The high labor demand during rice seedling cultivation and transplantation poses a significant challenge in advancing machine-transplanted rice cultivation.This problem may be solved by increasing the seeding rate during seedling production while reducing the number of seedling trays.This study conducted field experiments from 2021 to 2022,using transplanting seedling ages of 10 and 15 days to explore the effects of 250,300,and 350 g/tray on the seedling quality,mechanical transplantation quality,yields,and economic benefits of rice.The commonly used combination of 150 g/tray with a 20-day seedling age in rice production was used as CK.The cultivation of seedlings under a high seeding rate and short seedling age significantly affected seedling characteristics,but there was no significant difference in seedling vitality compared to CK.The minimum number of rice trays used in the experiment was observed in the treatment of 350-10(300 g/tray and 10-day seedling age),only 152-155 trays ha^(-1),resulting in a 62%reduction in the number of trays needed.By increasing the seeding rate of rice,missed holes during mechanical transplantation decreased by 2.8 to 4%.The treatment of 300-15(300 g/tray and 15-day seedling age)achieved the highest yields and economic gains.These results indicated that using crop straw boards can reduce the application of seedling trays.On that basis,rice yields can be increased by raising the seeding rate and shortening the seedling age of rice without compromising seedling quality. 展开更多

Nitrogen(N)reduction combined with organic fertilizer has become a highly popular fertilization method,meeting the sustainable development of agriculture.A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of N reduction(NR)and combined application of organic fertilizer(OF)on N utilization,yield,and quality of hybrid indica rice in the karst area.Using rice‘Yixiangyou2115’as the material,a split-plot design experiment was carried out with OF application rate as the main plots and NR rate as the subplots.The OF application rate had three levels:M0(0 kg/ha),M1(low OF,1673 kg/ha),and M2(high amount OF,3346 kg/ha).The NR rate had four levels:R1(NR rate 0%),R2(NR rate 25%),R3(NR rate 50%),and R4(NR rate 100%).Rice yield was the highest under R3 in the same amount of OF,and compared with R1M0,the yield of R2M2 increased significantly.In terms of N efficiency,with the increase in the N reduction rate,N recovery efficiency,agronomic efficiency(AE),and partial factor productivity(PFP)showed a continuous increase trend under the same amount of OF,and compared with R1M0,the AE,physiological efficiency,PFP of 50%N reduction with low or high amounts of organic fertilizer were significantly increased.Rice quality exhibit different patterns of change with different NR rate and OF application rate.In summary,NR combined with OF fertilization mode was conducive to the improvement of N efficiency,yield,and quality of hybrid indica rice. 展开更多

Optimal drip irrigation leaching amount and timing enhanced cotton fiber yield, quality and nitrogen uptake by regulating soil salinity and nitrate nitrogen in saline-alkaline fields

Improving cotton fiber quality can increase the economic income of cotton farmers, but achieving high fiber quality without decreasing cotton fiber yield remains a major challenge in saline-alkaline cotton fields. A field experiment was conducted in 2020 and 2021 on saline-alkaline soil with cotton under drip irrigation to examine how amount and timing of leaching affected soils salinity, cotton fiber yield and quality. There were five leaching amounts(CK: 0 mm, W1: 75 mm, W2: 150 mm, W3: 225 mm and W4: 300 mm) and three leaching timings(T1: once at the seedling stage, T2: twice at the seedling and budding stages, and T3: thrice at the seedling, budding and pollen-setting stages). Soil salinity, soil nitrate nitrogen(NO_(3)-N), cotton nitrogen(N) uptake, irrigation water productivity(IWP), cotton fiber yield, fiber length, fiber uniformity, fiber strength, fiber elongation, micronaire and fiber quality index(FQI) were investigated. The results indicated that soil salinity and NO_(3)-N reduced with increasing leaching amount. The N uptake of cotton bolls was greater than in cotton leaves, stems and roots, and total N accumulation increased with increasing leaching amount. The optimal cotton fiber yield and IWP occurred in treatment W3T2, and were 3,199 and 2,771 kg ha^(-1), and 0.5482 and 0.4912 kg m-3in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Fiber length, strength, elongation, and uniformity increased with increasing leaching amount, while there was a negative relationship between fiber micronaire and leaching amount. Soil salinity, NO_(3)-N and fiber micronaire were negatively correlated with fiber quality(i.e., length, strength, elongation and uniformity) and yield, nitrogen uptake of various organs(i.e., root, stems and leaves) and whole plant nitrogen uptake. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that fiber elongation was most sensitive to soil salinity. The method of Entropy–Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(EM–TOPSIS) indicated that leaching of 300 mm of water applied equally at the seedling and budding periods was the optimal treatment to maintain soil salinity and nutrient levels and achieve high cotton fiber yield and quality. In conclusion, the optimal level of leaching treatment decreased soil salinity and improved nitrogen uptake and was beneficial to achieve high fiber yield and quality. Our results will be significant for guiding drip irrigation practice of leaching on saline-alkaline soils for sustainable cotton fiber production. 展开更多

