A digital specimen comprised of aggregates and air voids is developed. In addition,a static compaction model consisting of a digital specimen and three plates is constructed and a series of evaluation indices such as mean contact force σMCF, wall stress in direction of zcoordinate σWSZZ, porosity and coordination numbers are presented to investigate the motion rules of coarse aggregates at different compaction displacements of 7. 5, 15 and 30 mm. The three-dimensional static compaction model is also verified with laboratory measurements. The results indicate that the compaction displacements are positively related to σMCF and σWSZZ, which increase gradually with the increase in iterative steps. When the compaction proceeds, the digital specimen porosity decreases, but the coordination number increases. First, different kinds of mathematical models for the basic properties (compressive strength, water retention rate, and consistency loss) of RAM with two kinds of admixtures, thickening powders (TP) and self-made powdery admixtures (SSCT) designed for RAM, and the replacement rates were established, while the average relative errors and relative standard errors of these models were calculated. This is beneficial for different applications starting from the less load applied to foundations and soil till the reduction of carnage capacity required for lifting precast units. In this paper, the production of light weight concrete from light local weight aggregate is investigated. Three candidate materials are used: crushed fired brick, vermiculite and light exfoliated clay aggregate (LECA). The first is available as the by-product of brick industry and the later two types are produced locally for different applications. Nine concrete mixes were made with same proportions and different aggregate materials. Physical and mechanical properties were measured for concrete in fresh and hardened states. Among these measured ones are unit weight, slump, compressive and tensile strength, and impact resistance. Also, the performance under elevated temperature was measured. Results show that reduction of unit weight up to 45%, of traditional concrete, can be achieved with 50% reduction in compressive strength. This makes it possible to get structural light weight concrete with compressive strength of 130 kg/cm2. Light weight concrete proved also to be more impact and fire resistant. However, as expected, it needs separate calibration curves for non-destructive evaluation. Following this experimental effort, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique was applied for simulating and predicting the physical and mechanical properties of light weight aggregate concrete in fresh and hardened states. The current paper introduced the (ANN) technique to investigate the effect of light local weight aggregate on the performance of the produced light weight concrete. The results of this study showed that the ANN method with less effort was very efficiently capable of simulating the effect of different aggregate materials on the performance of light weight concrete.展开更多

The tour-based approach is more realistic as it captures the intermediate stops of each truck and reflects the implications of those stops on vehicle miles traveled (VMT). The paper describes the truck tour-based model concept, and presents the framework of a truck tour-based travel demand forecasting approach. As a case study, Global Positioning System (GPS) truck data are used to determine origin, destination, and truck stops for trucks moving within the Birmingham, Alabama region. Such information is then utilized to model truck movements within the study region as individual truck tours. The tour-based model is ran, and the resulting performance measures are contrasted to those obtained from the conventional trip-based planning model used by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB). This case study demonstrates the feasibility of using a tour-based freight demand forecasting model as an alternative to the conventional 4-step process currently used to estimate truck trips in the Birmingham region. The results and lessons learned from the Birmingham case study are expected to improve truck movement modeling practices in the region and advance the accuracy of truck travel demand forecasting models at other locations in the future.展开更多

The results showed that with the increase in the reinforcement ratio and concrete strength grade, the crack bending moment(Mcr)and ultimate bending moment(Mu) of CARCB gradually increased. The characteristics of CARCB and OPRCB are basically the same. Furthermore, through increasing the concrete strength grade and reinforcement ratio, Mcr/Mu could be increased to delay the cracking of CARCB. As the load increased, crack width(w) would also increase. At the beginning of the loading, w increased slowly. And then it increased rapidly when the load reached to the ultimate load, which then led to beam failure. Meanwhile, with a comprehensive consideration of the effects of steel corrosion on the loss of steel section and the decrease of steel yield strength, a more reasonable calculation model for the flexural capacity of CARCB was proposed.展开更多

文摘On the basis of the three-dimensional(3D)random aggregate&mortar two-phase mesoscale finite element model,C++programming was used to identify the node position information of the interface between the aggregate and mortar elements. The nodes were discretized at this position and the zero-thickness cohesive elements were inserted. After that, the crack energy release rate fracture criterion based on the fracture mechanics theory was assigned to the failure criterion of the interface transition zone(ITZ)elements. Finally, the three-phase mesomechanical model based on the combined finite discrete element method(FDEM)was constructed.Based on this model, the meso-crack extension and macro-mechanical behaviour of coral aggregate concrete(CAC)under uniaxial compression were successfully simulated. The results demonstrated that the meso-mechanical model based on FDEM has excellent applicability to simulate the compressive properties of CAC.
文摘The brittleness generation mechanism of high strength lightweight aggregate con-crete(HSLWAC) was presented, and it was indicated that lightweight aggregate was the vulnerable spot, initiating brittleness. Based on the analysis of the brittleness failure by the load-deflection curve, the brittleness presented by HSLWAC was more prominent compared with ordinary lightweight aggregate concrete of the same strength grade. The model of brittleness failure was also established.
文摘The alpha stable self-similar stochastic process has been proved an effective model for high variable data traffic. A deep insight into some special issues and considerations on use of the process to model aggregated VBR video traffic is made. Different methods to estimate stability parameter a and self-similar parameter H are compared. Processes to generate the linear fractional stable noise (LFSN) and the alpha stable random variables are provided. Model construction and the quantitative comparisons with fractional Brown motion (FBM) and real traffic are also examined. Open problems and future directions are also given with thoughtful discussions.

