On the basis of simplified and proper model of variable speed variable pitch wind turbines, the effective wind speed is estimated using extended Kaiman filter. Intelligent control schemes proposed in the paper include two loops which operate in synchronism with each other. At below-rated wind speed, the inner loop adopts adaptive fuzzy control based on variable universe for generator torque regulation to realize maximum wind energy capture. At above-rated wind speed, a controller based on least square support vector machine is proposed to adjust pitch angle and keep rated output power. Based on a simulation ...The optimum control strategy and the saving potential of all variable chiller plant under the conditions of changing building cooling load and cooling water supply temperature were investigated. Based on a simulation model of water source chiller plant established in dynamic transient simulation program (TRNSYS),the four-variable quadratic orthogonal regression experiments were carried out by taking cooling load,cooling water supply temperature,cooling water flow rate and chilled water flow rate as variables,and the fitting formulas expressing the relationships between the total energy consumption of chiller plant with the four selected parameters was obtained. With the SAS statistical software and MATHEMATICA mathematical software,the optimal chilled water flow rate and cooling water flow rate which result in the minimum total energy consumption were determined under continuously varying cooling load and cooling water supply temperature. With regard to a chiller plant serving an office building in Shanghai,the total energy consumptions under different control strategies were computed in terms of the forecasting function of cooling load and water source temperature. The results show that applying the optimal control strategy to the chiller plant can bring a saving of 23.27% in power compared with the corresponding conventional variable speed plant,indicating that the optimal control strategy can improve the energy efficiency of chiller plant.展开更多

A validated analytical helicopter model able to predict the main and tail rotor power is utilized. The fixed height GF has substantially small influence on the tail rotor power in hover and low to medium speed forward flight, and can obtain significant power reduction in high speed flight.This ability can be enhanced by decreasing the tail rotor speed. With the deployment of GF, the collective pitch of the tail rotor decreases, and the maximum tail rotor thrust increases. The GF can compensate the reduction of the maximum thrust by the decrease in the tail rotor speed. The GF with a height of 5% of the chord length can almost remedy 50% of the thrust reduction introduced by decreasing 10% of the tail rotor speed. With the increase of GF height, the maximum thrust generated by the tail rotor increases. The GF with larger height can cause the increase in the tail rotor power in hover and low to medium speed flight. The retractable GF can obtain more power savings than the fixed height GF. However, the benefit is substantially small even in high speed flight. Considering the side effects introduced by the active GF, the fixed height GF may be more preferable. The mechanism for the retractable GF to generate more tail rotor thrust is to increase the lift in advancing side due to the higher dynamic pressure.展开更多

A mathematical model is constructed by taking the spacecraft and the gyroscopes together as an integrated system, with the coupling interaction between them considered. To overcome the singular issues of the VSCMGs due to the conventional torque-based method, the first-order derivative of gimbal rates and the second-order derivative of the rotor spinning velocity, instead of the gyroscope torques, are taken as input variables. Moreover, taking external disturbances into account, a feedback control law is designed for the system based on a method of nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). The attitude maneuver can be realized fast and smoothly by using the proposed controller in this paper.展开更多

This isolator utilizes the variation of centrifugal force due to the change of rotor speed to ch...To reduce the pitch link loads of variable speed rotors, variable tuning frequency fluid- lastic isolators are proposed. This isolator utilizes the variation of centrifugal force due to the change of rotor speed to change the tuning port area ratio, which can change the tuning frequency of the isolator. A rotor model including the model of fluidlastic isolator is coupled with a fuselage model to predict the steady responses of the rotor system in forward flight. The aeroelastic analyses indicate that distinct performance improvement in pitch link load control can be achieved by the utilization of variable frequency isolators compared with the constant tuning frequency isolators. The 4/rev (per revolution) pitch link load is observed to be reduced by 87.6% compared with the increase of 56.3% by the constant frequency isolator, when the rotor speed is reduced by 16.7%. The isolation ability at different rotor speeds in different flight states is investigated. To achieve overall load reduction within the whole range of rotor speed, the strategy of the variation of tuning frequency is adjusted. The results indicate that the 4/rev pitch link load within the whole rotor speed range is decreased.展开更多

