WC particles reinforced CoCrFeNiMo high-entropy alloy(HEA)composite coatings were prepared on Cr12MoV steel successfully by laser cladding technology to improve the wear resistance of substrates.Effect of WC content on microstructure and wear property of the composite coatings was studied in detail.Large numbers of carbides with four main types:primary carbide crystals,eutectic structures,massive crystals growing along the periphery of the remaining WC particles and incompletely fused WC particles,were found to exist in the WC/CoCrFeNiMo composite coatings.With increasing WC content,the microhardness of coatings is gradually improved while the average friction coefficients follow the opposite trend due to solid solution strengthening and second phase strengthening effect.The maximum microhardness and minimum friction coefficient are HV_(0.2)689.7 and 0.72,respectively,for the composite coating with 30 wt.%WC,the wear resistance of the substrate is improved significantly,the wear mechanisms are spalling wear and abrasive wear due to their high microhardness. 展开更多

The mathematical model between laser cladding parameters and coating properties was established by the response surface method(RSM).Ni–WC-reinforced CoCrNiFeAl high-entropy alloy(HEA)composite coatings were prepared on the surface of 0Cr13Ni5Mo steel by laser cladding to study the addition of Ni–WC on slurry erosion resistance of coatings.The optimal parameters obtained by RSM are laser power of 1450 W,scanning speed of 4.3 mm/s,powder feeding speed of 1.3 r/min and overlap rate of 60%,respectively.The grains of CoCrNiFeAl composite coatings are refined by adding Ni–WC-reinforced powder.15 wt.%Ni–WC composite coating presents the maximum microhardness with the value of 655 HV_(0.3).The cumulative mass loss of the composite coatings at different erosion angles is lower than that of the pure CoCrNiFeAl coating.In addition,at low erosion angles,the cumulative mass loss of the composite coatings gradually decreases with the increase in the mass fraction of Ni–WC.Ploughing and microcutting are the primary erosion mechanisms of CoCrNiFeAl composite coatings at low erosion angles.When erosion damage occurs at high erosion angle,the erosion mechanisms of composite coating material loss are dominated by lip formation and craters.The proposed high-entropy alloy composite coatings can be applied to improve the erosion resistance of components in contact with high-speed fluids,such as ship propellers and centrifugal pump blades. 展开更多

To improve the high-temperature service properties of coppery tuyere,Co06 coating with a Ni60A interlayer was prepared on copper by plasma cladding.Ni60A interlayer acted as a bridge to promote the element diffusion,thus achieving metallurgical bonding.Due to the strengthening effect ofγ-Co,Cr_(23)C_(6)and Cr_(7)C_(3)phases,the wear resistance of Co06–Ni60A coating was much higher than that of copper substrate.As the temperature increased,the wear resistance of coating decreased first and then increased.The coating exhibited better wear resistance at 600℃ due to the oxidation wear mechanism.Compared with copper substrate and Ni60A,the oxidation resistance of Co06 was increased by 6.0 and 1.9 times,respectively.For melting loss resistance,Co06–Ni60A coating was superior to Ni60A single-layer coating,but the molten iron can still form a micro-metallurgical bonding with the coating surface. 展开更多

The NiCoCrAlY coatings strengthened by three nano-particles with the same addition were prepared on a Ni-base super alloy using laser cladding technique. The dry frictional wear behaviors of the coatings at 500 ℃ in static air were investigated. The comparison was made with the coating without nano-particles. The results show that the wear mechanism of the NiCoCrAlY coatings with nano-particles, like the coating without nano-particles, is the delamination wear due to the strong plastic deformation and oxidative wear. However, the frictional coefficient of the coatings increases and presents the decrease trend with the increase of sliding distance after adding nano-particles. Moreover, the wear rate of the coatings with nano-particles is only 34.0%-64.5% of the coating without nano-particles. Among the three nano-particles, the improvement of nano-SiC on the high temperature wear resistance of the coating is the most significant. 展开更多

