In this letter,we comment on a recent article published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology by Xiao et al,where the authors aimed to use a deep learning model to automatically detect gastrointestinal lesions during capsule endoscopy(CE).CE was first presented in 2000 and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001.The indications of CE overlap with those of regular diagnostic endoscopy.However,in clinical practice,CE is usually used to detect lesions in areas inaccessible to standard endoscopies or in cases of bleeding that might be missed during conventional endoscopy.Since the emergence of CE,many physiological and technical challenges have been faced and addressed.In this letter,we summarize the current challenges and briefly mention the proposed methods to overcome these challenges to answer a central question:Do we still need CE? 展开更多

The Efficacy of Guizhi Fuling Capsule or Kuntai Capsule Combined With Diane-35 and Metformin in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Background:Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)is one of the most common reproductive endocrine metabolic diseases.Combined use of metformin and diane-35 has better curative effect in regulating serum hormone level(LH,FSH,T and E2)than using metformin alone.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)can also be used to treat PCOS.According to some studies,the combined use of metformin and diane-35 and TCM have achieved better curative effect than combining metformin and diane-35 in the treatment of patients with PCOS.Methods:Computerized searches of the science,Medline,VIP,Wan Fang and China HowNet(CNKI)databases were conducted to identify eligible randomized controlled trials(RCTs)from the data obtained up to March 1,2022.The Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool was used to assess the risk of bias in individual RCTs,and R software(version 4.0.3)was used for data statistical analysis.Results:Nine RCTs involving 1035 patients were included.Comparing to D+M,significant reduce of LH(mean difference[MD]:-1.93,95%confidence interval[CI]:-3.44,-0.42;Unit:U/L P<0.01;I2=89%)、T(MD:-1.44,95%CI-2.59,-0.30;Unit:nmol/L P<0.01;I2=98%)and significant increase of E2(MD:31.43,95%CI 24.54,38.33;Unit:pmol/L P<0.01;I2=96%)were shown in TCM+D+M.Comparing to D+M,TCM+D+M group has higher ovulation rate(RR 1.1495%CI 1.07,1.22;P=0.42;I2=0%)and higher pregnancy rate(RR 1.2995%CI 1.15,1.44;P=0.37;I2=7%).There is no significant difference between the two therapies in FSH changes(MD:-1.00,95%CI-2.27,0.28;Unit:U/L P<0.01;I2=95%).Subgroup analysis showed that compared with the Guizhi Fuling capsule group,the Kuntai capsule group had more FSH reduction and E2 increase more.In other outcome indicators,the two subgroup did not show significant differences.Conclusion:Kuntai Capsule+Diane-35+Metformin is better than Guizhi Fuling Capsule in reducing FSH,and it is also better in increasing E2.There was no significant difference between the two in LH and T hormones.There was no significant difference between Kuntai Capsules+Diane-35+Metformin and Guizhi Fuling Capsules+Diane-35+Metformin.As for the effect in lessen insulin resistance,Kuntai Capsule+Diane-35+Metformin was significantly better than Guizhi Fuling Capsules+Diane-35+Metformin. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Surveillance colonoscopies are predominantly normal,identifying patients for potential polypectomy is advantageous.AIM To assess colon capsule endoscopy(CCE)and/or faecal immunochemical test(FIT)as filters in surveillance.METHODS Patients aged≥18 due for polyp surveillance were invited for CCE and FIT.Identifying polyps or colorectal cancer resulted in a positive CCE.Significant lesions(≥3 polyps or≥6 mm polyps),incomplete studies and positive FITs(≥225 ng/mL)were referred for endoscopy.CCE and endoscopy results,FIT accuracy and patient preference were assessed.RESULTS From a total of 126 CCEs[mean age 64(31-80),67(53.2%)males),70.6%(89/126)were excreted,86.5%(109/126)had adequate image quality.CCE positivity was 70.6%(89/126),42.9%(54/126)having significant polyps with 63.5%(80/126)referred for endoscopy(19 sigmoidoscopies,61 colonoscopies).CCE reduced endoscopy need by 36.5%(46/126)and 51.6%(65/126)were spared a colonoscopy.CCE positive predictive value was 88.2%(45/51).Significant extracolonic findings were reported in 3.2%(4/126).Patients with positive CCEs were older>65[odds ratio(OR)=2.5,95%confidence interval(CI):1.1517-5.5787,P=0.0159],with personal history of polyps(OR=2.3,95%CI:0.9734-5.4066,P=0.045),with high/intermediate polyp surveillance risk(OR=5.4,95%CI:1.1979-24.3824,P=0.0156).Overall,5/114(4.4%)FITs were positive(range:0-1394 ng/mL,mean:54 ng/mL).Sensitivity(9.6%)and negative predictive values(20.3%)were inadequate.Receiver operating curve analysis gave a sensitivity and specificity of 26.9%and 91.7%,for FIT of 43 ng/mL.Patients preferred CCE 63.3%(76/120),with less impact on daily activities(21.7%vs 93.2%)and time off work(average days 0.9 vs 1.2,P=0.0201).CONCLUSION CCE appears effective in low-risk polyp surveillance.FIT does not appear to be of benefit in surveillance. 展开更多

