Impact of TiC particles on microstructure and properties of Al-Cu-Mn alloys by semi-continuous casting

Al-based TiC particle-reinforced composites with varying TiC concentrations were fabricated through semi-continuous casting.The effects of TiC particles on the alloys’microstructure,grain boundary segregation,and mechanical properties were systematically analyzed.Moreover,the mechanisms by which TiC particles contribute to grain refinement,suppression of grain boundary segregation,and enhancement of hardness and wear resistance were discussed.The results demonstrate that TiC particles act as heterogeneous nucleation sites forα-Al within the Al-Cu-Mn alloys,leading to a refinement of grain size.As the TiC particle’s content increases,the grain size of the alloy drops at first and then elevates,transitioning from coarse dendritic crystals to fine equiaxed grains.At a TiC content of 1.3wt.%,the alloy exhibits the smallest grain size,reducing from 139±42μm without TiC to 90±38μm.Beyond this concentration,grain coarsening is observed.The incorporation of TiC particles effectively mitigates Cu segregation at grain boundaries,thereby enhancing the homogeneity of the Al-Cu-Mn matrix alloys.Additionally,the addition of TiC particles promotes hardness and wear resistance.Both hardness and wear resistance exhibit an initial increase followed by a decrease with increasing TiC content from 0 to 1.8wt.%. 展开更多

The Application of Frailty Prediction Model for Middle-aged and Elderly Patients with Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Peri-inpatient Nursing Intervention

Objective:To investigate the impact of targeted nursing interventions based on frailty prediction models on peri-hospitalization clinical outcomes in middle-aged and elderly patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding(UGIB).Methods:A prospective cohort study was conducted,and 126 middle-aged and elderly patients with UGIB admitted from August 2024 to August 2025 were selected as the study subjects.The patients were divided into the intervention group(63 cases)and the control group(63 cases)based on whether they received nursing intervention based on frailty prediction models.The control group received routine care,while the intervention group,on the basis of routine care,used the FRAIL scale combined with laboratory indicators(albumin,hemoglobin,etc.)to establish a predictive model to evaluate patients within 24 hours of admission,and implemented multi-dimensional targeted nursing intervention for pre-frailty or frailty patients screened out.The incidence of frailty,rebleeding rate,average length of stay,hospitalization cost,and nursing satisfaction during hospitalization were compared between the two groups.Results:The incidence of frailty during hospitalization in the intervention group was 11.1%(7 cases/63 cases),significantly lower than 31.7%(20 cases/63 cases)in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).The rebleeding rate of 4.8%vs 12.7%,the average length of stay of(7.2±1.5)days vs(9.1±2.2)days,and the average hospitalization cost of(23,000±6,000)yuan vs(28,000±7,000)yuan in the intervention group were all lower than those in the control group(all p<0.05).The nursing satisfaction score of the intervention group(93.5±4.2)points was higher than that of the control group(86.3±5.8)points(p<0.05).Conclusion:The frailty prediction model applied to the peri-hospitalization care of middle-aged and elderly patients with UGIB can effectively identify frailty risk.Through early targeted intervention,the incidence of frailty and rebleeding rate can be reduced,the length of hospital stay can be shortened,medical expenses can be reduced,and nursing satisfaction can be improved,which has clinical promotion value. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of blood-letting cupping combined with manual lymphatic drainage in treating breast cancer-related lymphedema(BCRL)and explore its mechanism of action from both traditional Chinese medicine and modern medical perspectives,providing a scientific basis and novel therapeutic approaches for clinical management of BCRL.Methods:Patients with BCRL admitted to the outpatient and inpatient departments of Hebei University Affiliated Hospital were enrolled.A prospective randomized controlled trial design was adopted,with eligible patients randomly assigned to a treatment group and a control group.The control group received manual lymphatic drainage alone,while the treatment group received manual lymphtic drainage combined with blood-letting cupping therapy.Posttreatment comparisons evaluated upper limb circumference reduction,edema severity grading,and upper limb functional scores.Vital signs and adverse reactions during treatment were recorded for both groups.Statistical software analyzed the data.Results:The treatment group demonstrated significantly greater reduction in upper limb circumference,improvement in edema severity,and higher upper limb function scores compared to the control group(P<0.05).Vital signs remained stable throughout treatment in both groups.No severe adverse reactions occurred in the treatment group;only isolated cases of mild skin itching were reported,which resolved after symptomatic management.Conclusion:The combination of bloodletting cupping and manual lymphatic drainage demonstrates reliable efficacy in treating BCRL,effectively alleviating edema symptoms and improving upper limb function with high safety.Its mechanism may relate to traditional Chinese medicine principles of“unblocking meridians,promoting blood circulation,and resolving stasis”and modern medical concepts of“enhancing local blood circulation,facilitating lymphatic drainage,and reducing inflammatory responses”. 展开更多