This paper presents direct torque and flux control(DTFC) of a variable speed pumped storage power plant(VSPSP). By this method both torque and flux have been applied to control the VSPSP. The comparison between VSPSP's control strategies is studied. At the first, a wind turbine with the capacity 2.2 k W and DTFC control strategies simulated then a 250 MW VSPSP is simulated with all of its parts(including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and its control system) by MATLAB software. In all of simulations, both converters including two-level voltage source converter(2LVSC) and three-level voltage source converter(3LVSC) are applied. The results of applying 2LVSC and 3LVSC are the rapid dynamic responses with better efficiency, reducing the total harmonic distortion(THD) and ripple of rotor torque and flux.展开更多

The...This paper presents an electronic VSD (variable speed drive) for three-phase IM (induction motor) using a microcontroller. The VSD is designed for cooling applications where the 1M is coupled to a cooling fan. The drive receives temperature feedback from objects to be cooled and output a corresponding frequency to the IM. A prototype of the VSD is constructed to control a 175 W, four pole, squirrel cage three-phase IM. The heart of the control circuit is a low-cost microchip's PICI6F777 microcontroller which is programmed using C language to generate variable frequency SPWM (sinusoidal pulse width modulation) switching signals. These switching signals are fed to an 1GBT inverter. The VSD constructed can be switched between two modes of speed control" automatic temperature-controlled mode and manual user-controlled mode. Cost savings using the prototype are demonstrated.展开更多
The emergence of building condenser water systems with all-variable speed pumps and tower fans allows for increased efficiency and flexibility of chiller plants in partial load operation but also increases the control...The emergence of building condenser water systems with all-variable speed pumps and tower fans allows for increased efficiency and flexibility of chiller plants in partial load operation but also increases the control complexity of condenser water systems.This study aims to develop an integrated modeling technique for evaluating and optimizing the energy performance of such a condenser water system.The proposed system model is based on the semi-physical semi-empirical chiller,pump,and cooling tower models,with capabilities of fully considering the hydraulic and thermal interactions in the condenser water loop,being solved analytically and much faster than iterative solvers and supporting the explicit optimization of the pump and tower fan frequency.A mathematical approach,based on the system model and constrained optimization technique,is subsequently established to evaluate the energy performance of a typical dual setpoint-based variable speed strategy and find its energy-saving potential and most efficient operation by jointly optimizing pumps and tower fans.An all-variable speed chiller plant from Wuhan,China,is used for a case study to validate the system model’s accuracy and explore its applicability.The results showed that the system model can accurately simulate the condenser water system’s performance under various operating conditions.By optimizing the frequencies of pumps and tower fans,the total system energy consumption can be reduced by 12%–13%compared to the fixed dual setpoint-based strategy with range and approach setpoints of 4℃and 2℃.In contrast,the energy-saving potential of optimizing the cooling tower sequencing is insignificant.A simple joint speed control method for optimizing the pumps and tower fans emerged,i.e.,the optimal pump and fan frequency are linearly correlated(if both are non-extremes)and depend on the chiller part load ratio only,irrespective of the ambient wet-bulb temperature and chilled water supply temperature.It was also found that the oversizing issue has further limited the energy-saving space of the studied system and results in the range and approach setpoints being inaccessible.The study’s findings can serve as references to the operation optimization of all-variable speed condenser water systems in the future.展开更多
Variable speed limits(VSL)stands out as a well-established and effective strategy to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance traffic safety on motorways.It allows variable message signs(VMSs)to dynamically determine ...Variable speed limits(VSL)stands out as a well-established and effective strategy to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance traffic safety on motorways.It allows variable message signs(VMSs)to dynamically determine the speed limits according to real-time traffic states.This paper introduces an innovative online feedback control approach designed to regulate speed limit values on VMSs,addressing multiple bottlenecks while considering their spatiotemporal constraints.Moreover,we offline optimize the gain coefficients of this feedback control approach in the simulation-based optimization(SBO)framework.Specifically,with average and variance of space-mean speeds as bi-objectives,a stochastic SBO model considering uncertain traffic demands and compliance behaviours is established and solved by a bi-objective surrogate-based promising area search(BOSPAS)algorithm.Real-field experiments conducted in Edmonton,Canada,demonstrate the well-performing bi-objectives of the proposed approach,especially in handling uncertain compliance behaviours and traffic demands.Compared with the uncontrolled scenario,the feedback control schemes with the offline optimized gain coefficients improve the average and variance of space-mean speeds by up to 16.2%and 20.8%,respectively.Meanwhile,by the comparison of detailed performances,it is found that the optimized control schemes perform better than the uncontrolled scheme from the overall and local aspects.In conclusion,this study puts forward a general framework that applies an online feedback control approach with gain coefficients optimized offline by an SBO method to deal with real-time decision-making problems under uncertainties.展开更多