Wireless capsule endoscopy(WCE)has the potential to fully replace conventional wired counterparts for its low invasiveness.Recent studies have attempted to expand the functions of capsules toward this goal.However,limitations in space and energy supply have resulted in the inability to perform multiple diagnostic and treatment tasks using a single capsule.In this study,we developed a dual-functional capsule robot(DFCR)for drug delivery and tissue biopsy based on magnetic torsion spring technology.The delivery module was shown to rotate the push rod with a thrust of 894 mN to release approximately 0.3 mL of semisolid drug.The biopsy module used a built-in blade to cut tissue with a shear stress of 22.87 MPa,producing a sample of approximately 1.8 mm3.Additionally,a five-degree-of-freedom permanent magnet drive system was developed.By adjusting the strength of the unidirectional magnetic field generated by an external magnet,the capsule can be wirelessly controlled to sequentially trigger the two functions.Ex vivo tests on porcine stomachs confirmed the feasibility of the prototype capsule(12 mm in diameter and 45 mm in length)in active movement,medication,and tissue biopsy.The newly developed DFCR further expands the clinical application prospects of WCE robots in minimally invasive surgery. 展开更多

Preparation and sustained release performance of multi-core capsules based on fragrance-loaded Pickering emulsions

Naturally degradable capsule provides a platform for sustained fragrance release.However,practical challenges such as low encapsulation efficiency and difficulty in sustained release are still limited in using fragranceloaded capsules.In this work,the natural materials sodium alginate and gelatine are dissolved and act as the aqueous phase,lavender is dissolved in caprylic/capric triglyceride(GTCC)as the oil phase,and SiO_(2) nanoparticles with neutralwettability as a solid emulsifier to form O/W Pickering emulsions simultaneously.Finally,multi-core capsules are prepared using the drop injection method with emulsions as templates.The results show that the capsules have been successfully prepared with a spherical morphology and multi-core structure,and the encapsulation rate of multi-core capsules can reach up to 99.6%.In addition,the multi-core capsules possess desirable sustained release performance,the cumulative sustained release rate of fragrance at 25℃over 49 days is only 32.5%.It is attributed to the significant protection of multi-core structure,Pickering emulsion nanoparticle membranes,and hydrogel network shell for encapsulated fragrance.This study is designed to deliver a new strategy for using sustained-release technology with fragrance in food,cosmetics,textiles,and other fields. 展开更多

Classification of pediatric video capsule endoscopy images for small bowel abnormalities using deep learning models