Seasonal machine learning fusion for improved satellite precipitation estimates:A case study in the upper Ganjiang River,China

Rainfall input errors are a major source of uncertainty in flood forecasting,and merging multi-source precipitation data is essential for improving accuracy.Traditional merging methods often prioritize precipitation magnitude enhancements while overlooking event detection and false alarms.To address these limitations,this study developed a precipitation integration framework that combines machine learning classification-plus-regression models with Bayesian model averaging(BMA).Three machine learning algorithms-categorical boosting(CatBoost),light gradient boosting machine(LightGBM),and random forest(RF)-were used to improve precipitation event detection.The framework includes spatial unification of raw satellite products using bilinear interpolation,bias correction through classification-plus-regression models,and final merging via a seasonal-scale BMA model.The method integrated GSMaP,IMERG,and PERSIANN satellite precipitation products,with ground observations used for model training(2001-2014)and independent validation(2015-2020)in the Upper Ganjiang River Basin,China.Results showed that the framework significantly enhanced precipitation estimation accuracy and detection capability.LightGBM-based integration exhibited superior detection performance(FAR=0.08,CSI=0.86),while RF-based integration achieved the highest overall accuracy(RMSE=4.67,CC=0.92).Seasonal variations in BMA weights underscored the need to account for seasonal characteristics of precipitation products.Additionally,accuracy improvements were observed across all rainfall categories,especially for heavy rainstorms.The seasonal-scale BMA fusion has combined the strengths of individual corrections and further enhanced precipitation estimation.This research offers a robust method for generating accurate rainfall inputs,providing valuable support for hydrological modeling and flood forecasting applications. 展开更多

Background:Upper tract urothelial carcinoma(UTUC)is an aggressive malignancy with high recurrence rates.Lymphovascular invasion(LVI)predicts a poor prognosis,yet its molecular drivers remain unclear.BOC cell adhesion-associated,oncogene-regulated(BOC,also known as Brother of CDO[Cell adhesion moleculeRelated/Down-regulated by Oncogenes]),a hedgehog-related cell surface receptor,may serve as a biomarker for tumor progression and chemotherapy response.The study aimed to investigate the role of BOC in UTUC and its potential to predict LVI and chemotherapy response.Methods:Sequencing(RNA-seq)of 10 stage III UTUC,treatment-naïve,fresh tissue samples identified BOC as a candidate biomarker,which was subsequently validated in 2 independent cohorts(n=74).Functional assays using urothelial carcinoma cell lines assessed the impact of BOC knockdown on cell migration,proliferation,and drug sensitivity.Methylation-specific PCR(MSP)was used to identify potential regulatory sites influencing BOC expression,and immunohistochemistry(IHC)analysis was conducted to compare BOC levels in high-and low-grade bladder cancer.Results:BOC expression was significantly higher in patients with lymphovascular invasion(LVI+,p<0.01).Knockdown of BOC markedly inhibited cancer cell migration,without affecting proliferation.BOC knockdown enhanced the efficacy of cisplatin and gemcitabine in UTUC cells,although clinical tissue data did not provide direct evidence of its role as a predictor of drug response.Methylation analysis identified key regulatory sites that may control BOC expression,and IHC confirmed increased BOC levels in high-grade bladder cancer,linking it to tumor aggressiveness.Conclusion:BOC may serve as a potential biomarker for predicting LVI and chemotherapy response in UTUC.Its involvement in cancer cell migration and association with high-grade tumors suggests its clinical relevance for prognosis and treatment stratification.Further validation in larger,multi-center studies is warranted. 展开更多

