The samples wrapped in graphite powder were placed in sealed quartz tubes, followed by solid carburization at 1227 K for 24 h. Microstructure and phase analysis indicated that TiC reinforcements and Ti-C solid solutions were introduced after solid carburization. Moreover, the volume fraction of equiaxedα-Ti phase in diffusion layer decreased obviously with increasing sample depth. Hardness testing results indicated that both the carburized surfaces performed significant improvement of about 100% in micro-hardness compared with untreated materials. The variation of carbon contents with increasing sample depth resulted in a hardened layer of 300 μm in the carburized samples. Meanwhile, slight influence on the internal microstructure and hardness indicated that solid carburization was an effective method in strengthening the surface of titanium alloy and titanium matrix composite.展开更多

The catalyst samples were characterized by N2 physisorption, transmis- sion electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Mossbauer spectroscopy, H2- differential thermogravimetric analysis (H2-DTG), CO temperature-programmed reduction (CO-TPR) and CO2 temperature-programmed des- orption (CO2-TPD). The Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) performance of the catalyst was measured at 1.5 MPa, 250 ℃ and syngas with H2/CO ratio of 2.0. The characterization results indicated that the addition of manganese decreases the catalyst crystallite size, and improves the catalyst BET surface area and pore volume. The presence of manganese suppresses the catalyst reduction and carburization in H2, CO and syngas, respectively. The addition of manganese improves the catalytic activity of water-gas shift reaction and suppresses the oxidation of iron carbides in the FTS reaction. The incorporation of manganese improves the catalyst surface basicity and results in a significant improvement in the selectivities to light olefins and heavy hydrocarbons (C5+), and furthermore an inhibition of methane formation in FTS. The pure iron catalyst (Mn-00) has the highest initial FTS catalytic activity (65%) and the lowest selectivity (17.35 wt%) to light olefins (C2=-C4=). The addition of an appropriate amount of manganese can improve the catalyst FTS activity.展开更多

However, the process param eters for low-pressure carburization of 16Cr3NiWMoVNbE steel have yet to be optimized. Thus, we use the saturation-value method to optimize these parameters for aviation-gear materials. Toward this end, the m icrostructure and properties of 16Cr3NiWMoVNbE steel after different carburization processes are studied by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transm ission electron microscopy, and electron probe microanalysis. Considering the saturated austenite carbon concentration, we propose a model of carbon flux and an alloy coefficient for low -pressure carburization to reduce the carbon concentration in austenite and avoid the surface carbide network. At the early stage of carburization (30 s), the gas-solid interface has a higher concentration gradient. The averaging method is not ideal in practical applications, but the carbon flux measured by using the segm ented average m ethod is 2.5 times that measured by the overall average method, which is ideal in practical applications. The corresponding carburization tim e is reduced by 60%. By using the integral average method, the actual carburization time increases, which leads to the rapid form ation of carbide on the surface and affects the entire carburization process. Nb and Wcombine with C to form carbides, which hinders carbon diffusion and consumes carbon, resulting in a sharp decrease in the rate of C diffusion in austenite (the diffusion rate is reduced by 52% for 16Cr3NiWMoVNbE steel). By changing the diffusion coefficient model and comparing the hardness gradient of different processes, the depth of the actual layer is found to be very similar to the design depth.展开更多

However, the commonly used gear steels which are microalloyed by Al are not suitable for high temperature carburization due to abnormal grain coarsening. The gear steel 20CrMnTiNb, which is microalloyed with 0. 048% Nb and 0. 038% Ti, has been compared with the gear steel 20CrMn in terms of microstructure in the case of hardened layer and in the core after carburizing at 1000 ℃ for 4 h and mechanical prop- erties after carburizing and pseudo-carburizing. The results indicate that the fine austenite grains exist in the carbu- rized case of 20CrMnTiNb steel, while there is abnormal coarsening and duplex grain structure in the case and core of steel 20CrMn. The average prior austenite grain sizes are 19.5 and 34.2 μm for the steels 20CrMnTiNb and 20CrMn, respectively. In addition, the mechanical properties of 20CrMnTiNb steel are superior to those of 20CrMn steel. In particular, the HV hardness of the former is higher than that of the latter by about 40--70 in the range of less than 0. 7 mm in depth. The mechanical properties such as hardness, fracture toughness and plasticity were measured to estimate the potential application of titanium cermets. The results show that after carburization the surface hardness of titanium cermets was 778 HV, with a significant improvement of 128% compared with that of titanium alloys. In addition, the fracture toughness of titanium cermets was 21.5 × 10^6 Pa.m^1/2, much higher than that of other ceramics. Furthermore, the analysis of the loading-unloading curve in the nanoindentation test also indicates that the plasticity of titanium cermet reached 32.1%, a relatively high value which illustrates the combination of the metal and ceramics properties. Effect of major process parameters on the induction plasma reactive deposition of tungsten carbide was studied by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X ray diffraction analysis, water displacement method, and microhardness test. The results show that methane flow rate, powder feed rate, particle size, reaction chamber pressure and deposition distance have significant influences on the phase composition, density, and microhardness of the deposit. Extra carbon is necessary to ensure the complete conversion of tungsten metal into the carbide.展开更多

Under the conditions of COFCC with n(O)-n(C) (molar ratio) as 1.00-0.84 and n(SiO2)-n(CaO) as 1.00-0.39, the samples were heated by 10 kW microwave power to reach the given temperatures and held for different times respectively. The results show that the low-C-Cr ferrochromium metal phase in the reduced materials forms before the high-C-Cr ferrochromium metal phase does. With increasing temperature the C content of ferrochromium metals is in a positive correlation with the content of Cr. The C content of ferrochromium metal in reduced materials is 0-10.07% with an average value of 4.68%. With the increase of holding time the Cr content in ferrochromium metals is in a negative correlation with the content of C, while the content of Fe changes in the contrary way. In the microwave field the kinetic conditions of carburization are closely related with the temperature of microwave heating, holding time and carbon fitting ratio.展开更多

文摘Titanium cermets were successfully synthesized on the surface of biomedical grade titanium alloys by using sequential carburization method. The results suggest that sequential carburization should be an efficient way to produce titanium cermets with hard surface, high toughness and plasticity.

