S and Co co-doped carbon catalysts were prepared via pyrolysis of MOF-71 and thiourea mixtures at 800℃at a mass ratio of MOF-71 to thiourea of 1:0.1 to effectively activate peroxymonosulfate(PMS)for methylene blue(MB)degradation.The effects of two different mixing routes were identified on the MB degradation performance.Particularly,the catalyst obtained by the alcohol solvent evaporation(MOF-AEP)mixing route could degrade 95.60%MB(50 mg/L)within 4 min(degradation rate:K=0.78 min^(-1)),which was faster than that derived from the direct grinding method(MOF-DGP,80.97%,K=0.39 min^(-1)).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the Co-S content of MOF-AEP(43.39at%)was less than that of MOF-DGP(54.73at%),and the proportion of C-S-C in MOF-AEP(13.56at%)was higher than that of MOF-DGP(10.67at%).Density functional theory calculations revealed that the adsorption energy of Co for PMS was -2.94 eV when sulfur was doped as C-S-C on the carbon skeleton,which was higher than that when sulfur was doped next to cobalt in the form of Co-S bond(-2.86 eV).Thus,the C-S-C sites might provide more contributions to activate PMS compared with Co-S.Furthermore,the degradation parameters,including pH and MOF-AEP dosage,were investigated.Finally,radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)measurements revealed that ^(1)O_(2)might be the primary catalytic species,whereas·O~(2-)might be the secondary one in degrading MB. 展开更多

Fenton and Fenton-like processes,which could produce highly reactive species to degrade organic contaminants,have been widely used in the field of wastewater treatment.Therein,the chemistry of Fenton process including the nature of active oxidants,the complicated reactions involved,and the behind reason for its strongly pH-dependent performance,is the basis for the application of Fenton and Fenton-like processes in wastewater treatment.Nevertheless,the conflicting views still exist about the mechanism of the Fenton process.For instance,reaching a unanimous consensus on the nature of active oxidants(hydroxyl radical or tetravalent iron)in this process remains challenging.This review comprehensively examined the mechanism of the Fenton process including the debate on the nature of active oxidants,reactions involved in the Fenton process,and the behind reason for the pH-dependent degradation of contaminants in the Fenton process.Then,we summarized several strategies that promote the Fe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ)cycle,reduce the competitive consumption of active oxidants by side reactions,and replace the Fenton reagent,thus improving the performance of the Fenton process.Furthermore,advances for the future were proposed including the demand for the high-accuracy identification of active oxidants and taking advantages of the characteristic of target contaminants during the degradation of contaminants by the Fenton process. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Advanced heart failure and transplant(AHFTC)teams are crucial in the management of patients in cardiogenic shock.We sought to explore the impact of AHFTC physicians on outcomes in patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO)support.AIM To determine whether outcomes differ in the care of ECMO patients when AHFTC physicians serve in a primary vs consultative role.METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 51 patients placed on veno-venous(VV)and veno-arterial(VA)ECMO between January 2015 and February 2023 at our institution.We compared ECMO outcomes between teams managed primarily by intensivists vs teams where AHFTC physicians played a direct role in ECMO management,including patient selection.Our primary outcome measure was survival to 30 days post hospital discharge.RESULTS For combined VA and VV ECMO patients,survival to 30 days post discharge in the AHFTC cohort was significantly higher(67%vs 30%,P=0.01),largely driven by a significantly increased 30-day post discharge survival in VA ECMO patients in the AHFTC group(64%vs 20%,P=0.05).CONCLUSION This study suggests that patients in shock requiring VA ECMO support may have improved survival 30 days after hospital discharge when an AHFTC team serves in a direct role in the selection and management of patients.Further studies are needed to validate this impact. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the therapeutic effects of Xiahuo Pingwei San(夏藿平胃散,XHPWS)on ulcerative colitis(UC)in mice and to explore the underlying mechanisms through a network pharmacology approach.METHODS:Ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF/MS)was utilized to identify the chemical composition and authenticate the active constituents of XHPWS,ensuring rigorous quality control across batches.A dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced UC model was established in C57BL/6 mice,which were treated with XHPWS in vivo.The efficacy against UC was assessed by measuring parameters such as body weight,disease activity index(DAI)scores,and colon length.Levels of inflammatory cytokines,including interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),in colonic tissue were evaluated using enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Histological analysis of colon sections was conducted using hematoxylin and eosin staining.A network pharmacology approach was employed to explore the mechanisms of XHPWS and to predict its potential targets in UC treatment.Predicted protein expressions in colonic tissue were validated using immune-ohistochemistry(IHC)and Western blotting techniques.RESULTS:XHPWS effectively alle via ted DSS-induced UC symptoms in mice,as evidenced by restored body weight,reduced colon shortening,and decreased DAI scores.Histopathological examination revealed that XHPWS significantly reduced intestinal inflammatory infiltration,restored intestinal epithelial permeability,and increased goblet cell count.Network pharmacology analysis identified 63 active compounds in XHPWS and suggested that it might target 35 potential proteins associated with UC treatment.Functional enrichment analysis indicated that the protective mechanism of XHPWS could be related to the advanced glycation end products-receptor for advanced glycation end products(AGE-RAGE)signaling pathway.Notably,quercetin,kaempferol,wogonin,and nobiletin,the main components of XHPWS,showed strong correlations with the core targets.Additionally,experimental validation demonstrated that XHPWS significantly decreased levels of inflammatory cytokines interleukin 6(IL-6),interleukin 1 beta(IL-1β),and tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α)in UC mice,while downregulating the expression of proteins related to the AGE-RAGE pathway.CONCLUSION:Our study demonstrated that XHPWS effectively alle via tes colitis symptoms and inflammation in UC mice,potentially through the regulation of the AGE-RAGE pathway.These findings provide strong evidence for the therapeutic potential of XHPWS in UC treatment,thereby broadening its clinical applications. 展开更多