This study aimed to optimize the application rates and base-topdressing ratios of nitrogen and potassium for flue-cured tobacco in Chaling,Zhuzhou,Hunan.The tobacco variety‘Yunyan 87’was planted and subjected to eight different treatments with different application rates and base-topdressing ratios of nitrogen and potassium.The effect of different treatments on the agronomic traits,dry matter accumulation,yield,and quality of tobacco were compared.The results showed that the growth period of each treatment became shortened as the application rates of nitrogen and potassium decreased and as the base-topdressing ratios of nitrogen and potassium increased.The dry matter accumulation decreased with the reduction in the application rates of nitrogen and potassium.The yield and output value of T1 were the highest,reaching 2097.39 kg/hm^(2)and 65018.90 yuan/hm^(2),respectively,both significantly increasing by 57.5%compared with those of the control(CK).In addition,the proportions of leaves of high and mid-high grade in T1 were also the highest,reaching 73.31%and 88.79%,respectively,both higher than those of CK.The appearance evaluation results showed that the appearance quality scores of tobacco leaves of grades B2F and C3F in T1 were the highest,reaching 51 points,both of which were 3 points higher than that those of CK.All the treatments were consistent in terms of color,maturity,leaf structure,body,oil,and color intensity.Therefore,it was suggested that the tobacco production in Chaling should appropriately increase the proportions of nitrogen and potassium as base fertilizers on the basis of conventional fertilization,which was conducive to improving the yield and appearance quality of flue-cured tobacco. 展开更多

Reducing water consumption in rice production in China without affecting grain yield and quality is a significant challenge.This study explored how various dry cultivation methods could improve rice quality while balancing yield to maintain sustainable rice production.A japonica upland rice cultivar and a japonica paddy rice cultivar were cultivated in the field with three cultivation methods:plastic film mulching dry cultivation(PFMC),bare dry cultivation(BC),and continuous flooding cultivation(CF)as control.There was no significant difference in upland rice yield between PFMC and BC,nor in paddy rice yield between PFMC and CF.Compared with CF,the two varieties'yields decreased significantly with BC.Dry cultivation,especially PFMC,could decrease the active filling period,chalky rice rate,chalkiness,amylose content,gel consistency,breakdown viscosity,the ratio of glutelin to prolamin,and leaf senescence while increasing water use efficiency,protein components content,setback viscosity,grain starch branching enzyme(Q-enzyme)activity,and average filling rate.Compared with paddy rice,upland rice had a lower yield,shorter active filling period,lower chalkiness grain rate and gel consistency,higher amylose content,breakdown viscosity,protein components content,and average filling rate.Grain Q-enzyme activity and grain-filling parameters were closely related to rice quality.Reasonable dry cultivation methods could balance yield and quality,especially by improving rice's nutritional and appearance quality. 展开更多

