Web-based interventions are highly beneficial for many individuals of all ages since they are accessible, convenient, private, cost-effective, and can impact on a large scale. Since there is no study examining the impact of web-based mindfulness yoga programs on insomnia, sleep quality, and beliefs in their ideal care, this study is worthy of investigation. Methods: A total of 27 care workers who met all criteria from care service centers for the elderly in the Kyushu area, Japan, completed the Insomnia Severity Index, Sleep Quality Scale extracted from the Oguri-Shirakawa-Azumi Sleep Inventory, and Caregivers’ Belief in Ideal Care before and after practicing a web-based mindfulness yoga program. We employed a within-subject design to investigate the effect of mindfulness yoga on those measured surveys. Results: Repeated-measures ANOVAs were performed by comparing the ISI-J, CBIC, and Sleep Quality Scale before and after the intervention. The results revealed that participants significantly improved their insomnia, sleep quality, and beliefs in ideal care, which were assessed after the intervention compared to before the intervention. Conclusion: Web-based interventions are extremely beneficial for many individuals of all ages since they are accessible, convenient, private, cost-effective, and can impact on a large scale. Furthermore, given that alleviating poor work environment may be associated with mitigating high turnover rates and prevention of maltreatment of their elderly clients, this study has added to current literature the crucial roles of web-based intervention programs. We hope that our findings will encourage the provision of web-based intervention programs where caregivers can practice them during their break or at home.展开更多

Evidence shows that mind-body therapies such as mindfulness therapy, meditation and yoga have been practiced in many other countries to reduce and/or manage the psychological effects of stress and anxiety. This review arti- cle looks at the intervention of yoga as a meditative movement practice in helping school children man- age stress and anxiety. Articles were retrieved using a combination of databases including PubMed/ MEDLINE, and PsyclNFO. Not only peer-reviewed articles, but also those written in English language were included in this review. All studies reviewed had incorporated some form of meditative movement exer- cise. The intervention encompassed asanas (postures), pranayama (expansion of life force), dharana (con- centration) and dhyana (meditation), which are the different paths in yoga. A total of eight articles met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed. The findings of this review reveal that the practice of yoga has brought about, among other things, improvement in managing and reducing stress and anxiety. Despite the limitations in most, if not all of the studies reviewed, in terms of heterogeneity and sample size, yoga appears to be an effective modality for helping children cope with stress and anxiety. It appears that if schools in Malaysia can incorporate yoga as part of the physical education curriculum, it will definitely benefit the students.展开更多

Studies show that a lack of resources and physical activity-unfriendly communities discourage 60 minutes of daily activity, including strengthening exercises, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Using Social Ecological theory, the purpose of this study was to examine the multi-level influences of a yoga-based intervention on urban, inner city youth. Method: Using a mixed-methods design, ninety-three 3 - 5th grade students at five urban elementary schools participated in a ten-week yoga intervention. Analysis/Results: RM-ANOVA results revealed a significant reduction in stress and bullying behaviors among participants, and multiple regression analyses revealed that program attendance, change in stress, and change in yoga enjoyment significantly predicted change in yoga participation outside PE, when controlling for gender and age F(5, 87) = 5.36, p R2 = 0.19, but did not have a significant impact on physical activity participation outside of school. Student interviews and non-participant observations revealed strong enjoyment of yoga which led students to report substantial increases in yoga-related activities outside of school. Students also revealed that experience in yoga improved focus, attention, and reduced stress. Conclusions: Through convergence of qualitative and quantitative methods, this study showed a positive relationship between the number of yoga sessions attended (dose), enjoyment of yoga, and participation in yoga outside PE with friends and family. Findings suggest that urban PE should include more individual, non-competitive activities such as yoga, which students find to be stress-relieving, fun, inexpensive and easy to perform at home.展开更多

This study examined the effect of just one hour of grounding on blood viscosity while subjects participated in gentle yoga exercises designed to initiate minor inflammation. Design: In this double blind model, twenty-eight (28) subjects met at the Bowerman Sports Medicine Clinic on the campus of the University of Oregon and were grounded to the earth via contact with a grounded yoga mat or were sham-grounded. Ten yoga exercises were repeated five times over a one-hour period. Blood was taken pre and post exercise and analyzed for blood viscosity using a scanning capillary viscometer. Results: Subjects connected to the earth significantly reduced their post exercise systolic blood viscosity (p = 0.03) and diastolic blood viscosity (p = 0.03). Conclusion: Grounding has the ability to affect exercise induced inflammation, thereby reducing blood viscosity.展开更多