Temperature-dependent resistivity,upper critical field H_(c2)and its anisotropy in overdoped superconducting Ba_(1-x)K_x Fe_2As_2(x=0.6-1)single crystals have been measured in steady magnetic fields up to 44 T and low temperatures down to 0.4 K.Analysis using both the quadratic term and power-law fitting demonstrates that the in-plane resistivityρ_(ab)(T)progressively approaches the Fermi-liquid T~2behavior with increasing K doping and reaches a saturation plateau at x≈0.8.The temperature dependence of both H_(c2)^(ab)and H^(c)_(c2)follows the Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg model,incorporating orbital and spin paramagnetic effects.For x≤0.8,the orbital effect dominates for H ab,while the Pauli paramagnetic effect prevails for H c.For x>0.8,the Pauli paramagnetic effect becomes dominant in both crystallographic directions.The anisotropy of H_(c2)(0)exhibits a discontinuity in its dependence on K doping concentration with a significant enhancement at x=0.8 and a maximum at x=0.9.These experimental results indicate that the electron correlation effect is enhanced in the heavily overdoped Ba_(1-x)K_(x)Fe_(2)As_(2)system where the underlying symmetries are broken due to the Fermi surface reconstruction before x=0.9. 展开更多

Stroke and traumatic brain injury lead to upper motor neuron syndrome,which is characterized by muscle spasticity or paresis of varying severity depending on the lesion’s location and extent.Current treatments are mostly symptomatic with limited efficacy and significant side effects.Nerve transfer techniques,such as the contralateral L4 ventral root transfer in animal models and C7 root transfer in both animal and clinical studies,have been shown to reduce spasticity and improve function in upper motor neuron syndrome;however,they lack selectivity.Our hypothesis is that using a selective peripheral donor nerve from the contralateral side,rather than the entire nerve root,may represent an effective nerve transfer and provide a robust basis for future research on selective muscle reinnervation in upper motor neuron syndrome.Ten rats underwent a contralateral ulnar-to-ulnar nerve transfer procedure.Electrophysiological measurements were conducted twelve weeks post-surgery to assess successful reinnervation of the contralateral flexor carpi ulnaris muscle.Additionally,muscle biopsies of the reinnervated flexor carpi ulnaris were harvested to examine the muscle fiber type composition,cross-sectional area,and collagen content as well as compare them to naive counterparts.Axon quantification of the reinnervated nerves was also performed.All rats recovered uneventfully,maintaining the use of both paws post-surgery.Electrophysiological tests confirmed the successful reinnervation of the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle.Muscle fiber type composition,cross-sectional area,and collagen content did not show statistically significant changes.Axon counts indicated successful nerve regeneration without architectural disruption.In conclusion,we were able to demonstrate this novel contralateral nerve transfer model’s feasibility,reproducibility,and safety as well as achieve effective muscle reinnervation.This model provides a valuable tool for further research on selective muscle reinnervation and treatment of upper motor neuron syndrome,with potential implications for improving clinical outcomes in stroke and traumatic brain injury patients. 展开更多

Three-layer composite ingot of 4045/3004/4045 aluminum alloys was prepared by direct-chill semi-continuous casting process,the temperature field distribution near the composite interface,macro-morphology,microstructure and composition distribution of the composite interface were investigated.The results show that semi-solid layer with a certain thickness forms near the interface due to the effect of cooling plate,which ensures successful implementation of casting the composite ingot.Two different aluminum alloys are well bonded metallurgically.The mechanical properties of composite interface were measured,the tensile and shearing strengths of composite interface are 105 and 88 MPa,respectively,which proves that the composite interface is a kind of metallurgical bonding. 展开更多

Large-scale Mg-8Gd-4Y-1Zn-Mn(wt.%)alloy ingot with a diameter of 315 mm and a length of 2410 mm was prepared through semi-continuous casting.Chemical composition,microstructure and mechanical properties at different locations of the samples with as-cast,T4 and T6 heat-treated states,respectively,were investigated.No obvious macro segregation has been detected in the high-quality alloy ingot.The main eutectic structures at all different locations are composed ofα-Mg,Mg3RE-type,Mg5RE-type and LPSO phases.At the edge of ingot,the unusual casting twins including 10-12 extension twins and 10-11 compression twins were observed due to the intensive internal stress.In T4 heat-treated alloy,the micro segregation was eliminated.The remained phases wereα-Mg and LPSO phase.Combined with the remarkable age-hardening response,T6 samples exhibits improved mechanical properties at ambient temperature,which derives from the dense prismaticβ'precipitates and profuse basalγ'precipitates. 展开更多

