Great Snipe(Gallinago media) is a shore bird which has a Near Threatened status on the global scale.However,little is known about its migration strategy from the breeding range in Russia.This study is the first one ai...Great Snipe(Gallinago media) is a shore bird which has a Near Threatened status on the global scale.However,little is known about its migration strategy from the breeding range in Russia.This study is the first one aiming to reveal migration routes,stopovers and wintering grounds of adult Great Snipes from their breeding range in Russia using GPS devices.We also analyzed connectivity of Great Snipes from different breeding populations of this species during non-breeding season.In 2021,we equipped seven males and three females with satellite transmitters,ICARUS Basic Tags,in the breeding range in central European Russia(56°75′N,37°65 E).One female appeared later in tundra of north-eastern Europe.In the second half of July to early September,birds migrated to Africa in a fairly wide front and made stopovers in Europe before crossing seas and the Sahara.Our data allowed to suppose high mortality of birds on migration,especially during the trans-Saharan flight.Only four Great Snipes reached Africa alive during southward migration.These birds spread over across wide area from Eritrea to Ghana after the trans-Saharan flight,after which they moved in a general westward direction and made final prolonged stopovers in Ghana or to the south of Chad Lake.In October/December birds relocated to wintering grounds in Sub-Equatorial Afrotropics as far as the south of Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia;with intermediate winter sites in low and middle reaches of the Congo Basin.Together with other published results,our data showed wide overlap of African non-breeding grounds of birds coming from lowland Eastern European and mountain Scandinavian breeding populations.The results also indicated insufficient conservation status of migration stopovers and wintering sites,used by Great Snipes,and demonstrated high importance of West Africa for conservation of this species.展开更多
Vaccination is a key strategy to curb the spread of epidemics.Heterologous vaccination,unlike homologous vaccination which acts on a single target and forms a single immune barrier,covers multiple targets for broader ...Vaccination is a key strategy to curb the spread of epidemics.Heterologous vaccination,unlike homologous vaccination which acts on a single target and forms a single immune barrier,covers multiple targets for broader protection.Yet,heterologous vaccination involves a complex decision process that conventional game-theoretic approaches,such as classical,evolutionary,and minority games cannot adequately capture.The parallel minority game(PMG)can handle bounded-rational,multi-choice decisions,but its application in vaccine research remains rare.In this study,we propose a vaccination-transmission coupled dynamic mechanism based on the parallel minority game and simulate it on a two-dimensional lattice.Using actual observational data and a mean-field mathematical model,we verify the effectiveness of this mechanism in simulating realistic vaccination behavior and transmission dynamics.We further analyze the impact of key parameters,such as vaccine efficacy differences and the proportion of individuals eligible for vaccine switching,on containment effectiveness.Our results demonstrate that heterologous vaccination surpasses homologous vaccination in containment effectiveness,particularly when vaccine efficacy varies significantly.This work provides a novel framework and empirical evidence for understanding individual decision-making and population-wide immunity formation in multi-vaccine settings.展开更多

Spinal cord injury is accompanied by a substantial loss of neurons.Cell replacement therapy improves motor and sensory dysfunction by replacing dead neurons,and endogenous neurogenesis is an important cell replacement...Spinal cord injury is accompanied by a substantial loss of neurons.Cell replacement therapy improves motor and sensory dysfunction by replacing dead neurons,and endogenous neurogenesis is an important cell replacement source.Stimulating endogenous neurogenesis is therefore a viable approach for treating spinal cord injury.Given that basic fibroblast growth factor is a potent inducer of neurogenesis,we developed a sustained-release system of basic fibroblast growth factor-chitosan to enhance tissue repair in spinal cord injury.In the present study,we isolated neural stem cells from the spinal cords of neonatal rats and used single-cell RNA sequencing to trace the complete process of neurogenesis under ex vivo culture conditions.Under the influence of basic fibroblast growth factor-chitosan,neural stem cells were able to transition from a quiescent state to an activated state and subsequently differentiate into neuronal precursor cells and immature neurons.Additionally,basic fibroblast growth factor-chitosan significantly enhanced neural stem cell proliferation in vitro and promoted neuronal generation.Subsequent in vivo experiments confirmed the therapeutic efficacy of basic fibroblast growth factor-chitosan in spinal cord injury,demonstrating enhanced neurogenesis and tissue repair.展开更多

