A 45 d pot experiment was conducted to examine the effects of silicon fertilizer or iron fertilizer on the growth of two typical Ipomoea aquatica cultivars(Daye and Liuye) and arsenic(As) accumuation of Daye and L...A 45 d pot experiment was conducted to examine the effects of silicon fertilizer or iron fertilizer on the growth of two typical Ipomoea aquatica cultivars(Daye and Liuye) and arsenic(As) accumuation of Daye and Liuye grown in As-contaminated soils at different As dosage levels. The results showed that the application of these two fertilizers generally enhanced the growth of the plants, which may be partly attributable to the reduction in As toxicity. The addition of these two fertilizers also significantly reduced the uptake of As by the plants though the iron fertilizer was more effective, as compared to the silicon fertilizer. The accumulation of As in shoot portion was weaker for Daye than for Liuye. The research findings obtained from this study have implications for developing cost-effective management strategies to minimize human health impacts from consumption of As-containing I. aquatica.展开更多
A new Coix aquatica Roxb.cyto-type,found in the southwest of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China,was identified and analyzed by acetocarmine squashing and fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH)technique includ...A new Coix aquatica Roxb.cyto-type,found in the southwest of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China,was identified and analyzed by acetocarmine squashing and fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH)technique including genomic in situ hybridization(GISH).This new C.aquatica cyto-type was different from other C.aquatica cyto-types reported in chromosome structure.It was 2n=30 in chromosome number,and ten bivalents plus ten univalents were formed in meiotic prophase and metaphase I.GISH results indicated that its 20 chromosomes were highly homologous to chromosomes of allotetraploid species C.lacryma-jobi L.(2n=20).The 45S and 5S rDNA were respectively located on the two different chromosomes of the C.aquatica.One of chromosomes carrying 45S rDNA showed its chromosome shape and signal location in the C.aquatica as the same as that in C.lacryma-jobi.So did one of chromosomes carrying 5S rDNA.It could be deducted that one of parental candidates for the new C.aquatica cyto-type may be C.lacryma-jobi The other parental candidate may be allooctopolyploid C.aquatica(2n=40),which is similar to the new cyto-type of C.aquatica in aquatic habit and plant morphology.展开更多

[Methods]Taking I. aquatica as the test material,Chlorella vulgaris,Scenedesmus obliquus,Microcystis aeroginosa and rotifer Adineta vaga with different densities were added to the hydroponics nutrients solutions of I. aquatica by the hydroponic ecological simulation method. The growth characteristics of I. aquatica,changes of microbial populations and the consumption status of nutrients in the nutritional solution were determined. And the interactions between the plant and the microbial populations were researched. [Results]When I. aquatica seedlings grew to a certain stage,growth of principal root stopped; while the lateral roots emerged greatly; and the nutrition absorption efficiency enhanced. As the inoculation concentration of C. vulgaris increased,root length of I. aquatica increased relatively great due to the competition for nutrients. The competition and allelopathy of M. aeroginosa and S. obliquus restricted the development of root system of I. aquatica. The grazing pressure of Chlorella vulgaris had little effects on M. aeroginosa,but restricted the rapid growth of S. obliquus. [Conclusions]This research provided data support for the application of fish-shrimp-vegetable aquaculture system.展开更多
Objective:To evaluate the anti-bacterial and anti-biofilm activity of ethyl acetate fraction of Rotula aquatica Lour.(EFRA)against clinically isolated uropathogenic Escherichia coli.Methods:In vitro antibacterial and ...Objective:To evaluate the anti-bacterial and anti-biofilm activity of ethyl acetate fraction of Rotula aquatica Lour.(EFRA)against clinically isolated uropathogenic Escherichia coli.Methods:In vitro antibacterial and anti-biofilm studies were employed.The antimicrobial activity of EFRA was assayed by the well diffusion method.The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC)of the active fraction were determined by Resazurin method.The time-kill kinetic assay,acridine orange-ethidium bromide staining,propidium iodide uptake assay,and scanning electron microscopic(SEM)analysis were done to evaluate the efficacy of EFRA in killing uropathogenic Escherichia coli.The anti-biofilm activity was determined by 3-[4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl]-2,5-diphenyl-2 H-tetrazolium-bromide(MTT)assay and specific biofilm formation assay.Results:The well diffusion assay of EFRA showed a very clear zone of inhibition against Escherichia coli BRL-17.The MIC and MBC of EFRA were 2.5 mg/m L and 5 mg/m L,respectively.The time-kill kinetic assay,fluorescence microscopic analysis,propidium iodide uptake assay,and SEM analysis displayed the effect of EFRA in killing the bacteria.The MTT assay and specific biofilm formation assay showed that EFRA prevented the formation of biofilms.Conclusions:The results of the present study confirm that EFRA could prevent bacterial growth and inhibit its biofilm formation.展开更多