The effect of rare earth Ce on the microstructure of Mg-1.5Zn-0.2Zr-xCe alloys was studied and the distribution of Ce was analyzed by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that Ce element exists in the form of Mg12Ce phase and has an obvious refining effect on the microstructure of test alloys. As the Ce content increases, the grain size reduces, the grain boundaries turn thinner, and the distribution of Mg12Ce precipitates becomes more and more dispersed. The Mg-1.5Zn-0.2Zr alloy with 0.3%Ce has the best refinement effect. From center to periphery of the ingot, the amount of granular precipitates in the grain reduces. In longitudinal section of the ingot, some relative long columnar grains appear. 展开更多

Under the high-intensity ultrasonic field,AZ80 magnesium alloy was semi-continuously cast.The effects of ultrasonic intensity on the as-cast microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated.The results show that the microstructures of the alloy cast under high-intensity ultrasonic field are fine and uniform,and the grains are equiaxed,rose-shaped or globular with an average size of 257μm.High-intensity field significantly decreases the grain size,changes the morphologies of theβ-Mg17Al12 phases and reduces their area fraction.It is also shown that a proper increase in ultrasonic intensity is helpful to obtain fine,uniform and equiaxed as-cast microstructures.The optimum ultrasonic parameters are that frequency is 20 kHz and ultrasonic intensity is 1 368 W.The mechanical tests show that the mechanical properties of the as-cast AZ80 magnesium alloy billets cast under ultrasonic field are greatly improved,and with increasing the ultrasonic intensity,the mechanical properties of the entire alloy billets are much higher and more uniform than those of the alloy without ultrasonic field. 展开更多

The microstucture, mechanical properties and fracture behaviors of semi-continuous cast Mg-8Gd- 3Y-0.5Zr (wt.%, GW83K) alloy after different heat treatments were investigated. Almost all the eutectic compounds were dissolved into the matrix and there was no evident grain growth after optimum solution treatment at 500 ~C for 4 h. Further ageing at low temperatures led to significant precipitation hardening, which strengthened the alloy. Peak-aged at 200℃, the alloy had the highest ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and lowest elongation at 395 MPa and 2.8%, respectively. When aged at 225℃ for 15 h, the alloy exhibited prominent mechanical performance with UTS and elongation of 363 MPa and 5.8 %, respectively. With regard to microstructure and tensile properties, the processes of 500℃, 4 h + 225℃, 15 h are selected as the optimal heat treatment conditions. The alloy under different conditions shows different fracture behaviors: in the as-cast alloy, a quasi-cleavage pattern is observed; after solution treatment, the alloy exhibits a trans-granular quasi-cleavage fracture; after being peak-aged at 200℃ and 225℃, the fracture mode is a mixed mode of trans-granular and inter-granular fracture, in which the inter-granular mode is dominant in the alloy peak-aged at 200℃. 展开更多

The massive consumption of fossil energy force s people to find new source s of energy.Syngas fermentation has become a hot research field as its high potential in renewable energy production and sustainable development.In this study,trophic anaerobic acetogen Morella thermoacetica was successfully immobilized by calcium alginate embedding method.The ability of the immobilized cells on production of acetic acid through syngas fermentation was compared in both airlift and bubble column bioreactors.The bubble column bioreactor was selected as the better type of bioreactor.The production of acetic acid reached 32.3 g·L^(-1) in bubble column bioreactor with a space-time yield of 2.13 g·L^(-1)·d^(-1).The immobilized acetogen could be efficiently reused without significant lag period,even if exposed to air for a short time.A semi-continuous syngas fermentation was performed using immobilized cells,with an average space-time acetic acid yield of 3.20 g·L^(-1)·d^(-1).After 30 days of fermentation,no significant decrea se of the acetic acid production rate was observed. 展开更多

