Real-Time Deepfake Detection via Gaze and Blink Patterns:A Transformer Framework

Recent advances in artificial intelligence and the availability of large-scale benchmarks have made deepfake video generation and manipulation easier.Therefore,developing reliable and robust deepfake video detection mechanisms is paramount.This research introduces a novel real-time deepfake video detection framework by analyzing gaze and blink patterns,addressing the spatial-temporal challenges unique to gaze and blink anomalies using the TimeSformer and hybrid Transformer-CNN models.The TimeSformer architecture leverages spatial-temporal attention mechanisms to capture fine-grained blinking intervals and gaze direction anomalies.Compared to state-of-the-art traditional convolutional models like MesoNet and EfficientNet,which primarily focus on global facial features,our approach emphasizes localized eye-region analysis,significantly enhancing detection accuracy.We evaluate our framework on four standard datasets:FaceForensics,CelebDF-V2,DFDC,and FakeAVCeleb.The proposed framework results reveal higher accuracy,with the TimeSformer model achieving accuracies of 97.5%,96.3%,95.8%,and 97.1%,and with the hybrid Transformer-CNN model demonstrating accuracies of 92.8%,91.5%,90.9%,and 93.2%,on FaceForensics,CelebDF-V2,DFDC,and FakeAVCeleb datasets,respectively,showing robustness in distinguishing manipulated from authentic videos.Our research provides a robust state-of-the-art framework for real-time deepfake video detection.This novel study significantly contributes to video forensics,presenting scalable and accurate real-world application solutions. 展开更多

The pain-evoked potential electroencephalogram(EEG)is an effective electrophysiological indicator for pain assessment,yet its extraction is challenging due to interference from background activity and involuntary blinks.Although existing blink artifact-removal methods show efficacy,they face limitations such as the need for reference signals,neglect of individual differences,and reliance on user input,hindering their practical application in clinical pain assessments.In this paper,we propose a novel framework applying adaptive quadrature mirror filter banks(AQMFB)with discrete wavelet transform(DWT)to remove blink artifacts in pain EEG.Unlike traditional DWT methods that apply fixed wavelets across subjects,our method adapts wavelet construction based on the characteristics of EEG.Experimental results demonstrate that AQMFB-DWT outperforms four leading methods in removing blink artifacts with minimal distortion of pain information,all within an acceptable processing time.This technique is a valuable preprocessing step for enhancing the extraction of pain-evoked potentials. 展开更多

AIM:To investigate the association between tear film break up time(TBUT)and blinking interval in visual display terminal(VDT)users.METHODS:Nine hundred and thirty VDT users underwent dry eye testing,and functional visual acuity(FVA)test.The blinking interval during FVA was compared with TBUT.Subjects with longer blinking interval than TBUT were considered as unstable tear film.Logistic regression analysis revealed the risk factors for unstable tear group.RESULTS:Among 930 workers,858 subjects(92.3%)participated in this study.Almost 80% of the subjects were categorized into the unstable tear group.Unstable tear group has significantly lower Schirmer values and TBUT(17.5±11.6 vs 21.1±11.5 mm,3.7±2.6 vs 5.7±2.7s,both P〈0.001).There were no significant differences in epithelial staining or severity of symptoms.Logistic regression showed that over 40y was a risk for being unstable tear group[odds ratio(OR)=1.53;95%confidence interval(CI)=1.06-2.20].Contact lens use was protective factor for being in the unstable tear group(OR=0.37;95%CI=0.26-0.53).CONCLUSION:Subjects with shorter TBUT than blinking interval are prevalent among VDT users.Subjects over the age of 40 shows an increased risk for unstable tear film. 展开更多

AIM:To investigate the relationship between dynamic tear meniscus parameters and dry eye using an automated tear meniscus segmentation method.METHODS:The analysis of tear meniscus videos captured within 5s after a complete blink includes data from 38 participates.By processing video data,several key parameters including the average height of the tear meniscus at different lengths,the curvature of the tear meniscus’s upper boundary,and the total area of the tear meniscus in each frame were calculated.The effective values of these dynamic parameters were then linearly fitted to explore the relationship between their changing trends and dry eye disease.RESULTS:In 94.74%of the samples,the average height of central tear meniscus increased over time.Moreover,97.37%of the samples exhibited an increase in the overall tear meniscus height(TMH)and area from the nasal to temporal side.Notably,the central TMH increased at a faster rate compared to the nasal side with the temporal side showing the slowest ascent.Statistical analysis indicates that the upper boundary curvature of the whole tear meniscus as well as the tear meniscus of the nasal side(2,3,and 4 mm)aid in identifying the presence of dry eye and assessing its severity.CONCLUSION:This study contributes to the understanding of tear meniscus dynamics as potential markers for dry eye,utilizing an automated and non-invasive approach that has implications for clinical assessment. 展开更多

Super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging is dependent on the blinking frequency of fluorophores.Consequently,improvement of the photoluminescence(PL)blink frequency is important.This is achieved for 3C–SiC nanocrystals(NCs)by simply increasing the excitation power.Using an excitation of 488 nm with powers of 5μW to 50μW,individual 3C–SiC NC always exhibits PL blinking with a short on-state sojourn time(<0.1 s).A fast Fourier transform method is exploited to determine the PL switching frequency.It is found that the frequency of the bright state increases from 2 Hz to 20 Hz as the excitation power increases from 5μW to 50μW,which is explained by the Auger photonionization model. 展开更多

