In order to study the bending behavior of aluminum alloy 7050 thick plate during snake hot rolling, several coupled thermo-mechanical finite element(FE) models were established. Effects of different initial thicknesses, pass reductions, speed ratios and offset distances on the bending value of the plate were analyzed. ‘Quasi smooth plate' and optimum offset distance were defined and quasi smooth plate could be acquired by adjusting offset distance, and then bending control equation was fitted. The results show that bending value of the plate as well as the extent of the increase grows with the increase of pass reduction and decrease of initial thickness; the bending value firstly increases and then keeps steady with the ascending speed ratio; the bending value can be reduced by enlarging the offset distance. The optimum offset distance varies for different rolling parameters and it is augmented with the increase of pass reduction and speed ratio and the decrease of initial thickness. A proper offset distance for different rolling parameters can be calculated by the bending control equation and this equation can be a guidance to acquire a quasi smooth plate. The FEM results agree well with experimental results. 展开更多

The aim of this paper is to present finite element model of a filament-wound composite tube subjected to three-point bending and bending in accordance with standard EN?15807:2011?(railway applications-pneumatic half couplings) along with its experimental verification. In the finite element model, composite reinforcement plies have been characterized by linear orthotropic material model, while rubber liners have been described by a two-parameter MooneyRivlin model. Force-displacement curves of three-point bending show fairly good agreement between simulation results and experimental data. Reaction forces of FE simulation and experiment of standard bending test are in good agreement. 展开更多

Owing to the existence of distributed holes, it is difficult tosolve the bending problem of perforated plates by the conventionalfinite element method. A homogenization-based method for this problemis presented in this paper. As an example, the bending analysis of acircular perforated plate with distributed step-wise cylindricalholes is made. The deflection and the fundamental frequen- cyobtained by present method are in good agreement with experimentaldata, this implies that the method is effective. 展开更多

The bending and free vibrational behaviors of functionally graded(FG)cylindrical beams with radially and axially varying material inhomogeneities are investigated.Based on a high-order cylindrical beam model, where the shear deformation and rotary inertia are both considered, the two coupled governing differential motion equations for the deflection and rotation are established. The analytical bending solutions for various boundary conditions are derived. In the vibrational analysis of FG cylindrical beams, the two governing equations are firstly changed to a single equation by means of an auxiliary function, and then the vibration mode is expanded into shifted Chebyshev polynomials.Numerical examples are given to investigate the effects of the material gradient indices on the deflections, the stress distributions, and the eigenfrequencies of the cylindrical beams, respectively.By comparing the obtained numerical results with those obtained by the three-dimensional(3D)elasticity theory and the Timoshenko beam theory, the effectiveness of the present approach is verified. 展开更多

In this work, the finite element analysis of the elasto-plastic plate bending problems is carried out using transition rectangular plate elements. The shape functions of the transition plate elements are derived based on a practical rule. The transition plate elements are all quadrilateral and can be used to obtain efficient finite element models using minimum number of elements. The mesh convergence rates of the models including the transition elements are compared with the regular element models. To verify the developed elements, simple tests are demonstrated and various elasto-plastic problems are solved. Their results are compared with ANSYS results. 展开更多

At first, the dimensionless variables are used to transform the equilibrium equations of any layer to perturbation differential equations. Secondly, the composite expansion is used and the solution domain is divided into interior and boundary layer regions and the mathematical models for the outer solution and the inner solution are yielded respectively. Then, the inner solution is expressed with the boundary intergral equation. 展开更多