Momordica charantia and Ipomoea aquatica leaves are two green leafy vegetables in Bangladesh that are commonly consumed considering their characteristic taste and abundant availability in nature.The aim of this study ...Momordica charantia and Ipomoea aquatica leaves are two green leafy vegetables in Bangladesh that are commonly consumed considering their characteristic taste and abundant availability in nature.The aim of this study was to determine the available bioactive phenolic constituents as well as total flavonoid content(TFC),tannin content(TTC),phenolic content(TPC),antioxidant activity(TAA)and DPPH radical scavenging activity(IC_(50))of the ethanolic extracts of M.charantia(MCE)and I.aquatica(IAE).HPLC-DAD and UV-visible spectrophotometer were used to determine the phenolic compounds and antioxidant properties,respectively.In this study,TFC,TTC,TPC,TAA and IC_(50) values were in the order of IAE(40.73±1.0 mg QE/g)>MCE(34.60±0.46 mg QE/g);MCE(40.93±0.70 mg TAE/g)>IAE(31.13±0.42 mg TAE/g);MCE(27.76±0.58 mg GAE/g)>IAE(21.29±0.43 mg GAE/g);MCE(52.03±0.21 mg AAE/g)>IAE(40.77±0.15 mg AAE/g)and MCE(333.22±67.37μg/mL)>IAE(560.74±10.25μg/mL).M.charantia ethanolic extracts contained five hydroxycinnamic acid:ferulic acid,chlorogenic acid,p-coumaric acid,rosmarinic acid and cinnamic acid;five flavonoids:epicatechin,quercetin,catechin,rutin hydrate and myricetin;two hydroxybenzoic acid:gallic acid and vanillic acid;and one phenolic aldehyde:vanillin.Whereas,I.aquatica extracts possessed four hydroxycinnamic acid:chlorogenic acid,p-coumaric acid,trans-ferulic acid and trans-cinnamic acid;four flavonoids:epicatechin,quercetin,catechin,and rutin hydrate;two hydroxybenzoic acid:gallic acid and vanillic acid;and one phenolic aldehyde:vanillin.These underutilised sources of leafy vegetables may be used to develop functional foods by emphasising their remarkable bioactive components.展开更多

Structurally, alisolides A-F(1 e6), composed of an oxole g...Twenty-one protostane-type triterpenoids with diverse structures, including nine new compounds(1 e9), were isolated from the of Alisma plantago-aquatica Linn. Structurally, alisolides A-F(1 e6), composed of an oxole group coupled to a five-membered ring, represent unusual C-17 spirost protostane-type triterpenoids. Alisolide H(8) is a novel triterpenoid with an unreported endoperoxide bridge. Alisolide I(9) represents the first example of 23,24-acetal triterpenoid. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis, wherein the absolute configurations of 4-6, 8 were further confirmed by the Mo2(OAc)4-induced ECD method. Furthermore, all isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on LPS-induced NO production in Caco-2 cells, and all the compounds showed remarkable inhibitory activities, with IC50 values in the range of 0.76 e38.20 mmol/L.展开更多
