Aging is a pivotal risk factor for intervertebral disc degeneration(IVDD)and chronic low back pain(LBP).The restoration of aging nucleus pulposus cells(NPCs)to a youthful epigenetic state is crucial for IVDD treatment, but remains a formidable challenge. Here,we proposed a strategy to partially reprogram and reinstate youthful epigenetics of senescent NPCs by delivering a plasmid carrier that expressed pluripotency-associated genes(Oct4,Klf4 and Sox2)in Cavin2-modified exosomes(OKS@M-Exo)for treatment of IVDD and alleviating LBP.The functional OKS@M-Exo efficaciously alleviated senescence markers(p16^(INK4a),p21^(CIP1)and p53),reduced DNA damage and H4K20me3 expression,as well as restored proliferation ability and metabolic balance in senescent NPCs,as validated through in vitro experiments. In a rat model of IVDD,OKS@M-Exo maintained intervertebral disc height, nucleus pulposus hydration and tissue structure, effectively ameliorated IVDD via decreasing the senescence markers.Additionally,OKS@MExo reduced nociceptive behavior and downregulated nociception markers, indicating its efficiency in alleviating LBP.The transcriptome sequencing analysis also demonstrated that OKS@M-Exo could decrease the expression of age-related pathways and restore cell proliferation.Collectively, reprogramming by the OKS@M-Exo to restore youthful epigenetics of senescent NPCs may hold promise as a therapeutic platform to treat IVDD. 展开更多

Background:Physicalfitness in childhood and adolescence is associated with a variety of health outcomes and is a powerful marker of current and future health. However, inconsistencies in tests and protocols limit international monitoring and surveillance. The objective of the study was to seek international consensus on a proposed,evidence-informed,Youth Fitness International Test(YFIT)battery and protocols for health monitoring and surveillance in children and adolescents aged 618 years. Methods:We conducted an international modified Delphi study to evaluate the level of agreement with a proposed,evidence-based,YFIT of core health-relatedfitness tests and protocols to be used worldwide in 6-to 18-year-olds.This proposal was based on previous European and North American projects that systematically reviewed the existing evidence to identify the most valid,reliable,health-related,safe,and feasiblefitness tests to be used in children and adolescents aged 618 years. We designed a single-panel modified Delphi study and invited 216 experts from all around the world to answer this Delphi survey,of whom one-third are from low-to-middle income countries and one-third are women.Four experts were involved in the piloting of the survey and did not participate in the main Delphi study to avoid bias.We pre-defined an agreement of 80%among the expert participants to achieve consensus. Results:We obtained a high response rate(78%)with a total of 169fitness experts from 50 countries and territories, including 63 women and 61 experts from low-or middle-income countries/territories.Consensus(>85%agreement)was achieved for all proposed tests and protocols, supporting the YFIT battery, which includes weight and height(to compute body mass index as a proxy of body size/composition),the 20-m shuttle run(cardiorespiratoryfitness),handgrip strength, and standing long jump(muscularfitness). Conclusion:This study contributes to standardizingfitness tests and protocols used for research, monitoring, and surveillance across the world, which will allow for future data pooling and the development of international and regional sex-and age-specific reference values,health-related cut-points,and a global picture offitness among children and adolescents. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Physical activity(PA)is a key contributor to the neurocognitive and psychological development of children and adolescents. With the rapid integration of digital technologies in educational and recreational contexts,technology-enhanced PA(TEPA)interventions have emerged as promising tools for promoting mental and cognitive health. However, the effectiveness of various TEPA modalities—such as virtual reality(VR),mobile applications, and biofeedback systems—remains unclear.Prior findings are fragmented across systematic reviews with inconsistent methodologies. This umbrella review was conducted to synthesize current evidence and evaluate whether specific TEPA modalities yield differential benefits. We hypothesized that TEPA interventions with immersive and selfregulatory features provide greater enhancements in executive function(EF),cognitive function(CF),and mental health(MH)than passive or minimally interactive formats.AIM To determine the effects of TEPA interventions and modality-specific characteristics on EF,CF,and MH outcomes in children and adolescents.METHODS An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses was conducted in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines.Five databases(PubMed,Web of Science,EMBASE,EBSCOhost, and Cochrane Library)were searched up to March 2025.Eligible reviews included participants aged≤18 years, assessed TEPA interventions, and reported EF,CF,or MH outcomes.Methodological quality was assessed using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2.Data synthesis was stratified by intervention modality, and heterogeneity was evaluated using the I^(2)statistic.RESULTS A total of 11 systematic reviews and meta-analyses were included.Interventions using VR(2/2),game-based formats(2/2),biofeedback(2/2),and multicomponent programs(1/1)showed consistent evidence of improvements in EF and MH(e.g.,EF:6.92±3.86 vs 3.61±1.67,P<0.001).App-based interventions(3/3)demonstrated mixed or modest effects, while augmented reality-based formats showed limited efficacy.MH outcomes were most frequently improved(9/11 reviews),followed by EF(6/11 reviews)and CF(5/11 reviews).Heterogeneity ranged from moderate to high(I^(2)=42%-78%)across modalities.CONCLUSION TEPA significantly improves MH and selectively enhances executive and CF in youth.Immersive, interactive, and biofeedback-driven modalities are particularly effective. 展开更多

