Current studies mainly focus on radial clearance of revolute joints, while axial clearance has rarely been taken into consideration. In fact, own?ing to errors from machining and assembly, thermal deformation and so forth, practically, axial clearance is inevitable in the joint. In this study, an error equivalent model(EEM) of revolute joints is proposed with considering both radial and axial clearances. Compared to the planar model of revolute joints only considering radial clearance, the journal motion inside the bearing is more abundant and matches the reality better in the EEM. The model is also extended for analyzing the error distribution of a spatial dual?axis("X–Y" type) antenna pointing mechanism of Spot?beam antennas which especially demand a high pointing accuracy. Three case studies are performed which illustrates the internal relation between radial clearance and axial clearance. It is found that when the axial clearance is big enough, the physical journal can freely realize both translational motion and rotational motion. While if the axial clearance is limited, the motion of the physical journal will be restricted. Analysis results indicate that the consideration of both radial and axial clearances in the revolute joint describes the journal motion inside the bearing more precise. To further validate the proposed model, a model of the EEM is designed and fabricated. Some suggestions on the design of revolute joints are also provided.展开更多

In this paper, both the different sizes of nozzle end-clearances and the various ratios of their distribution at the hub and shroud sides were modelled and investigated by performing 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) and Finite Element Analysis(FEA) simulations with a code of transferring the aerodynamic pressure from the CFD results to the FEA calculations. It was found that increasing the size of the nozzle end-clearances divided equally at the hub and shroud sides deteriorates turbine efficiency and turbine wheel reliability, yet increases turbine flow capacity. And, when the total nozzle endclearances remain the same, varying nozzle end-clearances' distribution at the hub and shroud sides not only shifts operation point of a VNT turbine, but also affects the turbine wheel vibration stress.Compared with nozzle hub clearance, the shroud clearance is more sensitive to both aerodynamic performance and reliability of a VNT turbine. Consequently, a possibility is put forward to improve VNT turbine efficiency meanwhile decrease vibration stress by optimizing nozzle end-clearances' distribution.展开更多

A simple formulation for this contact problem is developed by modeling the pin as a rigid wedge and the elastic plate as a simple Winkler elastic foundation. The numerical results show that the normal displacement relation based on Hertz theory is only valid for the case of large clearance with a small normal load, and the NFD relation based on Persson theory is only effective in the case of very small clearance. The proposed approximate model in this paper gives better results than Hertz theory and Persson theory in a large range of clearances as seen from the comparison with the results of FEM.展开更多

The resulting data, obtained from 54 harvesting blocks, were analyzed by machine type (two wood forwarders and one grapple skidder), stand type (softwood plantation versus natural hardwood stands), month, slope, cartographic depth-to-water (DTW) classes, number of passes along track, and machine speed. For the most part, clearances were highly variable, due to passing over stumps, rocks, harvest slash, brushmats, ruts, and snow cover when present. This variability was on average greater for the lighter-weight wood forwarders than for the heavier-weight skidder, with the former mostly moving along equally spaced lines on brushmats, while the paths of the latter spread away from central wood-landing sites. In terms of trends, machines moved 1) more slowly on wet ground, 2) faster during returning than forwarding, and 3) fastest along wood-landing roads, as to be expected. Low clearances were most notable during winter on snow-covered ground, and on non-frozen shallow DTW and wet multiple-pass ground. During dry weather conditions, clearances also increased from low-pass tracks to multi-pass tracks due to repeat soil compaction of broadened tracks. These results are presented block-by-block and by machine type. Each block-based clearance frequency pattern was quantified through regression analysis and using a gamma probability distribution function.展开更多

The three-dimensional steady flow field within the rotor passage was simulated with the datum tip clearance of 0.356 mm at the design wheel speed of 17188.7 rpm. The simulation results are well consistent with the measurement results, which verified the numeri- cal method. Then the three-dimensional steady flow field within the rotor passage was simulated respectively with different axial non-uniform tip clearances. The calculation results showed that optimal axial non-uniform tip clearances could improve the compressor performance, while the efficiency and the pressure ratio of the com- pressor were increased. The flow mechanism is that the axial non-uniform tip clearance can weaken the tip leak- age vortex, blow down low-energy fluids in boundary layers and reduce both flow blockage and tip loss.展开更多

