lower than 1448 K,the diffusion rate of Ti is obviously higher than that of Al,which causes one denseα_(2)recrystallized layer to form on the surface of TiAl single crystals.Meanwhile,as more Ti elements migrate to the surface,theα_(2)phase ratio inside the TiAl single crystal thereby decreases.When the temperature exceeds 1448 K,the diffusion rate of Al gradually reverses to exceed that of Ti,which forms the surface sandwiched recrystallization dominated byγphase and simultaneously increasesα_(2)phase ratio inside the TiAl single crystal.The variation in the two-phase ratio directly induces a significant change in the lamellae thickness,which exhibits different tensile behaviors of PST-TiAl single crystal.When theα_(2)phase content is less than 20%,widerγlamellae make it easier for dislocations to be activated within its lamellae and continuously move across theγ/α_(2)interfaces,thereby obtaining better tensile plasticity.As theα_(2)phase content exceeds 30%,finerγlamellae inhibit the dislocation initiation,resulting in the fracture occurrence of TiAl single crystal before yielding.No matter how the phase ratio changes,the crack preferentially initiates withinα_(2)lamellae.However,the crack propagation follows different paths based on variousγlamella thicknesses.The fracture mode of PST-TiAl single crystal also changes from shear fracture along slip bands within theγlamella to brittle fracture along the{1¯100}planes withinα_(2)lamella. 展开更多

The concentric internally heat-integrated distillation column(HIDi C) has advantages of low energy consumption and high thermodynamic efficiency. However, its drawbacks of limited heat transfer area,complex internal structure, and large number of control parameters hinder its widespread industrial applications. To solve these challenges, in this work a novel sleeve-like concentric heat-integrated separation column, namely temperature-controlled phase change column(TCPC), was developed to separate liquid mixtures in a more effective and energy-saving way with reflux section being moved and trays being replaced with spiral corrugation blades. The comprehensive performances of TCPC in ethanol-water system was firstly evaluated by experiments. The results showed that TCPC performs well in ethanol-water separation due to the internal spiral corrugation significantly reducing the vapor-liquid contact in separation section. Meanwhile, compared to the concentric HIDi C, TCPC has a higher total heat transfer coefficient due to the larger heat transfer area. Computational fluid dynamics simulation reveals the internal design of TCPC inducing secondary vortices of the vapor, enhancing condensation heat transfer and separation efficiency. Further, increasing the mass flow rate within a certain range would enhance the comprehensive performance factor and lead to more effective separation. 展开更多

Numerical study on truncated column with tendons following the toughness seismic resistant design

To enhance the deformation capacity of vertical support columns of underground structures and improve their overall seismic performance,a new truncated column connected by unbonded prestressed tendons is proposed,inspired by the concepts of the toughness seismic resistance and rocking design.Although many experimental and numerical studies have focused on underground structures,research on the behavior of truncated columns remains limited.This paper develops threedimensional(3D)finite element(FE)models for various columns,including cast-in-place column(CIPC)and prestressed tendon truncated column(PTTC),to evaluate the effects of three parameters,including axial compression ratio(ACR),initial tendon stress,and the effect of hole diameter on mechanical performance—specifically deformation capacity,strength,residual deformation and gap width.The results indicate that the deformability and self-centering ability of the prestressed tendon truncated column is obviously superior to the cast-in-place column,but its strength was comparatively lower.The axial compression ratio has obvious effects on seismic performance,especially deformation and residual deformation,while initial tendon stress and hole diameter influence performance only in the case of a small axial compression ratio.This study systematically identifies the influence of various factors on seismic performance.Additionally,this study proposes a method to evaluate the self-centering capability of structures and establishes an empirical relationship between maximum recoverable deformation and the axial compression ratio.The developed numerical model can serve as a tool for future studies to predict the seismic responses of overall subway stations that feature truncated columns. 展开更多

The phase constituent evolution of Mg-Zn-Y-Zr alloys with the mole ratio of Y to Zn both in the as-cast and as-annealed states at the Mg-rich corner was investigated by XRD and SEM/EDS analysis and was further explained from the ternary phase diagram calculation. The results show that the formation of the secondary phases in Mg-Zn-Y-Zr alloys firmly depends on the mole ratio of Y to Zn, and X (Mg 12 YZn)-phase, W (Mg 3 Y 2 Zn 3 )-phase and I (Mg 3 YZn 6 )-phase come out in sequence as the ratio of Y to Zn decreases. The mole ratios of Y to Zn with the corresponding phase constituent are suggested quantitatively as follows: the phase constituent is α-Mg + I when the mole ratio of Y to Zn is about 0.164; α-Mg + I +W when the mole ratio of Y to Zn is in the range of 0.164 0.33;α-Mg +W when the mole ratio of Y to Zn is about 0.33; α-Mg +W+X when the mole ratio of Y to Zn is in the range of 0.33 1.32; and α-Mg +X when the mole ratio of Y to Zn is about 1.32. The results also offer a guideline for alloy selection and alloy design in Mg-Zn-Y-Zr system. 展开更多

