Purpose: This study examines acknowledgments to libraries in the journal literature, as well as the efficacy of using Web of Science(WoS) to locate general acknowledgment text.Design/methodology/approach: This mixed-m...Purpose: This study examines acknowledgments to libraries in the journal literature, as well as the efficacy of using Web of Science(WoS) to locate general acknowledgment text.Design/methodology/approach: This mixed-methods approach quantifies and characterizes acknowledgments to libraries in the journal literature. Using WoS's Funding Text field, the acknowledgments for six peer universities were identified and then characterized. The efficacy of using WoS to locate library acknowledgments was assessed by comparing the WoS Funding Text search results to the actual acknowledgment text found in the articles.Findings: Acknowledgments to libraries were found in articles at all six peer universities, though the absolute and relative numbers were quite low(< 0.5%). Most of the library acknowledgments were for resources(collections, funding, etc.), and many were concentrated in natural history(e.g. zoology). Examination of Texas A&M University zoology articles found that 91.7% of the funding information came from "acknowledgments" and not specifically a funding acknowledgment section. The WoS Funding Text search found 56% of the library acknowledgments compared to a search of the actual acknowledgment text in the articles.Research limitations: Limiting publications to journals, using a single truncated search term, and including only six research universities in the United States.Practical implications: This study examined library acknowledgments, but the same approach could be applied to searches of other keywords, institutions/organizations, individuals, etc. While not specifically designed to search general acknowledgments, WoS's Funding Text field can be used as an exploratory tool to search acknowledgments beyond funding. We show that an aggregated Interest in Named Data Networking (NDN) may fail to retrieve desired data since the Interest previously sent upstream for the same content is judged as a duplicate one and then dropped by an...We show that an aggregated Interest in Named Data Networking (NDN) may fail to retrieve desired data since the Interest previously sent upstream for the same content is judged as a duplicate one and then dropped by an upstream node due to its multipath forwarding. Furthermore, we propose NDRUDAF, a NACK based mechanism that enhances the Interest forwarding and enables Detection and fast Recovery from such Unanticipated Data Access Failure. In the NDN enhanced with NDRUDAF, the router that aggregates the Interest detects such unanticipated data access failure based on a negative acknowledgement from the upstream node that judges the Interest as a duplicate one. Then the router retransmits the Interest as soon as possible on behalf of the requester whose Interest is aggregated to fast recover from the data access failure. We qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the performance of the NDN enhanced with our proposed NDRUDAF and compare it with that of the present NDN. Our experimental results validate that NDRUDAF improves the system performance in case of such unanticipated data access failure in terms of data access delay and network resource utilization efficiency at routers.展开更多

The demand for Electronic Shelf Labels(ESL),according to the Internet of Things(IoT)paradigm,is expected to grow considerably in the immediate future.Various wireless communication standards are currently contending t...The demand for Electronic Shelf Labels(ESL),according to the Internet of Things(IoT)paradigm,is expected to grow considerably in the immediate future.Various wireless communication standards are currently contending to gain an edge over the competition and provide the massive connectivity that will be required by a world in which everyday objects are expected to communicate with each other.Low-Power Wide-Area Networks(LPWANs)are continuously gaining momentum among these standards,mainly thanks to their ability to provide long-range coverage to devices,exploiting license-free frequency bands.The main theme of this work is one of the most prominent LPWAN technologies,LoRa.The purpose of this research is to provide long-range,less intermediate node,less energy dissipation,and a cheaper ESL system.Much research has already been done on designing the LoRaWAN network,not capable to make a reliable network.LoRa is using different gateways to transmit the same data,collision,data jamming,and data repetition are expected.According to the transmission behavior of LoRa,50%of data is lost.In this paper,the Improved Backoff Algorithm with synchronization technique is used to decrease overlapping and data loss.Besides,the improved Adaptive Data Rate algorithm(ADR)avoids the collision in concurrently transmitted data by using different Spreading Factors(SFs).The allocation of SF has the main role in designing LoRa based network to minimize the impact of the intra-interference,cost function,and Euclidean distance.For this purpose,the K-means machine learning algorithm is used for clustering.The data rate model is using an intra-slicing technique based on Maximum Likelihood Estimation(MLE).The data rate model includes three critical communication slices,High Critical Communication(HCC),Medium Critical Communication(MCC),and Low Critical Communication(LCC),having the specified number of End devices(EDs),payload budget delay,and data rate.Finally,different combinations of gateways are used to build ESL for 200 electronic shelf labels.展开更多