BACKGROUND Video capsule endoscopy(VCE)is a noninvasive technique used to examine small bowel abnormalities in both adults and children.However,manual review of VCE images is time-consuming and labor-intensive,making it crucial to develop deep learning methods to assist in image analysis.AIM To employ deep learning models for the automatic classification of small bowel lesions using pediatric VCE images.METHODS We retrospectively analyzed VCE images from 162 pediatric patients who underwent VCE between January 2021 and December 2023 at the Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University.A total of 2298 high-resolution images were extracted,including normal mucosa and lesions(erosions/erythema,ulcers,and polyps).The images were split into training and test datasets in a 4:1 ratio.Four deep learning models:DenseNet121,Visual geometry group-16,ResNet50,and vision transformer were trained using 5-fold cross-validation,with hyperparameters adjusted for optimal classification performance.The models were evaluated based on accuracy,precision,recall,F1-score,and area under the receiver operating curve(AU-ROC).Lesion visualization was performed using gradient-weighted class activation mapping.RESULTS Abdominal pain was the most common indication for VCE,accounting for 62%of cases,followed by diarrhea,vomiting,and gastrointestinal bleeding.Abnormal lesions were detected in 93 children,with 38 diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease.Among the deep learning models,DenseNet121 and ResNet50 demonstrated excellent classification performance,achieving accuracies of 90.6%[95%confidence interval(CI):89.2-92.0]and 90.5%(95%CI:89.9-91.2),respectively.The AU-ROC values for these models were 93.7%(95%CI:92.9-94.5)for DenseNet121 and 93.4%(95%CI:93.1-93.8)for ResNet50.CONCLUSION Our deep learning-based diagnostic tool developed in this study effectively classified lesions in pediatric VCE images,contributing to more accurate diagnoses and increased diagnostic efficiency. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the mechanism of action of Zangjiangzhi capsule(ZJZC)in treating hyperlipidemia(HLP).Methods:The components of ZJZC were analyzed and identified using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with Q-Exactive Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry(UHPLC-Q-Exactive-Orbitrap-MS/MS).Network pharmacology analysis was used to explore the mechanism of action of ZJZC in HLP treatment.The SwissTargetPrediction database was used to predict compound targets,and GeneCards,DisGeNet,OMIM,and DRUGBANK databases were used to identify HLP-related targets.Proteineprotein interaction diagrams were constructed using the STRING database.The targets were subjected to gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)enrichment analysis.The“herbingredient-target”network was visualized using Cytoscape.Preliminary validation was performed using molecular docking and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results:Ninety compounds were identified in ZJZC,including 34 flavonoids,12 phenols,10 terpenoids,10 alkaloids,8 organic acids,8 anthraquinones,and 9 other compounds.In total,904 targets were identified for these compounds.Among them,158 targets intersected with the HLP target network.Network pharmacology analysis showed that MAPK1,PPAR-a,RXRA,HSP90AA1,PIK3R1,AKT1,PIK3CA,IL6,TNF,and ESR1 are the key targets of action.KEGG enrichment analysis identified 164 pathways.Among these,the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications,lipid and atherosclerosis pathways,regulation of lipids in adipocytes,and insulin resistance are related to HLP.Molecular docking showed good affinity between the key targets and ingredients.Further,ZJZC treatment in mice resulted in lower expression of MAPK1 protein and increased expression of PPAR-a protein,which have been shown to be strongly associated with HLP.Conclusions:This study showed that ZJZC contains various active ingredients and can modulate multiple targets and pathways associated with HLP,providing evidence at the molecular level for its clinical application in the treatment of HLP. 展开更多

