In addition to the field data collected in the Bohai Sea region and used in the previous papers, those obtained in the Huanghai Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea have been employed so that the improved spectra can be verified on a more extensive observational basis. Computed results agree with the observations well. Further comparisons have been made between the proposed spectra and the JONSWAP spectrum. Though the two types of spectrum are close to each other in form, the former shows, as a whole, better agreement with the observation than the latter. By introducing an improved relation between the peak-ness factor and significant wave steepness, the spectrum contains only significant wave height and period as parameters. For spectra given in this form, the computed peak frequencies coincide approximately with observed values and the computed peak magnitudes of spectra agree basically with observations, but, because of the statistic variability inherent in the measurements of significant wave heights and periods, there are certain discrepancies between computed and measured spectrum peak magnitudes.展开更多

The leading empirical orthogonal function EOF mode of wintertime CWF (CWF-EOF1) indicates an identical signal over most northern China, with the characteristic trend of linear decline for the leading principal component (CWF-PC1). After the linear trend is removed, remarkable inter-annual variability is found to be the dominant feature of the CWF-PC1. The regression map for sea level pressure based on CWF-PC1 corresponds to the negative phase of AO. Correlation analysis further proves that CWF-PC1 has a significant negative correlation with AO at the inter-annual time scale. The relationship between AO and global surface air temperature is also investigated in order to understand its association with cold air activity over East Asia, and it is suggested that the anomalies of atmospheric circulation in Siberia may serve as a bridge for interaction between AO and CWF in northern China during wintertime.展开更多

The traditional method uses the surface elevation to calculate the correlation and then estimate the frequency spectrum while the MAL, presented by Yu and l.an (1979), uses the time sequence of zero-crossing points of surface elevation rather than directly the surface elevation to calculate the correlation. 66 sets of wind wave data obtained in laboratory and 420 sets of data observed in the Bohai Sea are adopted for the examination of the method introduced by Yu and Lan. Results show that the MAL can give reliable estimation of wind wave spectra. Correlation and form of spectra estimated by the MAL are similar to those estimated by the traditional method. The peak frequency and the spectral density in peak frequency by the MAL are close to those obtained by the traditional method.展开更多

The conventional method for wave height inversion is based on the ratio of the integration of the second-order spectral continuum to that of the first-order region, where the strong external noise and the incorrect delineation of the first- and second-order Doppler spectral regions due to spectral aliasing are two major sources of errors in the wave height. To account for these factors, two more indices are introduced to the wave height estimation, i.e., the ratio of the maximum power of the second-or- der continuum to that of the Bragg spectral region (RSCB) and the ratio of the power of the second harmonic peak to that of the Bragg peak (RSHB). Both indices also have a strong correlation with the underlying wave height. On the basis of all these indices an empirical model is proposed to estimate the wave height. This method has been used in a three-months long experiment of the ocean state measuring and analyzing ra- dar, type S (OSMAR-S), which is a portable HFSWR with compact cross-loop/monopole receive antennas developed by Wuhan University since 2006. During the experiment in the Taiwan Strait, the significant wave height varied from 0 to 5 m. The significant wave heights estimated by the OSMAR-S correlate well with the data provided by the Oceanweather Inc. for comparison, with a correlation coefficient of 0.74 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.77 m. The proposed method has made an effective improvement to the wave height estimation and thus a further step toward operational use of the OSMAR-S in the wave height extraction.展开更多

It has been found that in the western Pacific subtropical region in the first and second ten days of July,it is the continuous assembly of low frequency geopotential waves (LFGWs) that leads to the abnormality of WPSH. This abnormality emerges with the enhancement of wave assembling and ceases while the wave assembling situation disappears. The structure of the low frequency assembling waves corresponds to the structure of subtropical high in its abnormal period. The effect of the assembling waves on the abnormality of subtropical high can be considered as the accumulation of disturbance energy carried by the low frequency waves from different directions in the western Pacific region.展开更多