According to the World Health Organization, depression affects roughly 10% of pregnant women worldwide and 13% of women in the immediate postpartum period. In India, the Prevalence of Postpartum Depression (PPD) varies from 15% to 20%. Yoga, which originated in ancient India, is recognized as an alternative medicine practice that incorporates mind-body practices. Methodology: This is a review (narrative) study, in which literature has been evaluated using electronic search in databases of PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, ResearchGate, etc. Searching in the databases was made using keywords of postpartum depression, yoga in postpartum depression. There were many articles on yoga in depression but those articles were included in the study that had done research on postpartum depression, which were of research and review article type. Result: This review study includes 4 interventional studies that showed a highly significant (p < 0.001) decrease in depression after the performance of yoga on postpartum women. Conclusion: This study showed the result that different limbs of yoga (i.e., Dhyana, Asanas, and Pranayama, etc.) could considerably reduce depression symptoms in postnatal women. This would also help in reducing the use of antidepressant medications. Therefore, it is recommended that yoga training should be employed in postnatal treatment.展开更多

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Hatha yoga on the autonomic nervous system by tracking acute changes in the time-domain and frequency-domain metrics of heart rate variability (HRV) in healthy International Baccalaureate students arranged in 3 different groups. Methods: The prospective interventional study was conducted among adolescent students in China. Thirty-six adolescent students were divided in three groups: 12 Hatha yoga experimental group participants;a control group of 12 students without participation in any activity and a recreational sport group of 12 other students. Outcomes measured were HRV parameters such as SDNN, RMSSD LF, HF, and LF/HF. Also, a Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 was used to measure stress and anxiety score in terms of Cognitive stress, Somatic Stress and Self Confidence. Results: Compared to baseline values, the Hatha yoga experiment group demonstrated a significant increase in HRV indices: SDNN 87.62 ± 13.89 (>0.0001) and RMSDD 86.61 ± 7.78 (>0.0001) respectively. In contrast it was documented after the 3 weeks of exposure to yoga training a statistically significant decrease in the frequency domain of LF 1911.53 ± 882.15 (0.0464) compared to baseline values. After completion of intervention the yoga experiment group HF (ms2) values were increased 3430.40 ± 858.38 (>0.0001). Decrease and increase in the HF (ms2) in the control and Hatha yoga group were statistically significant after following Hatha yoga. Cognitive anxiety 18.08 ± 6.30 (>0.0001) and Somatic anxiety 17.50 ± 6.33 (>0.0001) decreased after intervention with yoga and self-confidence increased significantly 32.50 ± 1.17 (>0.0001). Conclusions: The investigation showed a significant increase of HRV parameters and cardiac autonomic function as a result of exposure to Yoga practice. Also, there was significant evidence of decrease in cognitive stress and somatic stress;increased values of self-confidence at the end of three weeks yoga exposure in comparison to the baseline values.展开更多

