Objective:To investigate the role of natriuretic peptide in the process of left ventricular dysfunction caused by emotional stress. Methods:Adult male SD rats(n=30)and Wistar rats(n=60)were selected in this study.Atherosclerosis models were induced with high-fat diet and excess VD3 injection(eight consecutive weeks),and anger stress models were prepared by residentintruder stress experiment(two consecutive weeks).Furthermore, left ventricular functions were examined by high-resolution echocardiograph, after which left ventricular myocardium and coronary arteries were prepared for pathological section and observed with electron microscope. At the same time, the hypothalamus, medulla oblongata and left ventricular myocardium were also prepared for pathological sections to detect the localization and expression of AMP,BNP and NPK-A with immunofluorescence and western blot. Results:We found that left ventricular functions of atherosclerosis or emotional stress modeled rats were both inferior to the healthy ones and superior to the combined(atherosclerosis and emotional stress)modeled ones(P<0.05).We also found that atherosclerosis and emotional stress could both cause morphological changes of left ventricular cells and capillary which contribute to apoptosis and hyperblastosis.Further more, there was NPR—A distributed in hypothalamus, medulla oblongata,as well as left ventricular tissues with the same express trend between groups, with atherosclerosis modeled rats the highest and the healthy rats the lowest. Conclusions:The results of our study suggest that anger stress could cause an excess consumption of ANP,BNP and NPR-A in nervous and cardiovascular system which inhibit the compensatory self-repair function of atherosclerosis rats, leading to a promotion of fibrosis and lipid peroxidation, offering insight into the neuroendocrine mechanisms of left heart function obstacle. 展开更多

In order to find out the special cognitive emotional information to reach good accuracy in the recognition of anger emotions, the brain emotional oscillatory activity induced by relaxation and anger affective pictures is investigated in the amplitude measurement. A visual evoked affective experiment is designed and carried out to collect the electroencephalogram(EEG)data labeled with anger and relaxation emotion states. Twenty-one healthy college students(female 9, male 12) are employed to stimulate emotion by different affective pictures. Event-Related Spectral Perturbation(ERSP) is used to discover the pronounced features of anger tendency prediction in the time-frequency domain. ERSP maps exhibit that there is a difference between the female and male group, which is statistically significant within the 150-250 ms and 350-450 ms time range of alpha band. The male group is more susceptible to anger than female group, while the female group is faster in emotional regulation than the male group. These feature values could be used to identify the tendency of angry emotion, which can provide certain reference basis for further research on the predict the tendency of aggressive behavior. 展开更多

Objective: Anger attacks have been observed in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD), often triggered by obsessional triggers. However, few studies have reported the clinical characteristics and correlates of anger attacks among Chinese patients with OCD. Methods: A total of 90 adults with a primary diagnosis of OCD, ranging from 15 to 78 years old, participated in the study. Participants were administered the Rage Outbursts and Anger Rating Scale(ROARS), Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale-Second Edition, and Brown Assessment of Beliefs Scale by a trained clinician. Patients completed the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21. Results: A total of 31.3% of participants reported anger outbursts in the past week, and ROARS scores had no significant correlation with age, duration of illness, OCD severity, depression, or stress. However, ROARS scores were negatively related to education level, and positively related to obsessing symptoms and anxiety. Conclusions: These data suggest that anger attacks are relatively common in Chinese patients with OCD. The severity of anger attacks is related to educational level, obsessing symptoms, and anxiety, which may be a latent variable reflecting executive functioning and emotion regulation skills. 展开更多

With the development of motorization, road traffic crashes have become the leading cause of death in many countries. Among roadway traffic crashes, almost 90% of accidents are related to driver behaviors, wherein driving anger is one of the most leading causes to vehicle crash-related conditions. To some extent, angry driving is considered more dangerous than typical driving distraction due to emotion agitation. Aggressive driving behaviors create many kinds of roadway traffic safety hazards. Mitigating potential risk caused by road rage is essential to increase the overall level of traffic safety. This paper puts forward an integrated computer vision model composed of convolutional neural network in feature extraction and Bayesian Gaussian process in classification to recognize driver anger and distinguish angry driving from natural driving status. Histogram of gradients (HOG) was applied to extract facial features. Convolutional neural network extracted features on eye, eyebrow, and mouth, which are considered most related to anger emotion. Extracted features with its probability were sent to Bayesian Gaussian process classier as input. Integral analysis on three extracted features was conducted by Gaussian process classifier and output returned the likelihood of being anger from the overall study of all extracted features. An overall accuracy rate of 86.2% was achieved in this study. Tongji University 8-Degree-of-Freedom driving simulator was used to collect data from 30 recruited drivers and build test scenario. 展开更多

Previous studies reported that anger and hostility are often presented in the victims of a disaster. This study investigates the symptoms of anger and hostility after a wildfire disaster in a rural area of Greece. Cross sectional case control study of adult population (18-65 years old). Face to face interview. Data collected were demographic, Symptom Checklist 90-Revised for assessment of hostility, type and number of losses, trust in institutions personal and social attitudes. It was found that more of the victims of the wildfires reported symptoms of hostility compared to controls but this difference was disappeared when we adjust for other variables. Risk factors for development of hostility among the victims were mistrust in military forces and media, high levels of anxiety and distress, younger age and having higher education. It was concluded that anger and hostility after a disaster perhaps are not only related to disaster but other factors concerning demographic and personal characteristics may play an important role. 展开更多

