In this paper, we quantified land landscape change of Yulin in this area between 1985 and 2000 using remote sensing and GIS. It was found that fallow landscape decreased by 125,148 hm^2 while grassland and woodland increased by 107,975 hm^2 and 17,157 hm^2, respectively. The major factors responsible for these changes are identified as the change in the government policy on preserving the environment, continued growth in mining, and urbanization. The efforts in restoring the deteriorated ecosystem have reaped certain benefits in reducing the spatial extent of sandy land through replacement by non-irrigated farmland, woodland and grassland. On the other hand, continued expansion of mining industry and urbanization has exerted adverse impacts on the land landscape. At present regional economic development conflicts directly with the protection of the natural environment. Such a conflict has caused the destruction to the land resources and fragmentation of the landscape accompanied by land desertification, the case is even serious in some localities.展开更多

To discuss the spatial-temporal dynamics of SOC in arable layer in reversed desertification area, a case study was conducted in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, China. Data of SOC were based on general soil survey in 1982 and repeated soil sampling in 2003. Soil organic carbon content (SOCC) was determined by K2Cr3O7-FeSO4 titration method, and soil organic carbon density (SOCD) was calculated by arithmetic average and area weighted average method, respectively. On average, SOCC and SOCD of the arable layer in the study area from 1982 to 2003 had increased 0.51g/kg and 0.16kg/m2, respectively. Considering main soil types, the widest distributed Arid-Sandic Entisols had lowest values and increments of SOCC and SOCD during the study period; while the second widest Los-Orthic Entisols had higher values and increments of SOCC and SOCD, compared to the mean values of the whole region. The results indicated that reversed desertification process was due to the modification of land use and management practices, such as natural vegetation recovery, planting grass, turning arable land to grassland, and soil and water conservation etc., which can improve SOCC and SOCD and thus enhance soil C sequestration.展开更多

Firstly, with the full understanding of the background and exposure risk source of the research area, the vulnerability indexes were screened by the SERV model, and the index system was constructed to assess the characteristics of the local eco-environment. Secondly, with the aid of RS and GIS, this study measured the spatial differentiation and evolution of the social-ecological systems in Yulin City during 2000–2015 and explored intrinsic reasons for the spatial-temporal evolution of vulnerability. The results are as follows:(1) The spatial pattern of Yulin City's SESs vulnerability is "high in northwest and southeast and low along the Great Wall". Although the degree of system vulnerability decreased significantly during the study period and the system development trend improved, there is a sharp spatial difference between the system vulnerability and exposure risk.(2) The evolution of system vulnerability is influenced by the risk factors of exposure, and the regional vulnerability and the spatial heterogeneity of exposure risk are affected by the social sensitivity, economic adaptive capacity and other factors. Finally, according to the uncertainty of decision makers, the future scenarios of regional vulnerability are simulated under different decision risks by taking advantage of the OWA multi-criteria algorithm, and the vulnerability of the regional system under different development directions was predicted based on the decision makers' rational risk interval.展开更多

By analyzing its sequence and grain-size composition some views have been put forward in this paper as follows. The layers of sand, loess and palaeosol in Yulin section were respectively formed by wind and the pedogenesis on parent material of the sand and loess. Since 1.1Ma B. P., Ordos Desert has alternately experienced 11 stages of shifting dunes under extreme cold-dry climatic environment, 7 stages of fixed and semi-fixed dunes and 8 stages of dust (loess) under cold-dry climatic condition; and the pedogenesis environment under 15 times of warm-humid climate and 3 times of temperate-humid climate (brownish-drab soils and black soils formed respectively). The aeolian sand had already existed in Ordos Desert at latest by 1.1Ma B. P., and from that time on it has undergone a series of alternative processes of shifting sands, fixed and semi-fixed dunes, loess and soils. Ordos Desert has been situated in the transitional belt of the Mongolian High Pressure and margin of the southeast summer monsoon since 1.1Ma B. P., and influenced repeatedly by migration of the lithofacies belts of shifting sands, fixed and semi-fixed dunes, loess and soils, which have been caused by the climatic fluctuations of glacial and interglacial periods.展开更多

By applying a Romani type classification method the groundwater of Yulin city was classified into nine categories by type, i.e., Ca-HCO3, Na-HCO3, Na-HCO3-SO4-Cl, Na-HCO3-SO4, Na-Cl, Na-Cl-HCO3, Na-Ca- HCO3, Ca-Cl-HCO3 and Ca-HCO3-SO4-Cl. A principal component analysis was carried out in order to analyze the groundwater environment. From this analysis we considered that the information collected could be represented by 21 indices from which we extracted seven principal components, which, respectively, accounted for 37.4%, 13.0%, 8.1%, 7.2%, 6.3%, 5.9% and 4.6% of the total variation. The results show that the groundwater environment of this region is largely determined by characteristic components of the natural groundwater background. One part of the water was polluted by leaching/eluviation of solid waste generated from coal mining. Another part of the ground water was contaminated by acid mine water from the coal layer and from improper irrigation. In addition, geological and hydrogeological conditions also cause changes in the water environment.展开更多