With regard to a chiller plant serving an office building in Shanghai,the total energy consumptions under different control strategies were computed in terms of the forecasting function of cooling load and water source temperature. The results show that applying the optimal control strategy to the chiller plant can bring a saving of 23.27% in power compared with the corresponding conventional variable speed plant,indicating that the optimal control strategy can improve the energy efficiency of chiller plant.

文摘Gurney Flaps(GFs) are used for improving the performance of variable speed tail rotors. A validated analytical helicopter model able to predict the main and tail rotor power is utilized. The fixed height GF has substantially small influence on the tail rotor power in hover and low to medium speed forward flight, and can obtain significant power reduction in high speed flight.This ability can be enhanced by decreasing the tail rotor speed. With the deployment of GF, the collective pitch of the tail rotor decreases, and the maximum tail rotor thrust increases. The GF can compensate the reduction of the maximum thrust by the decrease in the tail rotor speed. The GF with a height of 5% of the chord length can almost remedy 50% of the thrust reduction introduced by decreasing 10% of the tail rotor speed. With the increase of GF height, the maximum thrust generated by the tail rotor increases. The GF with larger height can cause the increase in the tail rotor power in hover and low to medium speed flight. The retractable GF can obtain more power savings than the fixed height GF. However, the benefit is substantially small even in high speed flight. Considering the side effects introduced by the active GF, the fixed height GF may be more preferable. The mechanism for the retractable GF to generate more tail rotor thrust is to increase the lift in advancing side due to the higher dynamic pressure.

文摘In this paper, an attitude maneuver control problem is investigated for a rigid spacecraft using an array of two variable speed control moment gyroscopes (VSCMGs) with gimbal axes skewed to each other. A mathematical model is constructed by taking the spacecraft and the gyroscopes together as an integrated system, with the coupling interaction between them considered. To overcome the singular issues of the VSCMGs due to the conventional torque-based method, the first-order derivative of gimbal rates and the second-order derivative of the rotor spinning velocity, instead of the gyroscope torques, are taken as input variables. Moreover, taking external disturbances into account, a feedback control law is designed for the system based on a method of nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). The attitude maneuver can be realized fast and smoothly by using the proposed controller in this paper.

文摘To reduce the pitch link loads of variable speed rotors, variable tuning frequency fluid- lastic isolators are proposed. This isolator utilizes the variation of centrifugal force due to the change of rotor speed to change the tuning port area ratio, which can change the tuning frequency of the isolator. A rotor model including the model of fluidlastic isolator is coupled with a fuselage model to predict the steady responses of the rotor system in forward flight. The aeroelastic analyses indicate that distinct performance improvement in pitch link load control can be achieved by the utilization of variable frequency isolators compared with the constant tuning frequency isolators. The 4/rev (per revolution) pitch link load is observed to be reduced by 87.6% compared with the increase of 56.3% by the constant frequency isolator, when the rotor speed is reduced by 16.7%. The isolation ability at different rotor speeds in different flight states is investigated. To achieve overall load reduction within the whole range of rotor speed, the strategy of the variation of tuning frequency is adjusted. The results indicate that the 4/rev pitch link load within the whole rotor speed range is decreased.