Longitude profiled cladded sheet is obtained by rolling bimetal cladded sheet with variable gauge rolling technology.The longitude profiled rolling process of Cu/Al cladded sheets was studied by finite element method and experiments.The rolling force rises with the increase in reduction,and a sudden change appears at the end of the thickness variation zone.The thickness ratio of copper layer is enlarged after rolling owing to its relatively large deformation resistance and continues to rise with the increase in reduction rate.Lower elongation of copper side leads to the warpage of exit metal to copper side,which further hinders the deformation of copper.The influence of asymmetric rolling parameters indicates that increasing the work roll diameter ratio,speed radio,and friction coefficient on Al side can reduce the warpage when the reduction rate is below a certain value depending on the thickness ratio and other rolling parameters.Comparison of experiments and simulation results showed good agreement and verified the finite element model. 展开更多

This work concerns the optimization of furnace brazing conditions for joining micro-multiport aluminum tubes and fins made with AA4343/AA3003/AA4343 brazing sheet in mini-assemblies mimicking the core of an automotive heat exchanger.Taguchi method was used for design of experiment,considering five process parameters with two levels of values.The aim was to maximize the fillet size of the brazed joints,which has an important influence on the thermal integrity and mechanical properties.Fillet length measurements of brazed joints were performed with a metallographic microscope.The statistical analysis allowed to obtain the optimum values of process parameters(peak temperature,residence time,heating rate,microchannel tube type and flux).At a 95%confidence level,the variability of fillet length is most significantly affected by the peak brazing temperature(77%),residence time(15%)and heating rate(7%).The predicted maximum fillet length was(152±11)μm,which was corroborated by confirmation trials.The microstructural analysis of tube−fin joints showed that variations in peak temperature and residence time affect only the size of the eutectic zone of fillet formed,but not the nature or composition of the constituent phases. 展开更多

Nano-particles which can largely improve the microstructure and oxidation resistance of materials are often used as a strengthening component in metal matrix composites.However,few studies were reported on its application in the bond coat of duplex structure thermal barrier coating(TBC).Three kinds of NiCoCrAlY coatings strengthened by different nano-particles with the same addition(1%,mass fraction)were prepared by the laser cladding technique on Ni-based superalloy substrates,aiming to study the effects of the nano-particles on microstructure and oxidation resistance of NiCoCrAlY coatings(the bond coat of the duplex structure thermal barrier coatings).Scanning electron microscope(SEM),X-ray diffractometer(XRD)and thermogravimetry were employed to investigate their morphologies,phases and cyclic oxidation behaviors in atmosphere at 1050℃,compared with the coating without nano-particles.With the addition of nano-particles,the growth pattern of the grains at the interface changed from epitaxial growth to non-epitaxial growth or part-epitaxial growth;slender dendrites were broken and cellularized;cracks and pores were restrained;and the oxidation weight-gain and the stripping resistance of the oxide scale were improved as well.Among the three kinds of nano-particles,the SiC nano-particles showed the most improvement on microstructure,while the CeO2 nano-particles were insufficient,but its effects on the oxidation resistance are the same as those of the SiC nano-particles.Based on the discussions of the influence mechanism,it is believed that CeO2 nano-particles would show better improvement than SiC nano-particles if the proper amount is added and the proper preparation technique of micro-nanometer composite powders is adopted,with the synergistic action of nanometer effect and reactive element effect. 展开更多

The choice of shielding gas was also studie... Laser cladded coatings of TiCN were produced on the surface of titanium. To obtain the optimal techniques, several conditions were tested by varying the laser scanning rate. The choice of shielding gas was also studied. The cladded coatings were then evaluated from the surface mechanics point of view based on their microhardness. The microstructure of some interesting samples was investigated by optical micrographs (OM). The results showed that under the condition of fixed pulse frequency and pulse width, the laser scanning rate and the shielding gas are the main factors influencing the components of coatings. TiCN coatings were decompounded and oxidized during the cladding process in the condition of no shielding gas of N2. X-ray diffraction results indicated that the composite coatings composed of TiCN, TiC, Ti2N, and TiO2 were produced using appropriate techniques. The results indicated that the best condition in terms of the surface microhardness is obtained when the scanning rate is 1.5mm/s, the pulse frequency is 15Hz, the pulse width is 3.0ms, and N2 is chosen as the shielding gas. The microhardness of the composite coatings is about 1331kg · mm^-2, which is about 4 times that of the substrate. The optical micrographs indicated that the cladding zone is made up of TiCN, TiO2 and some interdendritic Ti, but the diffusion zone mainly consists of the dendrites phase, and the cladded depth is about 80μm, which is more than 2 times that of the laser nitrided sample. There were no microcracks or air bubbles in the cladded sample, which was cladded using the above optimal techniques. 展开更多

