Hydro-pneumatic near-zero frequency(NZF)vibration isolators have better performance at isolating vibration with low frequencies and heavy loadings when the nonlinear fluidic damping is introduced and the pressurized gas pressure is properly adjusted. The nonlinear characteristics of such devices make their corresponding dynamic research involve chaotic dynamics.Chaos may bring negative influence and disorder to the structure and low-frequency working efficiency of isolators, which makes it necessary to clarify and control the threshold ranges for chaos generation in advance. In this work, the chaotic characteristics for a class of hydro-pneumatic NZF vibration isolators under dry friction, harmonic, and environmental noise excitations are analyzed by the analytical and numerical methods. The parameter ranges for the generation of chaos are obtained by the classical and random Melnikov methods. The chaotic characteristics and thresholds of the parameters in the systems with or without noise excitation are discussed and described. The analytical solutions and the influence of noise and harmonic excitation about chaos are tested and further analyzed through many numerical simulations. The results show that chaos in the system can be induced or inhibited with the adjustment of the magnitudes of harmonic excitation and noise intensity. 展开更多

To ascertain the influence of the boundary friction on mechanical properties of disc-spring vibration isolators a load-displacement hysteresis curve formula of disc-spring vibration isolators is derived on the basis of the energy conservation law as well as considering the effect of the boundary friction. The formula is validated through the finite element analysis and static load tests. On this basis the effect of the boundary friction on the bearing capacity is researched. Then the dynamic performance of disc-spring vibration isolators is studied by dynamic tests. The experimental results indicate that the boundary friction can promise a larger damping with a ratio of 0.23 for disc-spring vibration isolators.Compared with the loading frequency the loading amplitude has a greater impact on the energy consumption dynamic stiffness and damping of vibration isolators. This research can provide valuable information for the design of disc-spring vibration isolators. 展开更多

To improve the low-frequency vibration reduction effect of a steel spring floating slab track(FST),nonlinear quasizero-stiffness(QZS)vibration isolators composed of positive stiffness elements(PSEs)and negative stiffness elements(NSEs)were used to support the FST.First, considering the mechanical characteristics of the nonlinear QZS vibration isolators and the dynamic displacement limit(3 mm)of the FST,the feasible parameter groups were studied with the nonlinear stiffness variation range and bearing capacity as evaluation indices.A vertical vehicle quasi-zero-stiffness floating slab track(QZS-FST)coupled dynamic model was then established. To obtain a reasonable nonlinear stiffness within a few millimeters, the original length of the NSEs must be analyzed first, because it chiefly determines the stiffness nonlinearity level. The compression length of the NSEs at the equilibrium position must be determined to obtain the low stiffness of the floating slab without vehicle load.Meanwhile,to meet the dynamic displacement limit of the FST,the PSE stiffness must be increased to obtain a higher stiffness at the critical dynamic displacement.Various stiffness groups for the PSEs and NSEs can provide the same dynamic bearing capacity and yet have a significantly different vibration reduction effect.Excessive stiffness nonlinearity levels cannot effectively improve the vibration reduction effect at the natural frequency.Furthermore, they also significantly amplify the vibrations above the natural frequency. In this paper, the vertical vibration acceleration level(VAL)of the floating slab and the supporting force of the FST can be decreased by 6.9 dB and 55%,respectively,at the resonance frequency. 展开更多

As powerful torque amplification actuators, control moment gyros (CMGs) are often used in the attitude control of many state-of-the-art high resolution satellites. However, the distur- bance generated by the CMGs can not only reduce the attitude stability of a satellite but also dete- riorate the performance of optic payloads. Currently, CMG vibration isolators are widely used to target this problem. The isolators can affect the singularity of the CMG system as they are placed between the CMGs and the satellite bus and provide additional freedoms to the CMG system due to their flexibility. The formulation of the output torque of a CMG is studied first considering the dynamic imbalance of its spin rotor and then the deformation angle as a result of the isolator's flex- ibility is calculated. With the additional freedoms, the influence of isolator on the singularity problem is studied and a new steering logic to escape from the singular states is proposed. 展开更多

