With the deep advancement of modern educational informatization,the micro-video teaching model has gradually become an effective approach for promoting the innovation and reform of experimental teaching,owing to its advantages such as intuitive visualization,repeatability,and flexible learning.This paper addressed the limitations of the traditional zoology experiment teaching model,which include insufficiently clear teacher demonstrations,limited class time,and the difficulty of accommodating individual student differences.Accordingly,we systematically analyzed the main characteristics,implementation models,and effectiveness of the micro-video teaching model in the Zoology Experiment course.We also discussed the primary challenges encountered during its teaching practice and proposed corresponding recommendations for improvement.This analysis aimed to provide a theoretical reference for the teaching reform of Zoology Experiment in normal universities. 展开更多

Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that universities should address fundamental issues such as what kind of people does education cultivate.A series of documents also emphasize the comprehensive integration of curriculum ideological and political education into the teaching of higher education majors.As an important practical teaching link of biology and related undergraduate majors,field practice of zoology and botany provides an opportunity for curriculum ideological and political integration.This paper analyzed the teaching cases of field practice of zoology and botany in universities in China,and explored curriculum ideological and political elements,including patriotism education,cultivation of sustainable development and ecological civilization consciousness,cultivation of scientific spirit and innovation consciousness,cultivation of unity and cooperation spirit,cultivation of hard work spirit through labor education,life education,cultivation of safety consciousness and cultivation of humanistic quality.Furthermore,this paper expounded the important role of field practice in improving students comprehensive quality,and put forward that we should pay attention to ideological and political construction of field practice of zoology and botany in the future,and make contributions to the cause of higher education and ecological civilization construction in China. 展开更多

This essay reflects on the reception of Lu Xun's short story "The Loner" (Gudu zhe, alternately translated as "The Lone Wolf, The Misanthrope," and "The Isolate") in American classrooms, where students have sometimes wondered whether that character might be read as "queer." It suggests that the title character's unusual and self-imposed celibacy is probably best explained by his belief, in a very general sense, in the foundational values of zoology as practiced in Japan and China in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and thus that the story may be a better gateway to understanding the ways in which Lu Xun envisioned the mixed impact of new political economies on private life than a source text for queer studies. At the same time, however, this essay emphasizes that in "The Loner," as elsewhere, accounting for the "heterosexual imperative" of early zoology (e.g., with its emphases on animal husbandry, propagation, reproduction) can have meaningful consequences for "queering" interpretations of received texts from literature, history of science, and beyond. 展开更多

The current challenges(increasing levels of integration in the biological sciences)facing the teaching of zoology and the structure of the zoology curriculum are explored herein.General context is provided and a more focused scrutiny of the situation in North America is presented.The changing emphases in more broadly-based biological sciences programs in North America are outlined,and their influence on the role of zoology as part of fundamental biological training is considered.The longer term impact of such changes in emphasis on the teaching of zoology is discussed,and the central role that zoology can play in dealing with both science content and science education is advanced.Based upon a focal workshop on the future of the zoology curriculum in Canada,a perspective on the challenges facing curriculum evolution is provided.Extensive curriculum redesign is called for to ensure that zoology provides a broad-scale integrative approach to the understanding of biodiversity in evolutionary,ecologi-cal and functional contexts.Barriers to,and drivers of change are identified and the need for collaborative ap-proaches to curricular evolution is emphasized. 展开更多

Trachypithecus,which currently contains 20 species divided into four groups,is the most speciose and geographically dispersed genus among Asian colobines.Despite several morphological and molecular studies,however,its evolutionary history and phylogeography remain poorly understood.Phayre’s langur(Trachypithecus phayrei) is one of the most widespread members of the genus,but details on its actual distribution and intraspecific taxonomy are limited and controversial.Thus,to elucidate the evolutionary history of Trachypithecus and to clarify the intraspecific taxonomy and distribution of T.phayrei,we sequenced 41 mitochondrial genomes from georeferenced fecal samples and museum specimens,including two holotypes.Phylogenetic analyses revealed a robustly supported phylogeny of Trachypithecus,suggesting that the T.pileatus group branched first,followed by the T.francoisi group,and the T.cristatus and T.obscurus groups most recently.The four species groups diverged from each other 4.5-3.1 million years ago(Ma),while speciation events within these groups occurred much more recently(1.6-0.3 Ma).Within T.phayrei,we found three clades that diverged 1.0-0.9 Ma,indicating the existence of three rather than two taxa.Following the phylogenetic species concept and based on genetic,morphological,and ecological differences,we elevate the T.phayrei subspecies to species level,describe a new species from central Myanmar,and refine the distribution of the three taxa.Overall,our study highlights the importance of museum specimens and provides new insights not only into the evolutionary history of T.phayrei but the entire Trachypithecus genus as well. 展开更多