Formation, solution and phase change of hydration products in MgO-MgCl2-H2O system was studied with thermodynamics method, and resistance to water immersion and phase change of magnesium oxychloride cement with different MgO/MgCl2 molar ratio was experimented. The results show that pH value of immersion solution of cement paste has a remarkable influence on phase stability of hydration products. A higher pH value leads to a lower solubility and a better phase stability of hydration products. When the solution pH value is higher than 10.37, the precipitation of much Mg(OH)2 crystal induces a worse phase stability of hydration products. With the increasing MgO/MgCl2 molar ratio (lower than 6), the more amount of MgO in the hydration products enhances the alkalinity of solution and the phase stability is improved. However, when the MgO/MgCl2 molar ratio is higher than 6 and the excessive MgO exsits in the hydration products, the cement paste may be damaged by the excessive crystallization stress of a great deal of Mg(OH)2 formation. 展开更多

Polyester-based biodegradable polyurethane (PU) with different hard segment ratios was selected to modify the impact toughness of poly(L-lactide) (PLLA). The influence of blending composition and hard segment ratio of PU on the phase morphology, crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of PLLA/PU blends has been investigated systematically. The results showed that the PU particles were uniformly dispersed in PLLA matrix at a scale from sub- microns to several microns. The glass transition temperature of PU within these blends decreased compared to that of neat PU, but rose slightly with its content and hard segment ratio. The presence of PU retarded the crystallization ability of PLLA, whereas enhanced its elongation at break and impact resistance effectively. As the PU content reaches up to 30 wt%, the phenomenon of brittle-ductile transition occurred, resulting in a rougher fracture surface with the formation of fibril-like structure. Moreover, under the same concentrations, the elongation at break and impact strength of PLLA blends decreased slightly with the increase of hard segment ratio of PU. 展开更多

This method can obtain the multi-peak match intensity ratio among each phase in the mixture sample by using all diffraction peak data in the mixture sample X-ray diffraction spectrum and combining the relative intensity distribution data of each phase standard peak in JCPDS card to carry on the least square method regression analysis. It is benefit to improve the precision of quantitative phase analysis that the given single line ratio which is usually adopted is taken the place of the multi-peak match intensity ratio and is used in X-ray diffraction quantitative phase analysis of the mixture sample. By analyzing four-group mixture sample, adopting multi-peak match intensity ratio and X-ray diffraction quantitative phase analysis principle of combining the adiabatic and matrix flushing method, it is tested that the experimental results are identical with theory. 展开更多

Emulsion electrospinning as a novel process in spinning core-sheath fibers shows a promising potential in drug release control. The volume ratio of water phase to oily phase is one of the critical parameters in forming core-sheath fibers. In this study, water phase was presented by hydrophilic tetracycline hydrochloride and oily phase by hydrophobic poly (E-caprolactone) (PCL). The effects of volume ratios of water phase to oily phase on fiber morphology and in vitro drug release were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy ( SEM ), transmission electron microscopy ( TEM), and eonfoeal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM) were used to observe the morphology, core.sheath structure of the fibers and drug loading in the fibers, respectively. Samples of three different volume ratios of water phase to oily phase, 1: 25, 1:15, and 1:10, were prepared with the same concentration of drug solution. Experiment results showed that, with an increase in the volume ratios of water phase to oily phase, the fiber diameter increased and diameter distribution scattered. The drug entrapment efficiency of the fibers reduces with the increase in volume ratios, L e. , from 73.48 % in the ratio of 1 : 25, 62.23 % in 1 : 15, down to 45.63 % in 1:10. In vitro release tests showed that a higher volume ratio of water phase to oily phase would lead to a lower release rate resulted from thicker fiber sheath. 展开更多

Nonlinear finite element analysis and parametric studies were carried out to study the influence of axial load ratio on the shear behavior of the through-diaphragm connections of concrete-filled square steel tubular columns. The analysis reveals that smaller axial load ratio can improve the shear bearing capacity and ductility while larger axial load ratio will decrease the shear behavior of the through-diaphragm connections. The parametric studies indicate that the axial load ratio should be limited to less than 0.4 and its influence should be considered in the analysis and design of such connections. 展开更多

DWCs were firstly designed for each case by optimizing the vapor split to the two sides of the dividing wall, and then their feasibilities and total annual costs in operation were evaluated against different vapor split ratios. The analysis on the operability of the DWC for four cases was made based on two scenarios: (1) vapor split is shifted by the vapor resistance difference between the column sections in the two sides of the dividing wall and (2) the feed composition is changed. It was demonstrated that the positioning of the dividing wall and the decision on the vapor split may affect significantly the operability of a DWC. 展开更多

