The influence of solution treatment on the microstructure and properties of Mg2Si/AZ91D composites fabricated from Mg-SiO2 system via in-situ processing method was investigated.The results show that coarse Chinese script shape Mg2Si phases can be formed by adding SiO2 into AZ91D magnesium alloy with Si content up to 1.5% of the alloy melt.During solution treatment,the morphology and distribution of the coarse Chinese script shape Mg2Si phases are modified.Meanwhile,the β-Mg17Al12 phase is dissolved into the magnesium matrix.With increasing holding time,the coarse Mg2Si phases tend to dissolve,break and spheroidize.After solution treatment at 420 ℃ for 16 h,Mg2Si phases become the finest and relatively well-distributed phase.The tensile strength and elongation are increased by 14.9% and 38.9%,respectively.It is believed that the Mg2Si phases continuously dissolve and break,and finally the spheroidized Mg2Si particles are obtained due to the interface tension of Mg2Si/Mg interface. 展开更多

Graphene-reinforced aluminum (AI) matrix composites were successfully prepared via solution mixing and powder metallurgy in this study. The mechanical properties of the composites were studied using microhardness and tensile tests. Compared to the pure Al alloy, the graphene/Al composites showed increased strength and hardness. A tensile strength of 255 MPa was achieved for the graphene/Al com- posite with only 0.3wt% graphene, which has a 25% increase over the tensile strength of the pure Al matrix. Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were used to investigate the morphol- ogies, chemical compositions, and microstructures of the graphene and the graphene/A1 composites. On the basis of fractographic evidence, a relevant fracture mechanism is proposed. 展开更多

Based on the consideration of longitudinal warp caused by shear lag effects on concrete slabs and bottom plates of steel beams,shear deformation of steel beams and interface slip between steel beams and concrete slabs,the governing differential equations and boundary conditions of the steel-concrete composite box beams under lateral loading were derived using energy-variational method.The closed-form solutions for stress,deflection and slip of box beams under lateral loading were obtained,and the comparison of the analytical results and the experimental results for steel-concrete composite box beams under concentrated loading or uniform loading verifies the closed-form solution.The investigation of the parameters of load effects on composite box beams shows that:1) Slip stiffness has considerable impact on mid-span deflection and end slip when it is comparatively small;the mid-span deflection and end slip decrease significantly with the increase of slip stiffness,but when the slip stiffness reaches a certain value,its impact on mid-span deflection and end slip decreases to be negligible.2) The shear deformation has certain influence on mid-span deflection,and the larger the load is,the greater the influence is.3) The impact of shear deformation on end slip can be neglected.4) The strain of bottom plate of steel beam decreases with the increase of slip stiffness,while the shear lag effect becomes more significant. 展开更多

Based on the first-order shear deformation theory, this paper explores the analytical methods for eigenbuckling of symmetric cross-ply rectangular composite laminates with a pair of parallel edges simply supported and the remaining two edges arbitrarily constrained. The main contribution of present paper lies in two aspects: one is to present a simple and effective analytical method, namely, the separation-of-variables method, which can generate the closed-form buckling solutions without any computational difficulty; the other is to incorporate the accurate computation method of exponential matrix into the state space technique to avoid the inevitable numerically illconditioned problems reported in several literatures. The results obtained via both analytical methods are identical, and a good agreement with their counterparts in literature is observed. The separation-of-variables method can generate exact solutions within 1 s, which is impossible if the state space method is employed. Besides, the combination of the accurate computation method of exponential matrix and the state space method greatly improves the computational efficiency and gives correct results compared with the straightforward use of state space method. 展开更多

However, W is an inert element and does not combust in air. To change the reaction characteristics of W, 60 at.% Al was introduced into W through mechanical alloying. XRD analysis shows that after 50 h of ball milling, the diffraction peak of Al completely disappears and W(Al60) super-saturated solid solution powder is obtained. Further observation by HAADF and HRTEM reveals that the W(Al60) super-saturated solid solution powder is a mixture of solid solution and amorphous phase. Based on the good thermal stability of W(Al60) alloy powder below 1000℃, W(Al60)-Al composite was synthesized by hot pressing process.Impact initiation experiments suggest that the W(Al60)-Al composite has excellent reaction characteristics, and multiple types of tungsten oxides are detected in the reaction products, showing that the modified W is combustible in air. Due to the combustion of tungsten, the energy release rate of the W(Al60)-Al composite at speed of 1362 m/s reaches 2.71 kJ/g. 展开更多