Rice grain size and chalkiness are important traits that influence grain yield and quality,respectively.Mining of genes for grain yield and appearance quality and clarification of their action modes are of great importance in rice breeding.In this study,a rice protein disulfide isomerase-like enzyme PDIL2-3 was characterized.Expression analysis revealed that PDIL2-3 was highly expressed in endosperm and spikelet hulls.The PDIL2-3-cri lines generated by CRISPR/Cas9 technology exhibited a chalky grain phenotype with altered storage substance accumulation and increased grain size and weight,whereas exactly opposite results were obtained for PDIL2-3 overexpression lines.Cytological experiments revealed that PDIL2-3-cri increased rice seed length mainly by increasing the cell number and rice seed width mainly by increasing the cell size in grains,implying that PDIL2-3 regulates the grain size by influencing both cell division and expansion of spikelet hulls.Further flow cytometric analysis validated that PDIL2-3 has a negative effect on cell proliferation,preventing DNA duplication and cell division in spikelet hulls.Moreover,q RT-PCR results showed that the expression levels of genes related to cell cycle and storage substance synthesis were significantly changed in PDIL2-3-cri transgenic lines.Thus,our results indicated that PDIL2-3 plays a pivotal role in influencing grain size and quality of rice by affecting cell division/expansion and storage substance accumulation,providing new insights into the function of PDIL family members in rice and enriching the genetic resources for rice breeding. 展开更多

Late sowing is a critical factor that hinders achieving high-yield,good-quality wheat under rice-wheat rotation.Understanding the physiological basis and regulatory pathways that lead to high yield and sound quality late-sown wheat is crucial for developing effective cultivation strategies.A 2-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of sowing date,nitrogen(N)application rate,and planting density on wheat yield,grain quality,population characteristics,and the underlying physiological factors.The results revealed significant interactions among the sowing date,planting density,and N application in regulating both yield and quality.Late sowing reduced grain yield primarily by reducing the number of spikes and kernels.However,the latter was improved by increasing N application and the planting density,thus mitigating the yield losses caused by late sowing.Moreover,the grain protein content(GPC)and wet gluten content(WGC)increased with delayed sowing dates and higher N rates but decreased with increased planting densities.For wheat yields over 9,000 or 7,500 kg ha^(-1),the latest sowing date should not be later than Nov.4 or 15,respectively.In addition,specific criteria should be met,including a maximum of 1.5 and 1.0 million stems and tillers ha^(-1),a maximum leaf area index of 6.7 and 5.5,and a dry matter accumulation(DMA)at anthesis of 14,000 and 12,000 kg ha^(-1),respectively.For high-yield,good-quality late-sown wheat,the optimal combination is a 25%increase in the N rate(300 kg N ha^(-1))and a planting density of 2.25 million(N300D225)or 3.75 million(N300D375)plants ha^(-1)for 10-or 20-day delays in sowing,respectively.These combinations result in a higher leaf net photosynthetic rate,higher activities of leaf nitrate reductase,glutamine synthetase,grain glutamic pyruvic transaminase,and a lower sugar-N ratio during post-anthesis. 展开更多

The analysis of combining ability and heterosis is very important in enhancing the yield and oil quality of sunflowers under adverse conditions,and it reveals the potential of the parents and the mechanism of gene action.In this study,twenty-one hybrids were developed by crossing seven cytoplasmic male sterile(CMS)lines with three restorer lines and evaluated for agronomic and quality traits.Highly significant general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA)effects were observed,confirming the role of both additive and non-additive gene actions.Among the tested crosses,A-42×R-86,A-92×R-86,and A-92×R-114 exhibited the greatest heterotic advantage,with seed yields exceeding 340 kg ha^(−1) over the better parent,oil contents above 19%,and 100-seed weights greater than 27 g.The hybrid A-92×R-114 was particularly notable for its elevated oleic acid level and balanced fatty acid profile,making it a strong candidate for premium oilseed production.In contrast,hybrids like A-20×R-39 exhibited moderate heterosis and less quality superiority.The oleic-to-linoleic acid ratio,a key determinant of oil stability,was strongly controlled by genetic factors.Oil content was largely influenced by additive effects,whereas yield heterosis was predominantly governed by non-additive effects.Overall,A-42×R-86 and A-92×R-114 emerged as the most promising hybrids,combining yield benefits with improved oil quality,and offering practical guidance for parental selection in sunflower breeding programs. 展开更多