Values of blink reflex and electroneurography in diagnosis of facial paralysis

BACKGROUND: The electrophysiological test was mainly achieved by the reaction of nerve fiber to electrical stimulus, usually expressed by the amplitude and latency. Blink reflex and electroneurography (ENOG) are widely applied in facial paralysis, the amplitude would step down, and the latency would prolong when the facial nerve was injured. OBJECTIVE: To compare the value of blink reflex and ENOG in the diagnosis of facial paralysis (Bell's palsy). DESIGN: A controlled trial. SETTINGS: Affiliated Hospital, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; West China Hospital of Sichuan University; Mianyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Sichuan People's Hospital. PARTICIPANTS: The patients who had finished the tests of blink reflex (n =207) and ENOG (n =205) were selected from the Affiliated Hospital, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; West China Hospital of Sichuan University; Mianyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Sichuan People's Hospital from September 2001 to July 2003. After treatment for 4 weeks, the patients finished tests of blink reflex (n =207) and ENOG (n =205) were randomly divided into primary treatment group (n =68, 69), acupuncture group (n =71, 66) and comprehensive treatment group (n =68, 70), respectively. Approval was obtained from the ethic committee of hospital. METHODS: Patients in the primary treatment group and acupuncture group were treated with western medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion alone respectively, and those in the comprehensive treatment group were treated with acupuncture and moxibustion based on western medicine. The whole period of treatment was 4 weeks. The tests of blink reflex and ENOG were carried out using Japanese light and electricity MEB-2200 electromyogram/induced potential instrument for once before and after treatment respectively. The normal value of the latency period of wave RI was within 13 ms, and the difference was 1 - 1.2 ms between the left and right sides. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The latency of wave RI of blink reflect and the latency and wave amplitude of ENOG on the affected and healthy sides before and after treatment were observed. RESULTS: Totally 207 and 205 patients received tests of blink reflex and ENOG, but 17 and 16 cases respectively did not finish the second measurement, finally 190 and 189 cases were involved in the analysis of results. The latencies of wave R 1 on the affected side after treatment were significantly longer than those before treatment (t = - 6.253, P 〈 0.01); The latencies of wave RI on the normal side were in the normal range before and after treatment; The latencies of wave RI before treatment on the affected side was significantly longer than that on the normal side (t =- 5.896, P 〈 0.01), but there were no significant differences between the affected and normal sides after treatment (P 〉 0.05). It was indicated that the latencies of wave RI on the affected side had restored normally, and the blink reflex was improved obviously after treatment. The latency of ENOG on the affected side before treatment was significantly prolonged as compared with that on the normal side (t =2.247, P 〈 0.01); After treatment, the difference between the affected and normal side became smaller, but remarkable significance still existed (t =10.810, P 〈 0.01). In spite of the obvious improvement of affected side before and after treatment, there were still significant differences (t =- 8.110, P 〈 0.05). The wave amplitude on the affected side was decreased after treatment, which was not significantly different from that before treatment (P 〉0.05). CONCLUSION: After treatment of facial paralysis, blink reflect was greatly improved, there was an obvious hysteresis in the latency of ENOG. Therefore, blink reflect was better than ENOG in the early diagnosis, while ENOG was suitable for evaluating the prognosis. In this study, we propose that eye blinking is also elicited by taste stimuli and we examined eye blink responses in six healthy young adults. Low and high concentration solutions of the four basic taste qualities (sweetness, saltiness, sourness, and bitterness) and distilled water were delivered via a silicone tube. Facial responses were recorded by a video camera and eye blink responses were identified. The number of eye blinks in the 5 s following stimulation, and the latency and duration of the first eye blink, were quantified. BACKGROUND Blink and masseter reflexes provide reliable,quantifiable data on the function of the central nervous system:Delayed latencies have been found in patients with neurocognitive disorder(ND)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),but this has not been studied in patients with both pathologies.AIM To investigate if older adults with ND plus T2DM have prolonged latencies of blink and masseter-reflex and if they were associated with disease progression.METHODS This cross-sectional study included 227 older adults(>60 years)from Colima,Mexico.Neurocognitive disorder was identified by a neuropsychological battery test,and T2DM identified by medical history,fasting glucose,and glycosylated hemoglobin.Latencies in the early reflex(R1),ipsilateral late(R2),and contralateral late(R2c)components of the blink reflex were analyzed for all subjects,and 183 subjects were analyzed for latency of the masseter reflex.RESULTS In 20.7%of participants,ND was detected.In 37%,T2DM was detected.Latencies in R1,R2,and R2c were significantly prolonged for groups with ND plus T2DM,ND,and T2DM,compared with the control group(P<0.0001).The masseter reflex was only prolonged in older adults(regardless of T2DM status)with ND vs controls(P=0.030).In older adults with ND and without T2DM,the more the cognitive impairment progressed,the more prolonged latencies in R2 and R2c presented(P<0.01).CONCLUSION These findings suggest that blink and masseter reflexes could be used to evaluate possible changes in brainstem circuits in older adults with ND and T2DM. 展开更多

The advent and extensive use of computer and increasing development of different technologies it is important to increase the awareness of issues related to the electronic text or text presentation on computer screen. The usage of web shows the importance of usability and readability of the web applications or sources provide by the web and web textual contents. Web application fails to encounter the user’s requirements in effective manner specially related to textual information, because the designers are unaware from some of the important factors effecting readability, reading from the screen. In this regard, this study is the continuation of the previous work that has been done for the improvement of readability, to handle the readability issues on the basis of Eye Blink for male participants and female participants. To achieve general recommendations for suitable or optimum length of text line for all type of users on the bases of eye blink. Basically during reading from the computer screen focus losses at two positions, when eye blink in the middle of text line and when text line ends. The study specifies suitable length of text line on the basis of Eye Blink, assuming three typographical variables i.e. font style, font color, font size, and with white background, which improve the overall readability or reading from computer screen. The study also shows two important things the degree of understandability and the degree of attractive appearance of different combination. 展开更多
