WaveLiteDehaze-Network:A Low-Parameter Wavelet-Based Method for Real-Time Dehazing

Although the image dehazing problem has received considerable attention over recent years,the existing models often prioritise performance at the expense of complexity,making them unsuitable for real-world applications,which require algorithms to be deployed on resource constrained-devices.To address this challenge,we propose WaveLiteDehaze-Network(WLD-Net),an end-to-end dehazing model that delivers performance comparable to complex models while operating in real time and using significantly fewer parameters.This approach capitalises on the insight that haze predominantly affects low-frequency infor-mation.By exclusively processing the image in the frequency domain using discrete wavelet transform(DWT),we segregate the image into high and low frequencies and process them separately.This allows us to preserve high-frequency details and recover low-frequency components affected by haze,distinguishing our method from existing approaches that use spatial domain processing as the backbone,with DWT serving as an auxiliary component.DWT is applied at multiple levels for better in-formation retention while also accelerating computation by downsampling feature maps.Subsequently,a learning-based fusion mechanism reintegrates the processed frequencies to reconstruct the dehazed image.Experiments show that WLD-Net out-performs other low-parameter models on real-world hazy images and rivals much larger models,achieving the highest PSNR and SSIM scores on the O-Haze dataset.Qualitatively,the proposed method demonstrates its effectiveness in handling a diverse range of haze types,delivering visually pleasing results and robust performance,while also generalising well across different scenarios.With only 0.385 million parameters(more than 100 times smaller than comparable dehazing methods),WLD-Net processes 1024×1024 images in just 0.045 s,highlighting its applicability across various real-world scenarios.The code is available at https://github.com/AliMurtaza29/WLD-Net. 展开更多

In the acoustic detection process of buried non-metallic pipelines,the echo signal is often interfered by a large amount of noise,which makes it extremely difficult to effectively extract useful signals.An denoising algorithm based on empirical mode decomposition(EMD)and wavelet thresholding was proposed.This method fully considered the nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics of the echo signal,making the denoising effect more significant.Its feasibility and effectiveness were verified through numerical simulation.When the input SNR(SNRin)is between-10 dB and 10 dB,the output SNR(SNRout)of the combined denoising algorithm increases by 12.0%-34.1%compared to the wavelet thresholding method and by 19.60%-56.8%compared to the EMD denoising method.Additionally,the RMSE of the combined denoising algorithm decreases by 18.1%-48.0%compared to the wavelet thresholding method and by 22.1%-48.8%compared to the EMD denoising method.These results indicated that this joint denoising algorithm could not only effectively reduce noise interference,but also significantly improve the positioning accuracy of acoustic detection.The research results could provide technical support for denoising the echo signals of buried non-metallic pipelines,which was conducive to improving the acoustic detection and positioning accuracy of underground non-metallic pipelines. 展开更多

A fast algorithm, which can greatly decrease the processing burden and can be very easy for hardware implementation in real-time, is analyzed. The algorithm will no longer have the processing of decimation and interpolation of usual WT. The formulae of the decomposition and the reconstruction are given. Simulation results of the MEMS (micro-electro mechanical systems) gyroscope drift signal show that the algorithm spends much less processing time to finish the de-noising process than the usual WT. And the de-noising effect is the same. The fast algorithm has been implemented in a TMS320C6713 digital signal processor. The standard variance of the gyroscope static drift signal decreases from 78. 435 5 (°)/h to 36. 763 5 (°)/h. It takes 0. 014 ms to process all input data and can meet the real-time analysis of signal. 展开更多