A layer ofAerMet100 steel was coated on the surface of forged 300 M steel using laser cladding technique. The chemical compositions, microstructures, hardness and tensile properties of this AerMet100[300 M material were systematically investigated. Results show that the composition of the AerMet100 clad layer is macroscopically homogeneous, and a compositional transition zone with width of 150 μm is observed between the clad layer and heat affected zone. Microstructures in transition zone transform from the fine needle-like bainite in 300 M steel to the lath tempered martensite in AerMet100 clad layer. Microstructures in heat affected zone also gradually change from the thick plate bainite and blocky retained austenite (unstable heat affected zone) to fine needle-like bainite and film-like austenite (stable heat affected zone) due to different thermal cycle processes. Thick plate bainite together with blocky retained austenite in unstable heat affected zone reduce the strength and ductility of AerMet100/300 M material. However, the tensile specimens, consisting of clad layer and stable heat affected zone, show slightly inferior mechanical properties to 300 M steel. Ductile fracture exists in AerMet100 clad layer while quasi-cleavage fracture occurs in the stable heat affected zone. 展开更多

In order to improve the hardness and tribological performance of Ti6Al4V alloy,NiCoCrAlY-B_(4)C composite coatings with B_(4)C of 5%,10%and 15%(mass fraction)were fabricated on its surface by laser cladding(LC).The morphologies,chemical compositions and phases of obtained coatings were analyzed using scanning electronic microscope(SEM),energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD),respectively.The effects of B_(4)C mass fraction on the coefficient of friction(COF)and wear rate of NiCoCrAlY-B_(4)C coatings were investigated using a ball-on-disc wear tester.The results show that the NiCoCrAlY-B_(4)C coatings with different B_(4)C mass fractions are mainly composed of NiTi,NiTi_(2),α-Ti,CoO,AlB_(2),TiC,TiB and TiB_(2)phases.The COFs and wear rates of NiCoCrAlY-B_(4)C coatings decrease with the increase of B_(4)C content,which are contributed to the improvement of coating hardness by the B_(4)C addition.The wear mechanisms of NiCoCrAlY-B_(4)C coatings are changed from adhesive wear and oxidation wear to fatigue wear with the increase of B_(4)C content. 展开更多

The wear and corrosion resistance of Fe_(72.2)Cr_(16.8)Ni_(7.3)Mo_(1.6)Mn_(0.7)C_(0.2)Si_(1.2) and Fe_(77.3)Cr_(15.8)Ni_(3.9)Mo_(1.1)Mn_(0.5)C_(0.2)Si_(1.2) coatings laser-cladded on AISI 4130 steel were studied.The coatings possess excellent wear and corrosion resistance despite the absence of expensive yttrium,tungsten,and cobalt and very little molybdenum.The microstructure mainly consists of dendrites and eutectic phases,such as duplex(γ+α)-Fe and the Fe–Cr(Ni)solid solution,confirmed via energy dispersive spectrometry and X-ray diffraction.The cladded Fe-based coatings have lower coefficients of friction,and narrower and shallower wear tracks than the substrate without the cladding,and the main wear mechanism is mild abrasive wear.Electrochemical test results suggest that the soft Fe_(72.2)Cr_(16.8)Ni_(7.3)Mo_(1.6)Mn_(0.7)C_(0.2)Si_(1.2) coating with high Cr and Ni concentrations has high passivation resistance,low corrosion current,and positive corrosion potential,providing a better protective barrier layer to the AISI 4130 steel against corrosion. 展开更多

To improve the wear and corrosion properties of AZ91D magnesium alloys,Cu-based amorphous composite coatings were fabricated on AZ91D magnesium alloy by laser cladding using mixed powders of Cu47Ti34Zr11Ni8 and SiC.The wear and corrosion behaviours of the coatings were investigated.The wear resistance of the coatings was evaluated under dry sliding wear condition at room temperature.The corrosion resistance of the coatings was tested in 3.5%(mass fraction) NaCl solution.The coatings exhibit excellent wear resistance due to the recombined action of amorphous phase and different intermetallic compounds.The main wear mechanisms of the coatings and the AZ91D sample are different.The former is abrasive wear and the latter is adhesive wear.The coatings compared with AZ91D magnesium alloy also exhibit good corrosion resistance because of the presence of the amorphous phase in the coatings. 展开更多

