In addition we can best express these differences from an affirm ative point of view and a negative point of view. Affirm atively, westernization stem s from Europe, and the core of modernization is the western civilization. It was the occident that completed the modernization process, and the progress of the world modernization is the expansion of the occidental modern civilization. Negatively, modernization is a value free concept, and the westernization or Europeanization is a concept with strong value orientation. Although modernization stems from Europe, the occidental civilization is not created by westerners alone. Instead,it comes from the long developm ent and integration of human civilization. The mode of the occidental modernization is not completed yet and needs more explorations and adjustm ents. It seem s that the modernization process is the global expansion of the occidental modern civilization, but as the scale of modernization grows,it will involve more countries with more different characteristics, and it will become further and further from the westernization or Europeanization.展开更多

Since the late 1980s, rapid socioeconomic development and urbanization have been taking place in rural settings. It is epidemiologically established that cancer scale and profile will transit as economy prospers and urbanization develops. However, there are few published studies reporting what changes are undergoing in cancer pattern in Chinese rural settings. Population-based tumor registration data collected by us in urban Shijiazhuang city (available for 2,374,827 people in 2012) and in rural Shexian County (available for 408,995 people since 2000) were used for urban rural comparison of age standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of westernization-related cancers in 2012, and the trend of biennial ASIR of these cancers for 2000-2015 in Shexian County was examined following a decade of rapid socioeconomic development and urbanization. From 1988-2015, the Gross Domestic Product per Capita (GDP) in rural Shexian County increased from 860 to 3000 US$, and urbanization rate from 22.4% to 54.8%. The biennial ASIRs of lung, colorectal, gallbladder cancer and leukemia in both sexes, and that of breast, ovary, thyroid, and kidney cancer in women increased significantly from 2000 - 2015. The increase from 2000-2001 to 2014-2015 in man and women for lung cancer was from 15.9 to 34.7 per 105 (P = 0.05) and 9.6 to 16.7 (P = 0.00), for colorectal cancer from 6.6 to 15.9 (P = 0.00) and 4.0 to 11.7 (P = 0.00), for gallbladder cancer from 0.1 to 2.4 (P = 0.00) and 0.3 to 2.7 (P = 0.00), for leukemia from 2.8 to 7.7 (P = 0.00) and 2.3 to 6.2 (P = 0.00);and in women for cancer of breast from 2.8 to 17.3 (P = 0.00), kidney from 0.2 to 2.4 (P = 0.00), ovary from 0.2 to 4.3 (P = 0.00), and thyroid from 0.2 to 4.2 (P = 0.00). Notwithstanding these increases, their ASIRs in 2012 in Shexian County were still significantly lower than that in Shijiazhuang city. Westernization-related cancer is increasing rapidly in rural China. Comprehensive measures are needed to strengthen prevention to ensure sustainable development.展开更多

文摘Compared with traditional energy sources, wind power has a lower environmental impact. However, emissions are still generated across the life cycle of wind turbines, from production to recycling. As wind power rapidly develops and deployment increases, these impacts are becoming increasingly evident.A comprehensive understanding of these impacts is crucial for sustainable development.Based on the harmonization of previous detailed life cycle assessment(LCA)studies, this study develops a simplified LCA model that estimates the life cycle environmental impacts of wind turbines based on their nominal power.Using this simplified LCA model,we assess the global warming potential(GWP),acidification potential(AP),and cumulative energy demand(CED)of wind power at the regional scale for 2022 and under three future scenarios(high-power wind turbine promotion, reduced wind curtailment, and a comprehensive development scenario). The results indicate that in 2022,the life cycle GWP,AP,and CED of wind power in western China were 10.76 g CO_(2) eq/kWh,0.177 g SO_(2) eq/kWh,and 17.6 kJ/kWh,respectively.Scenario simulations suggest that reducing wind curtailment is the most effective approach for reducing emissions in Inner Mongolia,Gansu,Qinghai,Ningxia, and Xinjiang, producing average decreases of 8.64%in GWP,8.39%in AP,and 9.26%in CED.In contrast, for Guangxi,Chongqing,Sichuan,Guizhou,Yunnan,Xizang, and Shaanxi, the promotion of high-power wind turbines provides greater environmental benefits than reducing curtailment, producing average decreases of 3.45%,3.09%,and 4.29%in GWP,AP,and CED,respectively. These findings help clarify the environmental impact of wind power across its life cycle at the regional scale and provide theoretical references for the direction of future wind power development and the formulation of related policies.

文摘Understanding spatial patterns of plant species diversity and the factors(e.g.,climate and human)that drive these patterns is essential for biodiversity conservation. We used data from 1700.1-ha forest plots in the Shettihalli tropical forest landscape of the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot,India,to analyse tree community composition and the drivers ofα-diversity(Shannon)andβ-diversity(LCBD).Compositional patterns were visualized using Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling(NMDS),and hybrid feature selection with structural equation modeling(SEM)was employed to evaluate the direct and indirect effects of environmental variables on diversity.NMDS identified four distinct forest types in the Shettihalli landscape:semi-evergreen,dry deciduous, moist deciduous, and plantation forests, each with distinct plant composition.Shannon diversity and ecological uniqueness was significantly higher in semi-evergreen forest than in deciduous forest plots. The SEMs explained about 79%and 39–45%of the variation inα-diversity andβ-diversity.Our analysis indicated that current diversity patterns result from multiple processes, with structure, disturbance, and edaphic parameters exerting the strongest direct and indirect effects onα-diversity.β-diversity,in contrast, was largely influenced by climate, topography, stand structure, and edaphic factors.Overall, our findings indicate that various factors(e.g.,climate,topography,and human disturbance)interact to shape tree diversity patterns in tropical forests. These findings will help develop unique conservation and management strategies for distinct forest types in tropical forest ecosystems.

文摘In this study, based on MERRA-2 reanalysis data and a multi-algorithm integrated atmospheric river(AR)iden-tification method, the authors reveal the cross-seasonal regulation mechanism of El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)on winter-spring AR activities in East Asia. The results show that ENSO asymmetrically modulates AR ac-tivity through teleconnection and hysteresis effects, and has significant enhancement/inhibition effects on ARs in different regions. At the onset of El Niño,enhanced southwesterly flow at the western edge of the western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH)leads to enhanced AR activity in the western Pacific, and anomalous southerly winds in the Indian Ocean promote northward transport of water vapor in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. With a three-month lag,the weakening and eastward retreat of the WPSH weakens the low-latitude AR activity, but persistent southerly winds in the Bay of Bengal maintain the AR activity over Southwest China. The mid-to high-latitude AR response exhibits delayed dynamics, initially dominated by the synergistic effect of the southward deviation of the upper-air rapids and the low-level convergence(double-rapid-flow effect)and later modulated by the Pacific-North American teleconnection(PNA)-triggered East Asian ridge, which enhances the precipitation efficiency through prolonged frontal activity and enhanced cold-warm airmass convergence.Overall,El Niño promotes the development of low-and midlatitude AR activity in East Asia, while La Niña promotes(maritime continental)AR activity in the tropics. This study establishes the“ENSO teleconnection→circulation adjust-ment→East Asian AR response”chain, revealing a cross-seasonal lagged response mechanisms of East Asian AR activity, and provides a theoretical basis for winter and spring climate prediction and extreme precipitation forecasting.