Environmentally friendly slow-release fertilizers are highly desired in sustainable agriculture.Encapsulating fertilizers can routinely achieve controlled releasing performances but suffers from short-term effectiveness or environmental unfriendliness.In this work,a bio-derived shellac incorporated with polydodecyl trimethoxysilane(SL-PDTMS)capsule was developed for long-term controlled releasing urea.Due to enhanced hydrophobicity and thus water resistance,the SL-PDTMS encapsulated urea fertilizer(SPEU)demonstrated a long-term effectiveness of 60 d,compared with SL encapsulated urea fertilizer(SEU,30 d)and pure urea fertilizer(U,5 min).In addition,SPEU showed a broad pH tolerance from 5.0 to 9.0,covering most various soil pH conditions.In the pot experiments,promoted growth of maize seedlings was observed after applying SPEU,rendering it promising as a high-performance controlled-released fertilizer. 展开更多

Deep learning-based localization and lesion detection in capsule endoscopy for patients with suspected small-bowel bleeding

BACKGROUND Small-bowel capsule endoscopy(SBCE)is widely used to evaluate obscure gastrointestinal bleeding;however,its interpretation is time-consuming and reader-dependent.Although artificial intelligence(AI)has emerged to address these limitations,few models simultaneously perform small-bowel(SB)loca lization and abnormality detection.AIMTo develop an AI model that automatically distinguishes the SB from the stomach and colon and diagnoses SBabnormalities.METHODSWe developed an AI model using 87005 CE images (11925, 33781, and 41299 from the stomach, SB, and colon,respectively) for SB localization and 28405 SBCE images (1337 erosions/ulcers, 126 angiodysplasia, 494 bleeding,and 26448 normal) for abnormality detection. The diagnostic performances of AI-assisted reading and conventionalreading were compared using 32 SBCE videos in patients with suspicious SB bleeding.RESULTSRegarding organ localization, the AI model achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC) and accuracy exceeding 0.99 and 97%, respectively. For SB abnormality detection, the performance was asfollows: Erosion/ulcer: 99.4% accuracy (AUC, 0.98);angiodysplasia: 99.8% accuracy (AUC, 0.99);bleeding: 99.9%accuracy (AUC, 0.99);normal: 99.3% accuracy (AUC, 0.98). In external validation, AI-assisted reading (8.7 minutes)was significantly faster than conventional reading (53.9 minutes;P < 0.001). The SB localization accuracies (88.6% vs72.7%, P = 0.07) and SB abnormality detection rates (77.3% vs 77.3%, P = 1.00) of the conventional reading and AIassistedreading were comparable.CONCLUSIONOur AI model decreased SBCE reading time and achieved performance comparable to that of experiencedendoscopists, suggesting that AI integration into SBCE reading enables efficient and reliable SB abnormalitydetection. 展开更多

Background:To evaluate the feasibility and safety of a novel cable-transmitted magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy(CTMCE)system for upper gastrointestinal examination.Methods:Twenty-six participants(19 healthy volunteers and seven patients with gastrointestinal symptoms)willing to undergo upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were recruited.Each participant underwent CT-MCE followed by conventional gastroscopy within 24 h.Maneuverability and visibility of the CT-MCE capsule in the upper gastrointestinal tract,adverse events,and discomfort during the procedure were evaluated.The sensitivity and specificity of CT-MCE for diagnosing upper gastrointestinal lesions were evaluated using conventional gastroscopy findings as the standard.Results:Maneuverability was graded as“good”for all segments of the esophagus.The percentage of participants in which maneuverability was good according to gastric region was as follows:cardia(100.00%),pylorus(96.15%),angulus(92.31%),antrum(88.46%),fundus(84.62%),and body(73.08%).In the duodenal bulb and descending duodenum,it was good in only 20.83% and 16.67% of participants,respectively.Visibility was graded as“excellent”or“good”in the esophagus,Z line,and duodenal bulb in all participants;excellent/good visibility was achieved in the stomach and descending duodenum in 96.15% and 79.17% of participants,respectively.Forty-one lesions were detected overall.The sensitivity and specificity of CT-MCE in diagnosing upper gastrointestinal lesions were 85.00% and 98.15%,respectively.The CT-MCE capsule was successfully removed through the mouth in all participants.No serious adverse events or capsule retention occurred.Conclusions:CT-MCE showed good feasibility and safety for upper gastrointestinal examination.The system was effective in examining the esophagus and stomach with no risk of capsule retention. 展开更多

