Although applications of this algorithm are continuously emerging,a systematic performance evaluation is still lacking. This forms the primary aim of the present work. Three warping schemes in the family of LK algorithm: forward/inverse/symmetric warping, are evaluated in a prototype flow of a hierarchy of multiple two-dimensional vortices. Second-order Newton descent is also considered here. The accuracy & efficiency of all these LK variants are investigated under a large domain of various influential parameters. It is found that the constant displacement constraint, which is a necessary building block for GPU acceleration, is the most critical issue in affecting LK algorithm's accuracy, which can be somehow ameliorated by using second-order Newton descent. Moreover, symmetric warping outbids the other two warping schemes in accuracy level, robustness to noise, convergence speed and tolerance to displacement gradient, and might be the first choice when applying LK algorithm to PIV measurement.展开更多

However, the processing of Zn alloys micro-tubes (named slender-diameter and thin-walled tubes) is very difficult due to their HCP crystal structure and unfavorable mechanical properties. This study aimed to develop a novel technique to produce micro-tube of Zn alloy with good performance for biodegrad- able vascular stent application. In the present work, a processing method that combined drilling, cold rolling and optimized drawing was proposed to produce the novel Zn-5Mg-1Fe (wt%) alloy micro- tubes. The micro-tube with outer diameter of 2.5 mm and thickness of 130 μm was fabricated by this method and its dimension errors are within 10 μm. The micro-tube exhibits a fine and homogeneous microstructure, and the ultimate tensile strength and ductility are more than 220 MPa and 20% respectively. In addition, the micro-tube and stents of Zn alloy exhibit superior in vitro corrosion and expansion performance. It could be concluded that the novel Zn alloy micro-tube fabricated by above method might be a promising candidate material for biodegradable stent.展开更多

This system currently provides data summaries for several per- formance measures, one of them being turning movement counts collected by microwave sensors. As this system became public, there was a need to evaluate the accuracy of the data placed on the SPMs. A large-scale data collection was carried out to meet this need. Vehicles in the Hi-resolution data from microwave sensors were matched with the vehicles by ground-truth volume count data. Matching vehicles from the microwave sensor data and the ground-truth data manually collected required significant effort, A spreadsheet- based data analysis procedure was developed to carry out the task. A mixed model analysis of variance was used to analyze the effects of the factors considered on turning volume count accuracy. The analysis found that approach volume level and number of approach lanes would have significant effect on the accuracy of turning volume counts but the location of the sensors did not significantly affect the accuracy of turning volume counts. In addition, it was found that the location of lanes in relation to the sensor did not significantly affect the accuracy of lane-by-lane volume counts. This indicated that accu- racy analysis could be performed by using total approach volumes without comparing specific turning counts, that is, left-turn, through and right-turn movements. In general, the accuracy of approach volume counts collected by microwave sensors were within the margin of error that traffic engineers could accept. The procedure taken to perform the analysis and a summary of accuracy of volume counts for the factor combinations considered are presented in this paper.展开更多
