Repetitive mining beneath bedding slopes is identified as a critical factor in geomorphic disturbances, especially landslides and surface subsidence. Prior research has largely concentrated on surface deformation in plains due to multi-seam coal mining and the instability of natural bedding slopes, yet the cumulative impact of different mining sequences on bedding slopes has been less explored. This study combines drone surveys and geological data to construct a comprehensive three-dimensional model of bedding slopes. Utilizing FLAC3D and PFC2D models, derived from laboratory experiments, it simulates stress, deformation, and failure dynamics of slopes under various mining sequences. Incorporating fractal dimension analysis, the research evaluates the stability of slopes in relation to different mining sequences. The findings reveal that mining in an upslope direction minimizes disruption to overlying strata. Initiating extraction from lower segments increases tensile-shear stress in coal pillar overburdens, resulting in greater creep deformation towards the downslope than when starting from upper segments, potentially leading to localized landslides and widespread creep deformation in mined-out areas. The downslope upward mining sequence exhibits the least fractal dimensions, indicating minimal disturbance to both strata and surface. While all five mining scenarios maintain good slope stability under normal conditions, recalibrated stability assessments based on fractal dimensions suggest that downslope upward mining offers the highest stability under rainfall, contrasting with the lower stability and potential instability risks of upslope downward mining. These insights are pivotal for mining operations and geological hazard mitigation in multi-seam coal exploitation on bedding slopes. 展开更多

Axial liquid dispersion was experimentally studied in liquid-solid and gas-liquid-solid magnetically stabilized beds using the ferromagnetic catalyst of SRNA-4 as the solid phase. The effects of operating factors and fluid characters, such as superficial liquid velocity, superficial gas velocity, magnetic field intensity, liquid viscosity and surface tension, on axial dispersion coefficients of liquid were investigated. The dispersion coefficients increased with the increase of superficial liquid velocity and superficial gas velocity, and decreased with the increase of liquid viscosity, liquid surface tension and magnetic field intensity. A correlation equation of Peclet number was obtained for both liquid-solid and gas-liquid-solid magnetically stabilized bed. 展开更多

The magnetic perovskite-supported palladium catalysts Pd/Lal_xPbxMnO3 (x = 0.2-0.7) were prepared and used for the oxidative carbonylation of phenol to diphenyl carbonate. The synthesized catalysts were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), surface area measurement BET, vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) and tem- perature-programmed reduction (TPR). The experimental results demonstrated that the magnetic Pd/La1-xPbxMnO3 (x = 0.4-0.5) obtain relative better catalytic activity. It can be explained by higher concentration of oxygen vacan- cies, larger amount and better mobility of lattice oxygen of their support. Furthermore, these samples possess suffi- cient saturated magnetization. Thus, Pd/La1-xPbxMnO3 (x = 0.4-0.5) may be suitable for operation in the magneti- cally stabilized bed reactor. 展开更多

A study to estimate land surface movement caused by large surface excavations in sedimentary strata is presented. In stratified or jointed strata the stress relief driven movement adjacent to large excavations can be significantly larger than expected.High lateral stresses measured in Australia and other places around the world indicate that the ratio of horizontal to vertical stress has been particularly high at shallow depths. The in situ strata is in compression and during excavation, stress is relieved towards the opening causing strata movement.Large excavations such as,open cut mines or highway cuttings, can initiate an extensive horizontal slide of surface layers towards the excavation. These ground movements can be damaging to surface structures such as water storage dams and large buildings.Based on stress measurements at shallow depths in Australian coal mines the study presented here calculates and models the extent of potential ground movement along the bedding surface adjacent to large excavations and provides a new prediction tool of land movement at the excavation boundary that can benefit the geotechnical practitioners in the mining industry. 展开更多