文摘Microporous titanium carbide coating was successfully synthesized on medical grade titanium alloy by using sequential carburization.Changes in the surface morphology of titanium alloy occasioned by sequential carburization were characterized and the wettability characteristics were quantified.Furthermore, the dispersion forces were calculated and discussed. The results indicate that sequential carburization is an effective way to modify the wettability of titanium alloy. After the carburization the surface dispersion force of titanium alloy increased from 76.5×10^(-3)J·m^(-2) to 105.5×10^(-3) J·m^(-2),with an enhancement of 37.9 %.Meanwhile the contact angle of titanium alloy decreased from 83° to 71.5°,indicating a significant improvement of wettability, which is much closer to the optimal water contact angle for cell adhesion of 70°.

文摘The dissolution and precipitation behaviors of the carbides in carburized M50NiL steel were derived from different solution and tempering treatments.Totally four kinds of carbides of (V,Cr)-rich MC,(Mo,Fe)-rich M2C,Fe-rich M3C and (Fe,Cr)-rich M7C3 were obtained from the carburized M50NiL steel after different heat treatments. The key carbides of carbufized M50NiL steel were proved to be tough V-rich MC and Cr-rich M7C3.The highest hardness (634 HV)and the optimal surface structure with 1.0% volume fraction of uniformly distributed MC carbides were obtained after the carbufized M50NiL steel was solution-treated at 1150 ℃ and tempered at 500 ℃.The quantitative statistics show that 63%of the MC carbides were less than 200 nm under that heat treatment. The variety of carbides changed with solution and tempering conditions. When the solution temperature increased from 1050 to 1150 ℃,the undissolved carbides were proved to be Fe-rich M7C3,Mo-fich MC and (Mo,Fe)-fich M2C.Besides,the equivalent content of V-rich MC was found increased when the tempering temperature changed from 500 to 550 ℃.The combination of high-temperature solution and low-temperature tempering is recommendable heat treatment for the high hardness as well as the tiny and uniformly distributed carbides.
文摘The nature of the iron carbide catalyst has been a focus of research on Fischer-Tropsch(F-T)synthe-sis.Although the active iron phase in F-T synthesis remains a controversial issue,a large number of ex-periments have confirmed that the physical phase of the iron carbide plays a crucial role in F-T synthesis, and carbide species on the catalyst surface with an un-derlying iron carbide bulk structure are considered the active phase[1].In the theory of competition[2],both the carburization and the F-T synthesis itself have a common surface carbonaceous precursor. To verifythese, many experiments[3,4]have been carried out to observe the performance of iron carbide in F-T syn-thesis.There are several methods to prepare iron car-bide,including laser pyrolysis[3],microwave-induced plasma[5],and pretreatment of Fe/AC with syn-gas[6].However,the simplest method is pretreatingiron catalysts in a carburizing atmosphere, such as by using CO activation, syngas pretreatment or induc-tion,and/or H_(2) reduction followed by CO treatment or vice versa[7].In this paper, the iron carbide cata-lysts were prepared by two pretreatment processes:(1)carburizing the original iron oxide directly with CO,and(2)prereducing the sample with H_(2)fol-lowed by CO carburization.
文摘Tungsten carbide deposit was made directly from tungsten metal powder through the reaction with methane in radio frequency induction plasma. Extra carbon is necessary to ensure the complete conversion of tungsten metal into the carbide.

文摘Chromium ore fines containing coal (COFCC) can be rapidly heated by microwave to conduct the voluminal reduction, which lays a foundation of getting sponge ferrochromium powders with a lower content of C. In the microwave field the kinetic conditions of carburization are closely related with the temperature of microwave heating, holding time and carbon fitting ratio.

文摘In this study, the effects of various surface treatments on the friction and wear behavior of AISI 4140 steel have been evaluated.Sample surfaces of AISI 4140 steel were treated by quenching, carburizing, boronizing and plasma transferred arc (PTA) modification. The microstructural characteristics of surface treated steel samples were examined by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The mechanical properties of the samples including the surface roughness, microhardness, and abrasive and adhesive wear characteristics were also evaluated.Wear tests were applied by using a block-on-disc configuration under dry sliding conditions. The wear behavior and friction characteristics of the samples were determined as a function of sliding distance. Each sample group was compared with the other sample groups, and it was observed that the carburized samples demonstrated the lowest weight losses;however,PTA-treated samples demonstrated the lowest coefficient of friction in comparison to the other sample groups at the same sliding distance.
文摘Observation and analysis with TEM show that the fine granular dispersed carbides in hypereutectoid zone of steel 20Cr2Ni4A are distributed in the matrix of large number of lath martensite after rare earth carburizing. But while treating by conventional carburization and double quench hardening the retained carbides are finer and more dispersive, and its matrix is perfectly twin martersite. The different micrcotructures of matrix around carbide are formed with different kinds of carburization processes.
