Main Energy Paths and Energy Cascade Processes of the Two Types of Persistent Heavy Rainfall Events over the Yangtze River–Huaihe River Basin 被引量:6

Two types of persistent heavy rainfall events (PHREs) over the Yangtze River-Huaihe River Basin were determined in a recent statistical study: type A, whose precipitation is mainly located to the south of the Yangtze River; and type B, whose precipitation is mainly located to the north of the river. The present study investigated these two PHRE types using a newly derived set of energy equations to show the scale interaction and main energy paths contributing to the persistence of the precipitation. The main results were as follows. The available potential energy (APE) and kinetic energy (KE) associated with both PHRE types generally increased upward in the troposphere, with the energy of the type-A PHREs stronger than that of the type-B PHREs (except for in the middle troposphere). There were two main common and universal energy paths of the two PHRE types: (1) the baroclinic energy conversion from APE to KE was the dominant energy source for the evolution of large-scale background circulations; and (2) the downscaled energy cascade processes of KE and APE were vital for sustaining the eddy flow, which directly caused the PHREs. The significant differences between the two PHRE types mainly appeared in the lower troposphere, where the baroclinic energy conversion associated with the eddy flow in type-A PHREs was from KE to APE, which reduced the intensity of the precipitation-related eddy flow; whereas, the conversion in type-B PHREs was from APE to KE, which enhanced the eddy flow. 展开更多

Cell fate determination as a fundamental question in cell biology has been extensively studied at different regulatory levels for many years.However,the mechanisms of multilevel regulation of cell fate determination remain unclear.Recently,we have proposed an Epigenome-Metabolome-Epigenome(E-M-E)signaling cascade model to describe the cross-over cooperation during mouse somatic cell reprogramming.In this review,we summarize the broad roles of E-M-E signaling cascade in different cell biological processes,including cell differentiation and dedifferentiation,cell specialization,cell proliferation,and cell pathologic processes.Precise E-M-E signaling cascades are critical in these cell biological processes,and it is of worth to explore each step of E-M-E signaling cascade.E-M-E signaling cascade model sheds light on and may open a window to explore the mechanisms of multilevel regulation of cell biological processes. 展开更多

To overcome the deficiencies addressed in the conventional PID control and improve the dynamic performance and robustness of the system, a simple design and parameters tuning approach of internal model control-PID (IMC-PID) controller was proposed for the first order plus time-delay (FOPTD) process and the second order plus time-delay (SOPTD) process. By approximating the time-delay term of the process model with the first-order Taylor series, the expressions for IMC-PID controller parameters were derived, and they had only one adjustable parameter 2 which was directly related to the dynamic performance and robustness of the system. Moreover, an analytical approach of selecting 2 was given based on the maximum sensitivity Ms. Then, the robust tuning of the system could be achieved according to the value of Ms. In addition, the proposed method could be extended to the integrator plus time-delay (IPTD) process and the first order delay integrating (FODI) process. Simulation studies were carried out on various processes with time-delay, and the results show that the proposed method could provide a better dynamic performance of both the set-point tracking and disturbance rejection and robustness against parameters perturbation. 展开更多

Based on a nonlinear state predictor (NSP) and a strong tracking filter (STF), a sensor fault tolerant generic model control (FTGMC) approach for a class of nonlinear time-delay processes is proposed. First, the NSP is introduced, and it is used to extend the conventional generic model control (GMC) to nonlinear processes with large input time-delay. Then the STF is adopted to estimate process states and sensor bias, the estimated sensor bias is used to drive a fault detection logic. When a sensor fault is detected, the estimated process states by the STF will be used to construct the process output to form a 'soft sensor', which is then used by the NSP (instead of the real outputs) to provide state predictors. These procedures constitute an active fault tolerant control scheme. Finally, simulation results of a three-tank-system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Three ranges of wavelength, including visible output from 628 nm to 639 nm, near-infrared output from 797 nm to 816 nm, and mid-infrared output from 3167 nm to 3459 nm,were obtained from the monolithic PPLN, which consists of a 10-mm section for 532-nm-pumped optical parametric generation(OPG) and a 7-mm section for 1064-nm-pumped sum frequency generation(SFG). A pump-to-signal conversion efficiency of 23.4% for OPG at 50°C and a quantum efficiency of 26.2% for SFG at 200°C were obtained. 展开更多