Predicting damage to vibration isolators in a raft experiencing heavy shock loadings from explosions is an important task when designing a raft system. It is also vital to be able to research the vulnerability of heavily shocked floating rafts unreliable, especially when the allowable values The conventional approach to prediction has been or ultimate values of vibration isolators of supposedly uniform standard in a raft actually have differing and uncertain values due to defective workmanship. A new model for predicting damage to vibration isolators in a shocked floating raft system is presented in this paper. It is based on a support vector machine(SVM), which uses Artificial Intelligence to characterize complicated nonlinear mapping between the impacting environment and damage to the vibration isolators. The effectiveness of the new method for predicting damage was illustrated by numerical simulations, and shown to be effective when relevant parameters of the model were chosen reasonably. The effect determining parameters, including kernel function and penalty factors, has on prediction results is also discussed. It can be concluded that the SVM will probably become a valid tool to study damage or vulnerability in a shocked raft system. 展开更多

A viscohyperelastic constitutive model is proposed to describe the mechanical behaviour of vibration isolation rubber under broad-band vibration. This constitutive model comprises two parts: a component with three parameters to characterize the hyperelastic static properties of rubber materials, and the other component incorporating two relaxation time parameters, corresponding to high and low strain rates, respectively, to describe the dynamic response under vibration and impact loadings. Based on this proposed constitutive model, a series of experiments were performed on two types of rubber materials over a wide strain rate range. The results predicted from this model are in good agreement with the experimental data. 展开更多

Strong surface impact will produce strong vibration, which will pose a threat to the safety of nearby buried pipelines and other important lifeline projects.Based on the verified numerical method,a comprehensive numerical parameter analysis is conducted on the key influencing factors of the vibration isolation hole(VIH),which include hole diameter, hole net spacing, hole depth, hole number, hole arrangement, and soil parameters. The results indicate that a smaller ratio of net spacing to hole diameter, the deeper the hole, the multi-row hole, the hole adoption of staggered arrangements, and better site soil conditions can enhance the efficiency of the VIH barrier. The average maximum vibration reduction efficiency within the vibration isolation area can reach 42.2%.The vibration safety of adjacent oil pipelines during a dynamic compaction projection was evaluated according to existing standards, and the measurement of the VIH was recommended to reduce excessive vibration. The single-row vibration isolation scheme and three-row staggered arrangement with the same hole parameters are suggested according to different cases. The research findings can serve as a reference for the vibration safety analysis, assessment, and control of adjacent underground facilities under the influence of strong surface impact loads. 展开更多

Devices on aircraft are subjected to complex environmental excitations that pose risks to their operational safety.Passive vibration isolation techniques are extensively employed due to their advantage of not requiring additional energy sources. This paper introduces a novel metallic vibration isolator based on zigzag structures. The proposed isolator features a compact design and can be manufactured using additive manufacturing techniques, allowing for the integration of structural and functional elements.Firstly, the vibration response of the single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF)system is analyzed. To achieve effective vibration reduction,it is crucial for the isolator's stiffness to be sufficiently low.Secondly,to obtain a structure with high compliance, the traversal algorithm and the finite element method(FEM)are applied. The results confirm that the zigzag structure is a reliable high-compliance configuration.Thirdly, the parametric geometric model of the zigzag structure is developed and its stiffness is calculated.Quasi-static compression experiments validate the accuracy of the calculations. Finally,a specific engineering example is considered, where a zigzag vibration isolator is designed and fabricated.Vibration experiments demonstrate that the zigzag isolator effectively reduces both the stiffness and the fundamental frequency of the vibration system, achieving a vibration isolation efficiency exceeding 60%. 展开更多

This study explores the nonlinear dynamics of a quasi-zero stiffness(QZS)vibration isolator coupled with a piezoelectric energy harvester connected to an RL-resonant circuit. The model of the system is formulated with the Lagrangian mechanics, representing a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear electromechanical system subject to harmonic base excitation under a 1:1 internal resonance condition. The model is normalized, and the conditions dictating monostable and bistable oscillation modes are identified. The bifurcation characteristics of the coupled system are analyzed in both oscillation modes by means of harmonic balance and continuation methods. The vibration isolation performance, with and without the coupled harvester,is evaluated in terms of displacement transmissibility to assess its dual functionalities for vibration isolation and energy harvesting.Analytical results demonstrate that integrating a piezoelectric harvester into a monostable QZS isolator under 1:1 internal resonance does not compromise its vibration isolation capability while enabling efficient energy harvesting at extremely low-frequency base excitation.Furthermore, the system's response under strong base excitation is investigated exclusively for energy harvesting in both monostable and bistable modes, leading to optimal structural parameter design. The conditions for intra-well and inter-well periodic oscillation modes,as well as chaotic responses, are analyzed analytically and validated numerically through stability charts, basins of attraction, bifurcation diagrams, time histories, and Poincarémaps. This work provides a comprehensive understanding of the oscillation dynamics of QZS isolators and offers valuable insights for optimizing their geometric parameters to function as high-performance vibration isolators and/or energy harvesters. 展开更多