Current research on heterogeneous advanced oxidation processes(HAOPs)predominantly emphasizes catalyst iteration and innovation.Significant efforts have been made to regulate the electron structure and optimize the electron distribution,thereby increasing the catalytic activity.However,this focus often overshadows an equally essential aspect of HAOPs:the adsorption effect.Adsorption is a critical initiator for triggering the interaction of oxidants and contaminants with heterogeneous catalysts.The efficacy of these interactions is influenced by a variety of physicochemical properties,including surface chemistry and pore sizes,which determine the affinities between contaminants and material surfaces.This dispar ity in affinity is pivotal because it underpins the selective removal of contaminants,especially in complex waste streams containing diverse contaminants and competing matrices.Consequently,understanding and mastering these interfacial interactions is fundamentally indispensable not only for improving pro cess efficiency but also for enhancing the selectivity of contaminant removal.Herein,we highlight the importance of adsorption-driven interfacial interactions for fundamentally elucidating the catalytic mechanisms of HAOPs.Such interactions dictate the overall performance of the treatment processes by balancing the adsorption,reaction,and desorption rates on the catalyst surfaces.Elucidating the adsorption effect not only shifts the paradigm in understanding HAOPs but also improves their practical ity in water treatment and wastewater decontamination.Overall,we propose that revisiting adsorption driven interfacial interactions holds great promise for optimizing catalytic processes to develop effective HAOP strategies. 展开更多

Advanced geological prediction is a crucial means to ensure safety and efficiency in tunnel construction.However,diff erent advanced geological forecasting methods have their own limitations,resulting in poor detection accuracy.Using multiple methods to carry out a comprehensive evaluation can eff ectively improve the accuracy of advanced geological prediction results.In this study,geological information is combined with the detection results of geophysical methods,including transient electromagnetic,induced polarization,and tunnel seismic prediction,to establish a comprehensive analysis method of adverse geology.First,the possible main adverse geological problems are determined according to the geological information.Subsequently,various physical parameters of the rock mass in front of the tunnel face can then be derived on the basis of multisource geophysical data.Finally,based on the analysis results of geological information,the multisource data fusion algorithm is used to determine the type,location,and scale of adverse geology.The advanced geological prediction results that can provide eff ective guidance for tunnel construction can then be obtained. 展开更多