To reduce the drift error existing in the output signal of fiber optic gyroscopes (FOG), a mathematical model of the FOG output signal is set up; the error characteristics of the FOG output signal are analyzed, and semi-soft threshold filtering is chosen based on the comparison of hard threshold and soft threshold filtering. The semi-soft threshold wavelet package filtering method is applied in the filtering of the FOG output signal. Experiments of the stationary and dynamic FOG output signals filtered with the wavelet package analysis are carried out in a lab environment, respectively. Experiments done with the real-time measured FOG signal show that the method of semi-soft threshold wavelet package filtering reduces the mean square error from 5 (°)/h to 1 (°)/h, so it is effective in eliminating the white noises and the fractal noises existing in the FOG. The novel method proposed here is proved valid in reducing the FOG drift error, satisfying the technical demands of high precision and realtime processing. 展开更多

Recently, we found that side lobes of wavelets have a large impact on the identification of thin sand reservoirs when studying some gas fields in a basin in Northwest China. Reflections from the top of the H Formation, in which there are gas-bearing thin sand bodies, have the main wavelet lobe between two weak peak side lobes. The lower one always mixes with another peak reflected from the top of a thin sand reservoir. That makes it difficult to identify the sand reservoir. In order to solve this, many forward models were set up using typical well logs. 2D synthetic profiles were produced using Ricker wavelets to study the relationships between the effects of wavelet side lobes and thin sand position and frequency and between amplitude and the thin sand body. We developed the following conclusions: First, it is easier to identify thin sands in a shallower position. Second, a good way to tell sand body reflections from side lobes is by comparing profiles with different frequency windows. Third, it is helpful and effective to describe sand extent using amplitude attributes. 展开更多

In order to suppress the speckle appearing in synthesis aperture radar (SAR) images, a novel speckle reduction method based on wavelet domain hidden Markov tree (HMT) was proposed. First, the image was logarithmic transformed to change the statistical property of the speckles. Then an HMT was constructed in the correspondent wavelet domain. Based on this model, the image signal was restored by maximum likelihood estimation and speckle noise was suppressed. Simulating SAR images had shown that the performance of the filter is satisfactory for both speckle smoothing and edges presentation, and for generating visually natural images as well. 展开更多

Based on specific experiment data, the frequency characteristics and spectral energy dis tribution can be obtained. We studied the variation of image entropy before and after wavelet decomposition, the optimal number of wavelet decomposition layers, and the effect of wavelet bases and image frequency components on entropy. Numerous experiments were done on typical images to calculate (using Matlab) the entropy before and after wavelet transform. It was verified that, to obtain minimal entropy, a three-layer decomposition should be adopted rather than higher orders. The result achieved by using biorthogonal wavelet decomposition is better than that of the orthogonal wavelet decomposition. The multiresolution analysis of wavelet analysis can extract the information at different scales so as to provide a powerful tool for information analysis and processing. Based on the analysis of the geometric nature of hydrocarbon anomalies and background, Mallat wavelet and symmetric border treatment are selected and data pre-processing (logarithm-normalization) is established. This approach provide good results in Shandong and Inner Mongolia, China. It is demonstrated that this approach overcome the disadvantage of backgound variation in the window (interference in window), used in moving average, frame filtering and spatial and scaling modeling methods. 展开更多

Piezoelectric sensor array-based spatial filter technology is a new promising method presented in research area of structural health monitoring (SHM) in the recent years. To apply this method to composite structures and give the actual position of damage, this paper proposes a spatial filter-based damage imaging method improved by complex Shannon wavelet transform. The basic principle of spatial filter is analyzed first. Then, this paper proposes a method of using complex Shannon wavelet transform to construct analytic signals of time domain signals of PZT sensors array. The analytic signals are synthesized depending on the principle of the spatial filter to give a damage imaging in the form of angle-time. A method of converting the damage imaging to the form of angle-distance is discussed. Finally, an aircraft composite oil tank is adopted to validate the damage imaging method. The validating results show that this method can recognize angle and distance of damage successfully. 展开更多