Traditional linear vibration isolators struggle to combine high load-bearing capacity with low-frequency vibration isolation, whereas nonlinear metastructure isolators can effectively fulfill both functions. This paper draws inspiration from the Quasi-Zero Stiffness (QZS) characteristics resulting from the buckling deformation of beams, and proposes a gear-based QZS structure by arranging beams in a circular array. We investigated the static mechanical behavior under different structural parameters, loading angles, and gear combinations through experiments and simulations, and demonstrated the mechanical performances could be effectively programmed. Subsequent vibration isolation tests on the double gears prove superior vibration isolation performance at low frequency while maintaining high load-bearing capacities. Additionally, a key contribution of our work is the development of a mathematical model to characterize the buckling behavior of the unit beam within the gear structure, with its accuracy validated through finite element analysis and experimental results. The gear’s modulus, number of teeth, and pressure angle are selected according to standard series, allowing the gear can be seamlessly integrated into existing mechanical systems in critical fields such as aerospace, military, and etc. 展开更多

A small quasi-zero stiffness(QZS)vibration isolator is designed to be mounted on the roof of an agricultural vehicle for the working environment and vibration frequency of the inertial navigation system.By using the principle that the Euler beam has a negative stiffness in the critical state, the dynamic stiffness of the loaded QZS vibration isolator in the balance position tends to be close to zero by connecting a vertical spring in parallel.Firstly, the stiffness of the QZS vibration isolation system at the balance position is analyzed statically, and the material parameters and properties of the Euler beam are determined. Then, the dynamic equations are established, and the harmonic equilibrium method is used to solve the dynamic response under sinusoidal excitation to obtain the force transmissibility of the QZS vibration isolation system, and to make a comparison with that of the linear isolation system. Finally, the modal simulation, harmonic response simulation and random vibration simulation of the QZS vibration isolator are carried out through the finite element analysis, and the results show that the QZS vibration isolator has a lower initial isolation frequency and a larger isolation range, and the peak vibration isolation can reach about 11.58 dB. 展开更多

Bionic X-shaped vibration isolators have been widely employed in aerospace and other industrial fields, but the stiffness properties of classic X-shaped structures limit the vibration isolation ability for low frequencies. An innovative bionic quasi-zero stiffness(QZS)vibration isolator(BQZSVI),which can broaden the QZS range of a classic X-shaped isolator and can bring it closer to the equilibrium position,is proposed. The BQZSVI consists of an X-shaped structure as the bone fabric of lower limbs and a nonlinear magnetic loop device simulating the leg muscle.Based on static calculation, the stiffness characteristic of the structure is confirmed. The governing equations of motion of the BQZSVI structure are established in the framework of the Lagrange equation, and the harmonic balance method(HBM)is adopted to obtain the transmissibility responses. The results show that the BQZSVI can provide a more accessible and broader range of QZS.In the dynamic manifestation, the introduction of the BQZSVI can reduce the amplitude of a classic X-shaped vibration isolator by 65.7%,and bring down the initial vibration isolation frequency from 7.43 Hz to 2.39 Hz.In addition,a BQZSVI prototype is designed and fabricated, and the exactitude of the theoretical analysis method is proven by means of experiments. 展开更多