Context:In irrigated agriculture,the salt stress is a major problem due to accumulation of salt from the irrigation water in the soil layers.Objectives:The aim of this study is to determinate the effect of salinity on some agromorphological traits and seed nutritional quality of three sesames(Sesamum indicum L.)varieties.Methodology:This is how four solutions of different NaCl concentrations from 0,60,120 to 240 mM were used to water sesame plants at the five-leaves stage and this for two months in completely randomized device with four repetitions.Results:The results show a negative effect of the salinity growth and yield parameters,mineral elements,ascorbic acid(to 21.4% in White cultivar,28% in Brown and 24.2% in Black cultivar from 0 to 240 mM NaCl),oil(to 22.6%in White cultivar,32% in Brown and 25.5% in Black cultivar from 0 to 240 mM NaCl)and accumulation of Na(Sodium)content(to 11.8% in White cultivar,15.3% in Brown and 12.2% in Black cultivar from 0 to 240 mM NaCl),osmolytes as proteins(to 14.5% in White cultivar,11.5% in Brown and 9.6%in Black cultivar from 0 to 240 mM NaCl)and antioxydants components.Varieties White and Brown were less affected by salinity.Conclusion:White variety exhibited higher adaptive potential under salinity stress when compared to Brown variety(rich in fiber)and closely followed by Black variety.Thus White variety could be recommended for consumer oil,minerals and proteins.As for Black variety,it could be used,as glucid and antioxydants additives in food. 展开更多

Magnesium(Mg)defciency is becoming a limiting factor for citrus production in acid soils of subtropical and tropical zones.It is speculated that soil Mg leaching and thereby its imbalance may be a major cause of yield decline,yet Mg defciency in citrus receives little attention.A two-year feld experiment was therefore conducted to quantify soil Mg leaching in a typical citrus orchard in China fertilized with varying levels of Mg(Mg0,no Mg fertilizer;Mg45,45 kg MgO ha^(-1)yr^(-1);Mg90,90 kg MgO ha^(-1)yr^(-1);Mg180,180 kg MgO ha^(-1)yr^(-1)).Results showed that Mg application signifcantly increased citrus fruit yield by 4.1-16.4%compared with where MgO was not added.The average amount of soil Mg leaching was 65.7 kg ha^(-1)yr^(-1)where no Mg fertilizer was added,while it reached up to 91.3 kg Mg ha^(-1)yr^(-1)where MgO was added at the rate of 180 kg ha^(-1).Over the 4 treatments,Mg leaching accounted for 12.1-42.4%of the applied Mg fertilizer.Mg leaching and its removal through harvested fruits resulted in an orchard soil Mg balance of-69.9,-51.1,-27.4 and 10.9 kg ha^(-1)in the Mg0,Mg45,Mg90and Mg180,treatments,respectively.The pH values of leachate from the acid soil were alkaline and it contained higher amounts of calcium and potassium than that of Mg.Considering the high leaching of Mg from the acid soils of citrus orchards,applications of Mg fertilizer or Mg-fortifed soil conditioner are vital to sustain soil Mg balance,high fruit yield and fruit quality in citrus production systems in humid subtropical regions. 展开更多

Brackish water(BW)irrigation may cause soil quality deterioration and thereby a decrease in crop yields.Here we examined the impacts of applying gasification filter cake(GFC),intercropping with Portulaca oleracea(PO),and their combination on soil quality,nutrient uptake by plants and tomato yields under BW irrigation.The treatments evaluated included(i)freshwater irrigation(Control),(ii)BW irrigation,(iii)GFC application under BW irrigation(BW+GFC),(iv)intercropping with PO under BW irrigation(BW+PO),and(v)the combined application of GFC and PO under BW irrigation(BW+PO+GFC).Overall,the use of BW for irrigation resulted in a decline in both soil quality(assessed by a soil quality index(SQI)integrating a wide range of key soil properties including salinity,nutrient availability and microbial activities)and crop yields.Nevertheless,when subjected to BW irrigation,the application of GFC successfully prevented soil salinity.Additionally,the intercropping of PO decreased the soil sodium adsorption ratio and improved the absorption of nutrients by plants.As a result,the BW+GFC+PO treatment generally showed higher tomato yield as compared to other BW-related treatments(i.e.BW,BW+GFC and BW+PO).Compared to BW,the BW+GFC+PO treatment had an average increase of 24.7% in the total fruit yield of four Cropping Seasons.Furthermore,the BW+GFC+PO treatment consistently exhibited the highest fruit quality index(FQI).Taken together,the combined application of GFC and PO is effective in promoting soil quality and crop yields under BW irrigation. 展开更多

