Xylariaceae sp.QGS 01,an endophytic fungus isolated from the stem of Quercus gilva Blume showed high-glucosidase inhibitory activity.α-Glucosidase inhibitor have the role as one of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes to...Xylariaceae sp.QGS 01,an endophytic fungus isolated from the stem of Quercus gilva Blume showed high-glucosidase inhibitory activity.α-Glucosidase inhibitor have the role as one of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes to postpone absorption of glucose in the digestive organs.The α-glucosidase inhibitor constituents were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the mycellium of endophytic fungi Xylariaceae sp.QGS 01 using a bioassay-guided fractionation technique.Further separation and purification of the active fraction led to the isolation of constituents with strong inhibitory activities against-glucosidase:8-hydroxy-6,7-dimethoxy-3-methylisocoumarine(1)with inhibitory concentration(IC50)values against-glucosidase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae of 41.75μg/mL,while quercetin as the standard had an IC50 value of 4.80g/mL.The results of the present study showed that the endophytic fungus Xylariaceae sp.QGS 01 is potentially a rich source of antidiabetic medicine.展开更多
Extensive fieldwork in all 33 districts including different forests of Gujarat state during 2007 to 2014 resulted in the collection of 349 fungal taxa.Among them,19 species represented the family Xylariaceae belonging...Extensive fieldwork in all 33 districts including different forests of Gujarat state during 2007 to 2014 resulted in the collection of 349 fungal taxa.Among them,19 species represented the family Xylariaceae belonging to three genera viz.Daldinia(3 species),Hypoxylon(2 species)and Xylaria(14 species).From these species,Daldinia concentrica,D.eschscholtzii,Hypoxylon begae,Xylaria curta,X.feejeensis,X.polymorpha and X.regalis are reported previously,while Daldinia childiae,Hypoxylon rickii,Xylaria apiculata,X.carpophila,X.cubensis,X.filiformis,X.gigentea,X.hypoxylon,X.longipes,X.nigripes,X.primorskensis and X.psidii are recorded for the first time from Gujarat.All the species are saprobic except Hypoxylon fragiforme and Xylaria polymorpha,which are exclusively observed on the bark of Bombax ceiba and Lannea coromandelica as well as dead trees.The distribution,habitat,morphology of the identified species are described in this article.展开更多

Three new species of Hypoxylon(Xylariaceae)collected from Martinique in the French Caribbean are recognised by new combinations of morphological characters.Their status as undescribed taxa was supported by secondary m...Three new species of Hypoxylon(Xylariaceae)collected from Martinique in the French Caribbean are recognised by new combinations of morphological characters.Their status as undescribed taxa was supported by secondary metabolite profiling based on High performance liquid chromatography with diode array and mass spectrometric detection(HPLC/DAD-MS)as well as by comparison of ITS and partialß-tubulin DNA sequences with related taxa.In the course of this study,the teleomorph of Nodulisporium griseobrunneum was found,and this species could be transferred to Hypoxylon.Moreover,several names in Hypoxylon are epitypified by selecting recently collected specimens from the same geographic areas as the holotypes came from.Despite the fact that our study used the hitherto most extensive taxon sampling,the phylogenetic analyses inferred from ITS andß-tubulin sequences remain contradictory to each other,and neither genealogy was found fully in agreement with phenotype-derived traits.We conclude that the right gene(or multi-gene genealogies)to reflect the phylogeny and evolution of Hypoxylon still remains to be found.For the time being,we recommend that the application of polyphasic taxonomic concepts should be continued in taxonomic studies of Hypoxylon.展开更多