Assessing the effectiveness and mechanisms of Fe/PS, Fe/H_(2)O_(2), and O_(3) treatment for water disinfection: Spotlight on VBNC bacteria 被引量:1

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) exhibit significant potential forwater disinfection dueto their generation of large quantities of highly oxidizing free radicals. However, the neglectof viable but nonculturable (VBNC) cells obscures their true disinfection efficacy and potentialenvironmental health risks. Therefore, the study evaluated the disinfection effectivenessand mechanisms of typical AOPs, including Fe/H_(2)O_(2), Fe/persulfate (PS), and O_(3), fromthe perspective of the production of VBNC bacteria. The results indicate that Fe/PS exhibitsthe strongest bacterial inactivation rate (99.94%), and the cells lose their ability to reactivate.Fe/H_(2)O_(2) and O_(3) induce more cells to enter the VBNC state compared to Fe/PS. Moreover,different AOPs result in varying levels of free radical production and utilization efficiency,with SO(4)^(·−) and O_(3) exhibiting greater selectivity in deactivating bacteria comparedto HO^(·). The inhibition of VBNC bacteria production by Fe/PS treatment may be attributed tothe combined action of HO^(·) and SO(4)^(·−) on microorganisms, leading to oxidative stress andmetabolic disruption in bacteria through the inhibition of biofilm formation and aminoacyltRNAbiosynthesis (p < 0.05), thereby causing direct bacterial death rather than entry intothe VBNC state. In contrast, Fe/H_(2)O_(2) and O_(3) result in the upregulation of the metabolismof alanine, aspartate, and glutamate, as well as styrene degradation capacity by the bacteria,leading to the production of more VBNC bacteria. Overall, the study offers insights intomitigating potential biological risks in water disinfection and developing environmentallyfriendly and efficient disinfection technologies. 展开更多

Accurate satellite data assimilation under all-sky conditions requires enhanced parameterization of scattering properties for frozen hydrometeors in clouds.This study aims to develop a nonspherical scattering look-up table that contains the optical properties of five hydrometeor types—rain,cloud water,cloud ice,graupel,and snow—for the Advanced Radiative Transfer Modeling System(ARMS)at frequencies below 220 GHz.The discrete dipole approximation(DDA)method is employed to compute the single-scattering properties of solid cloud particles,modeling these particles as aggregated roughened bullet rosettes.The bulk optical properties of the cloud layer are derived by integrating the singlescattering properties with a modified Gamma size distribution,specifically for distributions with 18 effective radii.The bulk phase function is then projected onto a series of generalized spherical functions,applying the delta-M method for truncation.The results indicate that simulations using the newly developed nonspherical scattering look-up table exhibit significant consistency with observations under deep convection conditions.In contrast,assuming spherical solid cloud particles leads to excessive scattering at mid-frequency channels and insufficient scattering at high-frequency channels.This improvement in radiative transfer simulation accuracy for cloudy conditions will better support the assimilation of allsky microwave observations into numerical weather prediction models.·Frozen cloud particles were modeled as aggregates of bullet rosettes and the optical properties at microwave range were computed by DDA.·A complete process and technical details for constructing a look-up table of ARMS are provided.·The ARMS simulations generally show agreement with observations of MWTS and MWHS under typhoon conditions using the new look-up table. 展开更多