Integrated agronomic optimization(IAO)adopts suitable crop varieties,sowing dates,planting density,and advanced nutrient management to redesign the entire production system according to the local environment,and it can achieve synergistic improvements in crop yields and resource utilization.However,the intensity and magnitude of the impacts of IAO on soil quality under long-term intensive production and high nitrogen use efficiency(NUE)require further clarification.Based on a 13-year field experiment conducted in Dawenkou,Tai'an,Shadong Province,China,we investigated the effects of four cultivation modes on the grain yield,NUE,and soil aggregate structure,as well as the fraction of organic matter(SOM)and soil quality,reflected by the integrated fertility index(IFI),during the winter wheat maturation periods in 2020–2022.The four cultivation modes were traditional local farming(T1),farmer-based improvement(T2),increased yield regardless of production cost(T3),and integrated soil–crop system management(T4).As the IAO modes,T2 and T4 were characterized by denser planting,reduced nitrogen(N)fertilizer application rates,and delayed sowing compared to T1 and T3,respectively.In this long-term experiment,IAO was found to maintain aggregate stability,increase SOM content(by increasing organic carbon and total nitrogen of the light fraction(LF)and the particulate organic matter fraction(POM)),and improve SOM quality(by increasing the proportions of LF and POM and the ratio of organic carbon to total nitrogen in SOM).Compared to T1,the IFI values of T2,T3,and T4 increased by 10.91,23.38,and 25.55%,and by 17.78,6.41,and 28.94%in the 0–20 and 20–40 cm soil layers,respectively.The grain yield of T4 was 22.52%higher than that of T1,and reached 95.98%of that in T3.Furthermore,the NUE of T4 was 35.61%higher than those of T1 and T3.In conclusion,our results suggest that the IAO mode T4 synergistically increases grain yield and NUE in winter wheat,while maximizing soil quality. 展开更多

Irrigation methods and nitrogen(N) fertilization modes have complicated impacts on wheat physiology, growth, and development, leading to the regulation of wheat grain yield and quality. However, the optimal water-N combination for drip-irrigated winter wheat remains unclear. A two-year field study was conducted to evaluate the influences of various N-fertigation and water regimes on wheat post-anthesis grain weight variation, yield, grain NPK content, and grain quality. The two irrigation quotas were I_(45)(irrigation when crop evapotranspiration reduced by effective rainfall(ETa-P) reaches 45 mm) and I_(30)(irrigation when ETa-P reaches 30 mm), while the six N application rates were N_(0–100)(100% at jointing/booting), N_(25–75)(25% at sowing and 75% at jointing/booting), N_(50–50)(50% at sowing and 50% at jointing/booting), N_(75–25)(75% at sowing and 25% at jointing/booting), N_(100–0)(100% at sowing), and SRF100(100% of slow-release fertilizer at sowing). The experimental findings showed that post-anthesis grain weight variation, grain yield, grain NPK content, and grain quality were all markedly influenced by the various irrigation schedules and N-fertilization modes. The N_(50–50)treatment was more beneficial for winter wheat post-anthesis grain weight variation than the N_(100–0)and N_(0–100)treatments under the two irrigation quotas and during the two seasons. The highest grain yields of 9.72 and9.94(t ha^(-1)) were obtained with the I_(45)N_(50–50)treatment in 2020–2021 and 2021–2022, respectively. The grain crudeprotein was higher in the I_(45)SRF100treatment during the two seasons. The I_(45)N_(100–0)combination significantly(P<0.05)enhanced the content of grain total starch by 7.30 and 8.23% compared with the I_(45)N_(0–100)and I_(30)N_(0–100)treatments,respectively, during the 2021–2021 season. The I_(45)N_(100–0)treatment significantly(P<0.05) enhanced the content ofgrain total starch concentration by 7.77, 7.62 and 7.88% compared with the I_(45)N_(0–100), I_(30)N_(0–100), and I_(30)N_(25–75)treatments,respectively, in the 2021–2022 season. The principal component analysis(PCA) indicated that the N_(50–50)splitN-fertigation mode could be the optimal choice for farmers during winter wheat production via drip irrigation. 展开更多