文摘The failure characteristics of recycled concrete containing brick aggregates are still indistinct, especially how the angular aggregates effect the crack propagation.Based on the concept of modeled concrete, the development of cracks in concrete containing the natural aggregate and brick aggregate under a compression loading was studied. The strain distribution was analyzed with the Digital Image Correlation(DIC).The modeled aggregates include circular and squared ones, and the squared modeled aggregates were placed in different orientations, including 0°,22.5°and 45°.The results show that when the aggregate is placed at 45°,the upper and lower vertices of the aggregate lead to the highest critical strain concentration, therefore, cracks are easy to propagate from these areas and the strength of the corresponding modeled concrete is the lowest. When the modeled natural aggregate is placed at the orientation of 0°,the strain concentration first appears at the interface on both lateral sides of the aggregate. The brick aggregate has a lower elastic modulus and strength than the surrounding mortar. As a result, cracks always propagate through the brick aggregate, which is the primary reason for the low strength of the corresponding concrete.
文摘The developments in the field of construction raise the need for concrete with less weight. The results of this study showed that the ANN method with less effort was very efficiently capable of simulating the effect of different aggregate materials on the performance of light weight concrete.
文摘This research study explores the use of an innovative freight tour-based approach to model truck trips as an alternative to the conventional trip-based approach. The results and lessons learned from the Birmingham case study are expected to improve truck movement modeling practices in the region and advance the accuracy of truck travel demand forecasting models at other locations in the future.

文摘Underwater wireless sensor networks(UWSNs)rely on data aggregation to streamline routing operations by merging information at intermediate nodes before transmitting it to the sink. However, many existing data aggregation techniques are designed exclusively for static networks and fail to reflect the dynamic nature of underwater environments.Additionally, conventional multi-hop data gathering techniques often lead to energy depletion problems near the sink, commonly known as the energy hole issue.Moreover,cluster-based aggregation methods face significant challenges such as cluster head(CH)failures and collisions within clusters that degrade overall network performance. To address these limitations, this paper introduces an innovative framework, the Cluster-based Data Aggregation using Fuzzy Decision Model(CDAFDM),tailored for mobile UWSNs.The proposed method has four main phases:clustering,CH selection, data aggregation, and re-clustering.During CH selection,a fuzzy decision model is utilized to ensure efficient cluster head selection based on parameters such as residual energy, distance to the sink, and data delivery likelihood, enhancing network stability and energy efficiency. In the aggregation phase,CHs transmit a single, consolidated set of non-redundant data to the base station(BS),thereby reducing data duplication and saving energy. To adapt to the changing network topology, the re-clustering phase periodically updates cluster formations and reselects CHs.Simulation results show that CDAFDM outperforms current protocols such as CAPTAIN(Collection Algorithm for underwater oPTical-AcoustIc sensor Networks),EDDG(Event-Driven Data Gathering),and DCBMEC(Data Collection Based on Mobile Edge Computing)with a packet delivery ratio increase of up to 4%,an energy consumption reduction of 18%,and a data collection latency reduction of 52%.These findings highlight the framework’s potential for reliable and energy-efficient data aggregation mobile UWSNs.

文摘Road traffic noise is a significant environmental issue in urban areas with major health and economic implications for communities. Thus,a comprehensive understanding of tire/road noise mechanism is crucial for road pavement engineering. This study evaluates the noise behaviour of six innovative microsurfacing mixtures incorporating natural and artificial aggregates(geopolymers and crumb rubber)with varying particle size distributions and binders.A 2D laser analysis aims at collecting surface texture indicators, while noise-related indicators were derived according to ISO 10844 standards.Noise levels were predicted using the SPERoN^(R)model(statistical physical explanation of rolling noise),analysing the vibro-dynamic and the aerodynamic contributions separately.Correlations between tire/road noise levels predicted by the model and surface texture indicators elucidate the key factors influencing noise generation mechanism. The findings indicate that lower nominal maximum aggregate size(NMAS)and uniformly shaped artificial aggregates substantially mitigate rolling noise. Moreover, profiles with negative skewness and positive kurtosis exhibit reduced noise generation. The study highlights the limitations of traditional indicators like the estimated noise difference due to texture(ENDT)and highlights the g-factor from the Abbott curve as a more reliable predictor of pavement noise properties. These findings provide valuable insights for designing low-noise pavements with enhanced performance, offering new perspectives on the noise behaviour and acoustic properties of microsurfacing.

文摘Through the flexural behavior test of coral aggregate reinforced concrete beams(CARCB) and ordinary Portland reinforced concrete beams(OPRCB), and based on the parameters of concrete types, concrete strength grades and reinforcement ratios, the crack development, failure mode, midspan deflection and flexural capacity were studied, the relationships of bending moment-midspan deflection, load-longitudinal tensile reinforcement strain, load-maximum crack width were established, and a calculation model for the flexural capacity of CARCB was suggested. Meanwhile, with a comprehensive consideration of the effects of steel corrosion on the loss of steel section and the decrease of steel yield strength, a more reasonable calculation model for the flexural capacity of CARCB was proposed.
文摘The monomer agglomeration of nonmetallic inclusions was simulated with a diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) model of the fractal theory. The simulation study with a random two-dimensional diffusion was carried out. The results indicate that the DLA model can be used for the simulation of agglomeration behavior of the cluster-type inclusions. The morphology of clusters was observed with SEM and compared with the simulated agglomerates. The modelling procedure of the DLA model is applicable for the agglomeration process. The uncertainty of agglomeration process and the persuasive average agglomerative ratio was analyzed. The factors about the agglomerative ratio with the collision path distance and the size of particles or seed were discussed. The adherence of the nonmetallic inclusions on the dam, the weir and the walls of a tundish, and the absorption of inclusions by stopper or nozzle were also discussed.