ACKGROUND The hemoglobin glycation index(HGI)represents the discrepancy between the glucose management indicator(GMI)based on mean blood glucose levels and laboratory values of glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c).The HGI is a promising indicator for identifying individuals with excessive glycosylation,facilitating personalized evaluation and prediction of diabetic complications.However,the factors influencing the HGI in patients with type 1 diabetes(T1D)remain unclear.Autoimmune destruction of pancreaticβcells is central in T1D pathogenesis,yet insulin resistance can also be a feature of patients with T1D and their coexistence is called“double diabetes”(DD).However,knowledge regarding the relationship between DD features and the HGI in T1D is limited.AIM To assess the association between the HGI and DD features in adults with T1D.METHODS A total of 83 patients with T1D were recruited for this cross-sectional study.Laboratory HbA1c and GMI from continuous glucose monitoring data were collected to calculate the HGI.DD features included a family history of type 2 diabetes,overweight/obesity/central adiposity,hypertension,atherogenic dyslipidemia,an abnormal percentage of body fat(PBF)and/or visceral fat area(VFA)and decreased estimated insulin sensitivity.Skin autofluorescence of advanced glycation end products(SAF-AGEs),diabetic complications,and DD features were assessed,and their association with the HGI was analyzed.RESULTS A discrepancy was observed between HbA1c and GMI among patients with T1D and DD.A higher HGI was associated with an increased number of SAF-AGEs and a higher prevalence of diabetic microangiopathy(P=0.030),particularly retinopathy(P=0.031).Patients with three or more DD features exhibited an eight-fold increased risk of having a high HGI,compared with those without DD features(adjusted odds ratio=8.12;95%confidence interval:1.52-43.47).Specifically,an elevated PBF and/or VFA and decreased estimated insulin sensitivity were associated with high HGI.Regression analysis identified estimated insulin sensitivity and VFA as factors independently associated with HGI.CONCLUSION In patients with T1D,DD features are associated with a higher HGI,which represents a trend toward excessive glycosylation and is associated with a higher prevalence of chronic diabetic complications. 展开更多

The intricate hierarchical structure of musculoskeletal tissues,including bone and interface tissues,necessitates the use of complex scaffold designs and material structures to serve as tissue-engineered substitutes.This has led to growing interest in the development of gradient bone scaffolds with hierarchical structures mimicking the extracellular matrix of native tissues to achieve improved therapeutic outcomes.Building on the anatomical characteristics of bone and interfacial tissues,this review provides a summary of current strategies used to design and fabricate biomimetic gradient scaffolds for repairing musculoskeletal tissues,specifically focusing on methods used to construct compositional and structural gradients within the scaffolds.The latest applications of gradient scaffolds for the regeneration of bone,osteochondral,and tendon-to-bone interfaces are presented.Furthermore,the current progress of testing gradient scaffolds in physiologically relevant animal models of skeletal repair is discussed,as well as the challenges and prospects of moving these scaffolds into clinical application for treating musculoskeletal injuries. 展开更多

To the Editor:Chylothorax is a serious disease characterized by rupture of the thoracic tube and milky exudation from the pleural cavity,which can lead to a variety of pathological symptoms and is life threatening[1].Chylothorax is common after thoracic surgery or trauma.The non-traumatic chylothorax is rare in the clinical practice,and the etiology is complex and often associated with the primary disease[2].Chylothorax is a rare complication of patients with advanced cirrhosis[3],most of which are manifested as dyspnea,cough,chest pain,and the medical treatment effect is relatively poor.We performed orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT)in a patient with advanced cirrhosis combined with massive chylothorax and chyloperitoneum.The 2-year follow-up showed that the patient’s liver function was stable and no recurrence of chylothorax. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Owing to the absence of specific symptoms in early-stage gastric cancer,most patients are diagnosed at intermediate or advanced stages.As a result,treatment often shifts from surgery to other therapies,with chemotherapy and targeted therapies being the primary options for advanced gastric cancer treatment.A total of 116 patients with advanced gastric cancer,admitted from January 2021 to December 2023,were selected and divided into two groups of 58 each using the random number table method.The control group received FOLFOX4 chemothe-rapy(oxaliplatin+calcium+folinate+5-fluorouracil)combined with intravenous sindilizumab.The observation group received the same treatment as the control group,supplemented by oral administration of Senqi Shiyiwei granules.Both groups underwent treatment cycles of 3 weeks,with a minimum of two cycles.The therapeutic efficacy,immune mechanisms,and treatment-related toxicity and side effects were compared between the groups.The objective remission rate in the observation group(55.17%)was higher than that of the control group(36.21%)(P<0.05).After two treatment cycle,CD3+,CD4+,and CD4+/CD8+levels were higher in the observation group compared to the control group,while CD8+,regulatory T cells,and natural killer cells were lower(P<0.05).Additionally,the incidence of leukopenia,nausea,and vomiting was lower in observed group(P<0.05).No significant differences were observed in the incidence of other adverse reactions(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Adjuvant therapy with Shenqixian granules may enhance the efficacy of simudizumab combined with FOLFOX4 chemotherapy in advanced gastric cancer and the immune function by increasing immune cell counts,making it a valuable option in clinical treatment. 展开更多

