During shield tunneling in highly abrasive formations such as sand–pebble strata, nonuniform wear of shield cutters is inevitable due to the different cutting distances.Frequent downtimes and cutter replacements have become major obstacles to long-distance shield driving in sand–pebble strata.Based on the cutter wear characteristics in sand–pebble strata in Beijing,a design methodology for the cutterhead and cutters was established in this study to achieve uniform wear of all cutters by the principle of frictional wear. The applicability of the design method was verified through three-dimensional simulations using the engineering discrete element method. The results show that uniform wear of all cutters on the cutterhead could be achieved by installing different numbers of cutters on each trajectory radius and designing a curved spoke with a certain arch height according to the shield diameter.Under the uniform wear scheme, the cutter wear coefficient is greatly reduced, and the largest shield driving distance is increased by approximately 47%over the engineering scheme. The research results indicate that the problem of nonuniform cutter wear in shield excavation could be overcome, thereby providing guiding significance for theoretical innovation and construction of long-distance shield excavation in highly abrasive strata. 展开更多

The tribological properties of newly developed friction material were evaluated by statistical analysis of the major affecting factors. The material for investigation was non-metallic friction material synergistically reinforced with aramid fibre and CaSO 4 whisker, which was developed for hoisting applications in coal mine. The response surface method(RSM)was employed to analyze the material performances affected by the independent and interactive effect of the factors under the normal working condition and severe working condition, respectively. Results showed that under the normal working condition, the newly developed material exhibited stable tribological properties which were insensitive to the test conditions. While under the severe working condition, the sliding velocity was the most dominant factor affecting the friction coefficient.Additionally, compared to the commercially available material, the modified material showed superior wear resistance and thermal stability. 展开更多

Profile shift is a highly effective technique for optimizing the performance of spur gear transmission systems. However, tooth surface wear is inevitable during gear meshing due to inadequate lubrication and long-term operation. Both profile shift and tooth surface wear(TSW)can impact the meshing characteristics by altering the involute tooth profile. In this study,a tooth stiffness model of spur gears that incorporates profile shift,TSW,tooth deformation, tooth contact deformation,fillet-foundation deformation, and gear body structure coupling is established. This model efficiently and accurately determines the time-varying mesh stiffness(TVMS).Additionally,an improved wear depth prediction method for spur gears is developed, which takes into consideration the mutually prime teeth numbers and more accurately reflects actual gear meshing conditions. Results show that consideration of the mutual prime of teeth numbers will have a certain impact on the TSW process.Furthermore, the finite element method(FEM)is employed to accurately verify the values of TVMS and load sharing ratio(LSR)of profile-shifted gears and worn gears. This study quantitatively analyzes the effect of profile shift on the surface wear process, which suggests that gear profile shift can partially alleviate the negative effects of TSW.The contribution of this study provides valuable insights into the design and maintenance of spur gear systems. 展开更多

The objective of this work is to study the synthesis of copper-alumina nanocomposites using the coprecipitation process and hot-pressing method, and investigate their mechanical properties. The effects of calcination temperature on the average size of composite particles and chemical composition after calcination were also analyzed. The sintering parameters including sintering temperature, hot pressure and packing time were optimized to fabricate the alumina nanoparticles reinforced copper matrix composites(CMCs). The density, microhardness and tribological properties of the CMCs reinforced with 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 4 wt% and 5 wt% of alumina nanoparticles were investigated correspondingly. The results showed that the optimum preparation parameters for the CMCs were 900 ℃ of hot pressing temperature, 27.5 MPa of hot pressure and 2 hrs of packing time. The CMC reinforced with 2 wt% of alumina nanoparticles had the lowest wear rate, with the relative wear resistance of 3.13. 展开更多

A shear impact energy model (SIEM) of erosion suitable for both dilute and dense particle flows is pro- posed based on the shear impact energy of particles in discrete element method (DEM) simulations. A number of DEM simulations are performed to determine the relationship between the shear impact energy predicted by the DEM model and the theoretical erosion energy. Simulation results show that nearly one-quarter of the shear impact energy will be converted to erosion during an impingement. According to the ratio of the shear impact energy to the erosion energy, it is feasible to predict erosion from the shear impact energy, which can be accumulated at each time step for each impingement during the DEM simulation. The total erosion of the target surface can be obtained by summing the volume of material removed from each impingement. The proposed erosion model is validated against experiment and results show that the SIEM combined with DEM accurately predicts abrasive erosions. 展开更多

Based on the results of slot milling experiments on the DD5 Ni-based single crystal superalloy(001) crystal plane along the [110]crystal direction, in this paper, efforts were devoted to investigate the tool wear process, wear mechanism and failure modes of the physical vapor deposition(PVD)-AlTiN and TiAlN coated tools under dry milling and water-based minimum quantity lubrication(MQL) conditions. The scanning electron microscope(SEM) morphological observation and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX) elements analysis methods were adopted. Moreover, under the water-based MQL condition, the surface integrity such as surface roughness, dimensional and shape accuracy, microhardness and microstructure alteration were researched. The results demonstrated that the tool edge severe adhesion with the work material, induced by the high Al content in the PVD-AlTiN coating caused the catastrophic tool tip fracture. In contrast, the PVD-TiAlN tool displayed a steady and uniform minor flank wear, even though the material peeling and slight chipping also occurred in the final stage. In addition, due to the high effective cooling and lubricating actions of the water-based MQL method, the PVD-TiAlN coated tool demonstrated intact tip geometry; consequently it could be repaired and reused even if the failure criterion was attained. Moreover, as the accumulative milling length and the tool wear increased, all indicators of the surface integrity forehand were deteriorated. 展开更多