Using experimental data from a number of pulsed disc and doughnut solvent extraction columns, a unified correla- tion for the prediction of dispersed phase holdup that considers the effects of mass transfer is presented. Pulsed disc and doughnut solvent extraction columns (PDDC) have been used for a range of important applications such as ura- nium extraction and nuclear fuel recycling. Although the dispersed phase holdup in a PDDC has been presented by some researchers, there is still the need to develop a robust correlation that can predict the experimental dispersed phase holdup over a range of operating conditions including the effects of mass transfer direction. In this study, dis- persed phase holdup data from different literature sources for a PDDC were used to refit constants for the correlation presented by Kumar and Hartland lind. Eng. Chem. Res.,27 (1988),131-138] which did not consider the effect of col- umn geometry. In order to incorporate the characteristic length of the PDDC (i.e. the plate spacing), the unified cor- relation for holdup proposed by Kumar and Hartland based on data from eight different types of columns [Ind. Eng. Chem. Res.,34 (1995) 3925-3940] was refitted to the PDDC data. New constants have been presented for each hold- up correlation for a PDDC based on regression analysis using published holdup data from PDDCs that cover a range of onerating conditions and nhwical nronerties and consider the direction of mass transfer. 展开更多

In recent years, more and more high Al2O3 iron ores were used in East Asia, especially in China, which increased the Al2O3 content in blast furnace (BF) slag and resulted in poor metallurgical properties of slag. Adding MgO-bearing flux is one of the methods to improve the metallurgical properties of slag with high Al2O3. However, there is lack of theoretical basis for the proper MgO/Al2O3 ratio. Therefore, the properties of slag in SiO2-CaO-MgO-Al2O3 system were investigated based on viscosity experiments and phase diagram analyses at 1500℃, and the proper MgO/Al2O3 ratio was explored according to the Al2O3 content in slag. The experimental results show that: (1) in the case of Al2O3 content less than 14mass%, there is no limitation of the MgO/Al2O3 ratio, and the amount of MgO in slag can be determined according to the hearth tempera-ture and desulfurization;(2) in the case of Al2O3 content between 15 and 17mass%, the proper MgO/Al2O3 ratio should be 0.40-0.50;(3) in the case of Al2O3 content between 18 and 20mass%, the proper MgO/Al2O3 ratio should be 0.45-0.55. Consequently, the three-segment control theory of MgO/Al2O3 for BF slag was built, and the actual BF performances proved the validity and applicability of this theory. The research contents and results can give theoretical guidelines for stable BF operation in a wide range of Al2O3 content of 12-20mass%. 展开更多

In this study, an enthalpy-concentration method was applied in order to model a steady state continuous benzene-toluene mixture distillation column. For a distillation tower such as the benzene- toluene splitter, there are relatively few degrees of freedom that can be manipulated in order to minimize the total annualized cost. The reflux ratio can influence the steady-state operating point and therefore influence the total annualized cost. The trade-offs between reflux ratios and total annualized cost were discussed. The Cuckoo optimization algorithm was applied to obtain a correlation for the optimum value of the reflux ratio as a power function of the economic parameters of energy price and capital cost. The results show that, at low energy price or high capital cost, the optimum reflux factor is high. 展开更多

Here,a styrene-based polymer monolithic column poly(VBS-co-TAT-co-AHM)with reversed-phase/hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography(RPLC/HILIC)bifunctional separation mode was success-fully prepared for capillary electrochromatography by the in situ polymerization of sodium p-styrene sulfonate(VBS)with cross-linkers 3-(acryloyloxy)-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate(AHM)and 1,3,5-triacryloylhexahydro-1,3,5-triazine(TAT).The preparation conditions of the monolith were optimized.The morphology and formation of the poly(VBS-co-TAT-co-AHM)monolith were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The separation perfor-mances of the monolith were evaluated systematically.It should be noted that the incorporation of VBS functional monomer can provideπ-πinteractions,hydrophilic interactions,and ion-exchange in-teractions.Hence,the prepared poly(VBS-co-TAT-co-AHM)monolith can achieve efficient separation of thiourea compounds,benzene series,phenol compounds,aniline compounds and sulfonamides in RPLC or HILIC separation mode.The largest theoretical plate number for N,N0-dimethylthiourea reached 1.7×10^(5)plates/m.In addition,the poly(VBS-co-TAT-co-AHM)monolithic column showed excellent reproducibility and stability.This novel monolithic column has great application value and potential in capillary electrochromatography(CEC). 展开更多

This study focuses on developing a novel multiphase stainless steel with enhanced ductility and an ultralow yield ratio achieved through solid-solution treatment.The steel exhibits remarkable mechanical properties:a tensile strength of approximately 1114 MPa,an ultralow yield ratio of 0.36,exceptional uniform elongation of approximately 17.48%,and total elongation of approximately 21.73%.The remarkable ductility of the steel can be attributed to the transformation-induced plasticity(TRIP)effect observed in the retained austenite,while its exceptional strength results from the combined effects of TRIP and the martensite phase. 展开更多

Selection and design is one of them in parameter in the performance of three phase system. This paper focuses on volume fraction and density effect on the phases hold-up in a 3 phase fluidize bed column containing liquid phase with 100 cm height and 20 cm diameter, in this case the solid phase with 0.15, 0.25, 0.35 volume fraction and density 2470, 3000, 4000, 5000 m3 dispersion into liquid phase and the gas phase enter the column through a sparger of 2 cm diameter with 0.02 m/s velocities. The results show as the solid phase volume fraction increases from 0.02 to 0.08 m/s. The gas hold-up decreases and solid hold-up increases. Solid phase density increases, so solid phase hold-up decreases and gas hold-up decreases. 展开更多