Biomass-derived heteroatom self-doped cathode catalysts has attracted considerable interest for electrochemical advanced oxidation processes(EAOPs)due to its high performance and sustainable synthesis.Herein,we illustrated the morphological fates of waste leaf-derived graphitic carbon(WLGC)produced from waste ginkgo leaves via pyrolysis temperature regulation and used as bifunctional cathode catalyst for simultaneous H_(2)O_(2) electrochemical generation and organic pollutant degradation,discovering S/N-self-doping shown to facilitate a synergistic effect on reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation.Under the optimum temperature of 800℃,the WLGC exhibited a H_(2)O_(2) selectivity of 94.2%and tetracycline removal of 99.3%within 60 min.Density functional theory calculations and in-situ Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy verified that graphitic N was the critical site for H_(2)O_(2) generation.While pyridinic N and thiophene S were the main active sites responsible for OH generation,N vacancies were the active sites to produce ^(1)O_(2) from O_(2).The performance of the novel cathode for tetracycline degradation remains well under a wide pH range(3–11),maintaining excellent stability in 10 cycles.It is also industrially applicable,achieving satisfactory performance treating in real water matrices.This system facilitates both radical and non-radical degradation,offering valuable advances in the preparation of cost-effective and sustainable electrocatalysts and hold strong potentials in metal-free EAOPs for organic pollutant degradation. 展开更多

Owing to outstanding hydrophilicity and ionic interaction,layered double hydroxides(LDHs)have emerged as a promising carrier for high performance catalysts.However,the synthesis of new specialized catalytic LDHs for degradation of antibiotics still faces some challenges.In this study,a CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH composite catalyst was synthesized using a hydrothermal coprecipitation method.Comprehensive characterization reveals that the surface of MgAl-LDH is covered with nanometer CoFe_(2)O_(4) particles.The specific surface area of CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH is 82.84 m^(2)·g^(-)1,which is 2.34 times that of CoFe_(2)O_(4).CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH has a saturation magnetic strength of 22.24 A·m^(2)·kg^(-1) facilitating efficient solid-liquid separation.The composite catalyst was employed to activate peroxymonosulfate(PMS)for the efficient degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride(TCH).It is found that the catalytic performance of CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH significantly exceeds that of CoFe_(2)O_(4).The maximum TCH removal reaches 98.2%under the optimal conditions([TCH]=25 mg/L,[PMS]=1.5 mmol/L,CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH=0.20 g/L,pH 7,and T=25℃).Coexisting ions in the solution,such as SO_(4)^(2-),Cl-,H_(2)PO_(4)^(-),and CO_(3)^(2-),have a negligible effect on catalytic performance.Cyclic tests demonstrate that the catalytic performance of CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH remains 67.2%after five cycles.Mechanism investigations suggest that O_(2)^(•-)and ^(1)O_(2) produced by CoFe_(2)O_(4)/MgAl-LDH play a critical role in the catalytic degradation. 展开更多