Alt...Mitochondrial dysfunction has emerged as a critical factor in the etiology of various neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and Rett syndrome. Although these conditions differ in clinical presentation, they share fundamental pathological features that may stem from abnormal mitochondrial dynamics and impaired autophagic clearance, which contribute to redox imbalance and oxidative stress in neurons. This review aimed to elucidate the relationship between mitochondrial dynamics dysfunction and neurodevelopmental disorders. Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles that undergo continuous fusion and fission to meet the substantial energy demands of neural cells. Dysregulation of these processes, as observed in certain neurodevelopmental disorders, causes accumulation of damaged mitochondria, exacerbating oxidative damage and impairing neuronal function. The phosphatase and tensin homolog-induced putative kinase 1/E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase pathway is crucial for mitophagy, the process of selectively removing malfunctioning mitochondria. Mutations in genes encoding mitochondrial fusion proteins have been identified in autism spectrum disorders, linking disruptions in the fusion-fission equilibrium to neurodevelopmental impairments. Additionally, animal models of Rett syndrome have shown pronounced defects in mitophagy, reinforcing the notion that mitochondrial quality control is indispensable for neuronal health. Clinical studies have highlighted the importance of mitochondrial disturbances in neurodevelopmental disorders. In autism spectrum disorders, elevated oxidative stress markers and mitochondrial DNA deletions indicate compromised mitochondrial function. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder has also been associated with cognitive deficits linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. Moreover, induced pluripotent stem cell models derived from patients with Rett syndrome have shown impaired mitochondrial dynamics and heightened vulnerability to oxidative injury, suggesting the role of defective mitochondrial homeostasis in these disorders. From a translational standpoint, multiple therapeutic approaches targeting mitochondrial pathways show promise. Interventions aimed at preserving normal fusion-fission cycles or enhancing mitophagy can reduce oxidative damage by limiting the accumulation of defective mitochondria. Pharmacological modulation of mitochondrial permeability and upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha, an essential regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis, may also ameliorate cellular energy deficits. Identifying early biomarkers of mitochondrial impairment is crucial for precision medicine, since it can help clinicians tailor interventions to individual patient profiles and improve prognoses. Furthermore, integrating mitochondria-focused strategies with established therapies, such as antioxidants or behavioral interventions, may enhance treatment efficacy and yield better clinical outcomes. Leveraging these pathways could open avenues for regenerative strategies, given the influence of mitochondria on neuronal repair and plasticity. In conclusion, this review indicates mitochondrial homeostasis as a unifying therapeutic axis within neurodevelopmental pathophysiology. Disruptions in mitochondrial dynamics and autophagic clearance converge on oxidative stress, and researchers should prioritize validating these interventions in clinical settings to advance precision medicine and enhance outcomes for individuals affected by neurodevelopmental disorders.展开更多

Then, the cases of inlet and outlet channels with the least hydraulic loss are selected to form an integral pump system, for which both numerical simulation and experimental investigation are carried out. The numerical results agree well with the experimental data. It is shown that the clearances of the interfaces between different components of the pump system have a significant impact on the internal flow structure, turbulent entropy and hydraulic performance of the inlet and outlet channels. For the cases of normalized bottom clearance less than 0.5 and normalized top clearance larger than 0.4, the internal flow and hydraulic performance indexes of inlet and outlet channels are relatively poor. There also exists a critical clearance in either inlet or outlet channel at which the hydraulic loss reaches the maximum. The results serve as an important reference for the design as well as safe and efficient operation of the vertical axial flow pump system.展开更多

A nonlinear dynamic model of a deep groove ball bearing with five degrees of freedom is developed for numerical analysis under increased radial clearances which are due to not only the scenarios of bearing grades but also gradual wear with bearing service lifetime. The model incorporates local defects and clearance increments in order to gain the insight into the bearing dynamics under different fault cases along with clearance changes. Numerical results show that the vibrations at fault characteristic frequencies exhibit clear inconsistency with common understandings for different cases of increased clearances. This study highlights that it has to take into account the clearance effect, especially for the inner race fault, in order to avoid the under-estimate of fault sizes which may be indicated by the feature amplitude reduction.展开更多

文摘It has been well known that nozzle end-clearances in a Variable Nozzle Turbine(VNT)are unfavorable for aerodynamic performance, especially at small openings, and efforts to further decrease size of the clearances are very hard due to thermal expansion. Consequently, a possibility is put forward to improve VNT turbine efficiency meanwhile decrease vibration stress by optimizing nozzle end-clearances' distribution.

文摘This paper is concerned with the determination of the normal force-displacement (NFD) relation for the contact problem of cylindrical joints with clearance. The proposed approximate model in this paper gives better results than Hertz theory and Persson theory in a large range of clearances as seen from the comparison with the results of FEM.