Institution Attribute Mining Technology for Access Control Based on Hybrid Capsule Network

Security attributes are the premise and foundation for implementing Attribute-Based Access Control(ABAC)mechanisms.However,when dealing with massive volumes of unstructured text big data resources,the current attribute management methods based on manual extraction face several issues,such as high costs for attribute extraction,long processing times,unstable accuracy,and poor scalability.To address these problems,this paper proposes an attribute mining technology for access control institutions based on hybrid capsule networks.This technology leverages transfer learning ideas,utilizing Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers(BERT)pre-trained language models to achieve vectorization of unstructured text data resources.Furthermore,we have designed a novel end-to-end parallel hybrid network structure,where the parallel networks handle global and local information features of the text that they excel at,respectively.By employing techniques such as attention mechanisms,capsule networks,and dynamic routing,effective mining of security attributes for access control resources has been achieved.Finally,we evaluated the performance level of the proposed attribute mining method for access control institutions through experiments on the medical referral text resource dataset.The experimental results show that,compared with baseline algorithms,our method adopts a parallel network structure that can better balance global and local feature information,resulting in improved overall performance.Specifically,it achieves a comprehensive performance enhancement of 2.06%to 8.18%in the F1 score metric.Therefore,this technology can effectively provide attribute support for access control of unstructured text big data resources. 展开更多

To evaluate the subchronic and chronic toxicity of Fuyanxiao capsules,Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats were used in toxicity studies.In the subchronic toxicity study,50 female rats were randomly divided into a high-dose group(5.4g/kg/day)and a control group,with 15 rats in each,and medium(2.7g/kg/day)and low(1.35g/kg/day)dose groups,with 10 rats in each.The test substance was administered orally(mixed with feed,twice daily)for 90 consecutive days.In the chronic toxicity study,40 female rats were randomly divided into high,medium,and low dose groups and a control group,with 10 rats in each.The test substance was administered orally in the same manner for 180 consecutive days.Clinical signs,body weight,and food consumption were observed and recorded daily.At the end of the terminal phase(the first 10 rats from each group,1 day after the last dose)and the recovery phase(the last 5 rats from the control group and the high-dose group,observed for an additional 28 days after the last dose),blood and urine samples,as well as organs,were collected.Organ coefficients were calculated,and various hematological and urinary indicators were detected,followed by pathological analysis.The results showed that there were no significant differences in body weight,food consumption,or organ coefficients between any of the dose groups and the control group in both subchronic and chronic toxicity studies(P>0.05).Histopathological examination revealed no lesions,suggesting no tissue or organ damage in any of the dose groups.The rats exhibited good mental status,and hematological and urinary physiological indicators were within normal ranges,indicating stable liver and kidney function,hematopoietic system of the bone marrow,and internal environment in all dose groups.Therefore,Fuyanxiao capsule has no obvious subchronic or chronic toxicity in SD rats,and it is safe and reliable to use at reasonable dosage in clinical practice. 展开更多