This paper analyses the five years’ monitored strains collected from a long-term health monitoring system installed on a bridge with wavelet transform.In the analysis,the monitored strains are pre-processed,features of the monitored data are summarized briefly.The influences of the base functions on the results of wavelet analysis are studied simultaneously.The results show that the db wavelet is a good mother wavelet function in the analysis,and the order N should be larger than 20,but less than 46 in decomposing the monitored strains of the bridge.According to the strain variation features of concrete bridge,the proper decomposition level is 4 in the wavelet multi-resolution analysis.With the present method,the strains caused by random loads and daily sunlight can be accurately extracted from the monitored strains.The decomposed components of the monitored strains show that the amplitudes of the strains caused by random loads,daily sunlight,and annual temperature effect,are about 5 με,25 με,and 50 με respectively.The structural response under random load is smaller than the other parts. 展开更多

In the real world, the inputs of many complicated systems are time-varying functions or processes. In order to predict the outputs of these systems with high speed and accuracy, this paper proposes a time series prediction model based on the wavelet process neural network, and develops the corresponding learning algorithm based on the expansion of the orthogonal basis functions. The effectiveness of the proposed time series prediction model and its learning algorithm is proved by the Macke-Glass time series prediction, and the comparative prediction results indicate that the proposed time series prediction model based on the wavelet process neural network seems to perform well and appears suitable for using as a good tool to predict the highly complex nonlinear time series. 展开更多

Unfortunately, due to the random and capricious nature of this signal, it is hard to realize reliable analysis using traditional signal processing methods such as statistical analysis or spectral analysis, which is done in Fourier domain. Information in different frequency band can be extracted by using wavelet analysis. On the evidence of the composition of the pressure fluctuation signals, energy of low frequency (ELF) is proposed to show the transition of fluidized regimes from bubbling fluidization to turbulent fluidization. Plots are presented to describe the fluidized bed's evolution to help identify the state of different flow regimes and provide a characteristic curve to identify the fluidized status effectively and reliably. 展开更多

The rapid development of data communication in modern era demands secure exchange of information. Steganography is an established method for hiding secret data from an unauthorized access into a cover object in such a way that it is invisible to human eyes. The cover object can be image, text, audio,or video. This paper proposes a secure steganography algorithm that hides a bitstream of the secret text into the least significant bits(LSBs) of the approximation coefficients of the integer wavelet transform(IWT) of grayscale images as well as each component of color images to form stego-images. The embedding and extracting phases of the proposed steganography algorithms are performed using the MATLAB software. Invisibility, payload capacity, and security in terms of peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR) and robustness are the key challenges to steganography. The statistical distortion between the cover images and the stego-images is measured by using the mean square error(MSE) and the PSNR, while the degree of closeness between them is evaluated using the normalized cross correlation(NCC). The experimental results show that, the proposed algorithms can hide the secret text with a large payload capacity with a high level of security and a higher invisibility. Furthermore, the proposed technique is computationally efficient and better results for both PSNR and NCC are achieved compared with the previous algorithms. 展开更多

Vibration signals have the characteristics of multi-source strong shock coupling and strong noise interference owing to the complex structure of reciprocating machinery.Therefore,it is difficult to extract,analyze,and diagnose mechanical fault features.To accurately extract sensitive features from the strong noise interference and unsteady monitoring signals of reciprocating machinery,a study on the time-frequency feature extraction method of multi-source shock signals is conducted.Combining the characteristics of reciprocating mechanical vibration signals,a targeted optimization method considering the variational modal decomposition(VMD)mode number and second penalty factor is proposed,which completed the adaptive decomposition of coupled signals.Aiming at the bilateral asymmetric attenuation characteristics of reciprocating mechanical shock signals,a new bilateral adaptive Laplace wavelet(BALW)is established.A search strategy for wavelet local parameters of multi-shock signals is proposed using the harmony search(HS)method.A multi-source shock simulation signal is established,and actual data on the valve fault are obtained through diesel engine fault experiments.The fault recognition rate of the intake and exhaust valve clearance is above 90%and the extraction accuracy of the shock start position is improved by 10°. 展开更多