This study examines the impact of political polarization on youth engagement in Brazil, focusing on the intersection of historical legacies, cultural dynamics, and modern political influences.Tracing the evolution of polarization from the military dictatorship era to contemporary politics under Jair Bolsonaro, the study explores how polarized rhetoric, misinformation, and digital media have reshaped the political landscape for young Brazilians.Data for the study were collected through a survey of 159 college students aged 18-25 from public and private institutions across Brazil, complemented by 10 interviews with youth activists and party leaders from the Workers’Party(PT)and the Liberal Party(PL).These methods aimed to evaluate how polarization affects young people’s beliefs, political identities, behaviors, engagement levels, and ability to participate in constructive political discourse. The findings reveal that while polarization fosters hostility and deepens ideological divides,it also inspires youth activism by creating a sense of identity and belonging.Education, digital information channels, and the lack of representation in leadership roles emerge as key factors shaping youth engagement.Despite challenges, the research underscores hope:young Brazilians display resilience, critical awareness, and a shared desire for accountability and inclusivity. This study highlights the potential of youth to bridge divides and lead Brazil toward a more collaborative and democratic future. 展开更多

Objectives:The climate crisis demands urgent action from all sectors of society, including young people in higher education. While previous research has explored individual and contextual predictors of pro-environmental behaviour(PEB),the contribution of Positive Youth Development(PYD)remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between PYD dimensions(Competence,Confidence,Connection,Character, and Caring)and two environmental outcomes:environmental habits and climate change awareness, considering gender differences. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 1779 students from 10 universities in Andalusia(Spain).Data were collected through an online survey assessing PYD indicators,PEB,and sociodemographic variables.Descriptive statistics,t-tests,correlation analyses, and multiple mediation models were performed. Results:Descriptive analyses indicated moderate levels of PYD dimensions and PEB across the sample.Among the 5 Cs,Caring had a positive association with environmental habits(r 0.22,p 0.001)and climate change awareness(r=<=0.30,p 0.001).Character also had a positive effect on both environmental habits(r 0.23,p 0.001)and climate<=<change awareness(r 0.30,p 0.001).Competence and Confidence were not significantly associated, and Connection=<demonstrated limited predictive value, potentially influenced by contextual or social factors.Gender differences were also identified, with women showing higher scores in Character(d 0.29,p 0.001),Caring(d 0.63,p 0.001),=<=<environmental habits(d 0.20,p 0.001)and climate change awareness(d 0.40,p 0.001),while men scored higher in=<=<Competence(d 0.57,p 0.001)and Confidence(d 0.22,p 0.001).Mediation analyses indicated that the association=<=<between gender and environmental habits was totally explained by Character(β95%CI:and=-0.02;-0.04;-0.01)Caring(β95%CI:Furthermore,the relationship between gender and climate change awareness=-0.04;-0.05,-0.02).was partially mediated by Character(β95%CI:and Caring(β95%CI:=-0.03;-0.05;-0.02)=-0.05;-0.07,-0.03).Conclusions:Females showed more environmental habits and climate change awareness than males, because of their greater scores in both Caring and Character dimensions of PYD.These findings highlight the importance of the PYD for promoting PEB and engaged citizens among young adults.Gender-sensitive and interdisciplinary interventions, such as environmental volunteering and community-based programmes, are recommended for university contexts to enhance sustainable development behaviours and values. 展开更多

