This study examines the educational potential of Chinese contemporary dance in bridging the gap between Chinese audiences and physical education.Drawing on academic discussions surrounding contemporary dance definitions, the argument firstly emphasise that the feature of contemporary dance could be viewed as critical practices embodying the nature of rhizome in their respective specific time-space contexts.By combining Karen Barad's concept of diffraction, the argument further interprets rhizomatic choreography as a non-normative approach to generating new knowledge through the "entanglement of body and meaning",termed Body-based Diffractive Learning. In the third part,by contextualising TAO Dance Theater and related works from Chinese contemporary dance artists, this study provides a concrete illustration of how contemporary dance serves as a transformative medium for embodied engagement, revealing a sense of rhizomatic dance and its diffractive learning.Contemporary dance transcends binaries such as East-West and mainstream-alternative and belongs to both human and non-human bodies. While there is still untapped potential for public engagement, contemporary dance communities in China act as catalysts for reshaping aesthetic norms and promoting physical awareness among the populace. 展开更多