A sandwich structure with cladding alloyed 316L stainless steel on plain carbon steel was prepared by means of powder metallurgy (PM) processing. Electrolytic Cu and prealloyed bronze (95Cu wt pct, 5Sn wt pct) were added in different contents up to 15% into the surface cladded 316L layers and the effect of alloying concentrations on the corrosion resistance of the 316L cladding layers was studied. The corrosion performances of the cladding samples were studied by immersion tests and potentio-dynamic anodic polarization tests in H2S04 and FeCI3 solutions. Both 316L and alloyed 316L surface layers with 1.0 mm depth produced by PM cladding had an effect to improve corrosion resistance in H2SO4 and FeCI3 solutions. Small Cu and bronze addition (4%) had a positive effect in H2SO4 and FeCI3 solutions. 4% Cu alloyed 316L surface layer produced by PM cladding showed similar anodic polarization behaviour to the 316L cladding layer in H2SO4 and FeCl3 solutions. 展开更多

Hydroxyapatite (HA, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) coating was fabricated on pure Ti (TA2) by laser cladding technology. The phase structure, microstructure, microhardness and electrochemical behavior of the laser cladded HA coating in artificial body fluid were investigated. The results show that the HA coating is mainly composed of highly crystallized HA. A transitional layer between HA coating and Ti substrate is formed. Microhardness measurement shows the gradually increasing of microhardness from 150 HV at TA2 substrate to 600 HV at transitional layer, and followed by a decreasing to 400 HV at HA coated layer. Electrochemical corrosion tests show that the HA coating has higher open circuit potential , lower corrosion current density and corrosion rate in comparison to the TA2 substrate. 展开更多

Taking advantage of the progress of roll-bonding technology, the integrity of the material technology, and the development of the production and examination facilities of all the main carbon steels, stainless steels and specialty alloys in Baosteel, the cladded flat new products, which combined both properties of base material and clad material ,have been developed and produced in large quantities. The product categories includes heavy plates with high alloy content and homogeneous distribution in thickness and carbon steel plates cladded with all kinds of stainless steels ,nickel alloys ,and titanium alloys. The double-sided and single-sided cladding hot roiled strips and cold rolled sheets were also commercially produced. Due to the combined properties of both the cladding material and backing material, all products show obvious improvement in properties when compared with solid material. The comparability with the existing production process and equipment laid a very solid foundation for high productivity. 展开更多

Tungsten inert gas(TIG) welding was applied to creating a composite layer on the surface of cast aluminum alloy A380. Different mixtures of Al, Si and SiC powders mixed with sodium silicate solution were pasted on substrates. Surface melting was conducted by TIG welding to produce Al-SiC layer on the surface. Microstructural evolution was investigated by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), optical and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and elemental microanalysis(EDS). Properties of clad layers were studied by microhardness and sliding wear testing. The results showed a uniform distribution of SiC particles in dendritic aluminum matrix. Addition of excess silicon caused the formation of eutectic crystals and coarse silicon particles in the clad layer which resulted in higher hardness and wear resistance of clad layers. 展开更多

Co-based superalloy coating was prepared on the stainless steel surface by laser cladding.The microstructure,phase constitutes and worn surface morphology of the coating were characterized by optical microscope,scanning electron microscope(SEM)with energy dispersive spectrum(EDS)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The ambient temperature sliding friction and wear property of the coating was also tested.The experiments results showed that:the microstructures of the Co-based superalloy coating are"cellular crystal-coarse dendrite-tiny dendrite"in turn from bottom to surface,which consists ofγ-Co solid solution,Fe2Mo and Co7Mo6.The average micro-hardness of the laser cladding is 632 HV,which is 2 times higher than that of 304 stainless steel matrix.The ambient temperature sliding friction and wear property of the laser cladding is about 1~1.5 times in contrast to that of 304 stainless steel matrix.The better wear resistance of the coating is contributed to solution strengthening of Mo,as well as dispersion strengthening of Fe2Mo and Co7Mo6 hard phases.The failure mechanisms of the coating are pitting fatigue abrasion and grain-abrasion. 展开更多