Periodic isolator is well known for its wave filtering characteristic. While in middle and high frequencies, the internal resonances of the periodic isolator are evident especially when damping is small. This study proposes a novel aperiodic vibration isolation for improving the internal resonances control of the periodic isolator. The mechanism of the internal resonances control by the aperiodic isolator is firstly explained. For comparing the internal resonances suppression effect of the aperiodic isolator with the periodic isolator,a dynamic model combing the rigid machine, the isolator, and the flexible plate is derived through multi subsystem modeling method and transfer matrix method, whose accuracy is verified through the finite element method. The influences of the aperiodicity and damping of the isolator on the vibration isolation performance and internal resonances suppression effect are investigated by numerical analysis. The numerical results demonstrate that vibration attenuation performances of the periodic isolator and aperiodic isolator are greatly over than that of the continuous isolator in middle and high frequencies. The aperiodic isolator opens the stop bandgaps comparing with the periodic isolator where the pass bandgaps are periodically existed. The damping of the isolator has the stop bandgap widening effect on both the periodic isolator and the aperiodic isolator. In addition,a parameter optimization algorithm of the aperiodic isolator is presented for improving the internal resonances control effect. It is shown that the vibration peaks within the target frequency band of the aperiodic isolator are effectively reduced after the optimization. Finally, the experiments of the three different vibration isolation systems are conducted for verifying the analysis work. 展开更多

Among different existing vibration isolation methods, open trenches is a technique that is commonly used for reducing the transfer of ground vibrations.Despite many benefits of such a technique for isolating ground vibrations, its primary disadvantage is its instability and lack of vibration isolation effectiveness apart from the stability of the trenches. To address these concerns,a new technique has been developed by the authors, which includes filling up these trenches with a group of hollow pipes in a specific pattern. This is a novel method for reducing ground vibrations by burying hollow pipes horizontally.Through the use of three-dimensional(3D)finite-element modeling, the effectiveness of such hollow pipes in decreasing ground vibrations generated by harmonic stress excitation on the ground surface was investigated.Compared to open trench and rows of piles, these pipe assemblages have been shown to be very successful in reducing ground vibration transmission while also addressing issues of instability and enhancing vibration isolation efficiency.A 3D dynamic numerical model is constructed in PLAXIS3D,and the findings are validated against earlier publications.Next,a comparison research study is conducted, with its focus between horizontal hollow and vertical pipe piles. Finally,a detailed parametric study is carried out to establish the effect of each of the wave barrier’s architectural, material, and loading elements on its vibration isolation effectiveness.Critical parameters are discovered and tuned to maximize the efficiency of this new technique. 展开更多

Active vibration control is needed for future space telescopes, space laser communication and other precision sensitive payloads which require ultra-quiet environments. A Stewart platform based hybrid isolator with 6 hybrid struts is the effective system for active/passive vibration isolation over 5-250 Hz band. Using an identification transfer matrix of the Stewart platform, the coupling analysis of six channels is provided. A dynamics model is derived, and the rigid mode is removed to keep the signal of pointing control. Multi objective robust H∞ and μ synthesis strategies, based on singular values and structured singular values respectively, are presented, which simultaneously satisfy the low frequency pointing and high frequency disturbance rejection requirements and take account of the model uncertainty, parametric uncertainty and sensor noise. Then, by performing robust stability test, it is shown that the two controllers are robust to the uncertainties, the robust stability margin of H, controller is less than that of μ controller, but the order of μ controller is higher than that of H, controller, so the balanced controller reduction is provided. Additionally, the μ controller is compared with a PI controller. The time domain simulation of the μ controller indicates that the two robust control strategies are effective for keeping the pointing command and isolating the harmonic and stochastic disturbances. 展开更多

This study aimed to investigate the effect of fatigue characteristics on the static and dynamic performance of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators, and to explore the performance changes of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators with different formulations. For this purpose, we used five formulations of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators and set different fatigue test methods to study the static and dynamic performance changes of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators with different formulations by changing the amplitude. The experimental results showed that the addition of Eucommia ulmoides gum had an impact on the performance of the isolator, and the number of fatigue cycles would lead to the hardening of the Eucommia ulmoides gum isolator and changes in its static and dynamic performance. In the range of two million vibrations, the performance change of the isolator was significant in the early stage and then tended to be flat, indicating that the impact of fatigue on the performance of the isolator would not continue to persist. It is worth noting that the study found that the addition of 30% Eucommia ulmoides gum had the least impact on the performance of the isolator under fatigue. Therefore, for long-term use of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators, attention should be paid to their fatigue characteristics to ensure their stability and reliability. Additionally, this study provides a reference for the design and application of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators. In summary, this study provides important reference value for a deeper understanding of the fatigue characteristics of Eucommia ulmoides gum isolators and for ensuring their stable and reliable performance. . 展开更多