To make heat conduction equation embody the essence of physical phenomenon under study, dimensionless factors were introduced and the transient heat conduction equation and its boundary conditions were transformed to dimensionless forms. Then, a theoretical solution model of transient heat conduction problem in one-dimensional double-layer composite medium was built utilizing the natural eigenfunction expansion method. In order to verify the validity of the model, the results of the above theoretical solution were compared with those of finite element method. The results by the two methods are in a good agreement. The maximum errors by the two methods appear when τ(τ is nondimensional time) equals 0.1 near the boundaries of ζ =1 (ζ is nondimensional space coordinate) and ζ =4. As τ increases, the error decreases gradually, and when τ =5 the results of both solutions have almost no change with the variation of coordinate 4. 展开更多

The reverse osmosis (RO) separation of aqueous organic solutions, such as alcohols, amines, aldehydes, acids, ketones, and esters etc., by PAA (polyacrylic acid)/PSF (polysulfone) composite membrane has been studied. ... The reverse osmosis (RO) separation of aqueous organic solutions, such as alcohols, amines, aldehydes, acids, ketones, and esters etc., by PAA (polyacrylic acid)/PSF (polysulfone) composite membrane has been studied. It was found that the separation results for aliphatic alcohols, amines and aldehydes are satisfactory, the solute rejection (R-a) and the volume fluxes of solutions (J(V)) for 1000 ppm ethanol, ethylamine and ethyl aldehyde are 66.2%, 61.0%, 84.0% and 0.90 x 10(-6), 0.35 x 10(-6), 0.40 X 10(-6) m(3)/m(2) . s, respectively, at 5.0 MPa and 30 degrees C. R-a increased with increasing molecular weights of alcohols, amines and aldehydes, and the R-a for n-amyl alcohol, n-butylamine and n-butyl aldehyde reached 94.3%, 88.6% and 96.0%, respectively. Satisfactory separation results (R-a > 70%) for ketones, esters, phenols and polyols have been obtained with the PAA/PSF composite membrane. The effect of operating pressure on the properties of reverse osmosis has also been investigated. Analysis of experimental data with Spiegler-Kedem's transport model has been carried out and the membrane constants such as reflection coefficient sigma, solute and hydraulic permeabilities omega and L-p for several organic solutes have been obtained. 展开更多

Several action regimes were employed, namely, those exposed to solutions containing single and/or composite chloride and sulfate salts, and under wet-dry cycles and/or flexural loading. The variations in dynamic modulus of elasticity(Erd values) were monitored, as well as the key factor impacting on the chloride ingress when concrete subjected to multiple action regimes was identified by the method of Grey Relation Analysis(GRA). The changes in micro-structures and mineral products of interior concrete after different action regimes were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction(XRD), mercury intrusion technique(MIP), and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The test results showed that the cyclic wet-dry accelerated the deterioration of OPC concrete more than the action of 35% flexural loading based on the results of Erd values and the GEA. The analyses from micro-structures could give certain explanations to the change in Erd values under different action regimes. 展开更多

Analytical solutions of the displacements, stresses and stress intensity factors under the action of variable loads Pt6/x6, Px6/t5 are attained, respectively. The products of monoammonium phosphate containing Cr^3+resulted in disqualification,and further posed a serious threat to ecological environment and human beings.Herein,the porous adsorbent of fluor(calcium silicate)composites(FCSc)was prepared by hydrothermal method using diatomaceous earth,hydrated lime and additive(NaF)as raw materials,which was characterized and used for the removal of Cr^3+from monoammonium phosphate solutions.The effects of different parameters,such as solution pH,initial Cr^3+concentration,temperature and contact time on the adsorption of Cr^3+onto FCSc were investigated in details.The results indicated that the adsorption process was in agreement with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm.The spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process was obtained by analyzing various thermodynamic parameters(△G0,△H0,and△S0).In addition,computational monte carlo simulations between Cr3+ions and FCSc were conducted to elucidate the adsorption mechanism.Such kind of porous adsorbent provided a potential application in the removal of impurities from monoammonium phosphate industry. 展开更多

The ibuprofen-rectorite composites were prepared by the solution intercalation method using ibuprofen and rectorite as raw materials, and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier transform infrared analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental results show that the ibuprofen is intercalated into the interlayer spaces of rectorite. The values of the (001) peaks of the ibuprofen-rectorite composite are larger than that of Na-rectorite and reach the largest when the reaction time and ibuprofen amount is 2 h and 0.36 g, respectively. The layered structure of Na-rectorite is destroyed to some extent with the intercalation of ibuprofen into the interlayer space in the structure of Na-rectorite. A part of ibuprofen in the ibuprofen Na-rectorite covers on the surface of Na-rectorite besides some ibuprofen enters into the interlayer space. 展开更多