Conclusion: Grounding has the ability to affect exercise induced inflammation, thereby reducing blood viscosity.
文摘Objective:The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of yoga on negative emotions in breast cancer patients. Methods:Pubmed,Elsevier,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,CBM,CNKI,Wanfang, and VIP databases were screened throughout October 2015.Randomized control trials(RCTs)examining the effects of yoga versus a non-exercise or waitlist control group on negative moods in breast cancer patients were included. The methodological quality of included RCTs was evaluated by using the Cochrane Handbook 5.1,and data were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3.Results:A total of 21 RCTs with 1762 participants were included. We found evidence for immediate effects on anxiety(p<0.00001),depression(p<0.00001),distress(p<0.00001),perceived stress(p<0.00001),and emotional well-being(p=0.0002).Sustained effects(3 months)were only found in depression(p=0.004)but not anxiety(p=0.43),and other outcomes were not synthesized because of heterogeneity and the limited number of studies. Conclusion:Yoga is valuable in improving negative moods in patients with breast cancer. We also concluded five key mechanisms of yoga therapy in improving negative moods.Further well-designed RCTs with large sample size and long-term follow-up are needed.
文摘Objective:In determining the effects of yoga practice on mild preeclampsia, this study examines the blood pressure, blood platelet(PLT)count, and proteinuria status in pregnant women over 20 weeks of pregnancy.Materials and Methods:This research is an experimental study with a pre–post intervention design. We collected forty pregnant women with mild preeclampsia from all populations. All participants agreed to practice 30 min of yoga every week for 1 month. The blood pressure, the blood PLT count, and proteinuria were measured before and after the yoga intervention. The statistical analysis used the t‑test for the blood PLT count variable, the McNemar test for the proteinuria variable, and the Wilcoxon test for the blood pressure variable. Results:The results showed a decrease in systole blood pressure from 134.17±7.17 mmHg before a yoga intervention to 120±4.17 mmHg after yoga intervention(P<0.001)and a decrease in diastole blood pressure from 89.58±5.5 mmHg before the intervention to 79.38±4.25 mmHg after the intervention(P<0.001).However,there was no significant difference in blood PLT count(P=0.104)and proteinuria(P=0.063)before and after a yoga intervention in pregnant women with mild preeclampsia patients. Conclusions:Yoga exercise during pregnancy(upper 20 weeks of gestation)significantly decreased systolic and diastolic blood pressure in mild preeclampsia patients.
文摘Objective: Ayurveda and Yoga have emerged as beneficial adjuvant in management of diabetes. This pilot study was planned to understand the concepts and assess the effect of a combination of Ayurvedic panchakarma and Yoga. Design: Experimental pilot study with pre post design. Subjects: Twelve patients with type 2 diabetes in age between 40-70 years (mean 56 ± 9.08) with no cardiac, renal or retinal complications. Settings: Residential Holistic Health Centre of S-VYASA. Intervention: A validated Ayurveda protocol comprising of panchakarma followed by maintenance therapy with a specific module of Integrated Approach of Yoga Therapy for Diabetes that included selected physical postures (asanas), pranayama, meditation, lifestyle change and yogic counseling for stress management. All subjects underwent a residential program for six weeks followed by therapy at home for 12 weeks. Results were analyzed using paired “t” test. Results: After 6 weeks, Fasting Blood Glucose reduced (p < 0.05) from 129.31 ± 58.11 to 103.54 ± 40.74 (19.93%), Post Prandial Blood Glucose from 191.69 ± 76.77 to 152.92 ± 62.06 (20.23%, p < 0.05), Total choles- terol from 209 ± 33.7 to 186.92 ± 23.36 (10.56%, p < 0.05), Triglycerides from 198.25 ± 94.78 to 151.25 ± 43.65 (23.71%, p < 0.05), HbA1creduced (p = 0.014) from 8.79 ± 2.12 to 8.07 ± 1.77 (8.19%) in 6th week and further to 7.63 ± 2.12 (13.19%, p = 0.001) after 12th week. Oral Hypoglycemic Agent (OHA) drug score reduced from 2.83 ± 0.93 to 1 ± 1.27 (64.66%, p < 0.001). Symptom score reduced from 2.83 ± 1.02 to 1.66 ± 0.65 (p < 0.001). At baseline guna questionnaire showed six subjects each with rajas and tamas dominance. On post assessments, two subjects shifted from tamas to rajas dominance. Conclusion: This first pilot study has indication of a potentially beneficial effect of combining traditionally recommended Ayurveda panchakarma with maintenance herbs and Yoga, in reducing blood glucose and lipids. Long term RCT is recommended.
文摘Introduction: Postpartum depression often starts two weeks to a month after delivery and can linger for months or even a year. Therefore, it is recommended that yoga training should be employed in postnatal treatment.
文摘Introduction: Hatha Yoga is a widely used form of holistic mind-body therapy for promoting health, and disease prevention like cardiovascular risks and part of treatment for neurological disorders. Also, there was significant evidence of decrease in cognitive stress and somatic stress;increased values of self-confidence at the end of three weeks yoga exposure in comparison to the baseline values.
文摘Geriatric care during coronavirus disease 2019 is a real concern for all countries whether it is developed or developing.Poor tolerability for conventional medicines,co-morbidities,weak immune system, high oxidative stress, arterial aging, psychological stress and somatization are few possible reasons for high vulnerability of elderly people for coronavirus disease 2019.Beside high vulnerability of elderly people other major lacunas like improper nurturing, health care services, delayed in providing emergency treatment facilities are also major concern. Therefore it is require to make them self dependent and self sufficient in taking care for themselves by providing information of simple household remedies and simple life style measures that can be adopted easily, tolerable, accessible, affordable and above all safe to use.The article discusses simple spices that can be use as medicines for the management of coronavirus disease 2019 related diseases along with depiction of simple yogic techniques that can be performed indoor to maintain physical activity.