The following conclusions are drawn from the analysis: the tidal current pattern in the open sea area to the east of Zhoushan Islands is primarily regular semidiurnal, which is significantly affected by the shallow water constituents. The directions of the major axes of tidal current ellipses of M2 lie approx- imately in the NW-SE direction. With the increasing of distance away from the coast, the directions of the tidal current ellipses gradually shift toward the E-W direction. The tidal currents are mainly reversing cur- rents. The spatial distribution of probable maximum current velocities decreases gradually from northeast to southwest which is basically in accordance with the spatial distribution of measured maximum current velocities. The residual currents near the coast are larger than those far away from the coast. The directions of the residual currents are basically north by east, and the angle to the due north increases gradually with the increasing distance away from the coast. The topography shows a certain impact on the spatial distri- bution of shallow water constituents, the rotation of tidal currents, the probable maximum currents and the residual currents.展开更多

In practice, they are not even aggregates of sinusoidal signals. Therefore, the frequency decomposition for the data requires technique that will account for the time-varying features of the data that will lead to deduction of physical meaning of the observations. The combination of empirical mode decompo- sition (EMD) and Hilbert transform has been used for extracting the various contributing oscillatory modes (EMDs) and the instantaneous frequency determination (Hilbert transform) of every physically meaningful mode called intrinsic mode func- tion (IMF). The resulting instantaneous frequencies are used to determine instantaneous wave vectors. The combination of the instantaneous frequencies and wave vectors is useful in the identification of wave modes based on the characteristics of the waves. The results show that EMD-Hilbert can be more reliable than simple Hilbert transform alone.展开更多

With ...With appropriate geometry configuration, helicopter- borne rotating synthetic aperture radar (ROSAR) can break through the limitations of monostatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) on forward-looking imaging. With this capability, ROSAR has extensive potential applications, such as self-navigation and self-landing. Moreover, it has many advantages if combined with the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology. A novel geometric configuration and an imaging algorithm for helicopter-borne FMCW-ROSAR are proposed. Firstly, by per- forming the equivalent phase center principle, the separated trans- mitting and receiving antenna system is equalized to the case of system configuration with antenna for both transmitting and receiving signals. Based on this, the accurate two-dimensional spectrum is obtained and the Doppler frequency shift effect in- duced by the continuous motion of the platform during the long pulse duration is compensated. Next, the impacts of the velocity approximation error on the imaging algorithm are analyzed in de- tail, and the system parameters selection and resolution analysis are presented. The well-focused SAR image is then obtained by using the improved Omega-K algorithm incorporating the accurate compensation method for the velocity approximation error. FJnally, correctness of the analysis and effectiveness of the proposed al- gorithm are demonstrated through simulation results.展开更多

It is found ...We elaborate a quadratic nonlinear theory of plural interactions of growing space charge wave (SCW) harmonics during the development of the two-stream instability in helical relativistic electron beams. It is found that in helical two-stream electron beams the growth rate of the two-stream instability increases with the beam entrance angle. An SCW with the broad frequency spectrum, in which higher harmonics have higher amplitudes, forms when the frequency of the first SCW harmonic is much less than the critical frequency of the two-stream instability. For helical electron beams the spectrum expands with the increase of the beam entrance angle. Moreover, we obtain that utilizing helical electron beams in multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne free-electron lasers leads to the improvement of their amplification characteristics, the frequency spectrum broadening in multiharmonic signal generation mode, and the reduction of the overall system dimensions.展开更多

It is found that the power of transverse perturbative photon flux (PPF) of an electromagnetic resonance system can be improved significantly by virtue of an astigmatic Caussian beam. Cor- respondingly the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) would also be improved. When the eccentric ratio of waist satisfying w0x : w0y 〉 1, the peak value of signal photon flux could be raised by 2-4 times with typical systematic parameters, while the background photon flux would be depressed. Therefore, the ratio of transverse PPF to background photon flux (i.e., SNR) can be further improved 3-8 times with dimensionless amplitude of relic gravitational wave ht = 10-36.展开更多

The analysis shows that a reasonable signal-to-noise ratio may be achieved for a detecting device with the fixed power of GB (105 W), only when the temperature of the environment is no more than T=I K, and the optimal length of the microwave radiometers is about 0.3 m.展开更多

By rewriting the EMPT as a form of perfect fluid, the dynamical back-reaction of HIFGW on the background spacetime was discussed. The result shows that the energy density of HFGW, which is in the gauge we chose, is positive definite. The HFGW serves as a source for curving the background space-time and affects the dynamical evolution and time evolution of the scale factor of the Robertson-Walker metric.展开更多

