To determine the ash characteristics during fluidized bed combustion and gasification purposes, the investigation of the impacts of chemical composition of Jincheng coal ash on the sintering temperature was conducted. A series of experiments on the sintering behavior at 0.5 MPa was performed using the pressurized pressure-drop technique in the combustion and gasification atmospheres. Meanwhile, the mineral transformations of sintered ash pellets were observed using X-ray diffractometer (XRD) analyzer to better understand the experimental results. In addition, quantitative XRD and field emission scanning electron microscope/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (FE-SEM/EDS) analyses of ash samples were used for clarifying the detailed ash melting mechanism. These results show that the addition of Fe203 can obviously reduce the sintering temperatures under gasification atmospheres, and only affect a little the sintering temperature under combustion atmosphere. This may be due to the presence of iron-bearing minerals, which will react with other ash compositions to produce low-melting-point eutectics. The FE-SEM/EDS analyses of ash samples with Fe203 additive show consistent results with the XRD measurements. The CaO and Na20 can reduce the sintering temperatures under both the combustion and gasification atmospheres. This can be also contributed to the formation of low-melting-point eutectics, decreasing the sintering temperature. Moreover, the fluxing minerals, such as magnetite, anhydrite, muscovite, albite and nepheline, contribute mostly to the reduction of the sintering temperature while the feldspar minerals, such as anorthite, gehlenite and sanidine, can react with other minerals to produce low-melting-point eutectics, and thereby reduce the sintering temperatures. 展开更多

Miscanthus giganteus is one of the energy crops considered to show potential for a substantial contribution to sustainable energy production. In the literature there is little data available about the chemical composition of ashes from the combustion of Miscanthus and practically no data about their physical properties. However, for handling, treatment and utilization of the ashes this information is important. In this study ashes from two biomass combustion plants using Miscanthus as fuel were investigated. The density of the ashes was 2230 ± 35 kg/m;, which was similar to the density of ashes from straw combustion. Also the bulk densities were close to those reported for straw ashes. The flowability of the ashes was a little worse than the flowability of ashes from wood combustion. The measured heavy metal concentrations were below the usual limits for utilization of the ashes as soil conditioner. The concentrations in the bottom ash were similar to those reported for ash from forest residue combustion plants. In comparison with cyclone fly ashes from forest residue combustion the measured heavy metal concentrations in the cyclone fly ash were considerably lower. Cl-, S and Zn were enriched in the cyclone fly ash which is also known for ashes from wood combustion. In comparison with literature data obtained from Miscanthus plant material the concentrations of K, Cl-and S were lower. This can be attributed to the fact that the finest fly ash is not collected by the cyclone de-dusting system of the Miscanthus combustion plants. 展开更多

The cement-fly ash composite expansive stable grout was prepared to deal with the problems of poor stability and volume shrinkage of ordinary cement grout, and the effects of fly ash ratio and water-binder ratio on the properties of the grout and its consolidation were analyzed. In addition, the mineral composition and microstructural characteristics of grout consolidation with different mixing ratios were investigated. The experimental results indicate that fly ash and the increase of water-binder ratio reduce the strength of the grout consolidation, and increase the fluidity, bleeding rate, and setting time of the composite grout. However, the magnitude of the fly ash-induced strength reduction decreases with time. And the effect of fly ash on the setting time and compressive strength becomes more significant with the water-binder ratio. The later expansion performance of grout consolidation(after 7-42 d)is improved by fly ash.But the expansibility of consolidation with fly ash decreases at the early curing stage, and the reduction amplitude of expansion rate is smaller and the reduction age is shorter with the water-binder ratio increase.Fly ash improves the corrosion resistance performance of grout consolidation, and the corrosion resistance coefficient rises first and then falls with the fly ash ratio. And for 0.6:1 water-binder ratio, the corrosion resistance coefficient of the samples mixed with fly ash are greater than 100%.XRD and SEM show that fly ash inhibited the formation of ettringite in the early stage, which is unfavorable to the expansion of the slurry, and with the increase of age, this effect gradually weakened. 展开更多

The Al/fly ash composites are fabricated by liquid reactive sintering P/M process with fly ash particles as intensifying phases. The reactivity and newly formed phases during liquid sintering process have been analyzed by combing Thermochemicdl data base calculation and XRD characterization. The results show that some of constituents in fly ash have reacted with liquid aluminum so that the elemental Si, Fe, Ti as well as some amount of intermetallic compounds occur. The properties of aluminum/fly ash composites have been improved. With the fraction of fly ash increase, the composite density decreases; the hardness and the modulus of the composite increases, and the composite wear resistance are significantly increased. The fly ash reinforced composites represent a sort of low cost product with possible widespread applications in the automotive, small engine, and electromechanical machinery sectors. 展开更多

To reveal the influence of mechanical activation on the performance of fly ash, the microanalysis(the energy spectroscopy, XRD and SEM), the distribution size of particle of fly ash and cement paste intensity of various age for different grinding time were studied. The relationships of the activity and the composition of fly ash, microstructure and the distribution of particle size by mechanical activation of fly ash were obtained. The internal glass beads with activity were released by grinding fly ash for a certain time. The particle specific surface area was improved and the hydration reaction of the interface and the surface active center was increased by grinding. The granularity distributing of fly-ash trended towards optimization. The polar molecules or ions were easier to intrude into the internal cavity of the vitreous body. The active silica and alumina of fly ash were rapidly depolymerized. Each performance index of fly ash was increased before grinding for 20 min. Cement paste intensity of various age increased along with the grinding time, and the early strength increase range was big, but the later period intensity increase range hastened slightly. The internal part of vitreous of fly ash was destroyed if the fly ash continued to be ground and the activity of fly ash was reduced. It is suggested that Guozhuang's fly ash should be ground for 20 min. 展开更多

The chemical characteristics, element contents, mineral compositions, and the ameliorative effects on acid soils of five biomass ashes from different materials were analyzed. The chemical properties of the ashes varied depending on the source biomass material. An increase in the concrete shuttering contents in the biomass materials led to higher alkalinity, and higher Ca and Mg levels in biomass ashes, which made them particularly good at ameliorating effects on soil acidity. However, heavy metal contents, such as Cr,Cu,and Zn in the ashes, were relatively high. The incorporation of all ashes increased soil p H,exchangeable base cations, and available phosphorus, but decreased soil exchangeable acidity. The application of the ashes from biomass materials with a high concrete shuttering content increased the soil available heavy metal contents. Therefore, the biomass ashes from wood and crop residues with low concrete contents were the better acid soil amendments. 展开更多