An innovative method called semi-continuous equal channel angular extrusion (SC-ECAE) has been devel- oped to produce ullrafine grained steel by inducing severe plastic deformation. In contrast to the external forces that are exerted on specimens in traditional ECAE, the driving forces are applied on the dies in the novel SC EACE process. Commercial interslitial-free steel sheets with width of 160 mm and tbickness of 2 mm were processed re peatedly to various passes at room temperature using this method. The microstructural evolution was characterized using high-resolution electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and the mechanical properties were investigated by tensile testing. The EBSD images indicated that the fraction of high angle boundaries (HABs) began to increase gradually after four passes; after six passes, elongated HAB structures with nearly submicron-scale average spacings were formed. The tensile testing results showed that strengthening was accompanied by a decrease in tensile ductili- ly, but no significant anisotropy was observed. After 10 passes, a final HAB fraction of about 90% and an overall grain size of 0.55 μm, yield strength of 638.7 MPa, an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 710.3 MPa, and a totfd elongation of 12.0 % were obtained. 展开更多

For the large magnesium alloy ingot, there is a considerable difference in cooling rate of different parts in the ingot, which leads to non-uniform distribution of the secondary phases, solute segregation and tensile properties. In the present research, an heavy AZ61 alloy ingot with a diameter of 500 mm was made by semi-continuous casting. The microstructure and mechanical properties at different positions along the radial direction of the large ingot were investigated by using an optical microscope(OM), a scanning electron microscope(SEM), an energy dispersive spectroscope(EDS), and a micro-hardness tester. The results indicate that the microstructure of the AZ61 ingot is non-uniform in different locations. It changes from equiaxed to columnar grains from the center to the edge; the average grain size gradually reduces from 1,005 μm to 763 μm, the secondary dendrite arm spacing reduces from 78 μm to 50 μm, and the Mg17(Al,Zn)12 phase is also refined. The micro-hardness value increases from 55.4 HV at the center to 72.5 HV at the edge of the ingot due to the microstructure differences, and the distribution of micro-hardness at the edge of the ingot is more uniform than that in the center. The tensile properties at room temperature show little difference from the center to the edge of the ingot except that the elongation at the edge is only 3.5%, much lower than that at other areas. The fracture mechanism is ductile fracture at the center and cleavage fracture at the edge of the ingot, and at the 1/2 radius of the ingot, a mixture of ductile and cleavage fracture is present. 展开更多

The compositions and microstructure morphologies of the ingot at different locations were performed, which indicated that the chemical composition distributed homogeneously through the whole alloy ingot and the average grain size increased from the surface to the center. The results of the EDS and element face-scanning illustrated that the eutectic compounds mainly consisted of fl-Mg17Al12 and a small amount of fl-Mgl7(AlZn)12. Furthermore, slight improvements of the strength and ductility were observed from the center to the surface along the axial direction of the alloy ingot, while both the strength and elongation to failure of the samples along the radial direction are higher than that along the axial direction. The fine grain strengthening was the main contributors to the strength of the as-casted AZ31 alloy. 展开更多

Previous study found that the pre-treatment of sewage sludge with nitrite improves the biogas production during the mono/two-phase anaerobic digestion (AD) using batch biochemical methane potential tests.In this study,the effects of nitrite on hydrolysisacidification,biogas production,volatile solids destruction and microbial composition in semi-continuous two-phase AD of sewage sludge were investigated.The addition of nitrite promotes sludge organic matter solubilization (+484%) and VFAs production (+98.9%),and causes an increase in the VS degradation rate during the AD process (+8.7%).The comparison of biogas production from the acidogenic and methanogenic reactors with or without the addition of nitrite implies that the nitrite has no significant effect on the overall biogas production of two-phase sludge AD process.High-throughput sequencing analysis shows that the microbial communities of bacteria and archaea in two-phase AD reactors significantly changes after the addition of nitrite.Vulcanibacillus (bacteria) and Candidatus Methanofastidiosum (archaea) become the dominant genera in the acidogenic and methanogenic reactors with the nitrite respectively.These findings provide new insights about using nitrite to promote the organic matter degradation of sewage sludge in a semicontinuous two-phase AD system. 展开更多