The goethite iron precipitation process consists of several continuous reactors and involves a series of complex chemical reactions,such as oxidation reaction,hydrolysis reaction and neutralization reaction.It is hard to accurately establish a mathematical model of the process featured by strong nonlinearity,uncertainty and time-delay.A modeling method based on time-delay fuzzy gray cognitive network(T-FGCN)for the goethite iron precipitation process was proposed in this paper.On the basis of the process mechanism,experts’practical experience and historical data,the T-FGCN model of the goethite iron precipitation system was established and the weights were studied by using the nonlinear hebbian learning(NHL)algorithm with terminal constraints.By analyzing the system in uncertain environment of varying degrees,in the environment of high uncertainty,the T-FGCN can accurately simulate industrial systems with large time-delay and uncertainty and the simulated system can converge to steady state with zero gray scale or a small one. 展开更多

In this study,the vertical components of broadband teleseismic P wave data recorded by China Earthquake Network are used to image the rupture processes of the February 6th,2023 Turkish earthquake doublet via back projection analysis.Data in two frequency bands(0.5-2 Hz and 1-3 Hz)are used in the imaging processes.The results show that the rupture of the first event extends about 200 km to the northeast and about 150 km to the southwest,lasting~90 s in total.The southwestern rupture is triggered by the northeastern rupture,demonstrating a sequential bidirectional unilateral rupture pattern.The rupture of the second event extends approximately 80 km in both northeast and west directions,lasting~35 s in total and demonstrates a typical bilateral rupture feature.The cascading ruptures on both sides also reflect the occurrence of selective rupture behaviors on bifurcated faults.In addition,we observe super-shear ruptures on certain fault sections with relatively straight fault structures and sparse aftershocks. 展开更多

Branching Process based Cascading Failure Probability Analysis for a Regional Power Grid in China with Utility Outage Data

Studying the propagation of cascading failures through the transmission network is key to asses and mitigate the risk faced the energy system. As complex systems the power grid failure is often studied using some probability distributions. We apply 4 well-known probabilistic models, Poisson model, Power Law model, Generalized Poisson Branching process model and Borel-Tanner Branching process model, to a 14-year utility historical outage data from a regional power grid in China, computing probabilities of cascading line outages. For this data, the empirical distribution of the total number of line outages is well approximated by the initial line outages propagating according to a Borel-Tanner branching process. Also for this data, Power law model overestimates, while Generalized Possion branching process and Possion model underestimate, the probability of larger outages. Especially, the probability distribution generated by the Poisson model deviates heavily from the observed data, underestimating the probability of large events (total no. of outages over 5) by roughly a factor of 10-2 to 10-5. The observation is confirmed by a statistical test of model fitness. The results of this work indicate that further testing of Borel-Tanner branching process models of cascading failure is appropriate, and should be further discussed as it outperforms other more traditional models. 展开更多

Nonlinear cascaded femtosecond third harmonic generation was experimentally investigated pumped by 100 fs pulses at optical communication band 1550 nm using a multi-grating 5 mol. % MgO-doped periodically poled lithium niobate crystal. The optimized efficiency of 10.8% was achieved with the simultaneous phase-matching of the second harmonic and sum frequency process. And the third harmonic spectrum reached as broad as 8.7 nm because of the choosing of a small group velocity mismatching between the fundamental and second harmonic pulses. Nonlinear cascaded method will provide a reference for the efficient frequency conversion in the high intensity range. 展开更多

现有的骨龄评估(BAA)方法多数是基于西方GP和TW方法的改进,并不符合中国青少年的发育曲线。本文针对骨龄评估呈现出的民族化、地区化和时代化的趋势,采用一种基于中国人手腕骨发育标准05-CHN法并联合先验知识,融合多区域特征的级联模型... 现有的骨龄评估(BAA)方法多数是基于西方GP和TW方法的改进,并不符合中国青少年的发育曲线。本文针对骨龄评估呈现出的民族化、地区化和时代化的趋势,采用一种基于中国人手腕骨发育标准05-CHN法并联合先验知识,融合多区域特征的级联模型,以实现更准确的骨龄预测。先使用YOLOv8算法将CHN法对特征骨的权重分配作为先验知识应用于评估模型中;再使用特征融合网络HiFuse,结合Transformer的优势,引入卷积注意力机制,改进特征提取器,以提高评估的准确性。在自制的05-CHN数据集上获得的平均绝对误差(MAE)为5.83个月,在公共数据集RNSA上获得的MAE为6.24个月,相较于原算法检测速度提高了33.8%,MAE明显降低,进一步提升了两阶段评估方法的性能。 展开更多

