The influences of the thickness ratio of CrN vs Cr2O3 layer on the micr...In this study, CrN/Cr2O3 double-layered coatings with various thickness ratios of CrN vs Cr2O3 layer were prepared by arc ion plating technology. The influences of the thickness ratio of CrN vs Cr2O3 layer on the microstructural characteristics as well as the mechanical and tribological properties of the CrN/Cr2O3 doublelayered coatings were investigated. The corresponding mechanisms were also discussed. The results indicated that the insertion of CrN layer between the Cr2O3 layer and substrate can effectively decrease the internal stress level of the coating. With increasing the thickness ratio of CrN vs Cr2O3 layer, the surface roughness of double-layered coatings decreased gradually, which had a certain influence on the friction coefficient. In addition, the microhardness also declined gradually, the adhesive strength almost increased linearly, whereas the wear rate declined firstly and then increased slightly. As the thickness ratio was 2:1, the double-layered coating exhibited the best wear resistance.展开更多
A new electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking process with increasing hot metal charging ratio and improving slagging regime simultaneously was developed and applied in a 50 t electric arc furnace for more than a yea...A new electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking process with increasing hot metal charging ratio and improving slagging regime simultaneously was developed and applied in a 50 t electric arc furnace for more than a year at No. 1 Steelmaking Plant of Shanxi Taigang Stainless Corporation Limited. The essential fact of the new EAF steelmaking process was to charge hot metal in two portions or steps: firstly, 35wt%-40wt% hot metal was pretreated by blowing oxygen in a specially designed reactor for decar burization and improving hot metal temperature and melting premelted slag; secondly, 30wt% hot metal was charged into EAF with high basicity refining slags from ladle furnace (LF)-vacuum degassing furnace (VD) refining process. The results show that the hot metal charging ratio can reach to about 65wt%-70wt% for the new EAF steelrnaking process; meanwhile, the tap-to-tap time of a 50 t EAF can shorten by 5-10 min, the electricity consumption can decrease by 35-50 kW·h/t, the lime consumption can reduce by 10.5 kg/t of molten steel, and the content of harmful heavy metals in molten steel can be easily controlled to less than the upper limits of aimed steel specification or grade compared with the traditional EAF steelmaking process. In addition, the dephosphorization ability shows a slight strengthening, however, a small degree of lessening for desulphurization ability is observed for the new EAF steelmaking process, but the weakness of desulphurization ability cannot become an obstacle to its further application since a stronger desulphurization ability can be achieved during secondary refining of LF coupled with VD after EAF steelmaking process.展开更多

This method is different from the traditional TIG welding because it introduces an MIG welding torch into the traditional TIG welding system. An indirect arc is generated between the consumable electrode of the MlG welding torch and the tungsten electrode of the TIG welding torch, but not generated between the tungsten electrode of the welding torch and the base metal. Welding current flows from the consumable electrode to the tungsten electrode in the free-burning indirect are. The consumable aided tungsten indirect arc welding not only rapidly melts the welding wire but also effectively restrains the excessive fusion of the base metal. The welding experiment and the theoretical analysis confirm that this method can obtain a high deposition rate and a low dilution ratio during the welding process.展开更多

The temp...The notion of ratio of width to length is proposed to describe the shaping feature of molten pool of twin-Arc submerged arc welding accurately, and analyze the law of molten pool variation and weld formation. The temperature field finite element numerical simulation model of twin arc movement is established. The loading form of twin-arc with double ellipsoid heat source is discussed. The molten pool temperature field of twin-arc submerged arc welding is calculated and analyzed under different process parameters. The law of molten pool characteristics influenced by the welding speed, current and voltage of twin-arc submerged arc welding parameters is analyzed. The relation between shaping feature of molten pool and weld formation is discussed according to the ratio of width to length. The results manifested that the width to length ratio of weld pool decreases with the improvement of welding speed, which result in gene- ration of weld defects. The width to length ratio of weld pool is increased by adjusting the proportion of the current, voltage and the distance of the two arcs, which avoids the generation of weld defects.展开更多

Hydrokinetic technology is an alternative among other promising technologies for rural area electrification because of availability of abundant flowing Rivers and low population in rural settlement. In this paper, the author designed and numerically simulated a circular arc blade hydrokinetic turbine system. The design power for the horizontal axis hydrokinetic turbine was 3 kW at water velocity of 3 m/s with the tip speed ratio of 2.5, angle of attack of 10 degrees and power coefficient of 0.4. In this work, a numerical simulation was employed to characterize and develop the horizontal axis hydrokinetic turbine. The prototype circular arc blade horizontal axis hydrokinetic turbine was tested in one of stream in Zambia and the results were compared with the numerical simulation results.展开更多