A magnetically stabilized fluidized bed (MSFB,Ф 500mm×2100mm) was designed to study dust removal from flue gas. Based on the mechanism of dust removal in a fixed bed, the effects on collection efficiency of magnetic field intensity, ratio of flue gas velocity to minimum fluidization velocity, bed height, and particle average diameter, were investigated. Then feasible methods for MSFB to better remove dust were proposed. Over 95 % of dust removal with MSFB can be achieved, when stable fluidization is maintained and when magnetic particles are frequently renewed. 展开更多

Liquid-solid (L-S) mass transfer coefficients (Ks) were characterized in a gas-liquid-solid (G-L-S) three-phase countercurrent magnetically stabilized bed (MSB) using amorphous alloy SRNA-4 as the solid phase. Effects of superficial liquid velocity, superficial gas velocity, magnetic field strength, liquid viscosity and surface tension were investigated. Experimental results indicated that the external magnetic field increased Ks in three-phase MSB, as compared to those in conventional G-L-S fluidized beds; that Ks increased with magnetic field strength, superficial gas and liquid velocities and decreased with liquid viscosity and surface tension; and that Ks showed uniform axial and radial distributions except for small increases close to the wall. Dimensionless correlations were established to estimate Ks of the G-L-S countercurrent MSB using SRNA-4 catalyst, with an average error of 3.6%. 展开更多

Experimental study of an airlift with a magnetically stabilized bed in the riser bottom has been performed. External magnetic field allows easy control of magnetized bed structure and liquid circulation rate. Minimum stabilization and fluidization conditions have been determined experimentally and by a three-line graphical method. Semi-empirical data correlations of sections of the experimental curves have been performed. Scaling relationships known from non-magnetic airlift are applicable too, but with the assumption that the magnetic field affects the loop friction coefficient only. 展开更多

Magnetically stabilized beds are packed beds subjected to fluid-driven deformation and controlled by magnetically induced interparticle forces. This paper deals with magnetically stabilized beds as deformable porous media and describes their application in dust filtration. The Richardson-Zaki scaling law, U/Ut = ε^n describes the field controlled bed expansion via the exponent n, that yields a porosity-dependent flow length scale dc = dpε^n. The paper addresses two issues: (i) deformation characteristics by assuming homogeneous bed expansion and a definition of bed variable flow length scale; (ii) dust filtration characteristics such as filter coefficient, specific deposit and filtration efficiency expressed in terms of the variable flow length scale and illustrated by experimental data. 展开更多

Heat transfer coefficients were measured by immersed probes in co- and counter-current G-L-S magnetically stabilized fluidized beds (MSFBs) using air, water and nickel-alloy particles as the gas, liquid and solid phases. Influences of major factors, including magnetic field intensity, superficial gas and liquid velocities, liquid viscosity and surface tension, on heat-transfer properties were studied experimentally, indicating that both co- and counter-current G-L-S MSFB can provide relatively uniform radial distribution of heat transfer coefficients under appropriate operation conditions, thus controlling operation temperature for highly exothermic multi-phase reaction systems. Two correlations were provided to estimate accurately heat transfer properties in both co- and counter-current G-L-S MSFB systems, with an average error of less than 10%. 展开更多

To enhance the bioregeneration of Fe(II)EDTA and to avoid the inhibition of the components in nitrogen oxides(NOx) scrubbing solution, a novel integrated process of metal chelate absorption and two-stage bioreduction was developed. In this process, magnetically stabilized fluidized beds(MSFB) were used as the bioreactors, and the phase diagram for the MSFB operation was determined. Factors including inlet NO, O2 and SO2 concentrations, magnetic field intensity, gas flow rate and liquid circulation rate, were studied experimentally to investigate their effects on NO removal. In addition, a mathematical model for NO removal in this integrated system was developed. The results revealed that the integrated system could be steadily operated with a high NO removal efficiency and elimination capacity, even under the condition of high NO and O2 shock-loading. The established model showed that NO removal efficiency was related to the spray column property and the active Fe(II)EDTA concentration, while the latter depends on the bioregeneration of the disabled absorbent in the MSFB. 展开更多