By transforming the governing equations for displacement components into Riccati equations, analytical solutions for displacements, strains and stresses for Representive Volume Elements (RVEs) of particle_ and fiber_reinforced composites containing inhomo geneous interphases were obtained. The analytical solutions derived here are new and general for power_law variations of the elastic moduli of the inhomogeneous interphases. Given a power exponent, analytical expressions for the bulk moduli of the composites with inho mogeneous interphases can be obtained. By changing the power exponent and the coefficients of the power terms, the solutions derived here can be applied to inhomogeneous interphases with many different property profiles. The results show that the modulus variation and the thickness of the inhomogeneous interphase have great effect on the bulk moduli of the composites. The particle will exhibit a sort of “size effect”, if there is an interphase. 展开更多

Electrochemical oxidation of polyethylene glycol(PEG) in an acidic(pH 0.18 to 0.42) and high ionic strength electroplating solution was investigated. The electroplating solution is a major source of wastewater in the printing wiring board industry. A paraffin composite copper hexacyanoferrate modified(PCCHM) electrode was used as the anode and a bare graphite electrode was used as the cathode. The changes in PEG and total organic carbon(TOC) concentrations during the course of the reaction were monitored. The efficiency of the PCCHM anode was compared with bare graphite anode and it was found that the former showed significant electrocatalytic property for PEG and TOC removal. Chlorides present in the solution were found to contribute significantly in the overall organic removal process. Short chain organic compounds like acetic acid, oxalic acid, formic acid and ethylene glycol formed during electrolysis were identified by HPLC method. Anode surface area and applied current density were found to influence the electro-oxidation process, in which the former was found to be dominating. Investigations of the kinetics for the present electrochemical reaction suggested that the two stage first-order kinetic model provides a much better representation of the overall mechanism of the process if compared to the generalized kinetic model. 展开更多

Sn Se emerges as one of the most promising Te-free thermoelectric materials due to its strong anharmonicity and multiple valence bands structure.Recently,compositing has been proven effective in optimizing thermoelectric performance of various metal chalcogenides.Herein,a series of Sn Se-x Cu_(2)S(x=0,0.5%,1%,3%,5%)materials have been fabricated via solution synthesis,particle blending,and spark plasma sintering in sequence.After incorporating Cu_(2)S,the materials become Sn Se based composites with Cu doping,S substitution and Cu_(2)Sn Se_(3)secondary phase.We elucidate that the power factor of polycrystalline Sn Se can be tuned and enhanced at varied temperature ranges through adjusting the addition amount of Cu_(2)S.Additionally,the composites achieve suppressed lattice thermal conductivity when compared to Sn Se itself,as the introduced point defects and Sn Se/Cu_(2)Sn Se_(3)interfaces intensify phonon scattering.Consequently,Sn Se-0.5%Cu_(2)S and Sn Se-3%Cu_(2)S achieve a peak z T of 0.70 at 830 K(intermediate temperature range)and a highly increased z T of 0.28 at 473 K(low temperature range),respectively,which are~130%and 200%of values reached by Sn Se at the corresponding temperatures.The study demonstrates that our approach,which combines compositing with elemental doping and substitution,is effective in optimizing the thermoelectric performance of Sn Se at varied temperature ranges. 展开更多

According to a mathematical model which describes the curing process of composites constructed from continuous fiber-reinforced, thermosetting resin matrix prepreg materials, and the consolidation of the composites, the solution method to the model is made and a computer code is developed, which for flat-plate composites cured by a specified cure cycle, provides the variation of temperature distribution, the cure reaction process in the resin, the resin flow and fibers stress inside the composite, the void variation and the residual stress distribution. 展开更多

An elastic analysis of an internal central crack with bridging fibers parallel to the free surface in an infinite orthotropic anisotropic elastic plane was analyzed, and the crack extension should occur in the format of self-similarity. When the fiber strength is over its maximum tensile stress, the fiber breaks. By means of complex variable functions, the problem considered can be easily translated into Reimann-Hilbert mixed boundary value problem. Utilizing the built dynamic model of bridging fiber pull-out in unidirectional composite materials, analytical solutions of the displacements, stresses and stress intensity factors under the action of increasing loads Pt5/x5, Px5/t4 are obtained, respectively. After those analytical solutions were used by superposition theorem, the solutions to arbitrary complex problems were acquired. 展开更多