High molecular weight glutenin subunits(HMW-GS),major components of seed storage proteins in wheat,have large effects on processing quality.GLU-1 genes encode HMW-GS and their expression is mainly controlled at the transcriptional level by interactions between cis-regulatory elements and transcription factors.We previously identified an Aux/IAA transcription factor TaIAA10-6D that bound to a conserved cis-regulatory module CCRM1-1,the most essential conserved cis-regulatory module in GLU-1.Here,we confirmed the binding of TaIAA10-6D to CCRM1-1 using yeast one hybrid and dualluciferase reporter assays.The enhanced expression of TaIAA10-6D suppressed glutenin accumulation and increased gliadin content.Dynamic transcriptome analyses revealed that TaIAA10-6D overexpression down-regulated glutenin and gliadin genes during an early stage of grain filling,but up-regulated gliadin genes during a late stage probably by endoplasmic reticulum stress,accounting for its effect on the tradeoff between glutenin and gliadin.Rheological property and processing quality assays showed that TaIAA10-6D overproduction reduced stabilization time and bread quality,but enhanced cookie quality.Overexpression of TaIAA10-6D also reduced plant height,leaf size,kernel number and grain yield.We identified two major haplotypes of TaIAA10-6D,Hap I and Hap II,and developed a breeding-friendly diagnostic marker.Hap I conferred higher expression of TaIAA10-6D and concomitantly reduced plant height and kernel number,but had little effect on grain yield,contributing to lodging resistance without yield penalty.Hap I was subjected to positive selection in breeding.The findings provide a useful gene for wheat improvement and broaden insights into the regulatory machinery underpinning auxin-mediated quality formation,plant morphogenesis and yield gain. 展开更多

Background As the most widely cultivated fiber crop,cotton production depends on hybridization to unlock the yield potential of current varieties.A deep understanding of genetic dissection is crucial for the cultivation of enhanced hybrid plants with desired traits,such as high yield and fine fiber quality.In this study,the general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA)of yield and fiber quality of nine cotton parents(six lines and three testers)and eighteen F1 crosses produced using a line×tester mating design were analyzed.Results The results revealed significant effects of genotypes,parents,crosses,and interactions between parents and crosses for most of the studied traits.Moreover,the effects of both additive and non-additive gene actions played a notably significant role in the inheritance of most of the yield and fiber quality attributes.The F1 hybrids of(Giza 90×Aust)×Giza 86,Uzbekistan 1×Giza 97,and Giza 96×Giza 97 demonstrated superior performance due to their favorable integration of high yield attributes and premium fiber quality characteristics.Path analysis revealed that lint yield has the highest positive direct effect on seed cotton yield,while lint percentage showed the highest negative direct effect on seed cotton yield.Principal component analysis identified specific parents and hybrids associated with higher cotton yield,fiber quality,and other agronomic traits.Conclusion This study provides insights into identifying potential single-and three-way cross hybrids with superior cotton yield and fiber quality characteristics,laying a foundation for future research on improving fiber quality in cotton. 展开更多