文摘A new nonlinear transverse-torsional coupled model with backlash and bearing clearance was proposed for planetary gear set. Meanwhile, sun gear and planet's eccentricity errors, static transmission error, and time-varying meshing stiffness were taken into consideration. The differential governing equations of motion were solved by employing variable step-size Rung-Kutta numerical integration method. The behavior of dynamic load sharing characteristics affected by the system parameters including input rate, sun gear's supporting stiffness and eccentricity error, planet's eccentricity error, sun gear's bearing clearance, backlashes of sun-planet and planet-ring meshes were investigated qualitatively and systematically. Some theoretical results are summarized at last which extend the current understanding of the dynamic load sharing behavior of planet gear train, enrich the related literature and provide references for the design of planetary gear train.
文摘This article reports on track-monitoring and analyzing machine clearances during wood forwarding across seasons and weather, using ultrasonic distance sensors in combination with time-stamped GPS xy locations, at 10 sec intervals. Each block-based clearance frequency pattern was quantified through regression analysis and using a gamma probability distribution function.

文摘This paper presents a numerical investigation of effects of axial non-uniform tip clearances on the aerodynamic performance of a transonic axial compressor rotor (NASA Rotor 37). The flow mechanism is that the axial non-uniform tip clearance can weaken the tip leak- age vortex, blow down low-energy fluids in boundary layers and reduce both flow blockage and tip loss.

文摘The excessive buildup of neurotoxicα-synuclein plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease, highlighting the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies to promoteα-synuclein clearance, particularly given the current lack of disease-modifying treatments. The glymphatic system,a recently identified perivascular fluid transport network,is crucial for clearing neurotoxic proteins. This review aims to synthesize current knowledge on the role of the glymphatic system inα-synuclein clearance and its implications for the pathology of Parkinson's disease while emphasizing potential therapeutic strategies and areas for future research. The review begins with an overview of the glymphatic system and details its anatomical structure and physiological functions that facilitate cerebrospinal fluid circulation and waste clearance. It summarizes emerging evidence from neuroimaging and experimental studies that highlight the close correlation between the glymphatic system and clinical symptom severity in patients with Parkinson's disease,as well as the effect of glymphatic dysfunction onα-synuclein accumulation in Parkinson's disease models.Subsequently, the review summarizes the mechanisms of glymphatic system impairment in Parkinson's disease, including sleep disturbances,aquaporin-4 impairment, and mitochondrial dysfunction, all of which diminish glymphatic system efficiency. This creates a vicious cycle that exacerbatesα-synuclein accumulation and worsens Parkinson's disease. The therapeutic perspectives section outlines strategies for enhancing glymphatic activity, such as improving sleep quality and pharmacologically targeting aquaporin-4 or its subcellular localization.Promising interventions include deep brain stimulation, melatonin supplementation,γ-aminobutyric acid modulation, and non-invasive methods(such as exercise and bright-light therapy),multisensoryγstimulation, and ultrasound therapy. Moreover, identifying neuroimaging biomarkers to assess glymphatic flow as an indicator ofα-synuclein burden could refine Parkinson's disease diagnosis and track disease progression. In conclusion, the review highlights the critical role of the glymphatic system inα-synuclein clearance and its potential as a therapeutic target in Parkinson's disease. It advocates for further research to elucidate the specific mechanisms by which the glymphatic system clears misfoldedα-synuclein and the development of imaging biomarkers to monitor glymphatic activity in patients with Parkinson's disease.Findings from this review suggest that enhancing glymphatic clearance is a promising strategy for reducingα-synuclein deposits and mitigating the progression of Parkinson's disease.
文摘Circumferentially non-uniform tip clearances induced by rotor eccentricity significantly affect the overall performance of axial compressors, particularly the stability margin.Currently,Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)plays a crucial role in the aerodynamic analysis of eccentric compressors. However, conventional full-annulus Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(URANS)simulations are prohibitively expensive for routine design and analysis purposes. To address this issue, the paper presents a novel Fourier-based method, called the Time-Space Collocation(TSC)method, for efficient simulations of eccentric compressors. This method coherently treats temporal and spatial harmonics, making it well-suited to tackle the rotor eccentricity problem,as the perturbation waves induced by eccentricity are time-periodic with respect to the rotor and space-periodic with respect to the stator.Three numerical cases, including NASA Rotor 67,original Stage 67,and Stage 67 with a reduced rotor-stator axial gap, were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the TSC method. The results indicate that, for the rotor eccentricity levels studied in this paper, the influence of weak rotor-stator interactions can be disregarded in the original Stage 67.In this situation, applying three harmonics can accurately capture both the performance variations and the non-uniformly distributed flowfields of eccentric compressors, while achieving a reduction in run time by two orders of magnitude compared to full-annulus URANS simulations. However,in Stage 67 with a reduced rotor-stator axial gap,the results that include rotor-stator interactions align much more closely with the URANS results.Nevertheless, the TSC simulations can still achieve speed-ups of several dozen times.Overall, the TSC method shows promising potential for application within the engineering community.
文摘Mitochondrial dysfunction has emerged as a critical factor in the etiology of various neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and Rett syndrome. Disruptions in mitochondrial dynamics and autophagic clearance converge on oxidative stress, and researchers should prioritize validating these interventions in clinical settings to advance precision medicine and enhance outcomes for individuals affected by neurodevelopmental disorders.