New electronic devices based on the physical properties of electrically driven skyrmions are promising for logic computing and nonvolatile memory applications.However,achieving efficient and practical compute-storage ...New electronic devices based on the physical properties of electrically driven skyrmions are promising for logic computing and nonvolatile memory applications.However,achieving efficient and practical compute-storage integration remains challenging owing to the structural complexity,limited functionality,and low flexibility observed in most skyrmion-based devices.In this study,we designed a novel device architecture that integrates seven basic logic gates into a unified physical structure.Their operation can be enabled by physical mechanisms,such as spin-orbit torque,spin-transfer torque,skyrmion-edge repulsions,and skyrmion-skyrmion interactions.Furthermore,by incorporating voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy,the device achieved multi-input capability and reconfigurability functionality.Ultralow power consumption(<1 fJ/bit per logic function)and extremely high logic density were achieved.Significantly,the compatibility of this nanotrack design with existing skyrmion racetrack memory paves the way for advanced in-memory computing in spintronic architectures.展开更多
Objectives:The current treatment options and therapeutic targets for triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC),an aggressive subtype of breast cancer(BrCA),are limited.This study aimed to identify novel biomarkers and trans...Objectives:The current treatment options and therapeutic targets for triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC),an aggressive subtype of breast cancer(BrCA),are limited.This study aimed to identify novel biomarkers and transcriptional regulatory networks(TRN)inherent in TNBC samples.Methods:We analyzed pan-cancer BrCA datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)to compare triple-positive breast cancer(TPBC)with TNBC.TRN algorithms and virtual inference of protein-enriched regulon(VIPER)were used to identify master regulators and their target genes.Utilizing TNBC cells(MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468),we validated the relationship of nuclear factor erythroid 2-like 3(NFE2L3)and basic helix-loop-helix family member E 40(BHLHE40)by performing a luciferase assay.The expression levels of these targets were measured after transfections with plasmid and siRNA via qRT-PCR and western blots.The effect of these genes on cell proliferation and migration was studied using phenotypic assays.Results:Using computational approaches,we identified NFE2L3 as a master regulator with BHLHE40 as its target gene.NFE2L3 protein binds to the promoter region of BHLHE40 and regulates its transcriptional activity.Additionally,silencing and overexpressing NFE2L3 and BHLHE40 in TNBC cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468 showed that NFE2L3 directly regulates BHLHE40 at both transcriptional and translational levels.We found that BHLHE40 requires NFE2L3 for cell proliferation and migration in TNBC.Conclusion:These findings underscore the significance of NFE2L3 and BHLHE40 in TNBC,highlighting NFE2L3’s role in regulating the oncogenic activity of BHLHE40 in TNBC cells.展开更多

The presence of endogenous neural stem/progenitor cells in the adult mammalian brain suggests that the central nervous system can be repaired and regenerated after injury.However,whether it is possible to stimulate ne...The presence of endogenous neural stem/progenitor cells in the adult mammalian brain suggests that the central nervous system can be repaired and regenerated after injury.However,whether it is possible to stimulate neurogenesis and reconstruct cortical layers II to VI in non-neurogenic regions,such as the cortex,remains unknown.In this study,we implanted a hyaluronic acid collagen gel loaded with basic fibroblast growth factor into the motor cortex immediately following traumatic injury.Our findings reveal that this gel effectively stimulated the proliferation and migration of endogenous neural stem/progenitor cells,as well as their differentiation into mature and functionally integrated neurons.Importantly,these new neurons reconstructed the architecture of cortical layers II to VI,integrated into the existing neural circuitry,and ultimately led to improved brain function.These findings offer novel insight into potential clinical treatments for traumatic cerebral cortex injuries.展开更多

文摘The presence of endogenous neural stem/progenitor cells in the adult mammalian brain suggests that the central nervous system can be repaired and regenerated after injury.However,whether it is possible to stimulate neurogenesis and reconstruct cortical layers II to VI in non-neurogenic regions,such as the cortex,remains unknown.In this study,we implanted a hyaluronic acid collagen gel loaded with basic fibroblast growth factor into the motor cortex immediately following traumatic injury.Our findings reveal that this gel effectively stimulated the proliferation and migration of endogenous neural stem/progenitor cells,as well as their differentiation into mature and functionally integrated neurons.Importantly,these new neurons reconstructed the architecture of cortical layers II to VI,integrated into the existing neural circuitry,and ultimately led to improved brain function.These findings offer novel insight into potential clinical treatments for traumatic cerebral cortex injuries.