To clarify the response characteristics of broomcorn millet yield and quality to various fertilizers under low nitrogen conditions,the present study investigated the effects of different fertilization treatments,including no fertilization(HCK,CCK),urea(HF1,CF1),phosphate fertilizer(HF2,CF2),compound fertilizer(HF3,CF3),and organic fertilizer(HF4,CF4),on the agronomic traits,quality,and starch pasting properties of proso millet.As experimental materials,non-waxy proso millet(Hequ red proso millet,denoted as HQH)and waxy proso millet(Chishu 1,denoted as CS1)were utilized.The results showed that under low nitrogen conditions,urea treatment(HF1)significantly increased plant height and yield,and phosphate fertilizer treatment(HF2)significantly increased thousand-grain weight(TW).For waxy proso millet Chishu NO.1(CS1),urea treatment(CF1)significantly increased yield,phosphate fertilizer treatment(CF2)significantly influenced the height of the plants,and compound fertilizer treatment(CF3)significantly increased thousand-grain weight.In terms of quality,phosphate fertilizer treatment(CF2)and organic fertilizer treatment(CF4)resulted in a substantial augmentation of both the total starch content and amylose content of waxy proso millet Chishu NO.1(CS1),respectively,and organic fertilizer treatment(HF4,CF4)resulted in a notable enhancement of the protein content of proso millet.Organic fertilizer treatment(HF4)increased peak viscosity(PV),hot viscosity(HV),setback viscosity(SV),final viscosity(FV),breakdown viscosity(BV),pasting time(PTim),and pasting temperature(PTemp)of non-waxy proso millet.Phosphate fertilizer treatment(CF2)increased the peak viscosity(PV),hot viscosity(HV),breakdown viscosity(BV),final viscosity(FV),pasting time(PTim),and pasting temperature(PTemp)of waxy proso millet.Organic fertilizer treatment(HF4)and phosphate fertilizer treatment(CF2)under low nitrogen were the most effective in improving the comprehensive quality of non-waxy and waxy proso millet,respectively.The findings of our research elucidated the impacts of various fertilizers on the productivity and quality of non-waxy and waxy proso millet in nitrogen-deficient environments.Furthermore,this research offered a conceptual underpinning for attaining enhanced cultivation outcomes,encompassing both improved yield and quality,of proso millet in drought-prone regions. 展开更多

Applying iodine fertilizers to cultivate iodine-rich crops for daily intake is an effective approach for iodine supplementation,especially for aromatic rice.Field experiments were conducted during the early growing seasons of 2021 and 2022 to evaluate the impacts of foliar application of iodine fertilizer on aromatic rice and to explore the optimal iodine fertilizer concentration.At the full heading stage,six different concentrations of sodium iodide solutions of 0%(CK),0.010%(T1),0.025%(T2),0.050%(T3),0.075%(T4),and 0.100%(T5)were applied to indica aromatic rice cultivars Meixiangzhan 2 and Xiangyaxiangzhan.The results showed that sodium iodide treatments significantly increased the iodine and sodium contents in both leaves and grains.Compared with the CK,the T1 and T2 treatments increased the 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline(2-AP)content in mature grains by 8.41%-101.66%and 13.58%-74.60%,respectively.Improvements in the contents of 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid,proline,1-pyrroline,and methylglyoxal,as well as the activity of proline dehydrogenase were also detected.Additionally,sodium iodide treatments remarkably decreased the chalky grain rate,chalkiness area,and chalkiness degree of aromatic rice,with the T2 treatment exhibiting a 17.79%-47.42%decrease in chalkiness degree compared with the CK.Meanwhile,T1 and T2 treatments showed beneficial impacts on chlorophyll content,photosynthetic characteristics,and yield components,while T3,T4,and T5 treatments exhibited adverse effects on leaf and grain yields.The linear discriminant analysis revealed significant differences between treatments.The correlation analysis and piecewise structural equation modeling showed that the iodine and sodium influenced the photosynthetic characteristics and chlorophyll content of the leaves,thereby regulating the 2-AP biosynthesis and yield components,ultimately affecting the 2-AP content and yield.Overall,this study suggests that foliar application of 0.025%sodium iodide is an effective method to enrich the iodine content in rice grains,improve the grain aroma and appearance quality of aromatic rice,without detrimental effects on grain yield. 展开更多