文摘A control strategy of variable speed limits(VSL)was developed to reduce the travel time at freeway recurrent bottleneck areas.The proposed control strategy particularly focused on preventing the capacity drop and increasing the discharge flow.A cell transmission model(CTM)was developed to evaluate the effects of the proposed VSL control strategy on the traffic operations.The results show that the total travel time is reduced by 25.5% and the delay is reduced by 56.1%.The average travel speed is increased by 34.3% and the queue length is reduced by 31.0%.The traffic operation is improved by the proposed VSL control strategy.The way to use the proposed VSL control strategy in different types of freeway bottlenecks was also discussed by considering different traffic flow characteristics.It is concluded that the VSL control strategy is effective for merge bottlenecks but is less effective for diverge bottlenecks.

文摘This paper presents a variable speed control strategy for wind turbines in order to capture maximum wind power.Wind turbines are modeled as a two-mass drive-train system with generator torque control.Based on the obtained wind turbine model,variable speed control schemes are developed.Nonlinear tracking controllers are designed to achieve asymptotic tracking for a prescribed rotor speed reference signal so as to yield maximum wind power capture.Due to the difficulty of torsional angle measurement,an observer-based control scheme that uses only rotor speed information is further developed for global asymptotic output tracking.The effectiveness of the proposed control methods is illustrated by simulation results.
文摘Focused on the non-statlonarity and real-time analysis of signal in flutter test with progression variable speed (FTPVS), a new method of recursive time-frequency analysis is presented. The time-varying system is tracked on-line by building a time-varying parameter model, and then the relevant parameter spectrum can be obtained. The feasibility and advantages of the method are examined by digital simulation. The results of FTPVS at low-speed wind-tunnel promise the engineering application perspective of the method.

文摘Variable speed pumped storage machines are used extensively in wind power plant and pumped storage power plant. This paper presents direct torque and flux control(DTFC) of a variable speed pumped storage power plant(VSPSP). By this method both torque and flux have been applied to control the VSPSP. The comparison between VSPSP's control strategies is studied. At the first, a wind turbine with the capacity 2.2 k W and DTFC control strategies simulated then a 250 MW VSPSP is simulated with all of its parts(including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and its control system) by MATLAB software. In all of simulations, both converters including two-level voltage source converter(2LVSC) and three-level voltage source converter(3LVSC) are applied. The results of applying 2LVSC and 3LVSC are the rapid dynamic responses with better efficiency, reducing the total harmonic distortion(THD) and ripple of rotor torque and flux.

文摘Based on the characteristic of AC-excited variable speed constant frequency(VSCF)wind power generation,the vector control technique was applied in a doubly fed induction generator(DFIG).Maximum wind energy or maximum output power point can be tracked by decoupling control of active power and reactive power.The research result shows that the net power of generation system delivered to grid in maximum wind energy tracking mode is not the most.We presented a novel maximum power point tracking(MPPT)control strategy by analyzing the DFIG mathematic model and power relations which delivered the maximum power to the grid.The maximum power point could be tracked automatically without measuring wind speed in the control strategy and the control was independent of optimal turbine power curve,which had excellent dynamic and static performances and robustness.Simulation and experimental results testify the accuracy and validity of the control strategy.

文摘A new method of switched reluctance wind power generation position sensorless based on DFNN by FEA was proposed, Through current and magnetic linkage to get the angle of SRG rotor position, the nonlinear mapping of cur- rent-magnetic linkage-angle was built, By training these sample data from FEA, the angle of SRG rotor position was replaced by the output of DFNN to achieve SRG position sensorless. Simulation results show that the error between actual rotor position and estimate rotor position is small; SRG can commutate with great accuracy; and the output voltage of SRG wind power system under variable wind speed is essentially constant.