For the first-order integrating processes with long delay, the disturbance observer-based 2DoF control scheme is analyzed in detail with regard to the control input limitation. After that, a simple anti-windup scheme, without an additional parameter, is proposed to compensate for the adverse effects of the input saturation. The proposed method can properly keep the control signal saturated for an optimum length of time without discarding the control energy. The simulation results show that the control input saturation can dramatically degrade the closed loop system performance. Under the nonfinal and model uncertainty cases, the controller with anti-windup strategy will obtain fast and smooth responses. Furthermore, the simulation results illustrate that the proposed anti-windup scheme may achieve good performance for the high order integrating processes with long delay. 展开更多

In this paper, an efficient methodology for synthesizing the indirect work exchange networks(WEN) considering isothermal process and adiabatic process respectively based on transshipment model is first proposed. In contrast with superstructure method, the transshipment model is easier to obtain the minimum utility consumption taken as the objective function and more convenient for us to attain the optimal network configuration for further minimizing the number of units. Different from division of temperature intervals in heat exchange networks,different pressure intervals are gained according to the maximum compression/expansion ratio in consideration of operating principles of indirect work exchangers and the characteristics of no pressure constraints for stream matches. The presented approach for WEN synthesis is a linear programming model applied to the isothermal process, but for indirect work exchange networks with adiabatic process, a nonlinear programming model needs establishing. Additionally, temperatures should be regarded as decision variables limited to the range between inlet and outlet temperatures in each sub-network. The constructed transshipment model can be solved first to get the minimum utility consumption and further to determine the minimum number of units by merging the adjacent pressure intervals on the basis of the proposed merging methods, which is proved to be effective through exergy analysis at the level of units structures. Finally, two cases are calculated to confirm it is dramatically feasible and effective that the optimal WEN configuration can be gained by the proposed method. 展开更多

A cascading failure of landslide dams caused by strong earthquakes or torrential rains in mountainous river valleys can pose great threats to people’s lives,properties,and infrastructures.In this study,based on the three-dimensional Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes equations(RANS),the renormalization group(RNG)k-εturbulence model,suspended and bed load transport equations,and the instability discriminant formula of dam breach side slope,and the explicit finite volume method(FVM),a detailed numerical simulation model for calculating the hydro-morphodynamic characteristics of cascading dam breach process has been developed.The developed numerical model can simulate the breach hydrograph and the dam breach morphology evolution during the cascading failure process of landslide dams.A model test of the breaches of two cascading landslide dams has been used as the validation case.The comparison of the calculated and measured results indicates that the breach hydrograph and the breach morphology evolution process of the upstream and downstream dams are generally consistent with each other,and the relative errors of the key breaching parameters,i.e.,the peak breach flow and the time to peak of each dam,are less than±5%.Further,the comparison of the breach hydrographs of the upstream and downstream dams shows that there is an amplification effect of the breach flood on the cascading landslide dam failures.Three key parameters,i.e.,the distance between the upstream and the downstream dams,the river channel slope,and the downstream dam height,have been used to study the flood amplification effect.The parameter sensitivity analyses show that the peak breach flow at the downstream dam decreases with increasing distance between the upstream and the downstream dams,and the downstream dam height.Further,the peak breach flow at the downstream dam first increases and then decreases with steepening of the river channel slope.When the flood caused by the upstream dam failure flows to the downstream dam,it can produce a surge wave that overtops and erodes the dam crest,resulting in a lowering of the dam crest elevation.This has an impact on the failure occurrence time and the peak breach flow of the downstream dam.The influence of the surge wave on the downstream dam failure process is related to the volume of water that overtops the dam crest and the erosion characteristics of dam material.Moreover,the cascading failure case of the Xiaogangjian and Lower Xiaogangjian landslide dams has also been used as the representative case for validating the model.In comparisons of the calculated and measured breach hydrographs and final breach morphologies,the relative errors of the key dam breaching parameters are all within±10%,which verify the rationality of the model is applicable to real-world cases.Overall,the numerical model developed in this study can provide important technical support for the risk assessment and emergency treatment of failures of cascading landslide dams. 展开更多