A mesh-free method is presented to investigate the static bending properties of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC)plates.The curvature of the plate is directly interpolated with the nodal deflections due to the higher-order continuity property of the moving leastsquares approximation, establishing a mesh-free computational scheme where the nodal deflections are the only unknowns. The convergence and efficiency of the proposed method are studied based on a homogeneous square plate. The FG-CNTRC plates are modeled with continuously varying Young’s moduli along the thickness direction according to the volume fraction of the carbon nanotubes(CNTs).Detailed studies have been conducted on the effects of different boundary conditions,CNT volume fractions, geometric shapes, and width-to-thickness ratios on bending behavior.CNT efficiency parameters are introduced to account for load transfer between the nanotubes and the matrix, treating the nanocomposites as orthotropic materials. However,in the actual structure, arranging the CNTs in the desired direction is more difficult compared to other fibers. Therefore,in the present study,CNTs in the composites are considered to be arranged randomly, resulting in the composite properties being treated as isotropic. The study includes second-order derivatives of deflections, and the finite element method typically requires C1 continuity for interpolation, which introduces challenges in building elements and constructing interpolation functions. The distinct advantage of the mesh-free method is that it requires only C0 weight functions.A mesh-free computational scheme based on moving leastsquares approximations for composite plates using Kirchhoffplate theory is established.Bending analyses of homogeneous and FG-CNTRC plates are conducted using the proposed method.Aspects such as boundary conditions,CNT volume fractions, geometric shapes, and width-to-thickness ratios are also discussed.Regular node arrangements and background meshes are adopted in the present study. Results are computed using different scalar parameters and numbers of nodes.Convergence properties for the central deflection of isotropic plates are analyzed in terms of the number of nodes and different scalar parameters. The normalized central deflection is defined and examined under various boundary conditions. 展开更多

A new wavelet finite element method(WFEM)is constructed in this paper and two elements for bending and free vibration problems of a stiffened plate are analyzed.By means of generalized potential energy function and virtual work principle, the formulations of the bending and free vibration problems of the stiffened plate are derived separately. Then, the scaling functions of the B-spline wavelet on the interval(BSWI)are introduced to discrete the solving field variables instead of conventional polynomial interpolation. Finally, the corresponding two problems can be resolved following the traditional finite element frame. There are some advantages of the constructed elements in structural analysis.Due to the excellent features of the wavelet, such as multi-scale and localization characteristics, and the excellent numerical approximation property of the BSWI,the precise and efficient analysis can be achieved.Besides, transformation matrix is used to translate the meaningless wavelet coefficients into physical space, thus the resolving process is simplified. In order to verify the superiority of the constructed method in stiffened plate analysis, several numerical examples are given in the end. 展开更多

This study focusses on establishing the finite element model based on a new hyperbolic sheareformation theory to investigate the static bending, free vibration, and buckling of the functionally graded sandwich plates with porosity. The novel sandwich plate consists of one homogenous ceramic core and two different functionally graded face sheets which can be widely applied in many fields of engineering and defence technology. The discrete governing equations of motion are carried out via Hamilton’s principle and finite element method. The computation program is coded in MATLAB software and used to study the mechanical behavior of the functionally graded sandwich plate with porosity. The present finite element algorithm can be employed to study the plates with arbitrary shape and boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with available results in the literature to confirm the reliability of the present algorithm. Also,a comprehensive investigation of the effects of several parameters on the bending, free vibration, and buckling response of functionally graded sandwich plates is presented. The numerical results shows that the distribution of porosity plays significant role on the mechanical behavior of the functionally graded sandwich plates。 展开更多

In situ formed low density O'-sialon-based multiphase ceramics were prepared by liquid-phase sintering method at 1400°C with Si3N4, SiO2 and Al2O3 as raw materials.Crystalline phases were identified by X-ray diffraction(XRD).The quantitative phase analysis was finished by matrix-flushing method and the substitution parameter x value of O'-sialon was estimated. The effects of sintering additives on the phase composition of the material were studied. The results show that, when using Y2O3 alone, Al6Si2O13 phase can be formed in the material, but when using Y2O3 and MgO, MgAl2O4 phase can be preferentially formed and the Al6Si2O13 is not observed. The mechanical properties of the material were measured and the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties were discussed. The sample with Y2O3 and MgO sintering additives, using fused quartz alone as SiO2 source, displays a combination of high bending strength(163 MPa) and good fracture toughness(3.11 MPa·m1/2).Bending strength and fracture toughness of the samples increase with the increase of the content and aspect ratio of elongated grains and decrease with the increase of the porosity. 展开更多