The emergence of new media with multiple platforms has abundantly adjusted the socio-political perspectives in such a way that our everyday conducts and professionalism point of views are entrenched over technological diffusion. The young people remain the potential users on the social media, considering their primary bases for daily accomplishments, owing to the novel features and realistic methods available. As an entry point, this paper intends to draw the conception of the public sphere, whereby the notion of publics is vital on abstracting the sphere of the internet,in which abundant spheres meant for the multiple clusters embark on political communication for their ways distinctly. It’s the ideal realm which converges the peripheral spheres into the inclusive domain through communicative actions. In the developing countries, the youths along with minorities’engagement and reliance on the internet have been ominously mounting, comprehensive for political identities and rationalizing their civic opinions.Polling discussion on running candidates and political parties’manifestations are common during the general election and some diaspora communities and further foreign activists play a part in political affairs of the countries. Thus, this article aims at tracing the potential civil integrity for youths with political information efficacy fostered on digital public spheres,by which traditional media are politically run-downed,remoted by draconian legal framework and commercial determinants.Besides, this paper argues about the offline publics which are ideally distant, and thus far implies to the narrow unitary sphere theorization owing to the technology division which so far entails partial civic life. 展开更多

This study's objective is to thoroughly analyze representations of teenage sexuality portrayed in two Chinese youths' films, which represent social, cultural, and historical diversities in China's Mainland, as well, to unfold some particular natures and trends of Chinese youth cinema in the context of globalization and internationalization. Content analysis and methodology of narrative explore the ideological nature of representations of youth as well as the interpretation of trends in Chinese youth cinema. This study argues the particular manners of representations of Chinese youth in the youths' films produced in China's Mainland, through distinct elements such as film properties, film discourse, and acting on set It will explain how functional and social category diversity, cultural diversity, and historical diversity derive the actuality in Chinese communities, and center on a series of sex-based issues that revel correlations between Chinese youths' ideology, psychology, and social construction. Including a discussion of technical factors, it defines the specific natures of Chinese youth cinema in the region based on fixed parameters of culture or ancestry that convey rhetorical messages to discover the characteristics of genre film so that the interpretation of the term "peers groups" represents the values and beliefs in modern Chinese society, thus presenting the exchange approaches which construct and validate the relationship among society, global film industry, young audience and film content. 展开更多

Objective To promote healthy sexual behaviour among rural college youth. Methods The intervention study consisted a sample of 1 500 (800 male and 700female) in baseline and 1 953 (1 022 male and 931 female) college going students in post intervention, in the age groups 15-24 years from 8 colleges in Thane district of Maharashtra. The interventions included dissemination of lEC (Information, Education and Communication), counselling in colleges and provision of health care services at rural health centers in the experimental area. Male and female teachers and peer leaders were trained to provide IEC. Chi-square test was carried out to find out the association between contributing factors and sexual behaviour. Results Post intervention results showed that overall any sexual experience (coital/ non-coital) increased by 2.6% and 1.0% among male students and 4.6% and 0.8% among female students in control and experimental groups respectively which suggests that in the control area physical closeness and sexual relationship has increased between sexes. A significant improvement was noted in the usage of condom during their sexual intercourse in experimental group. The provision of IEC in college settings, peer leader training and orientation to teachers helped students and teachers to initiate a dialogue on reproductive health issues. Intervention programs helped college youth to develop the skills, make informed decisions about engaging in sexual intercourse and using contraceptives in a social context that sometimes encourages risky sexual behaviour. The study found that peer interaction was exposure to erotic material; habits and working status among boys and peer interaction and place of study among girls were closely associated with their coital and non-coital sex experience. Conclusion A scientifically developed, need based and demand driven reproductive health service package for male and female students in colleges can help them to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes for critical thinking and responsible decision making and for achieving healthy sexual life. Therefore, programs aimed at promotion of safer sex practice should be promoted at such vulnerable group. 展开更多

The paper addresses the youth's perception towards jobs and career opportunities in Saudi Arabia, based on the school-to-work transition model. The study is based on a sample survey covering 600 youth cohorts in Yanbu and Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study reveals that school-to-work transition is not a smooth one and is influenced by the perception of youth towards employment and its various dimensions along with the ambitions towards career improvement. The 14 indicators framed in the paper reveal that essentiality, confidence to get a job that satisfies the needs, job availability, and qualifications are found to be important determinants of youth's attitude towards work; whereas, willingness to do any job did not get much acclaim. Job selection of youth is determined by location (especially hometown job), sectoral preferences, training options, and work environment. 展开更多
