Patients and methods: Our study population consisted of all volunteer blood donors who had donated during a 2-year period from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020. Samples were taken from patients with no contraindications and serological tests were performed using ELISA tests. HBsAg, HCV-Ac and HIV serology were tested. All samples reactive for HIV, HBV and HCV were retested for confirmation using a second enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. A result was considered positive if both the first and second tests were positive. Results: In two years, the Ouahigouya BSDD recorded 9726 donations, including 7983 new donors and 1743 former donors. The average age of donors was 25.59 years, with a sex ratio of 3.4. The seroprevalence of HBV, HCV and HIV was 7.31%, 3.10% and 2.12% respectively. HBV-HCV co-infection was found in 0.32% of cases, HIV-HBV, HIV-HCV, and HIV-HBV-HCV co-infection were found in 0.25%, 0.09% and 0.04% respectively. Conclusion: The seroprevalence of viral hepatitis B and C remains high among volunteer blood donors in Ouahigouya, although a decline in seroprevalence appears to be on the horizon.展开更多

We conducted a longitudinal study of 4304 sperm donors from the Guangdong Provincial Human Sperm Bank (Guangzhou, China) during 2017–2021. A body composition analyzer was used to measure total and local body fat percentage for each participant. Generalized estimating equations were employed to assess the association between body fat percentage and sperm count, motility, and morphology. We estimated that each 10% increase in total body fat percentage (estimated change [95% confidence interval, 95% CI]) was significantly associated with a 0.18 × 106 (0.09 × 106–0.27 × 106) ml and 12.21 × 106 (4.52 × 106–19.91 × 106) reduction in semen volume and total sperm count, respectively. Categorical analyses and exposure-response curves showed that the association of body fat distribution with semen volume and total sperm count was stronger at higher body fat percentages. In addition, the association still held among normal weight and overweight participants. We observed similar associations for upper limb, trunk, and lower limb body fact distributions. In conclusion, we found that a higher body fat distribution was significantly associated with lower semen quality (especially semen volume) even in men with a normal weight. These findings provide useful clues in exploring body fat as a risk factor for semen quality decline and add to evidence for improving semen quality for those who are expected to conceive.展开更多

文摘Geographical studies of outdoor activities have increased in recent years with the rise in popularity of these activities worldwide, including in Japan.Volunteered geographic information(VGI)is a key tool for organizing outdoor activities as it offers a means to determine the locational information and names of places. To evaluate the quality of VGI,geospatial data generated by land survey agencies and other VGI are often utilized as reference data. However, since these reference data may not be available, other methods are necessary to assure the quality of VGI.In this study,we examined five trust indicators based on the inherent characteristics of VGI through an empirical case study. We used mountain names extracted from OpenStreetMap in Japan as data because there were almost no other VGI in the vicinity. As a result,we isolated three trust indicators, namely versions, users, and tag corrections,to examine the thematic accuracy of VGI because these were the only statistically significant indicators. However,we found that the prediction rate of thematic accuracy was very low.To improve thematic accuracy, this study recommends using the most accurate versions, applying correctly given tags, and considering the motivations and characteristics of the VGI contributors.
文摘Observations of living organisms by citizen scientists that are reported to online portals are a valuable source of information. They are also a special kind of volunteered geographic information(VGI).VGI data have issues of completeness, which arise from biases caused by the opportunistic nature of the data collection process. We examined the completeness of bird species represented in citizen science observation data from eBird and iNaturalist in US National Parks(NPs).We used approaches for completeness estimation which were developed for data from OpenStreetMap,a crowdsourced map of the world.First,we used an extrinsic approach, comparing species lists from citizen science data with National Park Service lists.Second,we examined two intrinsic approaches using total observation numbers in NPs and the development of the number of new species being added to the data-set over time. Results from the extrinsic approach provided appropriate completeness estimations to evaluate the intrinsic approaches. We found that total observation numbers are a good estimator of species completeness of citizen science data from US NPs.There is also a close relationship between species completeness and the ratio of new species added to observation data vs.observation numbers in a given year.

文摘The aim of this study was to assess the seroprevalence of viral hepatitis B and C and co-infection with HIV among volunteer blood donors at the blood sampling and distribution depot (BSDD) in Ouahigouya. Conclusion: The seroprevalence of viral hepatitis B and C remains high among volunteer blood donors in Ouahigouya, although a decline in seroprevalence appears to be on the horizon.

文摘Extensive studies have identified potential adverse effects on semen quality of obesity, based on body mass index, but the association between body fat distribution, a more relevant indicator for obesity, and semen quality remains less clear. These findings provide useful clues in exploring body fat as a risk factor for semen quality decline and add to evidence for improving semen quality for those who are expected to conceive.
文摘Background:Oral health issues persistently affect the overall health and well-being of rural populations.Village health volunteers(VHVs)play a crucial role in advancing oral health literacy in their community. This study aimed to examine the factors related to nutritional literacy for oral health among VHVs.Methods:This was a mixed-methods study employing an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative data were gathered through questionnaires distributed to a cohort of 10,514 VHVs registered in Health Region 1.A stratified random sampling technique was used to ensure adequate representation of various subgroups within the VHV population, considering factors such as age, education level, and geographical distribution across the region. This approach allowed for a more representative sample that accurately reflects the diversity of the VHV population.Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with a purposive sampling of 20 participants based on specific criteria.Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and biserial correlation techniques, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Results:The study found that the sample group possessed a moderate level of knowledge of health literacy principles and nutrition for oral health. However, their self-assessed skills in nutritional literacy for oral health were rated as high.A statistically significant negative correlation was found between knowledge of nutrition for oral health and skills in nutritional literacy for oral health.VHVs equated health literacy with knowledge because their public health training had focused more on imparting knowledge rather than developing skills based on health literacy principles. Conclusion:There is a need to emphasize skill-based health literacy training and to use effective skill development techniques that are tailored to the specific roles and responsibilities of health volunteers. It is also recommended to continuously monitor and evaluate the outcomes of these efforts.