In order to solve the problem that the star point positioning accuracy of the star sensor in near space is decreased due to atmospheric background stray light and rapid maneuvering of platform, this paper proposes a star point positioning algorithm based on the capsule network whose input and output are both vectors. First, a PCTL (Probability-Coordinate Transformation Layer) is designed to represent the mapping relationship between the probability output of the capsule network and the star point sub-pixel coordinates. Then, Coordconv Layer is introduced to implement explicit encoding of space information and the probability is used as the centroid weight to achieve the conversion between probability and star point sub-pixel coordinates, which improves the network’s ability to perceive star point positions. Finally, based on the dynamic imaging principle of star sensors and the characteristics of near-space environment, a star map dataset for algorithm training and testing is constructed. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the MAE (Mean Absolute Error) and RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of the star point positioning by 36.1% and 41.7% respectively compared with the traditional algorithm. The research results can provide important theory and technical support for the scheme design, index demonstration, test and evaluation of large dynamic star sensors in near space. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Diabetic kidney disease(DKD),a common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus,is the primary cause of end-stage renal disease.Tongxinluo capsule(TXLC),a traditional Chinese medicinal compound,is widely utilized in China for treating DKD.AIM To analyze the effectiveness and safety of TXLC for treating DKD.METHODS Eight electronic literature databases were retrieved to obtain randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of TXLC for DKD.RevMan 5.3 software was used for data analysis.Evidence quality was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development,and Evaluation System.Publication bias was detected using Stata 16.0 software.RESULTS Twenty-two RCTs involving 1941 patients with DKD were identified.Compared with conventional treatment,TXLC combination therapy significantly improved the primary outcomes,including 24-hour urine proteinuria,urine microalbumin,and urinary albumin excretion rate.Regarding secondary outcomes,TXLC combination therapy significantly reduced serum creatinine,blood urea nitrogen,β2-microglobulin,and cystatin C levels;however,it had no significant effect on creatinine clearance rate.In terms of additional outcomes,TXLC combination therapy significantly reduced total cholesterol,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,fibrinogen,plasma viscosity,whole blood low shear viscosity,whole blood high shear viscosity,and endothelin-1 levels,while increasing nitric oxide levels.However,the addition of TXLC treatment did not significantly affect fasting plasma glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose,glycosylated hemoglobin,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,or C-reactive protein levels.The safety of TXLC in DKD remains uncertain due to limited adverse event reporting.CONCLUSION TXLC may benefit individuals with DKD by improving various health parameters,such as urinary protein levels,renal function,blood lipids,hemorheology,and vascular endothelial function.However,TXLC did not improve all studied outcomes. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To explore the potential molecular mechanism of Qigu capsule(芪骨胶囊,QGC) in the treatment of sarcopenia through network pharmacology and to verify it experimentally.METHODS:The active compounds of QGC and common targets between QGC and sarcopenia were screened from databases.Then the herbs-compounds-targets network,and protein-protein interaction(PPI) network was constructed.Gene ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were performed by R software.Next,we used a dexamethasone-induced sarcopenia mouse model to evaluate the anti-sarcopenic mechanism of QGC.RESULTS:A total of 57 common targets of QGC and sarcopenia were obtained.Based on the enrichment analysis of GO and KEGG,we took the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt) signaling pathway as a key target to explore the mechanism of QGC on sarcopenia.Animal experiments showed that QGC could increase muscle strength and inhibit muscle fiber atrophy.In the model group,the expression of muscle ring finger-1 and Atrogin-1 were increased,while myosin heavy chain was decreased,QGC treatment reversed these changes.Moreover,compared with the model group,the expressions of pPI3K,p-Akt,p-mammalian target of rapamycin and pForkhead box O3 in the QGC group were all upregulated.CONCLUSION:QGC exerts an anti-sarcopenic effect by activating PI3K/Akt signaling pathway to regulate skeletal muscle protein metabolism. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The clinical effectiveness of magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy(MCE)is well established.However,problems,such as abdominal distension,insufficient gastric filling,and prolonged gastric retention time,persist with MCE gastric preparations.AIM To compare gastric filling using a carbonated soft drink with that using pure water during MCE.METHODS We performed an open-label randomised controlled trial at the Endoscopy Centre of Changhai Hospital in Shanghai.Patients aged 18-80 years,with or without gastrointestinal symptoms,scheduled for MCE were consecutively recruited.Those who provided informed consent were randomly assigned to the carbonated soft drink group(C group)or water group(W group)in a 1:1 ratio.For patients in the W group,1000 mL of water was ingested to distend the stomach,whereas for patients in the C group,550 mL of carbonated soft drink was provided,and patients were required to drink quickly while minimising burping.The primary endpoint was the number of patients with a gastric filling score of≥4 within 5 minutes after the capsule entered the stomach.RESULTS From December 3,2020 to May 17,2021,252 patients(141 men),aged 18-77 years,were assigned to the C(n=126)and W(n=126)groups.For the primary outcome,123 patients in the C group achieved a gastric filling score of≥4(97.62%vs 80.16%,P<0.0001).More patients in the C group had the highest gastric filling scores within the first 5 min(78.57%vs 29.37%,P<0.0001)and 10 minutes(54.76%vs 13.49%,P<0.0001)after the capsule entered the stomach.More patients in the W group required extra liquid for gastric refilling(1.59%vs 16.67%,P<0.0001).Transpyloric passage of the capsule under magnetic control was successfully performed in 43 patients in the C group(P<0.0001),accompanied by a shorter gastric transit time(53.27±53.83 minutes vs 71.12±52.19 minutes,P=0.001).CONCLUSION Carbonated soft drinks demonstrated superior and more sustained gastric filling compared with those of water alone,with the potential to promote gastric emptying. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To explore the potential molecular mechanism of Qigu capsule(芪骨胶囊,QGC)improve the functional performance of skeletal muscle.METHODS:The primary components of QGC were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).Muscle dysfunction was established in male C57BL/6 mice treated with dexamethasone(1 mg/kg body weight,i.p.,six weeks).Rotarod test,mitochondrial ultrastructure,respiratory chain complex V activity,succinate dehydrogenase(SDH)activity,adenosine triphosphate(ATP)content,and reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels were assessed.The mitochondrial biogenesis-related protein expressions were analyzed using Western blot or polymerase chain reaction(PCR).RESULTS:QGC treatment enhanced Rotarod test performance.Additionally,QGC significantly alleviated dexamethasone-induced mitochondrial damage,reduced mitochondrial swelling,increased respiratory chain complex enzyme activity,SDH activity,ATP content,and decreased ROS levels.PCR and western blot results revealed that QGC enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis via adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γcoactivator 1-alpha(PGC-1α)signaling pathway.CONCLUSIONS:QGC ameliorates dexamethasoneinduced skeletal muscle dysfunction by activating AMPK/PGC-1α,which might be developed as a therapeutic agent for treating age-related muscle weakness. 展开更多

