As a new mode of shared mobility, the sharing bicycle offers a variety of options for the daily travel of urban residents. Extant studies have mainly examined the travel characteristics and influencing factors of public bicycles with piles, while the travel patterns for sharing bicycles and their driving mechanisms have been largely ignored. Using one week’s travel data for Mobike, this study investigated the spatial and temporal distribution patterns of sharing bicycle travel behaviours in the central urban area of Guangzhou, China;furthermore, it identified the influences of built environment density factors on sharing bicycle travel behaviours based on the geographically weighted regression method. Obvious morning and evening peaks were observed in the sharing bicycle travel patterns for both weekdays and weekends. The old urban area, which had a high degree of mixed function, dense road networks, and cycling-friendly built environments, was the main travel area that attracted sharing bicycles on both weekdays and weekends. Furthermore, factors including the point of interest(POI) for the density of public transport stations, the functional mixing degree, and the density of residential POIs significantly affected residents’ travel behaviours. These findings could enrich discourse regarding shared mobility with a Chinese case characterised by rapidly developing MICTs and also provide references to local authorities for improving slow traffic environments.展开更多

Firstly, the fatigue comfort of these two kinds of bicycles was evaluated by surface electromyographic signal (sEMG) experiment, in which human lower limb muscle groups were research objects, and the average EMG (AEMG) index and median frequency (MF) were chosen as the evaluation indexes. Secondly, the safety of these two kinds of bicycle frames was analyzed and compared by using the finite element analysis. The results show that the riding fatigue comfort of the Japanese postal bicycle is better, and the Japanese postal bicycle frame is more safe and reasonable although both the postal bicycles meet the requirement for strength. Finally, based on the above analysis, the frame structure and related parameters of the domestic postal bicycle were improved with reference to the Japanese postal bicycle and biomechanics theory.展开更多

In this case, pedestrians and bikes (ped/bike) are encountered unsmooth and hazardous crossings when right-turn vehicles encroaching their lanes. Meanwhile, this also causes conflicts between right-turn and through vehicles at the crossing street. To better protect ped/bike at crossings with right-turn vehicles, this paper proposes a concept of “right-turn vehicle box” (RTVB) as a supplemental treatment within right-turn lanes. Sight distance, geometric conditions, and behaviors of vehicles and ped/bike are key factors to consider so as to set up the criteria and to design the suitable treatment. A case study was conducted at an intersection pair in Houston, USA to shape the idea of RTVB, together with driving simulator tests under relevant scenarios. The preliminary crosscheck examination shows that the right-turn vehicle box could possibly provide ped/ bike with smoother and safer crossings. In the interim, the safety and efficiency of right-turn operations were also improved. To further validate the effects, implementation studies should be conducted before the RTVB can make its debut in practice. This was part of a larger research effort to eliminate crashes (and the resulting fatalities and injuries) between bicycles and motorized vehicles. The data collection process produced 1151 observations with approximately 40 different independent variables for each data point through direct observation, sensor logging, or derivation from other independent variables. Prior research by the authors developed a means to collect real-time field data through the use of a bicycle-mounted data collection system. The collected data was then used to model lateral clearance distance be- tween vehicles and bicycles. The developed model confirmed field observations that the lateral clearance distance provided by drivers changes with vehicle speed and oncoming vehicle presence. These observations were presented by the authors previously. The model shows that driver behavior can be adjusted by the inclusion, or exclusion, of geometric elements. Evaluating roadways (or roadway designs) based on this model will enable stakeholders to identify those roadway segments where a paved shoulder would prove an effective safety countermeasure. This research will also enable roadway designers to better identify during the design phase those roadway segments that should be constructed with a paved shoulder.展开更多

These data were used to create a personalized predictive time algorithm, which was subsequently applied in an isochrone map format centered on OC. A 29% difference in the area within the 20-minute commuting time was estimated, suggesting that potential residential location choices made with inaccurate isochrone maps are inaccurate. A comparison with an isochron cycling map for Trinity College Dublin was made to emphasise differences in the impact/implications of this type of map in the promotion of sustainable transportation for a post-secondary institution. It is determined that these maps may misinform new community members as to areas of residential location choice.展开更多

文摘We investigated the effects of high-intensity intermittent cross-training(HIICT)on maximal oxygen uptake(VO_(2)max).The HIICT consisted of alternating intermittent 20-s treadmill running(1^(st),3^(rd),5^(th),and 7^(th) bouts)and 20-s bicycle exercise(2^(nd),4^(th),and 6^(th) bouts)with a 10-s rest period. Each intensity for running and bicycling of the HIICT corresponded to an oxygen demand of~160% and~170%of the VO_(2)max,respectively.Fifteen healthy young males(aged[24±1]yrs)were randomly assigned to training(TG,n?8)and non-training control(CG,n?7)groups.The TG completed this HIICT daily 4 days/week for 6 weeks.Significant group×time interactions were observed for both the running and bicycling VO_(2)max(p<0.001 each). After the training, the VO_(2)max for both running([57.4±4.8]mL·kg^(-1)·min^(-1))and bicycling([50.6±3.7]mL·kg^(-1)·min^(-1))in the TG were significantly higher than those for running([50.1±3.1]mL·kg^(-1)·min^(-1))and bicycling([43.7±3.6]mL·kg^(-1)·min^(-1))in the CG,respectively(p<0.01 each).Post-hoc tests revealed a significant increase in VO_(2)max for running and bicycling in the TG after the HIICT(p<0.001 each)but no significant difference in the CG.These results demonstrated that the newly developed HIICT increases the VO_(2)max for both running and bicycling.
文摘Identification of variables that influence differences between predicted and observed cycling times for one cyclist commuting to Okanagan College (OC) was performed using principal components analysis. It is determined that these maps may misinform new community members as to areas of residential location choice.
文摘CHINA.Bicycle Output.China’s bicycle production saw solid growth last year, increasing by 0.4 percent year on year to reach 99.54 million units, said Zheng Xiaoling, spokesperson for the China Bicycle Association.
文摘Designed and built by eight Dutch engineers, the worlds longest bicycle is 55.16 meters, roughly the same length as four double-decker buses.39-year-old Ivan Schalk had been thinking about building the world's longest bicycle since reading about it in The Guinness Book of Records when he was a child, but he only started this project in 2018,as a way to fill up his free time.