文摘Alzheimer s disease is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions worldwide, with current treatments offering only limited benefits.Central to emerging research is the role of autophagy and endolysosomal pathways, which are essential for clearing misfolded proteins and damaged organelles.Bridging integrator 1(BIN1),traditionally recognized for its role in membrane remodeling and endocytosis, has recently emerged as a top genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, linking cellular clearance mechanisms to the development of toxic amyloid-beta plaques and tau tangles. In this review,we provide an accessible overview of how disruptions in autophagy and endolysosomal trafficking contribute to the neurodegeneration process in Alzheimer's disease, positioning BIN1 as a central mediator within this complex network.Recent advances have shown that alte rations in BIN1 expression and isoform distribution are associated with increased tau pathology and changes in amyloid-beta processing.Moreover,BIN1 appears to also influence synaptic transmission, neuroinflammation, and overall cellular homeostasis. The integration of recent findings not only deepens our understanding of Alzheimer s disease pathology but also opens new avenues for the development of targeted treatments. This timely perspective underscores the potential of modulating BIN1 activity to enhance cellular clearance mechanisms and offers hope for more effective inte rventions for Alzheimer's disease.

文摘Activation of spinal cord neural stem cells(NSCs)and subsequent neurogenesis holds a promising alternative for spinal cord injury(SCI)repair. Our previous study demonstrated that complement C3a,derived from reactive astrocytes, inhibits NSC proliferation by suppressing protein aggregate clearance through the deubiquitinating enzyme ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1(UCHL1)-proteasome system post-SCI.However,the potential molecular mechanism by which C3a modulates NSC activation via this pathway remains unclear. Here,we revealed that C3a/C3a receptor(C3aR)signaling activated NF-κB p65,which in turn inhibited Nrf2 activity and UCHL1 expression, resulting in diminished proteasome activity and the accumulation of protein aggregates, and ultimately impaired NSC activation. Both knockdown of NF-κB p65 and Nrf2 upregulation restored UCHL1 expression and proteasome activity in vitro, promoting NSC activation by enhancing protein aggregate clearance.Mechanistically,we found that NF-κB p65 regulated Nrf2 activity through a dual mechanism:(1)promoting Keap1-dependent ubiquitination and proteasome degradation of Nrf2;(2)inhibiting protein kinase C-mediated Nrf2 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation.Using the dual-luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)analysis,we further identified UCHL1 as a direct transcriptional target of Nrf2.Importantly,in vivo experiments using SCI mice confirmed that either C3aR blockade,NF-κB p65 knockdown,or Nrf2 overexpression could rescue SCI-induced UCHL1 downregulation.Together, this study uncovers the C3a-NF-κB p65-Nrf2-UCHL1-proteasome axis as a critical regulator of NSC activation after SCI.This may provide novel molecular targets and intervention strategies for SCI repair.

文摘A comprehensive method to predict wear in planar mechanical systems with clearance joints is presented and discussed in this paper. This method consists of a system dynamic analysis and a joint wear prediction. As the size and shape of the clearance are dictated by wear and evolve with the dynamic response of the system, the contact between the journal and bearing could be conformal or non-conformal,which makes the contact conditions in clearance joints quite complicated. Therefore a modified contact force model is employed to evaluate the joint reaction force in this study. As the nonlinear stiffness coefficient is related to the physical and geometrical properties of contact bodies and varies with the deformation, this contact force model is applicable to different contact conditions between the journal and bearing.Furthermore, based on the Archard’s wear model, the amount of wear can be quantified in the joint. And the geometry is updated to reflect the evolving contact boundary. Then, the wear process and the contact force model are integrated into the motion equations of the system to perform coupled iterative analyses between system dynamic response and joint wear prediction. In addition,a slider-crank mechanism is simulated as an example to demonstrate efficiency of the proposed method and to carry out a parametric study on mechanical systems considering joint wear. The influence of clearance size and driving power are discussed and compared respectively. The index of concordance is introduced to quantify contributions of contact pressure and sliding distance to wear rate under different types of journal motion. This study could help to predict joint wear in mechanical systems with clearances and optimize mechanisms in design.

文摘In order to investigate the characteristics of a vertical axial flow pump under various clearances of flare tube, the bell-shaped inlet and box culvert outlet channels with flare tube are studied numerically and experimentally. The results serve as an important reference for the design as well as safe and efficient operation of the vertical axial flow pump system.
文摘This paper presents investigations into the influences of bearing clearances on the diagnostic features of monitoring rolling-bearings. This study highlights that it has to take into account the clearance effect, especially for the inner race fault, in order to avoid the under-estimate of fault sizes which may be indicated by the feature amplitude reduction.