文摘The axial piston pump usually works under variable speed conditions.It is important to evaluate the health status of the axial piston pump under the variable speed condition.Aiming at the characteristic signals obtained under different wear levels of the port plate,a feature signal extraction method under variable speed conditions is proposed.Firstly,the combination of complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise(CEEMDAN)energy spectrum and fast spectral kurtosis principle is used to accurately extract the intrinsic mode function(IMF)component containing the sensitive information of the degraded feature.Then,the aspect ratio analysis method of the angle domain variational mode decomposition(VMD)is used to process the feature index containing the sensitive information of the degraded feature.In order to evaluate the health status of the axial piston pump under variable speed,the vibration reliability analysis method for axial piston pump based on Weibull proportional failure rate model is proposed.The experimental results show that the proposed method can accurately evaluate the health status of the axial piston pump.
文摘This paper presents an electronic VSD (variable speed drive) for three-phase IM (induction motor) using a microcontroller. The VSD is designed for cooling applications where the 1M is coupled to a cooling fan. The drive receives temperature feedback from objects to be cooled and output a corresponding frequency to the IM. A prototype of the VSD is constructed to control a 175 W, four pole, squirrel cage three-phase IM. The heart of the control circuit is a low-cost microchip's PICI6F777 microcontroller which is programmed using C language to generate variable frequency SPWM (sinusoidal pulse width modulation) switching signals. These switching signals are fed to an 1GBT inverter. The VSD constructed can be switched between two modes of speed control" automatic temperature-controlled mode and manual user-controlled mode. Cost savings using the prototype are demonstrated.

文摘The emergence of building condenser water systems with all-variable speed pumps and tower fans allows for increased efficiency and flexibility of chiller plants in partial load operation but also increases the control complexity of condenser water systems.This study aims to develop an integrated modeling technique for evaluating and optimizing the energy performance of such a condenser water system.The proposed system model is based on the semi-physical semi-empirical chiller,pump,and cooling tower models,with capabilities of fully considering the hydraulic and thermal interactions in the condenser water loop,being solved analytically and much faster than iterative solvers and supporting the explicit optimization of the pump and tower fan frequency.A mathematical approach,based on the system model and constrained optimization technique,is subsequently established to evaluate the energy performance of a typical dual setpoint-based variable speed strategy and find its energy-saving potential and most efficient operation by jointly optimizing pumps and tower fans.An all-variable speed chiller plant from Wuhan,China,is used for a case study to validate the system model’s accuracy and explore its applicability.The results showed that the system model can accurately simulate the condenser water system’s performance under various operating conditions.By optimizing the frequencies of pumps and tower fans,the total system energy consumption can be reduced by 12%–13%compared to the fixed dual setpoint-based strategy with range and approach setpoints of 4℃and 2℃.In contrast,the energy-saving potential of optimizing the cooling tower sequencing is insignificant.A simple joint speed control method for optimizing the pumps and tower fans emerged,i.e.,the optimal pump and fan frequency are linearly correlated(if both are non-extremes)and depend on the chiller part load ratio only,irrespective of the ambient wet-bulb temperature and chilled water supply temperature.It was also found that the oversizing issue has further limited the energy-saving space of the studied system and results in the range and approach setpoints being inaccessible.The study’s findings can serve as references to the operation optimization of all-variable speed condenser water systems in the future.

文摘Variable speed limits(VSL)stands out as a well-established and effective strategy to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance traffic safety on motorways.It allows variable message signs(VMSs)to dynamically determine the speed limits according to real-time traffic states.This paper introduces an innovative online feedback control approach designed to regulate speed limit values on VMSs,addressing multiple bottlenecks while considering their spatiotemporal constraints.Moreover,we offline optimize the gain coefficients of this feedback control approach in the simulation-based optimization(SBO)framework.Specifically,with average and variance of space-mean speeds as bi-objectives,a stochastic SBO model considering uncertain traffic demands and compliance behaviours is established and solved by a bi-objective surrogate-based promising area search(BOSPAS)algorithm.Real-field experiments conducted in Edmonton,Canada,demonstrate the well-performing bi-objectives of the proposed approach,especially in handling uncertain compliance behaviours and traffic demands.Compared with the uncontrolled scenario,the feedback control schemes with the offline optimized gain coefficients improve the average and variance of space-mean speeds by up to 16.2%and 20.8%,respectively.Meanwhile,by the comparison of detailed performances,it is found that the optimized control schemes perform better than the uncontrolled scheme from the overall and local aspects.In conclusion,this study puts forward a general framework that applies an online feedback control approach with gain coefficients optimized offline by an SBO method to deal with real-time decision-making problems under uncertainties.