The response is evidenced as ultra low frequency electromagnetic wave radiation at frequency of 2-5 kHz and in duration of 3 7s. We hypothesize that this radiation appears due to the following process: the shock wave ionizes the neutral particles in the air and these charged and neutral particles continue their vertical motion, which forms in the trail of the shock wave. Such motion can cause the cyclotron-like radiation measured.展开更多

The effect of the assembling waves on the abnormality of subtropical high can be considered as the accumulation of disturbance energy carried by the low frequency waves from different directions in the western Pacific region.

文摘Based on the quasi-harmonic analysis of 11 d vector ocean currents obtained from two high frequency sur- face wave radars located at Zhujiajian Island and Shengshan Island, the spatial distribution characteristics of surface tidal currents in the open sea area to the east of the Zhoushan Islands of Zhejiang Province, China are studied. The topography shows a certain impact on the spatial distri- bution of shallow water constituents, the rotation of tidal currents, the probable maximum currents and the residual currents.
文摘Observational data such as those obtained from the magnetosheath in the downstream of Earth's bow shock have waveforms that differ from those of sinusoidal signals. The results show that EMD-Hilbert can be more reliable than simple Hilbert transform alone.

文摘With appropriate geometry configuration, helicopter- borne rotating synthetic aperture radar (ROSAR) can break through the limitations of monostatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) on forward-looking imaging. FJnally, correctness of the analysis and effectiveness of the proposed al- gorithm are demonstrated through simulation results.

文摘We elaborate a quadratic nonlinear theory of plural interactions of growing space charge wave (SCW) harmonics during the development of the two-stream instability in helical relativistic electron beams. Moreover, we obtain that utilizing helical electron beams in multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne free-electron lasers leads to the improvement of their amplification characteristics, the frequency spectrum broadening in multiharmonic signal generation mode, and the reduction of the overall system dimensions.
文摘The study of large-scale atmospheric turbulence and transport processes is of vital importance in the general circulation of the atmosphere. The governing equations of the power and cross-spectra for the atmospheric motion and transports in the domain of wave number frequency space have been derived. The contributions of the nonlinear interactions of the atmospheric waves in velocity and temperature fields to the conversion of kinetic and potential energies and to the meridional transports of angular momentum and sensible heat in the atmosphere have been discussed.

文摘The high frequency gravitational waves (around lOS-lO12 Hz) could interact with a specially designed electro- magnetic resonance system. Therefore, the ratio of transverse PPF to background photon flux (i.e., SNR) can be further improved 3-8 times with dimensionless amplitude of relic gravitational wave ht = 10-36.

文摘This paper discusses the basic categories of noise in detecting high frequency gravitational waves in the microwave band (-0.1-10GHz), which contain shot noise from the laser and the thermal radiation photons, thermal noise from statistical fluctuation of the thermal photons and fluctuation of the temperature, radiation press noise on the fractal membrane, the noise caused by the scattering of the Gaussian Beam (GB) in the detecting tube and noise in the microwave radiometers. The analysis shows that a reasonable signal-to-noise ratio may be achieved for a detecting device with the fixed power of GB (105 W), only when the temperature of the environment is no more than T=I K, and the optimal length of the microwave radiometers is about 0.3 m.

文摘To describe properties of the high frequency gravitational wave (HFGW) propagating through the vacuum gravitational field in Robertson-Walker background space-time, we calculated its energy momentum pseudo-tensor (EMPT) in the limit of short wavelengths by taking the Brill-Hartle average on the second order perturbation of the Einstein tensor over several wavelengths. By rewriting the EMPT as a form of perfect fluid, the dynamical back-reaction of HIFGW on the background spacetime was discussed. The result shows that the energy density of HFGW, which is in the gauge we chose, is positive definite. The HFGW serves as a source for curving the background space-time and affects the dynamical evolution and time evolution of the scale factor of the Robertson-Walker metric.
文摘We present preliminary results from the experimental investigation of the response of the atmosphere due to the impact of powerful shock waves. Such motion can cause the cyclotron-like radiation measured.