Acrucial aspect of small bowel capsule endoscope performance is the timing of theprocedure, the interval between the bleeding episode and capsule ingestion isinversely related to the diagnostic yield as confirmed by a recent meta-analysis.Currently the ongoing advances achieved by video CE in particular to evaluateboth small bowel and colon in a single test using double headed capsules, raisesquestions regarding the position of pan intestinal capsule in the current algorithmto investigate patients presenting with suspected MLGIB ahead of colonoscopy.Early evidence suggests pan intestinal capsule could fit well as a diagnostic“filter” test in this cohort of patients, thereby reserving invasive conventionalcolonoscopy or device assisted enteroscopy as therapeutics options only. The recentdevelopment of magnetically controlled CE and a blood sensing capsule pushthe boundaries of CE even further in patients presenting with suspected gastrointestinalbleeding. There is still a dearth of systematic study on picture stitching techniques for the natural tubular structures of intestines,and traditional stitching techniques have a poor application to endoscopic images with deep scenes.In order to recreate the intestinal wall in two dimensions,a method is developed.The normalized Laplacian algorithm is used to enhance the image and transform it into polar coordinates according to the characteristics that intestinal images are not obvious and usually arranged in a circle,in order to extract the new image segments of the current image relative to the previous image.The improved weighted fusion algorithm is then used to sequentially splice the segment images.The experimental results demonstrate that the suggested approach can improve image clarity and minimize noise while maintaining the information content of intestinal images.In addition,the method's seamless transition between the final portions of a panoramic image also demonstrates that the stitching trace has been removed. 展开更多