The overall change of a landscape is the result of complex and interacting natural and spontaneous processes and planned actions by man. However, numerous activities by a large number of individuals are not concerted and contribute to the autonomous evolution of the landscape in a similar way as natural processes do. There is a well-established need to detect land use and ecological change so that appropriate policies for the regional sustainable development can be developed. Landscape change detection is considered to be effectively repeated surveillance and needs especially strict protocols to identify landscape change. This paper developed a series of technical frameworks on landscape detection based on Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) Data. Through human-machine interactive interpretation, the interpretation precision was 92.00% in 1986 and 89.73% in 2000. Based on the interpretation results of TM images and taking Yulin prefecture as a case study area, the area of main landscape types was summarized respectively in 1986 and 2000. The landscape pattern changes in Yulin could be divided into ten types.展开更多

Spatial and temporal change of vegetation Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and its relationship with climate change and human activities were analyzed based on MODIS NDVI data from 2000 to 2015, as well as annual temperature and precipitation data from 2000 to 2014, and linear trend analysis, correlation and buffer analysis were used. Result showed: 1) NDVI value was small and vegetation cover was low, but NDVI had a linear growth rate of 0.0096/annum from 2000 to 2015 in Yulin area. The area of growth trend accounted for 97.06% of the total area, while the area with decreased rate was small, which mainly had correlation with human activities, and was distributed in the southwest mountain area, urban neighborhood, and river valley in the middle and east of Yulin area. 2) Correlation analysis between NDVI and temperature, precipitation, respectively, reflected that negative correlation was between NDVI and temperature, while positive correlation was between NDVI and precipitation. Furthermore, the role of precipitation was higher than that of temperature in the process of interaction between NDVI and temperature, precipitation. 3) NDVI change process in the range of human activities indicated that the intensity of human activities in buffer_city area was higher than that in buffer_county area. Buffer_city area was divided into within 5 km area with dramatic impact by human activities, and from 5 km to 9 km area with less impact by human activities, and outside 9 km area with mini-affected by human activities.展开更多

This paper aims to explore how the Yulin coal-mine base can improve its conjunctive utilization of water resources. Integrated utilization is proposed by establishing a multi-objective, multi-water-source, optimal-allocation model;setting up an integrated information platform;and giving very useful measures and policy suggestions to the local government. Finally, this research can also serve as an example of integrated water utilization for other energy bases.展开更多

The main conclusions are as follows. There is growing tendency of water resources overloading. According to the result of model simulation,by2015,the overload rate of population size will be 1. 04. By 2020,the overload rate of population size will grow up to 1. 08. The oversized population mainly comes from cities and towns. The overload rate for cities and towns in 2015 and 2020 is 1. 89 and 1. 73,respectively. With the expansion of cities and industries, suburban areas could have a great potential for carrying population, because lots of suburban people may move to cities and towns according to prediction. In view of the above-mentioned facts, the population size should be controlled in a reasonable range.展开更多

The landscape pattern changes in Yulin could be divided into ten types.
文摘Yulin is a typical ecological fragile area in China, and its vegetation ecosystem is so fragile that could be vulnerable to climate change and human activities. Buffer_city area was divided into within 5 km area with dramatic impact by human activities, and from 5 km to 9 km area with less impact by human activities, and outside 9 km area with mini-affected by human activities.
文摘Shortages in water resources and the fragile ecosystem by coal-mine water affect the Yulin coal-mine base in northwest China, so taking coal-mine water into account is an important issue for the sustainable management of water resources. Finally, this research can also serve as an example of integrated water utilization for other energy bases.
文摘The origin and distribution of Upper Paleozoic reservoirs pressure in mid-northem Ordos Basin has attracted widespread attention in recent years. The reservoir pressure of Sulige area shows characteristics of basically subnormal pressure, and the reservoir pressure of Yulin area shows characteristics of basically normal hydrostatic pressure. In the sense of structural location,
文摘In Yulin dialect, there are three usages of“ji(几)”:interrogative pronouns, numerals, and degree adverbs. When used as an interrogative pronoun,it is generally used to inquire about the number and degree where the inquiry number is generally small, but the number can be large when it is used in asking about age. When used as a number,it can represent not only integers between one and ten,but also decimal part. When used as a degree adverb, there are rich syntactic formats such as“ji(几)+verb”,“ji(几)+adjective”,different formats indicating different meanings.Compared with Mandarin, the usage of Yulin dialect“ji(几)”is more diverse. We also analyze the use of“ji(几)”from a diachronic perspective and finally we propose that due to the reanalysis of the syntactic format and the change of semantics, the“ji(几)”is further grammaticalized from interrogative pronoun to degree adverb.

文摘Yulin was belong to "Hundred Yue" in ancient time, the Zhuang and Yao nationality was the indigenous people here. After the Qin and Han Dynasties, the central plains people constantly migrating to the south not only brought the advanced agricultural technology, but also a lot of Hafts customs and folk music, including the "picking flower lanterns", "tea-picking drama" and other folk music cultures which combined with the local pristine "tea plucking" folk songs, and then the "tea plucking" music culture began to have its own unique artistic features. These characteristics contributed to highlight the beauty of Yulin tea plucking opera. This article mainly discusses Yulin tea-picking Drama's rich aesthetic connotation through elaborating its music, lyrics, the theme, dancing, and clothing etc.

文摘Assessing the water resource carrying capacity is beneficial for measuring the scale of industry and population agglomeration, and also avoiding the contradiction between increasing people and decreasing available water resource, due to the expansion of industry and city size.Based on the prediction model of optimum population development size,by using hydrological data, also with the demographic data from 1956 to 2010,this article analyzes and predicts the urban moderate scale under the limit of the water resource in the future of Yulin City by GIS. In view of the above-mentioned facts, the population size should be controlled in a reasonable range.