BACKGROUND What factors affected the levels of anger and emotional distress experienced during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic?We hypothesized that(1)sociodemographic factors and resiliency factors would partially explain psychological distress and anger, with stronger resiliency associated with lower levels of distress and anger;(2)women would report more trust in national leadership,as well as more psychological problems;(3)individuals of low socioeconomic status would report less resiliency, less trust in national leadership, and greater distress than individuals of higher socioeconomic status;and(4)hope would mediate the relationships between the other resiliency factors and both anger and distress.AIM To explore whether community resilience, hope, and trust in leaders were associated with lower levels of anger and emotional distress during the COVID-19 pandemic.METHODS For this observational study, data were gathered in Israel during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, just before the Jewish New Year(mid-September 2020),as a second lockdown was announced.Data were gathered from 636 Israeli adults, who were recruited by the Midgam research panel. The participants filled out self-reported questionnaires including one on state anger, the Brief Symptom Inventory as a measure of mental-health problems(i.e.,somatization,depression,and anxiety),and questionnaires about trust in the state’s leaders, community resilience(CCRAM),and hope as measures of coping resources and resiliency.t-tests were used to explore differences between men and women and between those of lower and higher socioeconomic status.A hierarchical multiple regression analysis was then used to examine whether and how the sociodemographic and resiliency variables explained state anger and psychological distress.A Sobel test was used to evaluate the possible effects of hope on community resilience and trust in leadership in the context of both distress and anger.RESULTS Our results revealed differences between women and men in terms of anger and mental-health problems, but not in terms of coping resources.Women reported higher levels of both anger and mental-health problems.Participants of lower socioeconomic status reported more mental-health problems, more anger, and greater trust in the state’s leaders;whereas those of higher socioeconomic status reported greater hope.Furthermore, hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that the sociodemographic factors of gender, age, and socioeconomic status,as well as community resilience, trust in the state’s leaders, and hope explained mental health with a total of 19% of the variance and anger with a total of 33% of the variance. The Sobel tests showed that hope mediated the relationships between community resilience and mental health(z=3.46,P<0.001),community resilience and anger(z=2.90,P<0.01),and trust in leaders and anger(z=3.26,P<0.01),but did not affect the relationship between trust in leaders and mental health(z=1.53,P>0.05).CONCLUSION Personal and communal factors affect psychological distress.Personal resilience is an important factor that should be strengthened throughout life.Trust in leadership is important for citizens’mental health. 展开更多

Background: Nowadays, the medical environment has become more competitive in terms of fulfilling various desires of client and to deliver improved service. Repetitive and continued stress may lead anger. Anger is defined as a natural emotion that triggers self-protection mechanism in oneself in a stressful condition. Extreme stress or if duration and intensity of anger are uncontrollable then it could have a negative impact on physical health which can further cause difficulties such as inadequate life, interpersonal issues and depression. Objectives: To find out anger expression style among nurses who work in the hospitals of Karachi, Pakistan, and to assess the association between interpersonal problems and levels of anger expression. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Dow University Hospital and Civil Hospital Karachi from July to August 2017. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was based on two parts: the first part was related to demographic form and it was comprised of 10 questions. The second part has two forms, which includes the Stat Trait anger inventory (STAIX) and Korean Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex Scales (KIIP-SC). Results: Data were gathered from 196 participants working in shifts. More than half of the study participants were young (26 - 35-year-old). To the extent that interpersonal problems were regarded, nurses were negatively associated with state anger and trait anger where positive associations were found with anger control, anger in and anger out. This research exhibited consistent moderate correlation for cold vindictive among anger control, anger in and anger out. This study exhibited that the groups that had the most difficulty with interpersonal problems are the anger-in and out groups. Conclusion: It is concluded that anger expression types trait-anger, stat-anger, anger in, anger control and anger out were not at higher side and showed weaker characteristics of respective subgroups. Similarly, interpersonal problems were also at the lower side and exhibiting lighter characteristics of respective subgroups. 展开更多

The risk factors of high trait anger of juvenile offenders were explored through questionnaire study in a youth correctional facility of Hubei province, China. A total of 1090 juvenile offenders in Hubei province were investigated by self-compiled social-demographic questionnaire, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire(CTQ), and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-Ⅱ(STAXI-Ⅱ). The risk factors were analyzed by chi-square tests, correlation analysis, and binary logistic regression analysis with SPSS 19.0. A total of 1082 copies of valid questionnaires were collected. High trait anger group(n=316) was defined as those who scored in the upper 27 th percentile of STAXI-Ⅱ trait anger scale(TAS), and the rest were defined as low trait anger group(n=766). The risk factors associated with high level of trait anger included: childhood emotional abuse, childhood sexual abuse, step family, frequent drug abuse, and frequent internet using(P〈0.05 or P〈0.01). Birth sequence, number of sibling, ranking in the family, identity of the main care-taker, the education level of care-taker, educational style of care-taker, family income, relationship between parents, social atmosphere of local area, frequent drinking, and frequent smoking did not predict to high level of trait anger(P〉0.05). It was suggested that traumatic experience in childhood and unhealthy life style may significantly increase the level of trait anger in adulthood. The risk factors of high trait anger and their effects should be taken into consideration seriously. 展开更多
