Defect-embedded chiral nematic organizations are attractive due to their light manipulation ability that is crucial for photonic applications.Self-assembly of cellulose nanocrystals(CNC)forms a left-handed chiral nematic structure, which makes simultaneous reflection of left-handed circularly polarized(LCP)and right-handed circularly polarized(RCP)light a challenging task.Herein,we present unprecedented evidence that self-organized CNC films with left-handed helical sense and photonic bandgaps(PBG)display ambidextrous CP light reflection with peak reflectivity up to 68%and transform spontaneous photoluminescence to RCP and LCP luminescence with respective|glum|values up to 0.796 and 0.120.These ambidextrous chiroptical properties originate from a left-handed chiral nematic structure consisting of a nematic-like phase, acting as a half-wave retarder, sandwiched between two PBG layers. The latter are spontaneously intercalated into the left-handed helicoids by rapid gelation of CNC colloidal suspensions. We demonstrate that the ambidextrous chiroptical properties can be manipulated by changes in evaporation temperatures, concentrations, and characteristics of CNC suspensions. We showcase the potential of defect-embedded chiral nematic CNC films for the sustainable and scalable development of anti-counterfeiting optical labels. 展开更多

Taking Company M as the research object, this studyadopts a case study methodtoexploretheevolutionofenterprise competitive advantage differentiation matching and resource-focused action in the iterative innovation process under the synergy of opportunity identification and ambidextrous strategic combination. This study reveals the formation mechanism and path of iterative innovation in enterprises, finding that opportunity identification is a dynamic and complex process with significant variations.Enterprises can creativeyly utilize the synergbyetween ambidextrous strategic combinations based on the identified opportunities to stimulate differentiated allocation of competitive advantage modules based on resource heterogeneity and incomplete factor-mobility,and to achieve strategic flexibility. The adaptive interaction between opportunity identification and ambidextrous strategic combination drives the staged evolution of resource-focused action, including resource bricolage, arrangement, and orchestration, thereby realizing the iterative innovation process of"technology exploration based development model-market expansion-based development model-collaborative innovation-based development model." 展开更多

In an era of increasingly intense global competition and digital transformation, enhancing the innovation capabilities of specialized small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs)is a critical strategic objective with respect to national competitiveness.Although the role of digital infrastructure as a catalyst for innovation has been widely acknowledged, its specific impact on a firm's dual innovation activities, balancing exploratory and exploitative innovation, remains underexplored, particularly with respect to the underlying mechanisms. This study addresses this gap by using data obtained from national“specialized, sophisticated, distinctive and innovative”(SSDI)enterprises in China from 2009–2019 to empirically investigate the impact of digital infrastructure on their innovation outcomes. The findings reveal that digital infrastructure significantly promotes both exploratory and exploitative innovation and that the effect on the former is stronger.A mechanism analysis reveals two distinct pathways through which digital infrastructure operates.First,it alleviates financing constraints by reducing information asymmetry, which broadly increases a firm's overall investment in both innovation types.Second, more critically,it facilitates the attraction of high-skilled talent,a resource that disproportionately enhances the efficiency of complex and uncertain exploratory innovation. This second mechanism explains the stronger effect on exploratory activities observed in this context. This study has significant theoretical and practical implications.Theoretically,it contributes to the ambidextrous innovation literature by demonstrating how an external environmental factor—digital infrastructure—asymmetrically influences a firm's innovation portfolio.Practically, the findings provide actionable guidance for policy-makers,particularly by suggesting that maximizing returns on digital infrastructure investment requires complementary policies aimed at easing SME financing and attracting and retaining talent. 展开更多

DNA is generally assumed as a right-handed double helix and Z-DNA is a special kind of left-handed DNA infrequently found in nature. However, the finding of a zero linking number topoisomer supports a hypothesis that the two strands of DNA are winding ambidextrously, rather than plectonemically. It logically leads to a notion that the left-handed DNA is as common as right-handed DNA and the amount of left-handed DNA in a positively supercoiled plasmid prevails that of the right-handed DNA. In this report, the helical repeat of left-handed DNA, 12 bp per turn, was determined by a new method. How the positively supercoiled DNA was generated in hyperthermophiles and why their DNA can withstand the extreme high temperature are answered from an alternative theory. 展开更多
